Most people are unaware of this but dachshunds are the most fearless and aggressive of all the hound breeds. Although they look cute and comical, the nature of this breed is fearless. I have had three and the oldest one was a very predatory dog. She killed chickens, turkeys, lambs, squirrels and birds and tried to go after peacocks. some of our larger animals were able to stand their ground. Regardless of her crazy fearless nature I loved that dog. She lived to be 18 and managed to misbehave almost daily. My kids loved her.. She was the only dog I ever knew to steal a turkey carcass out of the trash and run to her crate with it. RIP Wiener.
No doubt!! My long hair met her fate chasing stray cats at 13yrs old!! Damn hips would drop her from time to time and the last time was chasing them cats back across the street!! That crazy dog will never be forgotten!!
Have a dachshund, can verify. She doesn't seem to know she is small and would absolutely take on a bear if she thought it would threaten "her" (my) kids.
My dachshund killed three wild chickens by herself. It was crazy, I never knew they were such good hunters and knew how to defend themselves. That's why I kept her away from danger or any other wild animals, but seeing this was shocking.
Never had a dog as focused as my Buddy. Perfectly engineered for the job they were designed to do. Watching Bud dig gives you a whole new level of awesome--like an auger! Part tank, part torpedo, part auger.
My dad's friend is a hunter. He told us when asked about badger hunting, as what it was like, and what sort of dogs did he use, he said that it's rather intense most of the time. You know you care a lot about your dog, and when you send one into a tunnel that's inhabited by a vicious badger, you can only hope your dog comes back too. At times, when they'd return with the dead badger in their mouths, he'd have to sew his dogs cheeks together with a Stabler when they were torn open by the badgers.
Hunters in Africa had Dachshunds of all things. I found out why when they showed what Honey Badgers are like. They're even smarter and tougher than badgers. You don't hunt them - you hope they don't hunt you. The Dachshunds being absolutely fearless were the only ones who would take them on.
My dachshund used to do those things, hunt down wildlife. He doesn’t do that anymore, he’s 18 years old and has retired from all that action. I got him for my 9th birthday in 2004 and I was extremely surprised to walk in and see a baby dachshund running around the kitchen. I am 27 years old now and I am so happy and lucky to have my dachshund in my life these past 18 years.
Finally! An owner who has some common sense. That is is exactly what I have been trying to tell people on here. Good to see someone who hunts and competes responsibly with their dogs. :)
Good Girl! My Missy has a high body count of squirrels, rabbits, field mice, rats. She is a Black and Tan, Longhaired mini D. Fast as lightning and mercy less. Such strong instincts to hunt without training. Impressive. R.I.P. Molly the Red D. Sweetest Dog without the instinct. She was a precious gem. My Friend.
CajunKhan There's a hilarious video of a Dachs jumping off a kayak into the ocean to chase a *whale*. No hesitation, whale surfaces, boom in the water!
There is another video where a dachshund sets of chasing a pair of rhinoceros. They are one of the fiercest breeds. Fearless, stubborn and independent. If they were the size of a dobermann (and you can clearly se the relationship) they would be absolutely terrifying animals. (Not sayin' dobermanns aren't) There are several reasons they were bred to be small, one of them is that if a big dog had the temperament of a dachshund, they would be too dangerous to have around people and livestock.
On the grass lands we come upon a pair of Dackelsaurus Rex who have chased a small prey animal to it's lair. It's gone to ground but the Dackelsaurus Rexes are patient. They circle it's hide and then move off a distance. One hunkers down near the hide and waits. The other moves off out of sight. Have they done this before? Minutes pass and the Dackelsaurs wait. They are confident if they wait long enough they can make their prey lose it nerve and make a run for it. The prey sticks it's head out of it hide and carefully observes the Dackelsaurus near it. It's taken in by their short legs. It thinks perhaps they are slow and they are scavengers. It starts to think it can easily outrun them. But will it? More time goes by. Finally the small prey animals can take no more of the waiting and it decides to make it's run. It's off, with a Rex hot on it's trail! The creature heads towards the tall grass, hoping to lose the swiftly trailing Dackelsaurus Rex in it. But little does it know that's where the second Dackelsaurus Rex is hiding, waiting for it to make it's run. They *have* done this before. The Dackelsaurus' head pops up and it's teeth come down, closing around the body of the prey. As the first Dackelsaurus Rex comes running over to the scene of the capture, the second Dackelsaurus gives the captured creature a brutal shake, snapping it's neck and it's all over. The Dackelsaurus Rexes have triumphed once again.
They’re excellent hunters. When one of our mini doxies was just 10 weeks old, she dashed into a firewood stack, killed a mouse, and laid it at my feet...so proud of herself!
I've got two Dachsunds (a long hair and a short hair. Between the two of them they've managed to kill every ground animal on my property in addition to a couple of birds (I have no idea how Ralph, the short haired, managed that). They are fearless to a fault and incredibley faithful. I've watched my boys take off to chase a herd of cows. We owned a few breeds of dogs, while I was growing up and Doxies are still my favorite.
Wow. These dogs are the best breed I have owned as far as loyalty and dedication and determination. Brilliant awesome dogs and If trained properly are fearless little dudes.
We had a dachshund when I was a boy, and she had some incredible hunting instincts. She loved go after burrowing animals whether they be rabbits, mice, prairie dogs, etc...she would dig until she got them! The dogs in this video looked just like her. Thanks for bringing back those memories.
One of my mini Daxies raids rats nests and brings me live babies to look after : / she is very gentle with them. She was raised with my pet rats and loved to play with them. One of my rats and this Dachshund use to play for hours, running around my house, up and down the stairs, both would come running when i would shake the treat tin. Out and about down the fields, she loves nothing better than a good rabbit/deer chase, full on hound yodel and not a hope in hell of catching one, but a good run for all concerned.
I'd trapped a rat in the attic. I was going downstairs to take it outside & release for the Dachshunds to chase but Buddy took a flying leap off the top stair, landed on the trap, knocked it out of my hand & me down the stairs. People, that dog attackted that trap & got the rat out to kill it on the spot.
Love Dachsies, originally bred to hunt badgers, follow them into their burrows and chase them out so they could be dispatched with a sword or spear (pre gun days). A badger will chase a black bear out of its den, so a dachsie was bred to be fearless. The modern ones are smaller but still pretty much fearless. Perfect apartment dogs their bark makes them sound bigger than they are.
My youngest dachshund can cover nearly 100ft across my backyard, before a bird can take flight, and snatch it out of the air. He can also jump nearly 4ft and run about 7ft up trees after squirrels. His first mission in the mornings, go on to the back patio and scan for targets, lock on and take it out.
Rodent killing machines! I can’t believe my dopey little wiener dog has this kind of ruthlessness inside him. I’m impressed by how efficient he was. Just did his job, shook hard to make sure it was dead, and then dropped it. No fussing around or treating it like a game.
This reminds me of my first dog, a dashie, too. She was used to hunt all sorts of strange things too. She even captured a few birds (don’t know how) and one small snake
I just love how those sweet dachshunds have the patience to wait. I used to have a female who looked just like the little girl in that video who hunted the groundhog! She wouldn't come in even if I called her until she got her prey, or she finally got thirsty and hungry enough! I miss my doggie! She was an awesome dog!😢
Beautiful built doxies!! Truly tell they were bred to work! My guys caught a duck and squirrel and almost a rabbit. Ppl need to stop crying and saying poor animal.. its the circle of life and dogs weren't just to be companions. They were bred to put food on our plates and theirs and they love doing it. If it wasn't for dogs we wouldn't me civilized.. Look at dog history it's amazing. Doxies are of of the toughest dogs. Love the herding dogs too. I encourage their natural abilities but in a handled environment and do sports with my doxies, and border collies (:
alright, i'll tell mine. His name was Bolt(as in the movie), 2 years later we went to another city and buyed a female which we named Sky, and when Sky was old enough he, you know, had naughty naughty with her. At first, 6 beautiful dachshund puppies were born, and we kept one, which we later named Canela. A year later, Sky had another pack of 7 equally beautiful puppies. Now here comes the good part, Bolt and Canela are amazing hunters(they're still alive) while Sky isn't, Bolt always caught geckos, big grasshoppers, mice among other things, and Canela once caught 2 pidgeons that had fallen off of their nest. One day, a big, black buzzard fell right into the water tank, and the 3 dogs noticed, my mother told me to wake my dad up and tell him that a buzzard had fallen in our yard, while i was waking my dad, Bolt and Canela were mad af and wanted the thing to come down so they could beat the sheisse out of him. When my dad went out to the yard, he shoot the buzzard with what we call "Hondas"(also known as resorteras or tirachinas) and the big bird fell down. From this point you might already know what happenned next: both Bolt and Canela pursued the buzzard until my dad grabbed a groom and hit the bird so he could fly out pf our yard, while the three were at it, Sky was crying infront of the yard door. Had my father not shooed away the buzzard, probably Bolt and Canela would had killed him.
Nah. I've owned dachshunds all my life and these two are in excellent shape - fit and not an ounce of fat on them. That's how it should be. One of my current pair is all muscle and rarely puts on weight; the other one is squishy like a beanie baby and we constantly have to watch her diet! :)
And only NOW I understand. Never saw a dachshund hunting. But I have a chiweenie. It was easier to train than my cat. But my cat and my dog are sometimes at war. I knew I got a protective dog, but not such a good hunter. So I basically have 2 prey animals 🎉🎉😂😂😂😂 ❤❤❤ I need to change the tactics in our play asap. Thanks for posting
my mother in law's dachsunds killed a litter of kittens that were underneath the guest bedroom on a past visit. We kept hearing the mom cat coming back at night meowing sadly cause she could find her young. Yeah, these pups are bloodthirsty. But, the cuteness makes up for it :)
I've got three of these little sausage shaped creatures. Love them to pieces but they are little killing machines. Usually it's just toys. They shake their new squeaky toys just like that guy in the video. Sweet, funny, loyal, little guys. Very glad they're not like 60lbs.
They are bred to drag badgers out of their holes. Rats are child's play. They are also awesome at tracking wounded deer. Very easy to keep up with in the woods.
I lol'd how this dachshund waited an hour for that thing to come out of it's hole - just goes to show how stubborn and determined they can be! My dachs would hear echidnas out in the garden and he would NOT give up in his fight to defend our property from behind the fence....drove me crazy.
I had two dachshunds, female and male. Both were bloody killers if triggered, while rest of the time they were happy couch dogs. You can't let them loose in a forest, or they may go after game.
My dachshund (a 25 lb. standard short hair) actively hunted squirrels, ducks, skunks, and rottweilers. He HATED rottweilers. Don't know why. For some reason, he barked at them so ferociously, they always left him alone. He killed a raccoon and a skunk (unfortunately). He went after a possum once, but I caught him and wouldn't let him attack it. He was a GREAT dog! Crazy about my daughter, and crazy about me.
The rat would have been safe if that yellow force field hadn't disappeared
Hahaha, this made my day.
That's why I always buy the blue force fields. My dad always tells me that I'm over paying but, at the end of the day you get what you pay for.
I just died laugjing. You're hilarious!!!
Matt Collins. Nearly wet myself laughing. Brilliant 😁😁😁
Outstanding

+morris4069 My wiener would literally chase airplanes 10,000 feet in the air
mine lived for 16 years and were able to stand against rottweilers and made em step back!
The only dog that can brutally murder another animal and look adorable while doing it...
+Matthew Cuellar well, my opinion is the only good rat is a dead rat!
Mine would always eat the head of everything she killed, leave the rest to age for snacks later if you didn't find it!!
usually they kill it and drop it! Mine did!
Mine attacks the mail man and any other person that walks by she's like a miniature blood hound
My bachhound is crazy he likes eiting a fly!!!
😦

I have a long haired weiner named Buddy too!😂 He is a lovable goofball but a hunter when he sees rodents.
When I was a kid my first dog was named buddy
Awesome!

oh damn crusoe
Crusoe is here😀😁🎉

For dogs that bounce around & destroy anything in their way when you rattle a bag filled with treats, yes, they are patient dogs.

I've got a miniature dachsund myself. She's getting to be pretty old, but she can still find and dig up moles like an expert.
Dachs are incredibly aggressive for tiny creatures shaped like they belong on a bun with mustard.

Dachshunds are the most daring dog in the world. They are more better then a Rottweiler. Second comes a Chihuahua.
Awesome video!!! The end though!
Our dachshund dogs do the same here in Texas. They hunt tarantula spiders, and snakes, and mice. They are very good keeping their back yard clear.

True, it is sad for the little rat thing, but it makes me very proud of them because I know that they are protecting their master.
LMFAO At the end. Dat Shake Doe! hahaha
the ending he looks at you like "you're next."
little dogs but no messing with them. They look like those dogs in the "hunters in the snow" painting by Breughel
An hour shivering in the rain. Savage.
You have very beautiful dachshunds. 😍They aren't over weight and unhealthy. 🙂
