- What are the best shoes for riding BMX? That answer is fairly subjective, but it's hard to argue against Etnies and their Michelin collection of MTB/BMX shoes. Each model is not only designed to handle the extra abuse, but the Michelin soles offer maximum pedal grip.
After years of riding and testing various Etnies Michelin shoes, Mike shares his experiences with the Marana (skate), Camber Crank, Culvert and even the standard Jameson Vulcs in this review.

I’ve been wearing etnies since 1998, every vans shoes I’ve worn has bruised my feet and the sole has lasted about two months. My last pair of etnies Marana Michelin I had lasted me 9 months then the heel went through I don’t use my foot to brake on my tyre I use the floor to slow down and slide my feet along to stop 👍🚲💨

Yo I love you guys!!! Omfg I just texted my girl saying I need the dremel to try and deepen the holes in my vans and other shoes because they’re legit flattened. I’ve had my eyes on etnies specifically the Michelin rubber ones. You guys rock.
Globe makes some heavy duty models that are great and last twice as long. DVS also made a mountain bike specific shoe but they stopped advertising the model as MTB and they now kind of look like hiking boot-type shoes. I prefer the globes because that model is actually a slip on and they fit really well, they don’t come off- but they do have laces and don’t look like slip-ons

Im using culvert and culvert mid. Culvert were my mtb shoes, now "downgraded" to my bmx shoes while mids are for primary enduro riding shoes. I've used vans' and normal etnies shoes for bmx riding but maybe because of the brand I've used to(etnies), I just can't ride without etnies.
It is true that riding brakeless will wear out shoes faster, but oh boy etnies' last still much longer than any of vans'.

I did not like riding the culvert Michelins, they are super grippy, more than I like. Looped out on a manual I my foot did not slip off when I went to drop off and I did the splits. Granted they were brand new but I use plastic pins and pedals and even just spinning I felt like it was hard to reposition my feet after landing and try to set up for the next thing. I ride break less and didn’t notice any trend damage to the shoe, but I also ride low and slow since I have bad knees and ankles and am older. I have only risen them twice and don’t like them as much as my vans high tops with the waffle sole. I can’t feel the pedals as much as I can in my vans.
Etnies needs to make the world's strongest most durable BMX shoes ever made with the strongest Sol ever made in the BMX industry and the shoes need to be designed by BMX riders some of the most technical BMX riders known to man you guys need to get it design by same of the pro BMX riders that ride full-time brakeless and Etnies needs to make the world's strongest BMX shoe ever built and designed in the history of BMX shoes and be the number one BMX shoe company on the planet with some of the biggest names in the BMX industry riding Etnies shoes full-time they need to be the world's strongest built design BMX shoe ever built on the planet and they need to make them all in mid for ankle support come on Etnies let's make this happen please please please please please please....
How is the grip on the Jameson versus the Marana Michelin you rode previously? Are the base Maranas grippier?
Jameson is good for sure, but the Marana Michelin soles are a bit grippier without a doubt. The Culverts are even grippier than that.
Are these not mtb shoes though, suppose they could be used for bmx too
Vans or Etnies. Which one last longer? :)
Hard to say because it completely depends on which model Vans vs Etnies. From my past experience Vans grip well, but I personally don't find them as comfortable to ride in because of the lack of padding. The same can be said for some of the "regular" Etnies shoes, though. The Etnies MTB/BMX line is an entirely different animal. I'll try to get my hands on some of the new Vans BMX specific shoes and see if my experience changes at all. - Mike

I love etnies made BMX shoes. But it's hard to beat five tens stealth rubber. I have five tens, love them. But my first riding shoes were etnies calicuts. I may have to try etnies again now that they have a BMX rubber. Back in the day, pedals ate skate shoes.
