"The missionaries were very irritated by these women" -- I just love the way she says this, it's so heartening and powerful. Anyone fighting for change is bound to ruffle some feathers, and 'irritate' some people, and that's okay.

Patriarchy also gets really irritated when someone wears so called short clothes. For them such clothes are revealing in some way. I don't know how someone's legs can be revealing actually. They are almost the same for every person out there 😂.I think when we wear what we want we are actually breaking the core of patriarchal control. I find these nadar women quite an inspiration . If clothing can be used to resist caste discrimination,it can also be used to fight against patriarchy. Clothes are the breakthrough🔥

This is not the complete history, but one side version only. Why just Nadar women? Why you are not telling the full true history? What about Nair women then? Nair women's where also not allowed to where upper cloths in front of brahmins or nambudiris. What about Ezhava women, pulaya women, SC/ST women all where not allowed to where upper cloths....not just Nadar women...Nadar groups fought against it because they where the strongest to among who had the capability to face brahmin or nambudiris during that time in Travancore or Trivandrum.

Madam, Many caste-groups in Kerala and elsewhere in South India including Tamil Nadu did not wear upper-garments until the 20th century. It was the British governor of Madras presidency in 1865 who passed a legislation to cover the breasts of all the women irrespective of their caste or religion. The women of the caste-group 'Pandi Ezhava (Shanar aka Nadar)' rebelled to wear upper-clothing like that of the women of the caste-group 'Pandi Pattar (Tamilan Brahmins)' and 'Pandi Vellala Shudras' in Travancore as many 'Low-Caste Tamilans' as well as 'Upper-Caste Tamilans' including 'Tamilan Brahmins' have emigrated to Kerala in history. It is the immigrant people referred to as 'Pandi Vellala Shudras' in Travancore who attacked these 'Pandi Ezhavas' now known as 'Nadars' and it is falsely claimed to be 'Malayali Nairs' in history by dishonest historians.
There are various references to Tamil speaking Vellalas, Maravas etc as attacking the Tamil speaking Shanars aka Nadars since the 18th Century C.E in history and it had nothing to do with any Malayali-castes.
      For example:
William Crooke in his book 'Things Indian' as published in 1906 states that "In North India, the lower-caste women make the Sari serve as upper-clothing but in South India, it has long been the habit among lower-castes to wear nothing above the waist. In the 19th century, a riot occurred in Travancore because the Christian convert women from the lower-caste wanted to wear upper-clothing to raise their social status like those of the higher ranks of Travancore (Kerala) such as the Nair women, who are some of the most beautiful in India and dresses in the cleanest of clothes."

Today Tamil Nadu is doing so well because of Nadars. Chelliah Nadar the richest man in the Madras Presidency which comprised of TN, Andra, Karnataka and Kerala. He opened the first School in 1820 AD in Tanjore. He built a palace for the British Royal in Tanjore. He owned 7000 acres of land in the Delta region of Tanjore. He and his son focused on Education for the Tamils first. With the help of British he built the first railway in Tanjore. Later on his son started the Nadar Mercandile Bank which helped to open thousands of Schools in Tamil Nadu, which made the Vanniars and Paraiars and Thevars and Gounders and Konars and Mudaliars were able to take their kids to School. Then came the King Maker Kamaraj. Rajaji the so called Brahmin Chief Minister closed all the 2000 Schools in TN as no money to support and send the kids to do labour work. The Tamil Chola Kingdom descendant and the King Maker came and open 22,000 Schools. Kamaraj said my kids from Chennai to Kanyakumari will go to School and Study and diecided to open a School every 3 kilometres so kids don't have to struggle. Again the King made mid day meal for all his children. When the King Maker took power TN literacy was 7% inspite of that he made literacy to 37%. He opened so many Dam just like his grandfather Raja Raja Cholan and Rajendra Cholan. He was the All India Congress Leader advising Nehru in many instances which brought unity in India. Kamaraj brought I I T into Chennai, Neyveli Spike, ICF Coach and many many Companies into Tamil Nadu. Then came AV Thomas a Nadar from Kanykumari District who owned 2000 acres of Coffee and Tea and rubber plantation in Kerala and Western Ghats. He opened Schools and Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Then came Dr Dhinakaran and his son Paul Dhinakaran who opened one of the best University in Coimbatore Karunia University in 750 acres of land. Then came Shiv Nadar another descendant of the Chola Kingdom., So far has given 1.5 billion dollars as Charity to the poor people of Tamil Nadu and India. Shiv Nadar has 2 Universities in Chennai and one in Uttar Pradesh. Now opening 250 Schools in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The Nadar Community in Tamil Nadu has created 55 lakhs of Jobs to the Tamils. So poverty is almost wiped out of Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari District has no beggars, no poor people, no huts or mud houses. People in rural Kanyakumari district live in massive 4 or 5 bedroom houses with 3 toilets and 2 bathrooms. The land in Kanyakumari district is a GOLD MINE and many part of Nagercoil and other places the land is richer than Mumbai. The Nadars have more gold than any other caste or community in TN. The per Capital income highest in TN. Literacy rate for 96.9% for women and 95.4% for men. Most of the Phd's and Doctorate are Tamil Women who make 69% in Tamil Nadu. The Nadars are a role model for the Tamils. Now the youngsters are all over the World as Doctors, Software Engineers, health workers, Teachers and Professors. Atleast one in each house in Kanyakumari District works abroad in the Middle East or Singapore or Canada or USA or UK or Australia. Probably in 10 to 15 years the Nadar community will become a very small minority in Tamil Nadu and Kerala as most of them leaving oversease and building businesses. When TN was going to a tough time during Covid 19 and Delta virus the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu asked Shiv Nadar money to buy drugs to save the lives of the Tamils and others in TN. Shiv Nadar gave 39 Crores as a pocket money to buy drugs to save the Tamil people. What happened to the other Billionaires. Every Nadar gives 10% as Charity to the poor. You can be a Thevar or Vanniar or Paraiar or Gounder doesnt matter who you are the Nadars will give to take you out of poverty, will send you kids to Schools paying tuition fee. That is why I am very proud of this amazing Community.

Dear Rangaraj you have done a good research however I need to give you some information of the Nadar community. I have done research for 5 years and I am doing a video soon plus a website is coming as well which will give you the right information. Most of the information including the Wikipidea is taken from the Information given by the castes and communities which were against the Nadars.
The Nadan or the Nelamaikkarar are the real Nadars. They make 25% of the Nadar population. They are the Chola and Pandyan Kings. The Nelamaikkarar Nadan owned all the land and they build educational centres which were the Temple, a place of worship. they paid all the money for the festivals, the chariots were carried by the Thevars and other castes. The Iyers and Vellalar worked for them and took care of their accounts. The Greek Writer and Historian talks about the Nadan saying the Nadan were ferocious sea farers, fighters, traders, businesmen and educationalist and philanthropist. The Nadan took the Toddy and fruits to Greece, Lebanan and Arabian Countries and converted the Toddy juices to a chemical which was used to preserve the dead bodies called mummies. The Nadan taught the Greek how to bury the dead. The Nadan used the Palymarah leaves to write and teach the Greeks. There is a place in Lebanon called Palymarah. The Nadan were the first from India to take the sea journey through boats and ships. Read Herodotus and you will find out. Nirmala Sitaran spoke about it in 2021 during the Mercadile Bank 100 year anniversary. She said the DNA of the Nadars are very different. The Nadars were the Chola and Pandyan Kings. They were from the same Nadan blood. One ruled in Tanjore and the other in Tiruchendur. The Chettiars had a fight with the Cholas and the Pandyas gave many areas in South Tamil Nadu to settle and do business. In 1025 AD the Cholas lost the power to the Pandyan King and most of them moved to Tiruchendur were the Pandyan dysnasty is based. The Pandyan king also send his daughter to Korea to get married to the prince and later more than 500 Tamils words are used by the Koreans now. The paddy cultivation, the festivals, the old mud houses look exactly the same. The Nelamaikkarar nadan palace, business centres paddy farm, palmarah farms were protected by the Shantoor. All the information are there in Tamil history. The Shantoor all well versed in Kalari fights, Adimurai, Marmakalai, swords fights, stick fights, etc. The Shantoor were later called by a nick name Shanan or Chanar by the Nairs due to hatred and aversion. The Ezhlavas in Kerala were called Shanan. However when the Nadars lost power the Shanttor became Shanan by the Nair and the Kerala government. The Nair always believe the Nadars throw them out of Kanyakumari distrit which is their holy land. But it was not true. The poor Shantoor were employed by the rich Shantoor to work in the palymarah farm. You need strength, courage and boldness to climb a 40 metre tree. A nair and iyer will climb 5 feet and slip 20 feet below out of fear and anxiety. The Shantoor also recruited the palymarah climbers from other Tamil and Kerala caste. The strong and powerful abled men became the climbers and workers of Shantoor who are employed by the Nadan or the Nelamaikkarar. The Nelamaikkar makes 25% of the Nadar Population, the Shantoor makes 35% of the Nadar population and the Palymarah climbers make 40% of the Nadar Population. The DNA of the Nelamaikkarar and the DNA of the Palymarah climbers are very different and not the same. However the DNA of the Palymarah climbers and the DNA of the other Tamil caste are exactly the same. Later on the Nadars took the Climber and the Shantoor under one banner the Nadar Community. Thats show the Royalty of the Nadars, you can see in Britain as well.
Nadars were hated by the Tamil Iyers, Thevars, Nayakkars and other castes in Tamil Nadu and Nairs in Kerala. No other caste went through this kind of persecution, except the Jews. The Jews had the most powerful Kingdom and the great KIngs who ruled were King David, King Solomon and many others. However the Jews lost the land and all the tribes were scattered. The Jews became slaves in Egypt. Same way the Nadar lost all the power when the Nayyakar community came to the South. They got the help of the Thevar and other caste in Tamil Nadu. These Thevar and other caste were called Jamindars and they owned land and they gave tax to the Nadan the ruler of the land. Nadan means ruler of the land. The Nadars were pushed from every direction and many of them went to Sri Lanka however some of them returned home because they were not welcome there. Many Nadars moved to different parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The Nadars who moved to Coimbatore and Tanjore changed there caste name like Moopanars, Chettiars etc. One of the famous and succesful business man in Coimbatore said he changed his case to Chettiars and married a Konar woman to keep his identity private.
The Germans and the French helped the Nadars to come up. Also the Muslim helped the Nadars. The Naickar asked the muslims to drown the Nadar in the sea so that they can be completed annihilated. However many Nadars became muslims in area like Kayalpattinam, Chengotai etc and many are muslims in Sril Lanka doing business.
Ayavali was a religion a beautiful religion started by Muthu Kutty a Nadar. Millions of Nadars and other people joined the religion. They don't use brahmins or other caste, only Nadars to do the rituals. So the Hindus are the enemies of Nadars. The British never supported the Nadars because they felt the information they got from Nairs, Thevars and Naickers are evil and atrocies. So the British hated them and wrote against them. However the Germans and the French loved the Nadars. They saw the intelligence and physical strength and business savy. One of the riots in Sivakasi 1450 Nadars fought with 5000 Thevars and other Tamil caste. They used the Royal blood what I called bravery and intelligence and defeated them. However the Tamil government sent 2 Nadars to be hanged, the french missionaries fought and gave freedom to the Nadars. So the Travancore Government in Kerala and the Madras Government against Nadars and all the caste in Kerala and Tamil Nadu against Nadars. Inspite of that the DNA showed the Nadars are the Kings and rulers of this mighty nation, Tamil Nadu. LIke the Phoenix they came out of the ashes, very similar to the Jews. Now they own most of the Schools, Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Medical Colleges, Medical Institutions, Business centres, Churches, Temples, Mosques. They are a blessed Community.
You can live next door to a Nadan and they will ever bother you. They will help you to study and even support if you are poor. An amazing community. Now the richest woman in India is Roshinin Nadar, the third richest man is Shiv Nadar. Now Nadars own Shipping Companiies, Printing, Media, New paper, Grocery almost 60 to 70%, motels, hotels, restaurants, Coffee and Tea plantation, Rubber and Spices, I T and all internet sector nationally and globally.
Nadars are the first to open an Englsh Medium School. Nadars have 3 Univrsities, two in Tamil Nadu and one in Uttar Pradesh. The Standard of Nadars are very high. The Nadar community respects the women so much and that is one of the reason they always shine and grow.

    • @Nithin90
      @Nithin90 2 года назад +3

Sir, Many caste-groups in Kerala and elsewhere in South India including Tamil Nadu did not wear upper-garments until the 20th century. It is the immigrant people referred to as 'Pandi Vellala Shudras' in Travancore who attacked these 'Pandi Ezhavas' now known as 'Nadars' and it is falsely claimed to be 'Malayali Nairs' in history by dishonest historians
There are various references to Tamil speaking Vellalas, Maravas etc as attacking the Tamil speaking Shanars aka Nadars since the 18th Century C.E in history and it had nothing to do with any Malayali-castes.
      For example:
William Crooke in his work 'Things Indian' as published in 1906 states that "In North India, the lower-caste women make the Sari serve as upper-clothing but in South India, it has long been the habit among lower-castes to wear nothing above the waist.
      :
The stories of some backward-caste and scheduled-caste that their ancestors had to cut off their head and breast to protest against the head tax and breast tax in the 19th century is not attested by any historical records as Swami Vivekananda himself has said that "In malabar (Kerala) the women lead in everything. Exceptional cleanliness is apparent everywhere and there is the greatest impetus to learning" (source - The complete works of Vivekananda vol.7)
      :
The occupational taxes referred to as 'Thalakaram or Thalavila' (head tax) and 'Mulakaram or Mulavila' (breast tax) and 'Enikaram or Enivila' (ladder tax) etc since the 9th Century C.E in the historical accounts of Kerala were the names of the taxes as pertaining to the male and female labourers for the ladders and rope-belts they used to climb the coconut palms in Kerala hence such similar taxes were also imposed on the non-native labourers who used to migrate between Tamil Nadu and Kerala with the seasonal flow of sap from palmyra trees such as the caste-group 'Pandi Ezhava (Shanar aka Nadar)' in History as well.

Sir, the Kings of Travancore (Thiruvankodu) like all the Royal Families and Nobles of Kerala (Malabar) followed the Matrilineal Succession in History. The character 'Anantha Padmanabhan' who disguises himself as a 'Channan' in the novel 'Marthanda Varma' is not associated with the Tamil speaking immigrant Patrilineal-Castes of Tamil Nadu once referred to as Pandi Ezhava (Shanar aka Nadar) in Kerala (Malabar) History.
Duarte Barbosa (1480-1521) - “In this land of Malabar (Kerala) from cumbla (kasaragod district) to cape comorin (kanyakumari district), all men use one tongue only which they call Maliama” (i.e Malayalam)
The term 'Channan' in the inscriptions and literary works of Kerala (Malabar) since the 9th Century C.E to 20th Century C.E as denoting the 'Malayali Ezhavas' had nothing to do with the Tamil speaking caste-group referred to as 'Cantar' (shanar) in Sri Lanka or as 'Sandran' (shanar) in Tamil Nadu who have changed their caste name to 'Nadar' in the early 20th Century and it is these Tamil-speaking immigrant Nadar (Pandi Ezhava aka Shanar) majority as situated in Travancore from Neyyattinkara to Kanyakumari in Kerala (Malabar) history who campaigned for its inclusion in the Tamil-speaking Madras State (Tamil Nadu) instead of the Malayalam-speaking Kerala state.
The caste-group of Kerala (Malabar) referred to as 'Bhatta (Bhattathiri), Vellala, Kammala (Vishwakarma), Ezhava, Paraya, Pulaya, Kurava etc' in the inscriptions and literary works of Kerala (Malabar) since the 9th Century C.E to 20th Century C.E had nothing to do with the Tamil speaking immigrants of Kerala (Malabar) referred to as 'Pandi Pattar (Iyer), Pandi Vellala, Pandi Kammala (Vishwakarma), Pandi Ezhava (Nadar), Pandi Paraya, Pandi Pulaya, Pandi Kurava etc' in Kerala (Malabar) history.
For Example: "Pulaya is a caste of Malabar region (Kerala) as well as Madurai and Coimbatore region (Tamil Nadu)" - Census of India 1901
