I hiked from Stevens to Snoqualmie last summer and did a few side trails. One up past Jade Lake to Dip Top Pass. So beautiful. Insane you dropped down Lynch Glacier, mad respect!
I really enjoy your videos! I used to climb a lot in the Cascades in the 70's through the 90's. You were wondering the names of the peak next to Dip top. It is Lynch Peak, the lake is Pea Soup Lake (it has shrunk considerably since the 70's), the glacier is the Lynch Glacier. All were on maps of the day and in Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide Volume 1. I have autographed copies of all 3 volumes! Happy climbing, you're doing great stuff!
turn4don, Yep, I forgot the name although I climbed it from the S Face(lake side) a couple of years ago. I am very glad to hear from you. I have been climbing for a while and have the original 3 volume set too. The problem is Beckey mentions Pea Soup Lake, but I don't think any of the hundred lakes that have come out of the melt after the topos were created have been named. If you find a reference that would be awesome. I would love to learn. I found a bunch of lakes that are trying to escape the ice age south of Glacier Peak. It seems that there are so many error on the topo maps. For instance Chimney Rock is mis-marked and there has been no correction. The N summit is at least 70 feet lower and so many other map errors. From my understanding errors are picked up at the next survey. But this I only know from word of mouth. I wish someone would fix the errors and name some lakes. Do you go by Don? Randy :)
Don it is. Turn4Don is a nickname from motorcycle flat track racing. I raced as a teenager and was a spectator and fan later. Kind of a strange combo with climbing! I am also a jazz/rock drummer, you can watch a video of me playing a few years ago on my you tube site if interested. I had a series of small strokes 2 years ago which set me back a bit but I am still playing and very well, fortunately! There are a lot of map errors, as you know there are an awful lot of features in the Cascades to keep track of, a seemingly impossible task. I don't know if Fred Beckey is still on the state board of geographic names, you could write Fred if you have any questions and if you can get his address. Are you on facebook? You can find me at (big surprise!) turnfourdon sjoboen.
Eric, I am using the simple RUclips editor. I don't think there is a big interest in climbing videos outside of the climbing community. It is interesting to see so many RUclips videos these days for common mountains. I don't think we will see anything from Sinister(besides yours) for a long time.
There's four basic ways to get there. Up and over Daniel. Around from Mount Hinman. Heading south from Jade lake, or coming up the valley after leaving the Old Crest trail to the east side of the lake. I done all four. There's no direct trail to the lake. Each time I've gone there, I've not seen another person.
Thanks for commenting Ryan. Those crevasse were not too bad, I thought the pattern was interesting. They did appear, jut popped up as I traveled the glacier, yet I didn't have to jump over. I was able to skirt them. Randy :)
Nice! I'm glad I discovered your channel last night. I enjoyed binge watching your videos - been missing the mountains. I've been to a lot of these places, but not at the peaks! Made me pumped to get back out there this summer, and maybe climb someday. Thanks for sharing your trips!
By just doing it as a kid, picking it up as a 11 year old Boy Scout. I have done a bunch of Alpine climbs, then I did only Rock Climbing but back to Alpine/rock/snow/ice... I like it the best. Rock skills in wilderness areas is the best, in my opinion.
Just a wonderful video TR, Randy, nice job! Your narration will be a valuable asset to those who choose to follow your footsteps one day. The absence of vegetation of course indicate relatively recent glacier recession. Treeline at that latitude normally would be somewhere near the summit, not so low on those classic U shaped glacial valleys. Thanks for bothering to produce these valuable videos.
Nice video Randy. It looks like the Lynch Glacier was pretty broken up; did you feel safe soloing it? I hope to get up to Dip Top Pass for some photography next season. Was your video taken with the RX100? Really enjoyed this one. Thanks. Mike
Michael. Yes, I did feel safe on the Lynch glacier. I have been on glaciers so much I tend to feel at home even with the unseen bridges and crevasses here and there. Yes, I used my rx100! What a nice compact! I love it. There was one area that was steep enough that paid attention to not slip( no axe, just poles). It all worked out reasonably. Mike, I am very excited to publish the Dip Top climb! I took video as I traversed the two summits. That video will be out once I get some time. I have been on Dip Top several times and just love that area. The scramble is nice, the views exceptional...all grins. Randy
I can’t believe how blue those lakes are. Wow and wow.
Me too. The colors of glacial lake can vary much. Sometimes they are more green, other times more blue.

The glacier travel was fairly typical for me. I have been in and out of the area by many routes. How did you like your tip between the passes?

Best video on Daniel. Wish you were still making these!
Thanks Ecthelion. I am still making videos, just behind in getting them published. Randy :)
Great to hear! Have you climbed Hinman also?
3 times
What amazing views!! Also, your editing is getting very polished. I don't know wether you're a better climber or film maker.

Great video! You are in a great shape! The lake is on the map it has a tasty name Pea Soup Lake) I wonder if there is an easier trail to it?

View from the top looks amazing. Walking right next to those crevasses would freak me out!

If you need advise, just let me know. Stay safe. Randy :)
Randy T would love to talk more!
Just leave your email and I will get back. Delete personal email later. Randy :)
so epic. how did you land mountaineering and navigation skills? I really want to get into this
