I keep telling people this, you can stop the usage of your core if you press the same button you did to active it, don't risk getting that 1 kill with the last bit of your ion, instead, save 20,30 or even 30% of your core, apart from that really enjoy your extra content
Wait a minute does this actually work? Can u stop ions laser core and save parts of it for later or something? I'll try this and let yall know. Hopefully lol
When I started playing Titanfall 2 again. I was garbage. This video has made me a master at using ion. I wish I could send you my clips. But this video was all I needed to see to master ion. Thank you.
Excited to see you doing these titanfall videos, dude. This game needs all the support it can get launching next to Battlefield and CoD. It's damn good.
I do mainly use my shoulder laser as a main damage source like you said so I use entangled energy to keep up my uses for it. I only use primary fire to get the energy back and use the secondary fire for pilots and stuff that get too close. Grand cannon was what I used for awhile but I found that entangled just helps you do way more dps for longer periods of time. Hope this helps anyone else that is having a tough time trying to decide a loadout.
TV, love your videos. A common sense style approach is what got me to subscribe to your channel. I love fps games and have played Destiny for a while now, but unfortunately it became a grind. Titanfall 2 is so refreshing and reminded me why i love fps games. Keep up the videos.
Just picked up Titanfall 2, Ion looks like a Titan I want to main. I couldn't quite use Scorch well and I don't want to be just another slob using Tone. Thank you for the guide.
Great video. I just started playing after Christmas, and Ion was the Titan I started with. At first, I thought it was kind a weak, the cannon just didn't do enough damage for me. After watching you video, I am now getting more Titan kills and my Ion is lasting longer. Now I just have to get better at sniping pilots with the laser. Thanks!
This is a great guide for Ion. I really wanted to learn how to play Ion more effectively as I felt like Ion is underused compared to the other Titans (like Tone and Ronin), and this guide really taught me how to play him better. My first time playing Ion, I just only used the Alt-fire and had Refractor Lens, but I quickly realized how terrible of a strategy that was as I couldn't use any of my abilities because of that. Now, I use Entangled Energy, and learned to use my energy more effectively. Now my only problem is fighting Northstars (due to the insane damage and long range they fight at) and Legion (Who's damage output exceeds Ion's, and even with Vortex Shield, their shield can block most of my damage). However, I'm practicing strategy's on how to deal with both, and I've improved considerably after watching this video. Thanks True Vanguard.
thanks for the guide TV!!! been wanting to use the Ion titan, but couldnt get a grasp of it till this vid, been wrecking with it now. more titanfall 2 vids!!!! See you out there.
Great vid TV! I was playing destiny and this guy in team chat was listening to your rebalance vid, i found it awesome cause I was doing the same thing.
I change my primary titan every new generation. I just hit gen 3 so now it's Ion's turn, so thanks for this tutorial. Legion and Tone were so easy, but Ion has shown to be pretty difficult to use.
TrueVanguard, what you said about running away from Legions and the vortex shield not being very good confuse me - whenever I see a Legion, I walk out in the open, and sometimes straight at it - they love to shoot at your shield, and with vortex amplifier you can shred them, and any of their allies nearby with their own bullets. Legions literally can't do anything against a good Ion - powershot can be absorbed, all of their bullets can be absorbed, and if you aim your vortex at the right shoulder or feet, gunshield is useless. Vortex shield is good, especially if you almost tap it - don't hold it down. You can catch lots of things - Archer rockets, tone rockets, all types of titan weapons, (Other than Ion) grenades, Reaper bullets, cluster missile, Other than that this video is pretty spot on. I find it interesting that you use grand laser, as I don't find my core to be especially useful, I opt for the vortex amplifier because I mitigate so much damage with it, and I think it shows how flexable Ion really is.
One thing you didn't mention when talking about the splitter rifle is how it changes when you ads. When firing without aiming it shoots a single projectile and doesn't drain you energy at all! When you ads, it fires 3 projectiles in a tight lateral cone, covering a wider area and doing three times the damage if you land all three. This does drain your energy. I find that using the un-aimed version of the rifle is better at engaging titans at long range with the energy restore kit (I can't remember the name), and then using my high energy reserve to power the vortex shield to block all incoming damage. I use the ads version of the splitter rifle to fight pilots at closer range due to its wide aoe; I find it much easier to hit than a close range precision laser.
If you can land consistent crits with the splitter rifle the entangled energy perk can be really awesome, you can't go wrong with faster recharge of the energy.
The only thing I gotta disagree with is not bothering with the vortex shield on other ions. If you can really cleanly catch a laser shot or two, they've wasted a lot more energy than you did popping that shield for a second or two and you still get to return some laser shots or splitter rifle rounds. A lot of Ions open with that quick laser cannon shot, and I find I can pretty often block it if I just really quickly pop the vortex shield as soon as they turn to look at me, then still return with 2 shots of my own.
personally I enjoy the zero point trip wire. this allows me to shoot my shoulder laser twice back to back. Especially if I get a flank on the titan. I trip wire them, shot them in the back with the regular fire mode and as soon as they turn around I hit them with two shots into the crit with the laser and then dip. I believe it allows for more DPS
I did that throughout the beta and I've realized that it's not how you want to play Ion. Yes, the damage is very solid, but if you want to play that way, Legion has you beat in every possible way. When used correctly, combining all her abilities together at the optimal times, not much can defeat her. I was playing this game just an hour ago against this camping Legion who set up in the back of the map and tried to pick off anyone trying to make an approach down his very long lines of sight, but I completely humiliated him with Ion by ducking in and out of cover, taking pot shots with my laser, and then closing in for the kill once I realized he was the last titan on their team and it didn't matter how much damage I took, so I ran straight at him from halfway across the map and executed him. That was how much health I had to spare, AGAINST A LEGION. Keep in mind that I'm not saying the splitter rifle is BAD, simply that it's not optimal for Ion to use it AS HER PRIMARY. Use it against anyone who gets too close for comfort, like a Ronin, and anyone can see its strengths, but the low ammo and lower than average damage output and potential just aren't enough to make it viable as her main weapon, and the developers knew this when they designed her. Why else would they even include the laser shot if they wanted you to just main the splitter rife? It kills pilots and damages titans easily enough so you don't actually cripple Ion if you take away her laser shot, but if the laser shot wasn't necessary, why would they include it? It's because the splitter rifle just isn't enough on its own to make Ion special, without the rest of her kit, she's just Legion with much less ammo, less health, less damage, a shield that can't be used while firing, an extra dash, a trap no one but the AI falls for, and no spin up time. That's it. I like to think of Ion as a Northstar that fires faster and does slightly less damage per shot, but with a much better core ability, a shield, and a secondary method of damage for anything that gets too close, like a charging Ronin, in the splitter rifle. Don't try to 1v1 people, play smart, utilize cover, take as little damage as possible while taking out chunks of their health with every shot, and then winning because they have nothing else to do. Ion isn't built to fight like other Titans, setting up shields or charging in as fast as possible in a battle of attrition, she's meant to be the harasser that whittles down the enemy without taking any damage, slowly working her way through the entire team and methodically taking them apart one by one, while retaining the ability to escape and survive on her own without any help if things are stacked against her. Also, even if you have the kit that returns energy when you use your primary, the splitter rifle doesn't return any energy when it's split-firing, which is the only way to get any kind of reasonable DPS without Ion's laser shot. It only returns it while single-firing and that does less DPS than an anti titan weapon and uses the ammo you need to fire the split version of the gun.
One thing I must mention; The Splitter rifle does not use any energy when being hip-fired. The Laser Shot also charges; the longer you hold the button, the more damage it does, up to a point.
I know you like Northstar and Ion so far, I think you would really enjoy tone as well. It does so many things well and the core is very versatile and skilled and creative players can do some really cool things with it.
I've just figured out how to use Ion recently. One big tip that I think people should know is to NEVER use the split version of the splitter rifle. You're rapidly draining your energy for a damage boost that really isn't worth it. What you should do is to stay back and spam the regular fire at the Titans, and rely on the laser shot to do most of the damage. If you do this with the perk that converts Crits into energy, you can rapidly chain laser shots by continually refilling your energy bar with Crits from the normal splitter fire. Just don't bother with the split fire, it really isn't that great.
I swear there is nothing more satisfying than forcing a previously full health titan to eject and then sniping them out of the air with your laser shot
Caden Grossman We'll see I use turbo engine so I'd dash away from your laser then when u follow I throw a trap then firewall run at u dash into u and use thermal shield with the increased damage and get a fair amount of damage in or maybe even kill u
Hey TV, I'm a Destiny loving regular guardian, who has been watching you since your how to snipe guide. I have learnt so much over the past year from your videos, and although I am not the best player, I'd like to share my experience and tips for crucible too, so I made this channel, however I was wondering if you had any tips for a brand new channel?? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Hey, TV. I've followed you since your Destiny Sniper School series. Big fan, and, thanks. I'm new to TF2. Any chance you'll make a Pilots vs. Pilots video? I could use your wisdom. Cheers.
I said before that I play Legion, but in last Titan standing I tend to switch off if we already have one or two. I don't like stacking Titans. Legion is a strong dude but his weaknesses are severe and can be pretty easily exploited if there are too many. I usually switch to a mid armor Titan like Ion or Tone.
Nuh-uh, heres what you do, grab the 30% core build on start perk and the splitter rifle crits restore energy perk. Hit their hull with the laser shot once or twice while blasting them in the hull with the scatter rifle to build more energy. Use laser core and trip wire when cornered or when a ronin or something rushes you. Rinse and repeat.
And a fatal mistake I made was splitting the shots out of the slitter rifle, only do that if theres no titans around and you need to kill pilots/infantry.
Do more of this videos TV i have put so many hours into ronin and a detailed breakdown would be awesoeme! Also can you make a network like TrueVanguard network or something so we might have a chance to play with you?
Im a cod fan, played every game since cod4. I played the IW beta and it was complete trash. Titanfall 2 on the other hand is amazing. It's a much better game in pretty much every way, and no overpriced dlc and pay to win supply drops like cod will have.
TMiguelGaming Well consider this, they all ofer very different experience, however titan fall has free dlcs while the other two has a full price seasons pass
TMiguelGaming im not sure that will continue, cause most cod fans also getting tired of their developer never listen to consumer complain, but i love infinite warfare campaign. pvp wise ? its not so much different with BO3, although the sequence movement new system when you got more mobility after u do wall riding and sliding is pretty interesting.
you SHOULD use your vortex shield even if you're going up against another ion. it's not just meant to throw bullets back, you can also use it to not get damaged! other than that and a few other things I disagree with, great vid
man you play completely different from me, I rarely use the laser cannon and if I do I only use it on pilots, I use the ADS 2nd fire on the splitter and vortex to close the gap with Ion
James Cioffi always deny Tone lockons and/or damage with the vortex shield. You can play cat and mouse, just make sure to have preferably a 90 degree wall to dash back behind, not something like the long, curved roads on homestead. What I have found to be quicker, also very high risk, is to march straight through her wall with shield up and finish her with the secondary fire of the splitter rifle. This will hurt though, and you should never do it if the Tone isn't alone.
Not true at all. Ion basically counters everything but Ronin if played correctly, and she's not countered by anything. She can completely disable a Tone by using her shield to absorb and redirect his missile barrage before it hits anyone(even her teammates, hint hint. You have NO idea how thankful they'll be when you boost in and save them with your shield, which has a much larger radius than you'd assume by looking at it), use those redirected missiles to weaken his shield, and then take pot shots at him whenever his shield is down. Don't leave you're shield up for too long, though, use it at the last second to absorb those rockets so you don't loose energy. The other Titans are simple to counter as well, with the excpetion of Ronin, who can either destroy you or leave you very low on health. He has no real advantage against you, but you have nothing against him and you're slightly weaker at close range than mid to long ranges, so you're at a bit of a disadvantage. For everyone else, though: -She counters Northstar in the simplest way possible, absorbing her sniper shots. That's the ONE thing she has to work with and the ability to throw up your shield for a second, capture, and toss back the sniper round without loosing much energy is insane against her and leaves her with no options whatsoever aside from running away with her superior speed. -Legion is countered easily enough, stay behind cover, pop out and snipe at him with your laser, then duck back in until you have enough energy to do it again. Rinse and repeat. -Scorch is DESTROYED by Ion. Simply stay away from him and don't let him flame shield you. His attacks are easy to avoid and you only need to pop out of cover for a second to attack with your laser. He simply has nothing he can use against you unless you mess up and let him gain the upper hand and back you into a corner or something.
3vilbill Gaming How to use minimap 101: Look at it. Blue is your team orange are the enemies. Green batteries are batteries that give your titan or a teammates a shield.
Ok don't take this the wrong way but you missed some key points regarding ion play (still nice video tho and I'm sure it helped some super weak players). If you want to take ion play to the next level you should have told your viewers that ion is not an all around versatile Titan, he is a anti infantry sniper. Ion will be outclassed by every other Titan 1v1. What he lacks in dmg potential he makes up for in range and hit scan speed. Grand cannon is a waste as you should not rely on laser core for dmg output. Go zero point so that the trip can be used for free allowing two full shoulder laser shots and then you can dash out of combat with a free lane block. Go for crits when fighting Titans (nice u mentioned that) but don't engage beyond two laser shots and whatever splitter rifle shots u can get in for free without a counter attack (also never ever use the split shot unless u have bad aim and need to hit a fast pilot, save the energy for the laser shot. When I saw so much split in your clips it freaked me out). All in all your job as ion is to snipe and goose pilots with laser shot and cover your team, sniping Titans occasionally and cutting off lanes with ur tripwire. In regards to laser core, save it for a gank as your aim speed is so slow that if you are playing against a good player (not great just good) then they will dodge a head on attack (unless backed into a wall). There are many misconceptions about how to play certain Titans, ion and ronin in particular and I wanted to clear it up.
I find the most OP titan in the meta the Tone and it focuses on using its shield and playing this pop out of hard cover style gameplay and seems to be generally more built for it better than the ion. How do you play when you are dueling vs the tone?
Wait, so you can't change the primary weapon on a Titan? That definitely seems like a downgrade from the first game. Was looking forward to putting the sniper on a ronin.
Brian Dionne well for the Titans in this game the primary weapon is closely tied to their kit. If you could switch weapons their abilities would completely fall apart.
chrizzay1 I used to run the sniper on Strider back in tf1. Very effective. Ronin would fit my playstyle more than the other titan's playstyle. That and I f'ing hate the damn shotgun he has....
Shoulder laser will one-hit doomed state Titans if hit in a crit spot. So when you see those slanted lines on their health shoot them in the face with it. Insta-kill. Best way to get the pilot before they eject.
NovaNihil I know. People think that they can get away with fighting doomed but you can take the swiftly and with surprise. Legions power shot and a fully charged North Star shot can do the same I think.
I just got the game yesterday and I’m not to good at keeping my titan alive for a long time so I have to use the 20% boost in the core. But, if I were to use the extended core, how long is the extra amount of time?
i disagree with your "dont use vortex shield against an enemy ion" ik that you cant throw back energy coming from ion but you can use it for defense against her
Don't forget to goose pilot with the laser shot. Haven't seen this in your video...you missed that...really important with Ion. If you play well with Ion, you can kill legion with just the Vortex Shield. Not even have to use Laser Core. Don't waste it on Legion. Why didn't you finish Legion at 11:05, one laser would have been more than enough... 11:50 where is the goose ????
I keep telling people this, you can stop the usage of your core if you press the same button you did to active it, don't risk getting that 1 kill with the last bit of your ion, instead, save 20,30 or even 30% of your core, apart from that really enjoy your extra content
That works?! I did not know this! Awesome
works for ion i think, thats what ive currently needed to stop at least
oh my, really??? will try this now.hehehe
Wait a minute does this actually work? Can u stop ions laser core and save parts of it for later or something? I'll try this and let yall know. Hopefully lol
Are you making these Titanfall videos a regular thing? Because if you are, that'd be great, brilliant game and I'd love to see videos from you on it!
Do a series for this, it's quite helpful
Reese Bolton
When I started playing Titanfall 2 again. I was garbage. This video has made me a master at using ion. I wish I could send you my clips. But this video was all I needed to see to master ion. Thank you.
Yessss, more titan fall! Regardless of what they say TV, I really enjoy watching you play this game.
ION is my favorite mech by far. It's comfortable at most distances, and aesthetically is right up my alley.
That extended Laser Core is OP as hell! :o
Great video and guide. Would love a Northstar guide next.
Excited to see you doing these titanfall videos, dude. This game needs all the support it can get launching next to Battlefield and CoD. It's damn good.

Can you make a full breakdown on all the titans?
Hey man big fan of your destiny videos can't wait to see more of them to come also this has really helped me out with titanfall keep it up
Hilarious how there's a video out there for every titan explaining why it's the best.
Smokin Pork All powerful ? Yeah no wonder why everyone uses Tone.
Smokin Pork She is op and requires no skill or strategy to get a kill
The game is retarded they rate Tone and Legion 3 stars while Ronin and Northstar are 1 star.
thank you TV so much you have inspired me to be a RUclipsr I don't care what people say but you are the best RUclipsr around
One time I used the vortex shield when a legion rushed me and took out 3 pilots behind him by reflecting his shots
If you can land consistent crits with the splitter rifle the entangled energy perk can be really awesome, you can't go wrong with faster recharge of the energy.
The only thing I gotta disagree with is not bothering with the vortex shield on other ions. If you can really cleanly catch a laser shot or two, they've wasted a lot more energy than you did popping that shield for a second or two and you still get to return some laser shots or splitter rifle rounds. personally I enjoy the zero point trip wire. this allows me to shoot my shoulder laser twice back to back. Especially if I get a flank on the titan. I trip wire them, shot them in the back with the regular fire mode and as soon as they turn around I hit them with two shots into the crit with the laser and then dip. I believe it allows for more DPS
Awesome Titanfall videos TV, please keep it up!
Man TV is slaying every game
Good video; would love to see continued content for Titanfall 2!
It's so damn good to hit a pilot with the laser
Primal Chaotix There is nothing more satisfying than lasering that one jerk who keeps murdering you right out of the sky.
Zero trip wire energy is amazing combined with using that laser shot often.
As I said in another comment, ion is a staple for me. But I've always felt like I was using her wrong, and now I know....I'm a noob. Thank you.
ion is a lot of fun. Pilot kills with the laser are very satisfying, especially goosers.
Great video! I am loving Titandfall 2. You need to start a True Vanguard network! :D
love that you are covering this game ! keep it up !
Aiming with the splitter rifle and getting crits can do insane damage.
lol this, I just commented, that i don't use the cannon, I ADS the splitter Have the crits give you energy kit and I can kill titans quick

Would love to see more videos on the other Titans at some point.
Thank you for continuing to make content on this game

personally i like Ronin. that one just WOW. i was a big fan of stryder in THE FIRST ONE, and its just the same for me
Good stuff! Glad to hear your thoughts on this game.
Good stuff... I'm like Gen 4 in the ION and will benefit from a lot of these tactics.
Hey TV, what do you think of the Double Take sniper rifle? It's a very unique weapon. Maybe you should do a video on it?
Hey TV, I'm a Destiny loving regular guardian, who has been watching you since your how to snipe guide. I have learnt so much over the past year from your videos, and although I am not the best player, I'd like to share my experience and tips for crucible too, so I made this channel, however I was wondering if you had any tips for a brand new channel?? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Ion is such an under used titan, once you understand how to use him it's sooooo much fun. Ion's shield is probably my favorite ability in the game.
keep up the work vanguard
keep doing this series!! but dont stop making destiny video cause i love both games. love your video man!
This is the only titan I use, mine is a 5.0. I use turbo engine and refraction lense
I just bought Titanfall 2, and I was using the ION really awful, now I understood how should be, thanks
The vortex shield can catch the bullets from another Ion's LaserCore.
the key is to alternate between normal rifle, splitter riflee, shield until u get the core
More Titan guides please!
Can you please make guides for the other titans? Scorch in particular. thanks.
Do more of this videos TV i have put so many hours into ronin and a detailed breakdown would be awesoeme! Also can you make a network like TrueVanguard network or something so we might have a chance to play with you?
What are your thoughts on the game so far?
I was thinking on buying a new shooter and can't decide If I'll buy Titanfall 2 or the new CoD
You have a point there but CoD has more Twitch viewers and a lot of tournaments and maybe solid PvP player base
Benedictus Galih Puntadewa I should probably go to Titanfall. CoD is getting so much bad reviews
you SHOULD use your vortex shield even if you're going up against another ion. it's not just meant to throw bullets back, you can also use it to not get damaged! other than that and a few other things I disagree with, great vid
I'm not gonna get used to you saying what's up pilots at the beginning of the video, but I do love this tf2 content.
Curry Commando tf2 = team fortress 2 bro gotta call it titfal2
Curry Commando tf2 = team fortress 2 bro gotta call it titfal2
+fxssaywhat oh lol I forgot about that. Thanks for telling me man :)
fxssaywhat sounds inappropriate
what are you 12 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Are you gonna be making more guides about using the other titans?
Nice video, subbed!
man you play completely different from me, I rarely use the laser cannon and if I do I only use it on pilots, I use the ADS 2nd fire on the splitter and vortex to close the gap with Ion
TV you should try the original titanfall, it's a lot of fun and you could see the difference between the two
Jack Myers
PS4
the matchup favors ion heavily for ion vs legion at least in my experience. However the ion is very weak vs the tone.
not true ion can out beat tone
For everyone else, though:
-She counters Northstar in the simplest way possible, absorbing her sniper shots.
David Bruder Ronin is male Tone is female
You should do this for all titans it would be great
I remember the tech test i played scorch and wrecked 90% of the ions I went up against
Hey thanks man really helped
Yo TV please please make guides on all the titans that would be ace!
Are you planning to do a video on the minimap / radar and how to use it?
3vilbill Gaming How to use
minimap 101: Look at it.
There are many misconceptions about how to play certain Titans, ion and ronin in particular and I wanted to clear it up.
please do Titanfall 2 videos daily you are amazing a Titanfall 2 just like at Destiny
Nice vid keep up the good work
More of this please
does anyone else love it when people say the ion sucks then you reck them
wow this video was great i tried this in last titan standing and ended up with 11 kills
but instead of extra dash i used start with core at 20%
I find the most OP titan in the meta the Tone and it focuses on using its shield and playing this pop out of hard cover style gameplay and seems to be generally more built for it better than the ion. How do you play when you are dueling vs the tone?
I beat tone easily with ion
Wait, so you can't change the primary weapon on a Titan? That definitely seems like a downgrade from the first game. Was looking forward to putting the sniper on a ronin.
Brian Dionne at first it seems bad but it actually makes the game way more balanced
Brian Dionne Think of the titans this time as heroes in overwatch, they have specific roles and plays styles designed for them.
Brian Dionne
well for the Titans in this game the primary weapon is closely tied to their kit. If you could switch weapons their abilities would completely fall apart.
Brian Dionne well it would also be a downgrade to put a damn sniper on a Ronin, thank them for saving you from a stupid loadout
chrizzay1 I used to run the sniper on Strider back in tf1. Very effective. Ronin would fit my playstyle more than the other titan's playstyle. That and I f'ing hate the damn shotgun he has....
Great, helpful video. Now a subscriber. thanks!
But, if I were to use the extended core, how long is the extra amount of time?
i disagree with your "dont use vortex shield against an enemy ion" ik that you cant throw back energy coming from ion but you can use it for defense against her
my favorite is tone than northstar than ion then legion and scorch are tied with ronin comming in last
You are who you choose to be...
I AM SUPERMAN!
okay which ones a better use for energy? the laser shot or the alt fire for the main weapon?
How about a how to snipe effectively in titanfall video?
Don't forget to goose pilot with the laser shot. Haven't seen this in your video...you missed that...really important with Ion.
If you play well with Ion, you can kill legion with just the Vortex Shield. Not even have to use Laser Core. Don't waste it on Legion.
Why didn't you finish Legion at 11:05, one laser would have been more than enough...
11:50 where is the goose ????
Love attrition (team death match) the meta games pilots then Titans and the end
PSA. You can call down a titan on top of an enemy. Happened to me the other night and wrecked my Ion. :)
3vilbill Gaming Warp fall transmitter allows you to do that much easier if that is your play style
Other than killing pilots, the laser actually looks consistently worse than the gun. Using the splitter alt does so much damage against enemy titans
What are your thoughts on entangled energy?
How do u zoom in while using the laser canon(shoulder weapon)
