Hi, does the timelapse function wear a lot on the shutter or is that nothing to worry about? Cheers,
It doesn't use physical shutter for timelapses, but electronic one, so the shutter is not worn at all.
Thanks for the detailed guide to the timelapse 👍
Thank you!!!! Going to attempt capturing the sunrise here on the farm! I tried before and got a white out at the end because I had setting on exposure fixed first frame. Greetings from Virginia!!
Greetings! I'm sure you are used to early mornings on the farm, i'm sure it will work a treat.
glad i found this video! that each frame AE setting is sick!
This was excellent Fernando! Thanks sooo much. 👍🏾
thanks for sharing. I bought this camera 2 days ago, and I didn't get chance to use it, yet. But maybe, tomorrow, I may have a first try, just around Mosman area.
@@FernLecaros can't wait to buy some extra lenses as well
No problem, Fernando--thanks again for your very helpful video; keep them coming!
You explained this really well!!
I'm going to try a timelapse next time I shoot!
You’ll have lots of fun 😄
Very useful tutorial. Now I'm ready how to cope with it.
Hi Ya mate just watched this over again and I must congratulate you on your explanation and presentation. It takes a bit of time to pound something into my head now days but with the easy pace that you conduct your reports makes it feel great. Going to the Air Show next week will be there as a host/volunteer with RAAF Museum and privately as well so I can give the M50 a great work out stay safe and thanks
Really useful and explained very clearly, thank you!
Thanks for that class! I can't wait to use this on my new M50!
@@FernLecaros so far i am! Thanks.
Informative video. Thanks a lot.
I noticed while shooting on the M50 today that when you use an Ef-S lens like the 10-18mm with an M mount adapter, the video screen looks very different. It still shoots the timelapse though.
Also, I noticed that you cannot transfer the timelapse from the camera to the phone through wifi. U can transfer videos and photos though.
@@FernLecaros hahahaha. True that. But to be honest, the M50 can do 90% of what is expensive Fuller siblings can do.
Thanks so much for this video its awesome I really want to get a canon m50 and you really explained everything so nicely Thanks for sharing my friend keep in touch will be back for more of your great content
Please do my friend you make great content and i find it very helpful Please keep in touch with us.
Thanks you. I will try it when I travel next week.
Great video, Fernando, but what camera were you using when you were on the "Crow's Nest?" Really bad rolling shutter! Thanks again for the video; it was very helpful!
@@FernLecaros It must have caused by the wind; I know the G85 is a great camera!
I just watched this video and found your channel and I am so HAPPY!! I was looking to learn how to use time lapse on my M-50 and so happy to have found your tutorial came up as one of the top 2 or 3 videos for this, just wanted you to know that first off! Second Love your video and your enthusiasm and just had to sub! So i am sub'ing, commenting and liking a hopefully i will learn how to do this then I will let you know when i do my time lapse video so you can watch and tell me how i did👍😆🎥🌴🎬 So looking forward to seeing many other videos from your channel! I want to learn 4K next! I just shoot in movie/video mode now and find that I am so basic with this camera and i know ther are sooo many things that I could be doing with it?! ! Just glad i found your channel!
Fernando Lecaros Hey Fernando! Guess What?!?! We did our video last night and we learned from Your video! Great Share, Great Video and the end results *fingers crossed* should be posted in our vlog today!👍😍🎬🎥👀 We did our Very first Time lapse recording last night and i actually posted a quick phone video to my channel last night if you can find it (should be in new videos released or current vidoes) but I recorded some 'same scene shots' at the same time that we were doing the time lapse to see the difference and i will hopefully be able to put it in side by side?? My editing is very basic bc i have never in my life edited on ANY program and Now I am in davinci resolve which i just absolutely Looove!!! But very complicated and if you know the program you know that "Fusion" is confusing and scary to everyone so to me it is just "ooohmmygggooooshhh what WAS i thinking😅😅😭😭😭🤯? Anyhow, tonite I will be posting our vlog with our time lapse in it that we learned from you and your video here! Hopefully you can check it our and tell us what YOU think about it?!!? Thank you again for this Awesome video and I will be "Binging" Many of your videos this weekend! Have a Great Day Fernando and Talk soon!🎥👀💕👍👍😍🎬😆😎😃 Oh i almost forgot I may upgrade cameras soon would you say a SONY, CANON or NIKON??? For Vlogging close up and doing 4k and time lapse videos? Ty!
@@FernLecaros Thankyou for this info! What are your thoughts on the sony vs everyone for DSLR and just all around better camera?
Great video! I just bought a m50 it was helpful 👌💪
Ah...sorry for losing your favorite hat, this video has been most helpful for me since I'm planning to use this time-lapse feature on my trip to shanghai next month.
Thank you for this video. I'm going to test this out today
Have fun!
Great information
Very nice tutorial. Just got this camera and this video will come in handy for setting up a timelapse. Did you get your hat back?!
Thanks for sharing this :)
Thanks a lot!! Excited to try it while stargazing tonight :)
Have fun!
Hi mate, thank you. after watching maybe 40 videos on the m50 yours is the first to feature the intro tilt shift (is that what it's called?) option and your explanation to Brian W below is appreciated. I'm sure many would love to see a video specifically on this feature if your looking for things to cover.
Very helpful video. Thank you!
Is there any way to set the shutter speed when filming a night time lapse?
This video helped a lot, thanks! 👍
Thank you for a very easy to understand instructions I am just on the verge of buying the M50 as have to change cameras due to health stay safe and thanks
Even though I own the Sony RX100 M5
Is it still worth me purchasing the Canon eos M50. I know the advantage of the M50 is the microphone input but is it still worth me getting one even if you ignore this feature ?
This is great! Thanks!
Really useful for me.
awesome video thank you
Thank you sir 😊
What battery do u use to last more then an hour for time lapse that takes 4 hours plus? Sorry I am new to all these and trying to learn about all these features,as I just recently bought the same camera.
Hi There, that was one of the major irks of the M50, the fact that you could not charge it via USB for extended time-lapses, i've been thinking about hacking the CA-PS700 power adapter to charge off a USB battery, that would be the best thingI can think of. Other cameras like the Panasonic G85 have an add on battery grip which overcomes this issue. I guess Canon wants you to buy a D6 MkII for timelapses. One day we will have the portable camera that does it all.
Technoramus thank you, yes that is annoying! Let us know how you go with the idea and where we can buy the USB battery here in Sydney Australia?
Let me do a little digging around ;)
Technoramus thank you oh also if u don't mind camera lenses? Where in Sydney or suburbs would be the best to buy affordable lenses. thanks hope I'm not asking too much.
Thanks. That was great!
What did you focus at while shooting the last timelapse of the city bay? I never seem to get proper exposure of both sky and the buildings while transitioning from day to night...
@@FernLecaros I meant for exposure metering, mate. Did you choose some building for the metering point, and which mode have you used, like spot, evaluatinve, etc? In my case the video becomes either good exp at the beginning becoming underexposed during night, or vice versa (overexposed day, properly exposed night). The camera can't handle that wide range of exposures...
thank you
After the camera finishes taking the photos, does the camera automatically perform the timelap video?
Hi! Yes it saves a Timelapse video to your card.
great video thank you!!!
Hope you got your hat back! Thanks for going through this.
I added a few more to the collection since then. 😎
Can you show us , in the field how this M50 tracking the video focusing with large apertures. For example with the 50mm 1.8 stn , at 1.8, or the 22mmf2 stm, at f2. In still objects, it's ok, but what about tracking on moving objects, like walking people, at f1.8 ? Thank´s.
Have you done any night time long exposure time-lapse videos ?
Hi! The sensor on the M50 is not good with low light, so the results where not great when I tried, but I recently purchased a 1.4 Sigma lense that may help. I’ll be making a vid in that soon.
@@FernLecaros Thanks! Looking to do astro-photography time-lapse and those traffic scenes with long streaks of light from moving cars.
Thanks for the info, is it possible to change shutter speed for night lapses ie 5 sec exposure for shooting stars? thanks :) Tim
Hi I have just bought the m50 and wonder if you would know how in time-lapse you can select a shutter speed less than 8th of a second in Manuel mode? I want to use the camera for night time-lapse and would need to have at least 10sec shutter speed for the stars, any help would be appreciated thanks Tim
How many spare batteries should I purchase with this camera ?
Scene 1 is 00:04:59 video and 00:00:12 play time so how do you change then 00:04:59 to thirty minutes. Mine shuts off after 5 minutes. Is that the only time lapse minutes you can have in Scene 1?
let me check this out, left the camera at the studio, i'll get back to you John.
@@FernLecaros I'd be very grateful.
hmm it'd be nice if there was a third exposure option that used a sort of decaying time-based average, to smoothly capture changes in light rather than having each frame bouncing around and jittering :/
How do you focus the lens on timelapse, I find that it blurs
Hi! Set it to manual focus, you’ll avoid any issues that way.
On the M50 is it normal to see a bright blue little pixel in the same place on the screen and through the viewfinder if in a dark room or if I cover the lens with my hand ?
Fernando Lecaros I have just fixed the problem. I went into the menu and found that it gave me the option to perform a sensor clean and hey presto it worked 😃
Can I adjust the shutter speed of this camera when shoot time lapse? I wanted to have some blur effects on moving objects.
Is this in time lapse or photo? Hoping I can do this in time lapse. Thanks.
Has this camera got mains power input so you can use it from the mains ?
Fernando Lecaros I’m so wanting to get this M50 but I also own a Sony RX100 M5 so I’m thinking should I get it to add to my growing collection of cameras without feeling guilty.
Fernando Lecaros that was an excellent reply and i would like to thank you so much for your time in doing so.
Keep up the good work as your videos are really awesome ! 👍

Is there any time limit like video(30min) in timelapse
Hi there, not from an intervalometer perspective, you can set for a long shoot, but the issue is with the battery life. That’s the limiting factor.
What if you interrupt the time lapse, before it ends? will it still record the video?
oh, thanks, i also forgot to ask, does it only record it as a movie? I didn't see an option where it can order the individual files and I will post process the timelapse.
Thanks mate, fucked my night to day timlapse up. Know I know how to fix it
Can you get raw images time-lapse from the M50 just like pana gx85 do?
@vimut2020
Option 1: Use manual photo mode. Set the drive mode to continues custom. Then it will keep taking pictures until you tell it to stop. You will have to create the video file yourself in post obviously.
Option 2: I have found that if you have android phone you can use the third party app called DSLR Controller to control the m50 over the Wi-Fi connection. It allows you to do the custom settings. Setting exposure time and interval time. It's basically a Wi-Fi remote (intervalometer). It gives much more custom options then the default cannon app. But it does cost $7ish USD for the app.
I seem to be having a problem with time-lapse on my canon Eos m50 -
The problem:
The camera seems to START the time-lapse without any issues and begins snapping photos as intended however once it takes 5 -10 pictures the camera goes black and gives NO indication that it is doing anything. It seems as if the camera freezes and fails to record anything.
I CAN get this to work slightly better if I baby-sit the camera and hit the (info) button to toggle the display on and off while manually stopping the recording with the shutter button. I'll add that the only buttons that will "wake" the camera is the shutter button and record button. Turning the camera off-then-on works as well, but this results in no images saved.
At first I thought perhaps the camera was just going into power saving mode but the images where still being recorded with zero indication - or maybe the exposure settings didn't allow the pictures to be taken (automatic black-magic?)
I've tried changing all of the settings (I think) - Reset the camera system back to default - lowered filming quality - tried different lenses - different SD cards- Beep/no beep and still no result.
Has anyone else had similar issues like this? Can't seem to find any documentation around! Seems like everyone just sets it up in the menu and then it works!
Hello, did your problem are resolved? I have the same problem too
Just got this camera. Really disappointed in it. No port for remote and I got this to do a Milky Way shot. New moon on the 28th. I’ll just use my trusty old SL2 but no 4K.
Thanks for responding. I would need an introvolometer for astrophotography
there is a way to manually set the time-lapse settings, like long exposure time-lapse, or in case of shooting with a manual lens?
@@FernLecaros yes, a heard that theres no way to set long exposure time-lapse on the camera , that can be a dealbreaker for me, i wanna to do astrophotography and milky way time-lapses.
@Gabriel Teixeira yes you can set manual exposure ect settings. I just tried it and it works good. It's at first is not apparent how to do it. Here is what you must do.
1. enter manual video mode.
2. Set your settings how you want. stops, iso ect.
3. switch to time lapse video mode.
4. record.
If you are in auto video mode first then switch to time-lapse it wont work.
@@NextLevelCode i'm talking about long exposure, like 10 sec or more, theres no way to do this in video mode, you have to do in photo mode, and for that you need a intervalometer, for programing the shots, the M50 dont have that and neither have the port do plug in a control, the only camera that have this feature built in below the 80D in the 77D.
@ Gabriel Teixeira ah i see what you are saying now. Yeah if you want to do picture mode and make the video file yourself later you can do different options. Maybe not what you want still though. Here is what I found for you.
In manual photo mode you can set exposure time up to 30 seconds before bulb is required.
If you set drive mode to "continues custom" you can change the interval. from 1 second up to 10 seconds it will wait after taking each 30 second exposure. It will keep doing it forever until you press stop button.
Hope this helps friend. This camera maybe is not be good enough for you but it's always nice to know what the exact settings you can get are right? :)
@Gabriel Teixeira new development. I have found that if you have android phone you can use the third party app called DSLR Controller to control the m50 over the Wi-Fi connection. It allows you to do the custom settings like you were asking. Setting exposure time and interval time. It's basically a Wi-Fi remote (intervalometer) like you wanted. It gives much more custom options then the default cannon app. But it does cost $7ish USD for the app. Hope that can help you :) I was also interested in how to do this.

RIP your hat...thanks for the info, going to try it today for the first time.
