    What are your thoughts on Lost Ruins of Arnak? How does it compare to other worker placement or deck-building games you've played?

    • @BraidenWatling
      @BraidenWatling 3 года назад +3

      I can see why it's so popular! I love the deck building aspect to help your exploration/resource gathering. Seems like it would be very rewarding!

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  3 года назад +3

      Yeah it has a pretty different feel compared to other deckbuilders I've played. Your deck doesn't get a whole much larger, at least it didn't in the game I played, and there's tons of other mechanics and things going on that it's sort of a secondary mechanic. It's very good though and really interesting, looking forward to playing with 3 or 4.

      Love it with two comments...1] The edges of the cards chip easy when you shuffle them, so I recommend card sleeves...2] Our house rule is that Fear Cards are worth -5 points instead of -1. This makes sense to me because you start with 10 points due to the empty idol spaces and you start with 2 Fear Cards in your hand, so if they are -5 each, your cumulative starting score is 0. It also puts more pressure on you to defeat the guardians. Over all...LOVE THIS GAME!

    Hi this was a great tutorial! There was one error, however. When purchasing an item card, it does not go into your play area, but instead goes face down on the bottom of your draw pile. This guarantees that it will be drawn before your currently played cards re-appear. Only artifact cards go into your play area when purchased. This video was great, thanks!

    Hello. Uour voice is great to explain boardgames. Just a tip though. When I tried to understand your video, I often felt lost because of 2 things. 1)The problem with your rules explanation for me is that you never show the entire board and zoom in the part that you want to explain. It's much easier to be able to connect understanding to board location.
    2) you refer to things that are going to be explained later, giving no clue about what that future explanation will be about. That method interrupts the mental flow of the audience. E.g. when a location is discovered and a guardian comes, you completely stop and focus on sth else. You should say that this monster can be beaten but in another turn, and we'll get to how later. Then it's logical for the audience.
    Hope this helps.

    Grand video. I recently started playing Lost Ruins of Arnak. now I have two expansions for this game. After playing this game, I think it's one of the best board games. It is well made - solid elements, has wonderful colorful graphics, lots of mechanics (building a deck of cards, buying cards, collecting and exchanging raw materials, moving in several ways, conducting research, discovering excavation sites and much more). The game creates a very nice competition with other players for everything (cards, money, research, etc.). Playing Arnak also doesn't take much time, so it doesn't tire players. The only (but very, very small) disadvantage that I could almost forcefully come up with for this game is that it takes up some space on the table. Close to perfect, really. I recommend.

I even noticed a few set-up and game play errors I've made (Research track bonus tiles are placed face-up and each player reaching the temple row gets to pick from the stack there instead of taking the top tile). At present, this is the best how to play video for Lost Ruins of Arnak. Where this is better than other is 1) the length of the video, and 2) not getting bogged down in the theme of the game when explaining actions. It was a bit fast, but up-close shots of the cards allowed pausing to read and catch up. Great job of reiterating important concepts (e.g two things you can use a card for). Also great at explaining turn layout and focusing on the important parts (e.g announcing that action phase was important and going over each action carefully). This game is actually very simple, but is made more complex by the crazy names for resources (instead of gold, compasses and tablets, perhaps they should have been tumeric, cinnamon . and cadomom, or maybe just yellow, red, and green.) For future videos, it would be helpful to announce what is a resource us used for purchasing things and also go over card structure to identify costs and effects. Overall excellent video.

    • @bum170
      @bum170 3 года назад +2

      @@wicaksonoadi1035 I'm late to answer, but anyways
      Items move to the bottom of the deck immediately, you don't get anything *now* but this means it will be above whatever cards you played on the turn you bought it, and if you can get enough card draws, you can even use it that round. With artifacts, you instead get the artifact's effect immediately as if you played the card, and it goes in the play area.
      This is why there are more artifacts and less items as the game progresses. Items are an investment for a later benefit, and artifacts are an immediate benefit, but investing for later becomes less worth it as there is less time left, and immediate benefits are more useful.

      @AllYouCanBoard  5 месяцев назад

      Sorry Ryan, RUclips does all of that automatically. I think in general board game closed captioning isn't great because there are a lot of random terms that don't get used in every day conversation. We just don't have the time to read through and correct the closed captioning in all of our videos and have decided to leave in the automated versions rather than removing them entirely.
      Thanks for letting us know. We wish it was more accurate.

      @@AllYouCanBoard I appreciate not want to fix the automated captioning. But just so you know, in this particular video the closed captioning is always wrong, this isn't a case of a few random terms confusing it here and there. I feel like these explanations would be better if you'd start the explanation by telling me how to play. Instead you're telling me about how to set up the board with varying numbers of players.
    I don't care how to set up the board. I don't even have to set up the board, because BGA will do it for me.
    Don't tell me where to put the artifacts deck; instead, tell me what an artifact is and how I will interact with it.
