      Like rick beato says, Guthrie is probably the best all round jazz/rock/fusion, whatever you want to call it guitarists of today, awesome talent

    Really digging the Steven Wilson/porcupine tree rabbit hole I’ve dived myself into! “Steven” has got to be one of the most talented guys I’ve never heard of!

    ‘Ancestral’, ‘Refuge’ and ‘Detonation’ should be on your to do list. All available live on YT

      @jimstewart8122 Год назад +1

      I agree, but I would prefer the studio versions. The harmonica/guitar/synth section on Refuge is perfect on the studio version and the Ancestral solo should be Guthrie's version too. IMHO.

    This entire album is incredible. My favorite solo album from him. And 99% of everything Steven Wilson does is dark and depressing. But that is what makes it so good. lol.. Some of his newer stuff is happier and it seems to coincide with him getting married. Hopefully not a Yoko moment!

    Adam Holtzman - former touring band leader for Miles Davis - provides the amazing Moog solo. I've seen him perform it twice live and it was incredible to watch the other band members look on with delight as he played it. He's THAT good ;)

      I can't agree with you there. Most of the studio instrumentation/solos are perfect and a Guthrie's solos are always differently interpreted (butchered) live. Absorb the studio albums first before moving to the live stuff, I'd say.

    Steven Wilson is a genius musician and this is his best album. I love all of his albums both solo and with Porcupine Tree but Hand Cannot Erase is the one. The band on this album is so killer. Everything fell into place for this masterpiece. Thx for the reaction!

    Great reaction again, so glad you are doing more of Steven’s music, so so much to listen too, Ancestral and the watchmaker live are fantastic if you get round to them, keep rocking and hopefully stay on this journey 😁👍

    The only natural progression from here would be a reaction to The Aristocrats. Both Marco Minneman and Guthrie Govan are in this band with Brian Bellar completing this power trio. Cant get much better than them. Any song will do, honestly.

    This entire album is amazing. Imo Wilson’s best in his long career. Its not necessarily the most creative album, but damn if it isnt a perfect Prog rock album.

  • @6lillium
    @6lillium Год назад

    In concert , Steven actually plays the bass part on Home Invasion using a 5 string Spector Coda. The more melodic runs on the whole track are Nick Beggs on Chapman stick.

  • @yes_head
    @yes_head Год назад +1

    Hand. Cannot. Erase. followed The Raven that Refused to Sing (which "Luminol" was from.) It's a very similar album, but not quite as aggressively proggy. The same band plays on both albums. This is still during SW's drive to emulate groups like Zappa's where you had rock and jazz people playing next to each other. A lot of attention gets paid to Nick Beggs, of course, but in case you didn't know keyboard player Adam Holzman played with Miles Davis in the 80's. That Moog solo was stretched out a bit in concert and was pretty insane. And Guthrie is a great guitar player, but that was a hard act to follow! Dave Kilminster, who had played with Roger Waters, replaced Guthrie for most of the tour.

    Saw Steven perform this song at The Beacon Theater in Manhattan during that tour. Home Invasion is good but not as jumping as Luminol. Regret #9, which is when the moog kicks in brings it to a whole new ethereal level.

    Ok,ok!! I'll subscribe. Thanks to Brian for stumping up the cash.
    So, you're a Raven that Refused to Sing guy. That's ok. It's jazzier. I prefer rockier, so Hand. Cannot. Erase. for me, is Steven's best. To the Bone is also excellent and Refuge off of that album is magnificent. Brian? 😝😝
