This song literally has the best solo since Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. Chills.
One of my favorite tracks of all-time and the guitar solo is, possibly, my favorite of all-time. As someone else mentioned, the solo was done in 1 take. And with a broken string, according to Steven Wilson ( he talked about it during an interview ).
Wilson took delivery of a new Fender, with Fernandes sustainer pickups at the studio while recording the album. Guthrie picked it up and improvised this solo in one take.🤯
I wish I could give two thumbs up 👍
Great album, saw him live in Stockholm on that tour, they were delayed a few hours because a truck with their gear had an accident, well worth the wait, one of the best live shows I've ever seen!
Listening to the Raven (full album) now, amazingly good! So many possible influences, Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, even Chick Corea/Herbie Hancock ish.. could be just me though. But they still have a total unique style. Love it!
Great song and guitar solo !
“Go outside and smell some flowers or something “ 😆
Maybe you can start understanding why we were all thrown off when SW started making songs like Permanating. we were programmed to expect really dark and sad music. Then all of a sudden he's playing dance pop songs and smiling. LOL.
Routine was the other song you referred to. There are A LOT of sad songs from him. One is called Stop Swimming which almost made this last request list. His newer stuff is much happier. Seems to coincide a lot with his wife and getting married I think. Should I even joke about Yoko? ;)
And when you think about this song coming right after Luminol, really shows how impactful an album it is. Luminol is crazy and all over the place and then you calm down to something like this with more longer melodies. Even if I don't like a song from him, have to admit of his brilliance with bringing out emotion and full sound.
Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson Solo Music has Energized Prog Music the Past 30 Years Back from the 1970s Era…
I'm pretty sure the same artist did all the videos for this album. Jess Cope -- amazing, bam! 😉 SW went full prog on this album (the connecting theme is they're all ghost stories), even enlisting Alan Parsons to help with the production. Nick Beggs is awesome on bass and stick throughout. Apparently the brief to Guthrie for his solo was to lay back as much as possible and not just shred through the entire thing! Steven Wilson has used the idea of tragedies related to cars before, going back to "Heartattack in a Layby" from 2002. But yeah, he earned a reputation for exploring some pretty dark and disturbing themes. He joked once when introducing a song at a concert that "Someone described this as my saddest song, and *that's saying something!*" 😄 So at least he doesn't take himself all THAT seriously.
Another of her great videos is people who eat darkness which is a homage to Rear Window a classic film
Try the song The raven that refuses to sing, you'll hear another huge dark masterpiece. Try all the album, it's a masterpiece anyway. Try all from To the bone and Hand cannot erase, you'll be thrilled!
try anything by Steven Wilson ... ever
Gr8 tune😅
Guthrie is my fave, no wonder 😊
This one is great! Listen for the guitar lead.
Incredibly beautiful but depressing song.
Yeah, it also sucked that they didn't play the title song live, the best song on the album😢😂
Erm...they ended each concert with The Raven, SW sitting on a stool with his guitar
@@alanwaine4186 I don't remember that? That was a long day😂

😀
Not really a big fan of SW but this whole album is pretty damn fine.
You should re-react Luminol but live version
Yeah, I remember when solos started disappearing from songs. Couldn’t tell you why, but I didn’t like it then, and still don’t like it now. Love the solo on this song.
