A rare piece of art. Music and video perfectly matched to produce something hugely memorable, albeit tragic and terribly sad. Great, and I mean great, song and album.

Oh, and I meant to add, if you don't already know, the idea for the album came from a true story of a woman who lay dead in her flat/apartment for 3 years without anyone seeming to care that she was missing. I believe that it's not explicitly about that incident, but got Steven's mind ticking in that general, miserable direction.

Beautiful song. The visuals were heavy. Love the emotion. I only caught some of the lyrics, but the emotion in the music and the video kept me engaged.. “don’t ever let go, try to let go” what a great line. It embodies the turmoil within after a loved one dies. This is exactly how I felt after my parents died. I can’t imagine how deep this would be after losing a child like what the video depicts. We dont ever want to let go of the memories but we have to let go of the grief in order to continue to have a life and move on. Moving on sometimes feels like a betrayal to our deceased loved ones but its not. Failure to move on is actually the betrayal as our loved ones want us to move on and enjoy our lives. Well, just my 2 cents worth on a cold grey thought provoking morning in the Pacific Northwest with a cup of hot coffee and your reaction videos.
    Now on the Rush reaction!!

I believe the video was made to accompany the lyrics. I might be wrong but I believe they go hand in hand.
And congrats on not tearing up. This song has made even the hardcore person shed at least one tear.
There is a live version of this on his dvd release. It was an extra as it is from a rehearsal at Royal Albert hall. So entire place is empty and they play this with Ninet in person on vocals. Maybe that is what you should watch to hear the music. (And see them play it live).
Not sure you caught it but that high pitched singing near the beginning was a choir boy that SW brought in to perform. Even Geddy said “wow, that’s a high voice”. 😀

To listen to the song again without the distraction of the video (now you know the story) can I suggest the live version from a rehearsal at the Royal Albert Hall London. Brilliant performance in front of an empty arena. Its on YT

This video was one of the best kept secrets of the internet during this tour. When the people I went to the concert and myself saw this, we were entirely slack-jawed...the theater was entirely in shock. It was incredibly difficult to react, but years later... A stunning piece of art.

This was an intelligent reaction. I cried yet again. You jumped at the moment it went from the routine section to the aggressive instrumental.

Oh, wow. THIS one. Yeah. An absolute heartbreaker. By the way, the album that this song is from is an ABSOLUTE masterpiece. I highly recommend a start-to-finish listen, and preferably, in a format that does not insert the pauses between songs (as is often the case on streaming media). Because this album just flows beautifully all the way through.

Jess Cope's animation FTW. Not puppets but stop-motion. I think I mentioned this in another video, but Steven Wilson has been a frustrated soundtrack composer for a long time, and it comes through here in spades. He would introduce this in concert by saying "Someone said this is the most depressing song I've ever written. And THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING!"

Steven Wilson is an incredible artist. He has been likened to the David Bowie and with good reason. This such a brilliant moving piece, the super animation videos with this is excellent. He has gorgeous melodies, and is the true spirit of modern prog rock.

I’m so glad someone did a donation request for this. It’s one of the best marriages between music and video that I’ve ever seen. It also gave me a better appreciation for the song and that that album as a whole.

My first listen didn't hit me that hard, but after learning what it's about and watching the video a couple of times, it now makes me cry every time. It's the only song/music video I know that can do that to me. I never usually cry. But it's just such a perfectly captured moment of what it's like to lose your family and barely hanging onto reality by sheer force of habit.

I'm like Justin - I need to just go listen without the video... I need to be prepared to handle something heavy... I'm someone (and I've told Justin this) who still gets angry at John Lennon's murder when some situation just brings it all up yet again... I think it's clear that I'm never getting over Lennon's murder, I apologize for getting TMI, but I think it's not inappropriate in the context of this reaction....
