Streets Of Rage Games | Every Game Reviewed - My Retro Life - Игры
Hey guys! This video has been in the works for a long time. Sorry for the delay! Hope you enjoyed this look back at the Streets of Rage series. Got a series favorite? What did you think of SOR 4? Let me know in the comments. Also, if you're interested in joining the new POWER TEAM My Retro Life membership, head on over to patreon.com/myretrolife.
I've always been a huge Streets Of Rage fan, played all the genesis ones. When they announced there was going to be a 4 I downloaded it to my Nintendo Switch and beat it on release day, great game.
Streets of Rage 2 was the first game I remember really mastering. I'm so happy with how 4 came out. Got my 8 year old into that and then he moved on to love 2 on the Genesis Mini. Love this franchise.
Yes bruh, I new how to press the buttons in a motion where I could do combo's and special moves perfectly
Man this channel is great. I just keep rewatching episode after episode and I’m always having a blast doing that. 👍
No mention of Streets of Rage Remake? It’s not official, but it’s a love letter to the series and a must play for diehard fans.
I was hoping somebody had mentioned this. The Remake is a masterpiece.
EXCELLENT VIDEO!
Really enjoyed the look at each game man!
Great video, man. I haven't played the new SOR4 DLC but I hear that that's really good too.
Streets of Rage 4 is my favorite right now. I still haven’t given the original trilogy a lot of playtime yet but I’ll dive back into them soon.
24 minutes of retro life goodness. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
I agree with you about what Yuzo was able to do on the Mega Drive was pretty amazing. It's definitely a soundtrack for the ages.
SOR is an amazing series, with a soundtrack that's unparalleled. I'm so happy to see that SOR4 lives up to its series expectations, and delivers gameplay so good, it makes me wish the first few games were redone with it!
I remember getting Streets of rage 2 and was amazed how much better the graphics were compared to the first game. It’s still my favorite beat’em up to this day. Thanks for all the work you put into these videos.
Absolutely Colin
Streets of Rage is probably the first video game I ever really fell in love with. I'll never forget my dad bringing the first one home one fateful evening, and watching that intro -- with the amazing music -- for the first time. I don't think I could even read yet at the time, and my dad narrated the text. So many great memories playing it with family members and neighbors/friends. SoR2 was just as awesome, and I have probably just as many fond memories of it, but I think the original had a better OST. Plus, Adam was my guy, and I was quite disappointed he was missing in 2. Skate _almost_ made up for it, and he was my main in SoR2. SoR3... just had some kind of weird, off-putting vibe for me at the time. The music, weirdness/Zan, and the difficulty I think probably had a lot to do with it. My father and sister were pretty big into it (my sister loved Roo), but it didn't really hit with me. In later years I grew to really appreciate it and all the great enhancement in mechanics it actually brought to the table, but at the time, I kind of viewed it as the dud/turd of the series.
I was hyped for SoR4 as soon as it was announced, and even more thrilled when they announced Adam was finally returning as a playable character. The game is damn good, yeah, but I also feel like they made some boneheaded decisions along the way. The combo system is a blast, but they also removed a bunch of other mechanics from the series past. No more reversals when grabbed, no more double team moves like Skate vaulting off a teammate's shoulders for a launch attack (that was some of the funnest stuff in cooperative play!), and everyone has been gimped of the run function from SoR3 except for Cherry. And Cherry just doesn't really do it for me. She feels too much like an anime character or something, and I would have much preferred seeing an adult Skate instead. Floyd is like an amalgamation of Max & Zan, and how 'bout you just give me Max & Zan instead, and come up with something a little more original for a new character? I know story doesn't matter in these games, but still, I feel like SoR3 presented a more engaging storyline with better presentation, so that's a step backwards.
Having now just played Streets of Rage Remake for the first time... I have to say that it is the true, ultimate Streets of Rage experience, and that's not something I would say lightly. It's even more of a love letter to the series than SoR4, packed with loads of content - much more content than SoR4, almost replacing the original trilogy, if I'm being honest. And it's quite clear to me now that SoR4 took more than a few cues from it. Apart from graphical style, though, SoRR is a better game -- and a better SoR4 itself -- than SoR4 is in just about every way. Official licensing be damned.
Anyway. SoR1 probably still stands as my favorite, simply because of the music, and the nostalgia and impact that that game had on me. And it's still fun to play decades later. Especially in stereoscopic 3D on the N3DS.
I remember playing this when I was visiting my dad in the summer of the 90's. I packed up my SEGA and he lived in another region of the country, when I got to his place the next day and popped this is in I was transported to this pixel world of cool music, classic beat'em up moves and a game that was simple but knocked the experience out the park. Man what a cool game, this game is the definition of simple is better.
I just added an MVSX cabinet to my game room, and the Genesis Streets of Rage trilogy is among the Sega games I added to the cab. I've got some TV marketing stuff to take care of tonight, but if I'm not completely braindead by the time I'm done, I think I'll be playing some SOR1 on an arcade machine, where it belongs :-)
When a friend pissed you off for no particular reason so you waited for the perfect time to go upside his head with a lead pipe or toss him into a pit. Memories. I love the part in SOR2 when it's raining right before the boss fight.
Great video! I just found and really enjoy your channel. I grew up on SoR 1 & 2 on the Genesis. Great memories! 4 is fantastic and I was able to get my 9 year old daughter into the series with it. Playing couch co-op was such a cool moment and brought me back to a simpler time. Thanks for the great content!
When I first played Streets of Rage on Genesis, it was as if the whole world had stopped spinning for a moment. It was an encounter of a lifetime. The game I've had always been waiting for without knowing it. Its OST and sound effects were absolutely mindblowing. I just couldn't get enough out of this masterpiece of a game. And even after all these years have passed us by, this game's infectious charm is still as intact as ever.
Awesome review, Tyler and I'm glad to see you back! One of my favorite gaming memories was renting the first Streets of Rage for Genesis in 1992 and beating the game with my older brother. It was actually the first game I ever beat. I still absolutely love the first level and its awesome music.
You forgot sometthing! Shiva, Roo and Ash are unlockable characters on Bare Knuckle 3, and they are awesome!
SoR (along with my other Mega Drive games such as NBA Jam, all the Sonics and Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike) was my childhood. Played the hell out of all of them but SoR 2 was my all time favourite and I still love playing it.
Great video!
SOR 4 was worth the wait, I had my doubts but they knocked it out of the park. It couldn't have gotten any better treatment. I'm so grateful to have seen such a brilliant sequel. They surpassed the original trilogy-- how is that possible? And this is the same team making a sequel to Turtles in Time? My heart can't handle this. Let's hope they snag Golden Axe next! Hell, think about Final Fight too-- maybe a merger with SOR 5. Anyone think Capcom would allow it?
Streets of Rage is one of the the games all of my friends and I would play when we got together. I remember some long, hot summer days as a kid playing this game with my friends and neighbors. Nothing could beat the summer heat like these games. Those were the days! 👍
Just stumbled upon your channel and LOVE IT. Thanks for taking the time to share those childhood memories and video game insight. Brings back tons of memories watching your channel.
By the way - the Streets of Rage series is/was amazing. Well worth a dedicated video.
Great video! Loved every minute.
Haha wow, I had no idea that was what Ash’s boss music sounded like. I’d like to get BK3 for my collection but yeah….insane dollars at this point. Fantastic video, SoR is probably my favorite game franchise ever
Tyler, your content is awesome. Keep it coming man. Streets of Rage 2 and 4 are my favorites! Would love to see your personal top 5-10 games for each of the systems you owned. I know it was in a lot of your videos, but would be fun to see you focus on a particular system in each video.
Really enjoyed this video, appreciate the time and effort put into it. Streets of Rage franchise is one of my all time favourites and watching this video makes me want to play them again. Thanks for sharing, great video!
Great video. Awesome series. My first SOR experience was the single player version on the Sega CD and was blown away. Its always amusing how the police car can drive inside boats, industrial complexes but not the final mansion for some reason. That was crossing the line.
I'm such a big fan of the SOR franchise. This vid was great Tyler. Keep it up.
I love this series! I think SoR2 is my favorite overall, but I like all of them all the same. The soundtrack is a high point of the series for sure!
I want to tell you how awesome your bunch of your retro videos are !! It takes me into this era !! Thank you so much man !!! I would love to meet you and discuss about our relate past ! I am french and do not talk fluently English but enough to share great memories with some of the consoles you showed I had !!!
Thanks man and most of all do not stop to share those magical , mind blowing video games 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! I appreciate everything you said
I was soo addicted to streets of rage 2 that, I rented it just to play it on my neighbor friends Genesis bcus I didn't have 1. I had to wait until his parents came home b4 I cld bring it over 2play. The music, controls and graphics were so awesome I still play it on a Genesis emulator nowadays because I love it soo much.
Such a great review of the series - it's clear to see the passion you have for kicking ass with your friend 😀
SOR 4 has been such a fun throwback to the originals and is my go-to game when i've got 20 minutes to try a round of survival, and the music is amazing too.
I love this video!! The Streets of Rage series is still one if favorite games to play to this day 😊
That Bare Knuckle 3 boss at 12:27 lmao 🤣 they should include Ash in a NA rerelease, you know he shouldn't feel left out lol
Awesome video! SOR is definitely one of my favorite game series of all time. Only thing missing was mentioning that Roo and Shiva are playable characters in SOR3. Roo by beating the clown dude before you beat Roo and Shiva by holding down B after you beat him at the end of the first level. It’s pretty cool playing with both of those characters!
I have incredibly fond memories of playing SOR1 on my Genesis 6-PAK cart. It was years before I knew of or played the sequels. While I like the gameplay improvements of 2, there was just something incredibly mystical about 1 for me
Loved the video. I got the same Limited Run version. I just converted an Arcade 1up into a full on SOR cabinet. I also added the Remake on there. Can''t wait to see if they make a part 5.
Always love the content. Keep up the great work 💪🏼. Love whenever the vids drop
One of your best episodes yet. Wish I could still find your Nights into Dreams video though. Was one of my favs. Haha, take it easy.
Some of the best sound tracks on a video game. Priceless
Streets of rage 3 is definitely my favorite gameplay wise, but two is still far abs away my favorite! I’m glad you covered the game gear and master system versions
Great video dude!
I like streets of rage 1 the soundtrack was the dopest.. I still play it to this day.
Absolutely loved this video man, so much nostalgia here. I was 5 as well when SOR1 came out, me and my brother grew up on the series. I have to admit, SOR2 was my favorite beat em up of all time for YEARS, but i think SOR4 has surpassed it for me personally now.
Welcome back! Wow, what a game series to return with.
This series holds up really well. I played through them a few months ago and had fun.
I remember playing streets of rage for the first time back in the early 90s and fell in love and Xmas 93 got my sega mega drive ....but when I played streets of rage 2 is my fav
Streets of Rage 2 was my first SEGA GENESIS games I’ve played and the best time I’ve ever had with a videogame. The music, the graphics and gameplay are truly breathtaking. Love the trilogy on GENESIS and I was amazed the first time I saw the first Streets of Rage 4. This game is a most own! Also it’s worth mentioning the Nintendo 3DS ports of the Street of Rage 1 and 2, also with 3D support. And the best way to enjoy the original trilogy is in a Xbox 360, XboxOne or Xbox Series vía retrocompatibility of the SEGA Vintage Collection of Streets of Rage that includes awesome ports of the 3 games all with the American, Japanese and Europe versions, the audio mix is the best I ever heard on a gaming console. Love your videos and thanks for sharing this one, love Streets of Rage!
Max was my favorite. I was so happy when I saw they had him in 4. He is more my style. Slow and powerful. Thunderous and hefty attacks.
Just the music alone wow I love Final fight but I think streets of rage have the edge childhood memories right there
2 will always be my favorite then 1 and 4 I grew up with nes then Sega Genesis and last and still till this day PlayStation.. memories man love it thank you
Nice vid!! Loved this game serie😄😁
I love the series, every version. I agree with Streets of Rage 4, it's amazing! I will admit, I always play with the retro songs on. But hearing some newer songs in the Survival mode is great!
SOR4 was me GOTY for 2020
All time fav SOR is part 2
I love them all... and the music is so so cool!
Keep up the fantastic work!!!
Remember the 1st SOR I got & read booklet on train home with the excitement of a 4yo .....I was 20 at that time lol
I absolutely love the first two games
I remember spending so many mexican pesos at the arcade back in the day with Captain Commando.
Streets of Rage 3 was my favorite. I liked the faster gameplay it had over the previous games.
This guy had every console going and all the latest games. Just what did his dad do for a living?!?
2 is one of the best beat em ups and best games ever made IMO, so 2 would be my favorite
Had streets of rage 1 and 2. One of my favorite games cause you and a buddy could play it together! Hey did you have Toxic Crusaders? I remember getting that game as a gift from my aunt. Did you have General Chaos? I remember that on my Sega also. So good.
I loved and played streets of rage back in the day, but man sor4 got me good. What a game
Subbed I love your content bro 🙌 👌
when i first played this game with my cousin i thought it was a Capcom game because of the way it played and felt. I was confused when i learned it wasn't. I have memories playing this game with my cousin.
Ok, thanks to you, I'm now more grateful for Sega Genesis Online and have started playing Streets of Rage 2 on there, as well as other classics!
I also have the special edition of streets of rage 4 from limited run but mine is the switch version. Honestly the fact that I have it on switch just feels so strange since it's on a Nintendo console.
The intro to SOR 1 plus the amazing soundtrack is why SOR 1 is my personal favorite in the series. It really sets the mood and feels like you are in a city taken over by gangs. it's a true classic for sure.
SOR 2 is a better game in every way but I feel the music isn't quite as good as the first. Overall it's very close though and is still one of the best beat'em ups ever made.
SOR 3 is the odd one...Again it improves the gameplay but the western release version was censored for some weird reason and the music went in a different direction. While the music itself is still good, it just felt a little out of place compared to SOR 1 and 2 which kept a similar style.
I really wanted SOR 4 to be a SOR Mania type game. One that felt like it could have been a Sega Saturn game that we never got. Overall it's still a good game but is my least favorite at the moment. Overtime I may change my opinion.
Another great video as always Tyler!
I’m younger so I never heard of/played Streets of Rage. I saw SoR4 for sale and took a shot seeing it had great reviews and it instantly became one of my favorite games of all time. I went from getting destroyed on normal difficulty to mastering the new Mania+ difficulty (and Mania mode prior to DLC) this game is amazing!
Next video :review every shenmue games and sonic
My sega favorite, this kid chameleon, and golden axe
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the lethal weapon line had me howwwwwwwwwwwwwwling, your the man.
Just bought SOR on Nintendo switch ran through a few times 🤘🏽
I want Sega Master System 3D Classics in the West, also a Master System Plug and Play…..A Sega Master System Mini….That is the dream.
You should try out Mayhem Brawler. It's similar to Streets Of Rage 4, but with multiple paths! It's a very fun game.
Fantastic series, i actually had an arcade cabinet made last spring in a Legacy style (Video on channel) using all 4 games art. One of a kind and the company that made it for me Recroom masters went out of business in September 2021 unfortunately.
Definitely one of my top nostalgia titles of all time, obviously seeing how i dropped over a grand on a custom cab for it lol. Well worth every penny! Check it out if you get a chance, and thanks for these videos, they are great!
I loved your content.
5:34 well that was Interesting Coincidence.....I had Streets of Rage 1 with my Genesis but on a 6-Pak Genesis Cartridge yeah it was spelled like that "6-Pak" but like I said before Never owned the Sega CD, Never owned the 32X, wish I had the Power Base Converter though.... but still when I moved to the Genesis I got to Play Sonic 1, Columns 1, Streets of Rage 1, Golden Axe 1, and Super Hang On, and Revenge of Shinobi... yes 6 Games in 1
You can play as Roo, Shiva and Ash in SOR3. Ash only in Japan obviously
Man I love streets of rage I am a huge fan of the whole series and God bless you God bless your whole family see you in the next video
I replayed the whole Streets of Rage series recently with a friend and with the exception of Streets of Rage 3 (at least the American version, which is worse than the Japanese Bare Knuckle 3) they all hold up really well. I always forget about the friendly fire, though. (At least you *had* friends in Streets of Rage, unlike Final Fight 1, which I think never should have been released in that state on SNES.)
finally new video thanks❤❤
You should try playing one of the Tak games on PS2 and GameCube! Tak and the Power of Juju, Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge! Have you ever played them?Amazing games that I’m trying to get the attention of THQNordic and Avalanche Software so they can remake them! You and your daughter will definitely enjoy them! They have amazing gameplay stories music voice acting and heart! Tak and Lok are voiced by two Disney icons Jason Marsden (Tak) and Patrick Warburton (Lok) I hope THQNordic announces the remake on September 17th with there direct!
Great video
Love the series but I have a question why didn’t you have Neo Geo? You had Jaguar of consoles lol!
I want street of rage and Final fight collab
That would be so awesome
I thought the same thing. Final Fight characters would fit into SOR perfectly. Streets borrowed those mechanics and simply mastered them after all. Seeing how well SOR4 did, Capcom maybe just needs a pitch.
'oh hey the cd version will have-'
a complete remaster cd quality soundtrack?
'limited remade sound effects that will sound jarring and not at all fitting.'
b-but...but..... Soundtrack.
Big colorful sprites? yay a fine awesome. Atmospheric Layered levels that had variety and depth? Alright alright fine whatever. Interesting weapon pickups, specials, and enemy types that have unique attack patterns? Yeeep.
The music though? That music was just.... Amazing.
They did Adam dirty in the series as a whole.
I've always pictured Batista from WWE when he wrestled at the time to play as Max, if there were a Streets of Rage movie based game he definitely looks the part of the character. Though funny there is a Streets of Rage movie in '93 with actress Mimi Lesseos, not the game based version lol.
What turned me down was the Street of Rage 3 and 4, the Kangaroo in part 3 made me pass especially that cyborg character and part 4 which looks too kiddie for me.
Nice review.
I love streets of rage 3 and 2
Streets 1-3 were great - 2 being the best - but 4 took it to another level. Instantly became the best in the series.
Any Nintendo fanboy who says Genesis can't do music...listen to SoR 1 & 2 🥰
I always get Sega Genesis Vibes when I Listen to Music from the 80's and 90's. I don't know about anybody else Maybe it's just me.
@@zpushy633sora8 I think it has something to do with fm synthesis which the genesis used. Many 90s and 80s songs used fm synthesis made by synthesizers such as the dx7
@@MrRudePolite I was doing my Research on that right after I Replied to this Comment. So I think you're Absolutely right.
bruh, your pops hooked you up with games and systems
Funny u say 2 was the best and most often remembered. I've literally never played it only 1 and 3. But I was an snes kid
I am still waiting for my SOF 4 from limited run..they never shipped it..
I never saw koji kondo name on the front screen
Blaze is my favorite character
So I now know i need to get streets of rage 4 been wondering about that
Streets of rage 2 was a masterpiece of a game, but part 3 not so much… it was a huge letdown for me. Great video Tyler.
