This video is nothing short of brilliant. You speak to the audience as if they're new to art but not idiots (which is much appreciated) and your knack for storytelling, weaving in and out the sociopolitical and religious tensions inspiring the works we see today shows a mastery of crafting an educational narrative. Videos like these are the reason why RUclips can be so great. Thank you for educating (and giving me a much-needed brush up!) on the high Renaissance.
Top shelf. A truly masterful presentation that balances biography, political context of the times, and analysis of the artworks. An exquisite exploration of one of the most remarkable cultural periods in the West.
Thank you so much for posting this video I love it, what beautiful art. Thank you for your narration. Be safe, healthy and happy 😊 Mercy, peace and grace to you 🙏 God bless you 🙏 Friday, February 23, 2024
This is the best video I've watched on the artist's of the Renaissance. It's so informative, intersecting and has explained things I didn't know . Could you not keep going through the centuries to the present day? 😀
@@gavinreid2741Yes, but you refer to the vandalism committed by " Il Braghetonne" to the Last Judgment way back in 1565. I am referring to the snowflakes of today.
@@gavinreid2741it has changed a lot, but we have a big group of very ignorant philistine citizens who have never seen renaissance paintings and live in a bubble of superstitious religious fundamentalism. I guess we are too big to care to educate and maintain a civil environment for all.
8.38,There is a super dark figure on the left of this poor gal, it even has an ET almond eye. The figure is cut in half, it is all slim waist, large shoulder, with the arm in the tree. That is super, horribly dark. I can't unsee it. If you cover the left eye of the girl, her left is looking at you, it is the right eye that is looking away. it is also in a painting recently thought to be by him, of himself, that I watched a doco about. 13.53, the woman's hand is enormous and somewhat masculine, not suiting her at all. The Isleworth Mona is utterly gorgeous. Why does Leonardo's lifelong companion and also a painter, never get spoken about.
In another video, it points out that the London Virgin of the rocks, has a penis formation of the rocks. Supposedly thats why the church rejected it, and also because he didnt add halos.

I like the finished "Mona Lisa" with the columns in the background so much more than the known work. Interesting. Thanks!
I can hear the smile when referring to Michelangelo’s nature.

What a sad state of affairs when we must caution about nudity in discussions on Renaissance art! How utterly politically correct and miserable.
The church at the time disapproved of nudity. Some of Michelangelos paintings were censored.

This is labeled "Season 1 Episode 1" and the first thing we hear is "Previously, we looked at..." I feel like I missed something?
