That rolled off neck pickup tone towards the end is glorious.
I’ve been playing guitar for 60 years, so I know a talented guitarist when I hear one, and l just heard one, great job buddy !
Watched this review again, and man, your reviews are so much fun! You can totally tell when you’re just taken aback by how good a guitar is. It’s great to watch, cheers mate!!! 🍻
Beautiful guitar. Those Eastman guitars are like works of art ☺
Great video Lucas, I bought a T59v as a result. I have the usual assortment of LPs, Strats, a Telecaster and a couple of PRS's, but the T59v is easily the most versatile and a pleasure to play. As you've shown it can cope with anything from AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Cream right the way through to jazz. I too love the neck pickup. And for anyone considering an ES-335... check this out first, essentially you're getting most of the extras that would take a 335 to a 355 (inlays and ebony fingerboard) thrown in. The SD Antiquity pickups are sublime. It makes me smile every time I pick it up.
What a guitar, sounds fantastic! Great playing too!
Wonderful demo. I love that you didn’t do the whole jazz thing that most reviewers tend to do. The way you demonstrated this guitar is exactly how plan on playing it....after I learn to play as well as you. Thanks for the Pink Floyd intro....great review. 🤘
I have had mine one week and can confirm……sooo good to play and well built
Thanks for reviewing anything from Eastman. They have just released a couple of new models that are intriguing. Excellent playing as always!
The consistently wow me with their stuff. I'm hoping they'll want to send me one of the new "junior" style axes to demo!
that is a beauty nice work Lucas!
That is the absolute best guitar sound….amazing playing and amazing sound. I want one of these Eastmans so bad! Awesome video!
Damn that sounds good. Looks great too. Thanks Lucas.
Thanks for reviewing Eastman. I don't have one yet, planning on getting one soon, but they don't get nearly enough attention. I first picked one up, a used 380 at GC about a year ago and I was totally just blown away by the crisp, icicle clean tone and the fabulous build quality. PRS took a while to really gain momentum, I imagine the same with Eastman. You just cannot deny such find build quality and tone for too long.
Great demo Lucas, couldn't agree more.
I own a Eastman T386 SB for two weeks now. Great sounding and looking guitar. It just wants to be played with ;).
Love the vids lucas keep it up
Amazing review! Highly motivated to go for this Eastman!
Great video and great guitar ! 👍
Wow! The best of the best! Killer tones! They build them with care like a fine concert violin! Lucas you sound awesome playing this. It suits you well!
SJ SMITH - Don’t forget they started making concert stringed instruments !!!! They went into mandolins, flattops, hollow bodies and finally solid bodies !!
Great video - that guitar sounds absolutely immense!
Thanks, Lucas!
I watch all your videos Lucas, but I don't remember seeing you enjoy a guitar this much! The sound is amazing!
I can definitely count on one hand the number of guitars that make me smile like that :)
@@LucasFowler I got one and wow.
Your review led me to go and buy one of these...beautiful guitar. Had to import from UK to Australia as none available here, all sold out. Great review, great playing, keep up the great work 👍
Great review! You are an awesome player, touch, phrasing is spot on
killer review and guitar, sounds magic
Well, that's the rainy day fund gone! Great review - thank you for doing it 👍
Thank you for the video mate - your enthusiasm really cheered me up today - love you from England 🤘
Glad you enjoyed it!
Got one last week. My initial thoughts:
1. The neck is wider than any neck on any of the 19 other guitars I've owned in my lifetime, but I'm used to it now.
2. It's heavier than I expected. It weighs roughly the same as my G&L ASAT Classic S.
3. It's quite loud acoustically.
4. I'm playing it through a Line 6 HX Stomp into a Blackstar HT-5R and it sounds amazing.
Two years ago, I went to Guitar Center to check out an ES-335. I tried every one they had in the store - about 5 - and none of them would stay in tune worth a damn and I didn't like the finishes, so I went home alone. I wound up buying an ES-339 from Chicago Music Exchange. Very nice guitar, with only two flaws. First, it was noticeably neck heavy. Second, the horns were such that access to the upper frets above high C was difficult. For these reasons, I sold the 339. The T59/V is roughly the same price as a 339 and half the price of the "cheapest" 335. If you're interested in a 335-style guitar, the Eastman is a fantastic deal.
Love your playing brother! That Eastman is outrageous, got me thinking that's my next 6er.
Lucas- great playing and a wonderful review of this guitar. I have one and it’s been my, “desert island” guitar for the past few years. My only complaint is the weigh- I’m an old dude and I’ve played with the idea of selling it to get a MX185.
Anytime I get these thoughts, I come back and watch your video again. Thank you for the reminder of how killer this guitar is. And yes, the cleaner the better for me. This guitar shines in the middle position with little or no grit. Thank you again!!
Sounds great 👍
Subscribed. Love your channel, what a discover!
Thank you!
Yes, I’m commenting again, man oh man I can’t get over how good this demo is! Your playing is awesome and it highlights just how amazing this guitar is. This guitar has every sound I’m looking for. It twangs, it rocks, far as I’m concerned this guitar sounds like it’ll cover everything from tele chicken pickin, stratty blues, Gretsch dynasonic twang ON TOP of all of the sounds you EXPECT! I need this guitar in my life! I’m reaching out to dealers for pricing info as we speak! Thank you for this wonderful review Lucas
Amazing !
Ugh. Definitely a dream guitar for me!
what a cool guitar ...rings like a bell ...sweet
No CNC in there shop, all hand done. awesome sounding guitar. thanks for showing it.
Lucus! You got skillz…
The guitar sound fantastic too. I just might buy one.
Eastman guitars💕are just amazing
These guitars are excellent. I’ve had mine for a month and only like it more each day.
You can hear it ring and siiing! Always a sign of top craftsmanship.
I have just purchased one and …omg how well it sounds and looks ….
@@davepocock3055 Awesome man 👍 How do you rate it next to a Gibson : almost as good? On par? Better?
Luey Sixty-six , I have a 16 year old gibbo and a year old one...... the Eastman is head and shoulders above them in build and also it’s “ mojo”
I’m saving for a Eastman lp
i agree these Eastmans are really good guitars .I played one at Guitar Center and couldnt put it down.those Antiquity pups sing just great sustain..i have a 335 made by Hohner ..its a nice guutar for not costing 3k..i fell in love with the semi hollow thing when i bought the Hohner ..and when i pkayed THIS EASTMAN. it just took it to another level. I cant justify 3k for a Gibson when my Hohner sounds so good...BUT i found this for 1100. And im wanting to move some fear for it..great demo man
Gotta have one!!! Amazing.
They are magical instruments in my opinion :)
Hey Lucas,
just wanted to say that I really enjoy your reviews and I am happy that you are pointing at everything, even the bad things. Ignore those haters ^^ or at least just see them as traffic gainer. You are doing a great job :) not just as a reviewer but also as a player.
Cheers,
Lukas
Thanks!
Hey Lucas,
thanks for the awesome demo.
I love my Eastman SB59 and this guitar will stay with me till the end. I figure out which Eastman I should get next and I probably buy this one for my collection.
I just wonder how it handles feedback with higher gain. I play post rock with a lot of effects and sometimes a lot of gain so I hope it’s not to bad.
Just purchased this guitar. It’s extremely well built.
These are the style of guitars that are respectfully called “Burst Killers”. I would rather have a 335-style guitar over an LP or SG style guitar anyday. So easy to play. Thanks Lucas for the demo.
Whoa! That was amazing! I’ve always been a fan of 335’s, and this sounds like it can stand with a Gibson. Great review! Great playing, too!
It’s way way way way nicer than any Gibson I’ve ever tried. It’s Gibson custom shop level at a minimum and I’d say better.
@@dadmadforgot4050 yes i agree i had a gibson es 335 and I like my t486 more. Awesome quality
Thanks for putting this up man! About a year ago, after about 15 years of thinking I was a strat dude, playing them since high school, I got the semi-hollow bug. Did a lot of online research and ended up buying an Eastman t184mx more or less on reputation and reviews. I know exactly the feeling you’re talking about when you picked it up. I’ve a/b’d my Eastman against gibsons, d’angelicas, Ibanez… there’s no contest every time. They’re legit making absolute monster guitars for less than half the price of name brands.
For some reason I’m kind of wanting to also own the 186 (the full “335” size version of my guitar). Have you played any of the t186/185/184 by chance? Trying to get a gauge on how meaningful that size change alone would be.
Also considering just getting the t59v and then I’ll have a laminate and a solid carved both. Your video definitely moves me in that direction. That thing sounds PRISTINE man.
Thanks dude!
That sounded great nothing and I mean nothing beats a great semi hollow
Awesome video Lucas, I also bought the T59V production 3/28/22 inside the case was a Lollar pickup hang tag. So i am wondering if it's loaded with Lollar now? Beautiful great playing guitar!!!
Thanks for the video man! I'm thinking about getting one of these, a gibson 335, or a prs ce24 semi hollow as i played one today and it was so versatile. I think im kicking the 335 off the list as Eastman is making better sounding and feeling instrument's now. Let me know if you have any advice or recommendations!
Awesome guitar, I bought a t486 and I fucking love it
The scary way you stare at the camera really makes me laugh. Wonderful playing, wonderful guitar, thanks so much.
This is one of the best guitars I’ve ever heard.
Damn that middle position clean is GODLY
Right?
And just like that: I bought another Eastman. Best guitars on the market for the money right now. I own the torrified top HD28 acoustic and bought the SB59V LP mainly after watching your review of it. I had never played one (during covid and local dealer was sold out). So I ordered it, waited six months: and I was not disappointed. I had a LP Trad that had been modified to be more like a R9 with SD antiquity PUs, authentic wiring harness etc and while it was a great guitar - my Eastman blows it away. Not to mention I can play the hell out of it, walk away for a week then pick it up and its still in tune lol. Something no Gibson has ever claimed throughout history. Every guitar should have a French polish finish imo, let’s it breathe and so much more responsive feeling. When will Eastman start making Fenders so I can buy one of those too? 😂
Thanks for this. Very helpful. FWIW - it would also be helpful to hear the guitar 100% dry. No reverb and no delay. I tend to listen for clean sweet and fat treble tones on the high e and the b strings. I really need that.
Great playing as per usual Lucas. Every time I see an Eastman being reviewed I can't help but think that you're kind of getting custom shop levels of instrument, and so it blows Gibson out of the water. I chatted with one retailer here in the UK and he said there's no CNC at all, simply handmade, which is amazing at this price point. If I had the money I'd go for an Eastman time and time again.
I can't speak highly enough of Eastman's guitars. They are fantastic!
Great demonstration of what fantastic instruments Eastman is making! Pretty much every Eastman I've seen or heard online appears to be outstanding value for your money. I have a set of SD Antiquities in my Explorer and those pickups just SING! They give my Tim Shaw's in my 335 a total run for their money. I've been watching your videos for a while and finally sub'd (ya know, because you're just a "low-life' RUclipsr, or so I've heard ;-) ) God Bless and rock on!
Thanks for subscribing to a failure who couldn't make it in the entertainment business like me :P
Hey Lucas - Great playing & this vid really helped a lot ! Can you tell me please what amp and/if any pedals ? THX!
Got a local shop that carries Eastman and tried their SB59 model. Fit and finish is fantastic $1995 with a case.
And I love the antique looking cases too!
Lucas, not fair. This makes me want to trade my T486 for the T59/V as I love the varnish on my two other Eastman guitars.
That is some heavenly tone.
I thought so too!
There is a certain quality of the high end that is hard to describe, I wonder if that's from the unwaxed pickups. Either way, it's nice to see quality like this for that price. Not cheap, but not absurd either.
Lucas - you mention CTS pots - is the harness '50's style paper in oil ? THX! Love your playing.
Hey Lucas, so when are you shipping that to me? HEHEHE... Man that sounds great! It looks great too!!
Dude, the tone you got here is incredible
Courtesy of the Line 6 Helix :)
Lucas just found your channel and subscribed. What amp did you use? Sounds killer
I want one 😎
Great playing! Amazing sustain. Im selling my moded Epiphone to get this baby.
Just watched both your great vids.
T59v and the Romeo. Looking to get one but totally can’t decide between those two. What’s your take ?
Wow! Would love to learn what amp and pedals you were using in combination with This awesome guitar??
Nitro finish ,split parralograms , ebony bound neck ,Seymour Duncan pickups ,what’s not to like , I really want one
What is that finish? Red or classic? Looks awesome - and sounds even more awesome!
That bridge under dirt is more sort of Tele than 335 ... Wow. Gorgeous tones!
And when Gain cranked up your in Greeny and Beast domains easily. Im getting kinda jealous. And have no complaining owning a T486B ...
Nice
Boy, you making Eastman look tasty... 🤤 (I busted out me Gibson, so as I can toan-jam along😆👍)
Hey is the riff you're playing at 10:24 a Big Wreck riff? sounds like the song friends off of the ghosts album. Killer tune.
It's actually "Please Come In" by Black Stone Cherry :)
9:590 Straight up, I'm knicking that kickarse riff! 🤟😆🎸...
That's "Beating Around The Bush" by AC/DC :)
Oh. Hahaha. Well, there you go.
Nice review man. I have major GAS for an Eastman Semi, and I think I've found my baby.
Thank you for this guitar demo. I’m a lowlife viewer who will never make it and I love the guitar.
Lowlife guitar players unite!
Killer demo. I was looking at D'angelico then remembered my Eastman SB59 is the best guitar I've ever played. Pulled up this demo and I'm like OH 😳. I pulled the trigger on one of these a half hour later. Thanks man. I'd also love to know what amp you're playing those mad tasty licks through if you'd be so kind. 🙌
Did you figure out what amp and pedals have been used ?
Hi, what’s your rig with this? Sounds great !
Eastman T486 review next?
Hey Lucas ! Ive really been wanting a 335 and fell in love with a 78 Greco sa700wa but it sold before I could get it. In your opinion would it be better to save up for another greco and have it shipped from Japan or get an Eastman t386? The Eastman is right under 1k and the Grecos range well over that. I know you're a Greco guy so I trust your opinion!
Eastman
Clean is the best sound there is.
Is it just me or there's a permanent buzz in the background audio ? i was wondering where it was coming from, stopped the video and the buzz stopped immediatly. Did you leave your volume pot opened ? other than that, of course, fantastic guitar, great woody tone and responsiveness, it's worth what it 's worth
PS : being a strat guy since ever, i recently acquired an MIJ Edwards e-sa 138/aka 148/ then aka 180 today, carved top, maple body back and sides, mahogany neck and also "black night" ebony fretboard, equiped with seymour duncan sh4/seth lover in bridge, and it's a killer guitar, super loud acoustically, i don't think i'll ever sell it (i said that before already), neck is quite beefy but you get used to it, and the price is less than 1K, all included (shipping+import taxes to France), avis à la population
Lucas, have you tried any peerless guitar's, I have a Peerless Songbird (Hollow body) & a Peerless semi hollow body & both are exceptional guitars in my opinion. All the best from Scotland 🎸🎶
I haven't, but I'll check them out!
Hey Lucas , Wasup? I totally feel how you describe this guitar. I have played a couple like that.
First , let me say... I haven't been at your channel long , but I have been impressed by how well you seem to have your life in order. A beautiful wife that loves you and you... Doing what you love....
That being said.... So, I am watching your vids and there was another guitar by the same manufacturer , and I am digging it... Then you say it's Chinese and 2k is the price tag... Woah.... LOL!
Then I have to wonder , " Does Lucas reside in Colorado? Maybe he's been frequenting a dispensery ? "
Is it really 2k sweet coming from China?
Hahaha I thought that too when they first contacted me. In reality though, they are a company that has been making violins and the like for many years and they have recently started doing electric guitars. They don't make instruments for anyone else and it is almost all done by hand. They really ARE custom shop quality. If you bought a Gibson that was this nice you would pay $6000-$8000 easy.
I'm sure I would have to try this guitar on my own but i think i may need to throw some Antiquity pickups in my SG because that's a tone i been wanting for a while!
They do sound fantastic!
@@LucasFowler I love how clear they sound!
Thanks for your review of the T59. Great sound. I have the SB59/V and absolutely love it! I'd put it up against an LP any day. My question/counsel to you: I'm looking for a semi-hollow electric: 3 Eastmans I'm looking at: T59; T486; T 484. Have you had a chance to play the 486. The 484 is the little brother to the 486. Thanks for you help.
I haven't tried the T486 or the T484 personally, but everything I have tried from Eastman is extremely well designed and built. I would say it's more about which one you like the look and feel of more and what kind of electronics you like. The T59 has Seymour Duncan Antiquities which sound different Jazz/59 combo. And of course the T484 has a smaller body which would probably be more comfortable for people with a smaller frame or if you are more of a solid body guitar player. Bottom line, they're all good.
@@LucasFowler thanks for your reply. I'm waiting to get my hands on each of these to play and hear; that's where is really happens.
@@billdornbush5643 just seen your comments. I am trying to decide between the T486 and the T59v also. I like the look of both so it’s more about the sound. Looking for something versatile from jazz to rock. Any advice from your experience? I haven’t played either yet but I’m excited about the future purchase. Thanks.
lucas , you gotta be a endorser of eastman guitar
I'm just flattered they like my videos enough to send me things to demo :)
That thing sounds great and looks good too. I was checking their website for neck profile. “Even C” is how it’s described. I hate that. Just give me the depth at 1st fret Eastman! What’s your guess Lucas on depth? Slim, medium, or chunky?
I would say its kind of a slim c. Very comfortable to play, even for me. I usually prefer the baseball bats :P
Pretty darn expensive. I’m a modder. So for me a much less expensive guitar with everything upgraded for less than a 1/3rd the price makes sense for me. But this definitely sounds/seems like a nice instrument. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah Eastman guitars are not "affordable" guitars in the standard sense. I would say they are affordable if you are after a custom shop, hand built style guitar though. But you can most definitely get a great guitar for far less money if you are willing to spend some time upgrading and tweaking it :)
I loooooove to tinker and modify guitars!
Too bad you can't find this guitar to purchase anywhere right now... :(
I have the T486B-BK it’s got the Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P-90 pups. It stands up to a Gibs@n 335 custom shop at a quarter of the price!! These are handmade by super skilled luthiers I cannot find anything to criticise. The best bit? It cost me just over £1300 !!!! You cannot touch it for value or quality!!!
Haha is this in response to the previous epiphone video??
Sounds great! Although I feel the pickups are too bright and clear for a jazz style guitar.
If so the price point is way off, not really a fair fight. lol
Haha not a response to the Epiphone, just working my way through my backlog of gear to demo. Of course this is definitely better than the Epiphone and it should be since it costs like 3 times as much!
@@LucasFowler yes no fair comparison there! Although that epiphone was probably an anomaly because I've played some real decent ones.
@@simpleone1989 It could very well be a random fluke. I have nothing negative to say about Epiphone as a whole. I own 2 of them now!
Roll the tone off dummy.
what amp are you using here ...thanks...sounds great
That's my Line 6 Helix directly into my recording interface, using a model of a Hiwatt :)
What amp were you using for the clean and overdriven tones?
These tones were all using my Line 6 Helix, the clean, light breakup and classic rock sounds were done using a model of a Hiwatt. The "lead" tone was done using a model of a Marshall Plexi with a Tubescreamer and some tape delay.
What is the neck profile like on this guitar?. Closer to a slim taper or more rounded 50's style?. I think Eastman calls it the "even C", but doesn't give any measurements.
I would say it's a little closer to a slim taper, but it doesn't feel flat like those sometimes do. It definitely feels rounded.
