- You will need a mesh laundry bag, zip ties and a pool noodle. Takes less than 30 minutes to construct and should work well to keep fish alive for much longer than if on a regular stringer.
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
Agreed!
I fish weekly Thursday night tourneys from my kayak against bass boats. This is exactly what i need! Thanknyou!!!
Good luck!
That is an excellent idea. I used PVC pipe being sealed it on the top circle. I later added a cage to keep the netting from collapsing on the fish.
Cool
Using this as a bait well in a couple weeks down in Florida. Great idea!
kevin gunkel so. How'd it work out?
Bet the gars and snapping turtles shredded it.
I'm a kayak fisher and this is great idea for me.. nice job
Easy button. the white one cost me 3 bucks. pool noodle, zip ties package and the laundry bag each $1.00 at the dollar store. Great idea, glad someone else had the same idea so I could prove my boyfriend that I wasn't crazy. Thanks for the vid. good ideas.
This boyfriend likes a little crazy.. that's the fun part!
Pretty neat idea. You are always thinking.
pretty nifty "noodlin' " equipment! : )
Brilliant, looks like it holds more fish than the manufactured ones baskets.
I made mine out of pvc piping and a draw strong laundry bag, but you will need about a 2-3 lb weight zip ties to the center bottom to keep the live well from flipping over
Some things to keep in mind for this is that you need some form of structure so the fish can move around and stay upright, when you are moving, these both will float up to the surface and entangle and trap the fish, killing it. Make sure if you use the bag, to add some wire hanger strucure to make it rigid as well as some form of heavy weight on the bottom to keep it fully submerged in the water. Another thing to keep in mind is that the mesh bags and cloth will become EXTREMELY SMELLY. Which is why i opted for a complete metal livwell.
This is smart! Thanks for the idea
Glad you like it!
Great idea Ben! Love it!
God this is the smartest thing I have ever flipping seen man I needed this idea so bad
Onion sacks work too. I made one early this summer. Handy in the yak.
Sweet!!! I will be using this method for my kayak
Right on!
the crappie wont tear it up. me and my boyfriend are in a debate over this. PS you can also get drawstring bags at dollar tree and pool noodles too. you could make 3 of them for under $10. I think I may run to the dollar tree tonight and get a couple of both and try this. THANK YOU!!
This works!
thanks...i got mine ready to go..
Brilliant. Cheap, and it works.
Very cool idea bro
A good idea, thanks for sharing.
Love it! Great idea! Thanks!
You are so welcome!
These work fine as long as they remain stationary with no wind and current on them. Making them DIY is better than buying them from Promar. Promar has had them for years. Don't try to use these from a float tube or kayak! Goes without saying, but thought I'd say it anyway. Great video. Thanks 👍
The better design is the laundry bag with the drawstring & just the noodle strapped to the outside
Absolutely fantastic!
it works OK..
Everytime I've tried these nets they break so easily. What you need to use instead is a divers XL goody bag!
One of the private lakes I fish is overpopulated with crappie and bass so we are catching as many as possible and transporting them to another lake that needs restocking.
GOOD THINKING I LIKE IT
They say those Crappie will take over a pond. We had a few in our pond but they seem to have disappeared. Bass still habitat it but crappie have vanished.
Kowpoke Kev
Crappie are certainly capable of out-producing other fish and they will directly compete with bass for available forage once they grow big enough. Small crappie make really good bait for big fish ;) but are protected in public (Texas) lakes and rivers from being used as bait.
oh......
William B Tedrick, is it the same rules for bluegill? As it is for using crappie as bait?
Love the 2nd one 👍🥃🇺🇸
Thanks
Good idea
;)
Brilliant! Thank you Sir
You are welcome!
Let's see it in use
Has anyone entered a boat bass tournament using this idea to weigh your fish? This question is specifically for kayak anglers.
VERY VERY NICE !!!
you better copyright this or Berkley will be selling these for 30 bucks next season.
You were close. It was Clam about 3 years later.
Great idea 💡 I wonder if it'll work for holding catfish from the side of a kayak
It should
Tried floating live wells, tried stringers, don’t like either. I switched to a cooler with battery powered aerator for my kayak. Wish I wouldn’t have wasted my time trying all the other in-the-water options.
Anything outside the yak is a drag..
How do you keep the turtle off your catch? They have ruined my steel fish baskets on two occasions.
well I've never had that happen..
Good for diving for seafood
Yes, thanks
Can you glue a Plano box to the foam
I suspect so.. good suggestion but I haven't tried that!
could u use wire mesh for the catfish?
I suspect so.. sure for a rigid cage-type of basket..
@@FishTales-Reel-Life-Adventure was thinking 2 kayak catamaran with the wire mesh basket in the middle so both people can throw fish in the basket lol. so much u can do. i do a ton of catfishing
very cool
Nice
thanks
Will this work well for tournament fishing and culling bass?
With the full flow through of the bag it is a good option.
maybe play for tennessee ernie ford, that be a hoot
Could you pull it behind a kayak?
Gunsight416 you can but it acts more like a anchor doing that..
When the boat is moving do I need to bring the live well into the boat or do I just let it drag behind the boar?
bring the basket in the boat if you are moving from place to place. But it really depends on how fast you are going to go.
The black stand-up one did not work as well as the bag. I've used the white one many times and the close-able top makes a big difference..
How many pounds of largemouth do you think the white bag could hold and stay afloat
Rob Dyer Doesn't seem to matter because the sides close in on the fish and they feel protected so they don't swim around much. I've had a dozen crappie in the white one and it floats just like it is empty.
I literally just made one and ran down to the pond and caught a bass and threw it in there. The net doesn't sink but once the fish is it they calm down big time. I love this idea thanks a ton
When u use those to keep them alive, how to u kill them to eat them?
If I wanted to use this in salt water off of a pier, how would I lower and raise it? Is there a way to rig it?
Rachel Esler you could tie off to the handles or 3 or 4 point tie it to a rope and drop it off the side of the pier. It will drain out as you lift it.
Problem is though the barracuda would shred it and steal all your bait.
great idea. do you think this will work on the back of the boat going 20-30mph?
no.. it will become a drag net just before it rips apart. ;)
cool idea 👍👍👍
I have a problem when putting something like that in the water where I fish I have to deal with snapping turtles they tear holes in wire baskets
nope this is not snapper proof.. but what is ?
true
Great diy projects. I made the white one. wasn't so good for trout keeping. I think the mesh interfered with oxygenation or stressed them out too much. Dead in 30 mins.
Thanks!
I tried this over the weekend fished my first bass tournament in my kayak and was very disappointed waste of time cause it didn't even keep the fish alive an hour maybe 20 min and paddling was a pain felt like I had a parachute behind me the whole time couldn't get anywhere pulling it behind me
just mix them and bangg.
Great idea. Thank you for the video, I'm going to give it a try. I subscribed, please consider as well. Thank you for livewell idea. Have a great day. -Scott
so this is for catch fish?
no.. it is to keep the fish you catch alive until you can clean them.
That sucks
