*Fun fact. There is a backstory about Prince. He made a movie called Purple Rain. Came out in 1984 when I was about 11 years old. The scenes you see are from that movie. Also, Michael Jackson and Prince were competitive during that time. Both are/were friends with Eddie Murphy the comedian and actor. Excellent artist! He exemplifies the meaning of art with his style and work. He WILL be missed. Another video shows more of the bands personality called Raspberry Beret. His music is in a lot of my memories growing up. R.I.P. The Artist Formerly Known as Prince ( which is what he ACTUALLY changed his name to before he died The Artist Formerly Known as Prince was his last stage name) -oh he also changed his name to an actual symbol. Eminem mentioned it in his song called Slim Shady.
Ouuu thats very very interesting! I am a huge Michael Jackson fan aswell. Thank you for sharing the knowledge, i appreciate it and it helps me out alot
@MDreeezy you betcha. I raised 6 kids and have 4 Grandchildren. Every one of them know their music from Flight of the Bumble Bee (opera) and the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra all the way to current music. * Bonus info: there's a new Artist called Jam Wayne he made a song called Hold my Beer (and others) with my boy Adam Calhoun. Now there's a rabbit hole for ya. I love music. I always told my kids there isn't a such thing as an old song. Play it and it lives forever. Every song tells a story. Correction it's the song Without Me from Eminem that mentions Prince.
He only changed his name for a symbol, not other thing. Why? He woke up and decide "Hey, I'm gonna change my name for some unpronounceable symbol"... Nope! He realised how the record companies, as Warner, own the masters of the music he made, even his own name. "Prince is the name that my mother gave me at birth. Warner Bros. took the name, trademarked it, and used it as the main marketing tool to promote all of the music that I wrote." He renounce to use his name so he can release new songs and albums for a few years and he wrote "slave" on his cheek, so he made public this conflict and to show how it feels to be "the dog", "a property" of a record label. "People think I'm a crazy fool for writing 'slave' on my face, but if I can't do what I want to do, what am I?” He won the fight, he recovered his name, the ownership of his albums and since then many other artist have gone to Court against their Labels for that reason. So he gave a lesson for all present and future artists about the rights and property of an artist work. He celebrated his "freedom" with the release of a 3CD album (6 LP) titled EMANCIPATION. And now the explanation needed: journalist don't have idea about how to pronounce the symbol and can't say the name given when he was born, they started to say "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" or TAFKAP. Sorry if something is messed up, I didn't re-read what I wrote and I'm not native speaker. Peace! EXTRA: this song has no bass line.
Prince took a lot of inspiration from Jimi Hendrix & his fashion. Prince's dancing & performing took inspiration from James Brown & that era. Prince also took inspiration from Little Richard's style. Musically Sly and the Family Stone were a big influence on him. He also loved Joni Mitchell very much. As for all the artists Prince inspired, it's endless, really, even down to heavy metal & grunge musicians, of course many R&B & Hip Hop artists. Artists across all genres have spoken about how impt Prince was to them, including those who were famous before him, like Eric Clapton! Eric was deep into substance abuse & went to see the movie Purple Rain while on tour. He was blown away, said it gave him hope for the future of music & his music specifically. He went to his hotel room & immediately wrote a song. Paul McCartney from the Beatles was asked sometime in the 80s/90s who had the best concert at the time, & he said Prince's show was the one he was blown away by and interested in. It goes on and on.
It was the greatest little big haired band in all the land… This man grabbed me by my soul and wouldn’t let go. His music literally saved my life… And now that he’s gone, I can barely listen to him anymore without falling into a hole of pain and heartbreak I haven’t felt since I was 15. I felt like a widow for two years after he died… That’s why I’m now obsessed with Metallica😂 😂
So glad you did this one. It was the song that made Prince a global household name. He had hits before this one, but When Doves Cry took him to a whole other level. You may have noticed that there is no bass in this song. He took it out and said something like, “Ain’t nobody gonna believe I did that” to his engineer when he told her to remove it. I recommend checking out some live performances. Those are to a whole other level. Some suggestions are any live version of “Purple Rain” (my favorite is from the Syracuse show of the Purple Rain tour or the 1985 American Music Awards), anything from “Nothing Compares 2 U” or “Thieves in the Temple/lt” from the Glam Slam show, “If I Was Your Girlfriend” from the Sign O the Times movie, “Shhh” from Detroit show of Musicology tour, “Motherless Child”, “America,” “Play that Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage,” “Piano Medley” (from Lovesexy tour), and “Love Bizarre” (from the Parade tour).
Great selection, "Shhh" from 2011 Paris television is also killer and Montreux 2009 second show. It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night on the Sign O the Times movie is so much fun.
@@lavenderbee3611 All great suggestions as well. I love all the versions of Shhh. I might be partial to the Musicology version because I saw him on that tour twice. Unfortunately, most of the Montreux performances were taken down from RUclips recently. Hopefully, they’ll find their way back soon. Those shows are brilliant.
Prince def had Daddy issues. I feel bad now judging him when he spoke about "the industry." In the 80-90s we had no concept of the corruption that is Hollywood. We all just assumed he was crazy which is what the weirdos in Hollywood wanted us to believe. He wasn't made for this world and I understand why he's gone now. It's disgusting what they did to him for telling the truth.
There is so much to check out with Prince! I would suggest checking out his Superbowl performance that was absolutely great. Another totally different vibe from him would be Diamonds and Pearls.
Great reaction! The song Purple Rain was dedicated to his father in the Purple Rain video and movie, but he's speaking to a woman/lover in the song. In When Doves Cry he's observing that he might be like his Dad and his girlfriend might be behaving like his mother. This is the edited version of the song. Much better longer version. You should definitely check out Let's Go Crazy next. It's very rock/funk. Here's the link to Let's Go Crazy ruclips.net/video/aXJhDltzYVQ/видео.htmlsi=fZ-xQHgE9r5e7gBx Prince also had all the ladies and had a huge impact on music, the music industry, and pop culture.
it has been said that Prince is the only guy who could walk into a party in a frilly blouse and high heel boots and take your girlfriend home with him or your boyfriend for that matter
I heard that Vanity arrived at the American Music Awards as Rick James' date but then went home with Prince. This might be a urban legend, but Rick hated Prince with ever fiber of his being.
You should listen to Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie Murphy tell his story on the Dave Chappell Show about meeting Prince. It’s a skit with Dave acting it out as Prince and it’s hilarious. Prince confirmed it was true.
The song is from the movie Purple Rain and so is the other Prince song you reacted to (Purple Rain)a you should check out the extended music video version it is totally worth checking out. It’s has a great keyboard solo and iconic Prince screams.
Love prince,so talented, played guitar, drums & piano.brilliant song writer, even wrote nasty girls that was in beverley hills cop & sinead oconners smash hit. He produced alot of his material.sadly missed.
Great reaction to an incredibly talented artist!! Love it!! Musicology is one of my favorite videos from Prince! Also the Super Bowl performance where they talk about it.
Great reaction, great background setup. You provided some really insightful analysis here. I suggest Red Corvette by Prince, a great song released prior to Purple Rain.
Nothing to do with Prince the film clip reminded me of two songs & two bands. 1) Wild one by Thin Lizzy & 2) Original Sin by Inxs. one day after awhile when you get a chance react to them. Keep going... Signed Adam from his Mancave in Australia

Most badass dude to wear high heels a lot people don't realize he was a badass guitarist and wrote so many number one hits for other artists
Prince was a musical Genius, he played Funk, pop, jazz, R&B, etc. Prince never lip Synced like many did and do today. Modern Day Mozart

RIP Appelonia and Prince 😢
You have to hear the album version. The song continues with a sic instrumental section.
Also the live 1985 version..it’s🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@mztweety1374 Most definitely
Had the vinyl and did the first unpublished GRWM video to this song 🙈
This song is timeless bro. It was released in 1984, but it sounds like it could very well be from today.
This is a masterpiece from a musical Genius ! 🤩🎶🎤🎹🎸and it doesn't even have a bass track !! 🤯🤯
I’m 56 and I saw him in concert twice
Purple Rain ☔️ tour!
All these years later still the BEST show I ever went to !🔥✌🏼

My sister lives in the twin cities and met him several times during the early years 1980s 1990s. Said he was a great person and an amazing talent.
Mr. Dreezy you must check out 1999 by Prince and the revolution. Way ahead of its time❤
This concert was Epic. It was restricted to 18 years and up. I begged my Dad for tickets. We dressed to nines and got in. Amazing show❤
I can't even conceive of a generation of young people who haven't heard Prince before. What are you, savages?

Prince played all the instruments in this song, and wrote and produced it
There is so much to check out with Prince! I would suggest checking out his Superbowl performance that was absolutely great. Another totally different vibe from him would be Diamonds and Pearls.
Purple Rain was second album I ever had and I still have baby💜
He was a TRUE PERFORMER 🤩🎵🔥✌🏼
Prince's fashion style, especially in this music video, is reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix.
More so from Sly & The Family Stone. Watch them live
Prince Dreamer - Best Video (is the title). Prince hitting it hard with a funky rock tune!

'Let's Go Crazy' is a really fun, upbeat, rocking song. Also, taken from scenes from the movie Purple Rain, lol. You'll love it.
You really should check out the movie 🍿 ✌🏼🔥
Check out Raspberry Beret. Another great Prince song.
I went to the movies in 1986. Love it since then
Love prince!!!
You should listen to Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie Murphy tell his story on the Dave Chappell Show about meeting Prince. It’s a skit with Dave acting it out as Prince and it’s hilarious. Prince confirmed it was true.
Don't forget the rick james one it's even better "I'm Rick James bitch" and " cocaines' a helluva drug".

Erotic City by Prince is one of the dirtiest sexiest jams ever.
You think so? You haven’t Head, Let’s Pretend We’re Married, Do Me Baby, Come, Sexy MFr….and more.
Now you gotta change up the style and listen to Adore
This isn’t electronic dance music and it’s certainly not techno!!! Please widen your musical knowledge
