This was a wonderful review that really described how I feel about my car. I have a premium manual in trueno blue, and I honestly can say I am more in love with this car than anything else. Everyday is a joy to drive it. I find myself taking the long way home just to drive it more. The connection, the rawness, the light carefree nature, everything brings a smile to my face. Truly this car has saved me. I was so depressed driving my awful car everyday to work for 6 years while I saved and saved and when I saw the ad for this car I knew this was it. Now my life is amazing and this car really saved me. I will never get rid of it. One thing I’d recommend to new owners: Do the led swap kit from ftspeed. The interior lights, door lights, and reverse lights being LED make this car feel like a $60,000 car and just gives it that little bit of style. That being said, Toyota and Subaru did an amazing job. And what an excellent review. Thank you.

Couldn’t agree more. I just got mine, Premium Trim. It’s the first new car I’ve ever owned and I bought it despite not ever test driving it OR seeing it. I was blown away. I’ve had the privilege of driving a very wide variety of cars and nothing has put a smile on my face quite like this car. It’s nimble, quick, and stylish. You point the car where to go, and it goes there. And I definitely look back at it every time I park it. If you can get your hands on one, do it.

Right?) and due to profit margins, the expensive fuel economy technology in large crossovers make them as fuel efficient as inexpensive small hatchbacks. So yeah, ICE cars will only drop in price when governments start cracking down on them even more than now

I agree that the BRZ and the 86 are great for learning proper driving techniques. I would also recommend that buyers look into a low-mile C6 corvette with a 6MT. We bought a '12 C6 in pristine condition with only 11k miles for 27k and after adding Bilstein sport shocks with Michelin PS 4s tires the car has amazing handling and it is a blast to drive. Still debating trading in our '18 Civic SI for a new BRZ or 86 which would I feel would be a great daily driver. Also the 2.4L NA engine may very well be more reliable than these newer small displacement turbo engines. Great review!

Have owned this car (Premium Raven) for a few days, and so far it has lived up to (if not surpassed) expectation. The look is hard to appreciate if you havent seen it in person, yes its small (which I was a little worried about) but immediately when you see it those worries go away, the thing has a nice presence about it. Only two things so far I wish were different are the high catch point on the clutch, and the turn signal indicator not sticking, but its not something you cant adjust to.

I've been considering a used 718 Cayman for a while, but this was the car that actually changed my mind after getting behind the wheel of both. Don't get me wrong - stock for stock, the 718 is the superior car, but I honestly felt that the GR86 was better value for the money... for the price of a used Cayman, I could buy two of these brand new and while I love the 718, I really loved what I experienced in the GR86 as well. Now I'm just playing the waiting game - my local dealer is expecting to get allocated a 2023 Special Edition and I've got a deposit on it with the option to go for a Premium if they don't get the allocation. If you had told me a few years ago that I could afford a Porsche, but would buy a Toyota over it, I'd have laughed at you - these little things are amazing.

@@andrewrossnagel9433 You're right - I felt that it was better from an objective performance standpoint, but the level of engineering put into it has really removed some of the driving passion. It's a car that's all-business, so it doesn't feel anywhere near as playful as the GR86, it's the same reason I've said that I'd consider a GT350, but the new GT500 just isn't as fun. Some people want a car that's a monster in its niche, but if I'm buying a sports car I want it to be something that's fun and that's what the GR86 delivers over the 718.

Hanson, Good day, Sir. I hope you are well. Thank you for making this video. I understand that I have nothing to say that can be closely compared to this GR86. I would like to say that I owned a ‘77 Toyota Celica GT with the 20R (2.2 liter) engine and five speed manual tranny. I kept that gearshift knob out of that car because it has such a unique look and color to it. I owned a ‘90 Nissan 240SX KA24E engine (sohc) and five speed transmission. These two cars are the only examples I could even come close to comparing to the GR86. Those two cars I listed were an FR (Front engine-Rear drive) two door, 2+2 seating configuration that you have reviewed in this video. I loved the Celica’s rear quarter windows because you could crank roll them down. This was not the fastback. It had a proper trunk and the fuel
tank took up half the space in the trunk. The hood was hinged at the front of the car, not the rear like almost all cars. There were vents in the hood that were stock. It was an ugly brown color. That sculpted rear fender was the best part of that car. And right behind the left rear quarter window was the gas cap. If I had a chance to get another one just like it, I would get one. But, maybe a GR86 is a better option too.

Now, one thing no car review person does it seems is to imagine what it's like to be on your commute, or a long road trip, and have an expensive coffee beverage in your cup holder, and to have to drive, get the beverage out of the cup holder, take a sip, and put it back without spilling it. It seems car designers are making cup holders more and more awkward to do this with. This car has the cupholders shifted backwards in favor of some gadget, which I guarantee I won't be using as much as my latte, if at all. Right now my only car is a current design Subaru Outback, and I'd love to have a "fun toy car" someday, but at least I can sip my latte while I drive (safety first) and not think about it.

Fun and comfy to drive and I know for certain I have a unique vehicle as around here I have only seen ONE other 2nd Gen BRZ/GR86 and just two old and very dirty FRSs. It's definitely filled my need for a manual car so I'm now lookin' to sell my manual V6 S197 even though I love it dearly, but I still want a newer S550 GT as the one thing a BRZ cannot fulfill is that awesome feeling of a Coyote rumbling and roaring.

I own the same one too. You’re spot on with it being so dialed in. It’s unreal, and the best south of a Porsche (which arguably is indistinguishable aside from the higher quality feel the interior gives). Throw a forced induction kit on and you’re truly set. Already so choq full of supporting mods stock…

Was thinking about getting one, the limited availability in europe, and some concerns about the power/torque lead me to buy a new mk4 Focus ST instead. Seeing the engine problems I'm pretty glad I didn't buy one, but I expect subaru to deal with the issues and fix it in the future. If the prices are somewhat reasonable, I'm thinking about picking one up next year as a summer-car.

I have had the exact same car since taking delivery in 2022. It’s an awesome car - handling, looks and driving experience. Let alone the price point. I’m looking to increase horsepower by just enough to get more acceleration without having to swap out brakes and stuff. The only complaint I have is a a sticky second gear. Otherwise it’s a keeper.

I am a race car engineer. In recent years (5 or 6 years) I've owned a 2017 BMW 340i, a 2017 BMW M240i, a 2015 Porsche Cayman S, and a 2014 Scion FRS. I still own the 2017 BMW M240i. Fastest 0-60 car I've owned. But, for steering feel, hands down, no comparison, the 2014 Scion FRS has the best steering feel (out of cars I've owned). It's like you are feeling the pavement with your hand. I sold the car because it wouldn't get out of it's own way power wise. Especially low end torque. I know the new generation is much better. But I would really like to drive one to seen how much better.

I agree with you. For the money, the GR86 is unmatched. I’ve started calling it the “Great 6”.
Civic Si? The 86 is significantly faster, handles better, and is a far more pure sports car. It’s not even close.
Miata? The 86 is faster, handles better, and is far far more useful. It’s a real car, not a toy.
EcoBoost ‘Stang? GLI? GTI? Veloster? Throw pretty much ANYTHING at this car and I’d rather take the 86 home.
I had to look at some pretty excellent cars to fight the GR86. I’m talking the likes of a 2008 Porsche 911 or AP2 S2000. THATS how good the 86 is.

    • @kevincrockett5155

I'm pretty much in agreement though I love the Miata. The combination of light weight + an open roof is hard to beat though I couldn't use it as an only car. The GTI, GLI, Elantra N et al. are different types of cars. I know people lump them together due to price point and love to sling 0-60 time arrows at the 86 but it's a pure driver's car. Some don't get it, it seems like you do. It and the Miata are among my favorite reasonably priced cars on sale today.
