To the people complaining about Josh's guitar volume, this was five years ago, his volume has went up since then. Also the fact that y'all are complaining about how he sucks is unfair. Especially when they're playing an old song that Josh didn't help make, if he plays it dead ass like Frusciante, then y'all will say he isn't creative, and critique tiny things like the tone of his guitar. On the flipside, when Josh does improvise on an old song then y'all will start shit talking his abilities as a guitarist just because he didn't play it like how John would. If you listen to I'm with you, or the Getaway, you can actually get a sense of who Josh is as a guitarist.
This is the perfect example why Josh can do RHCP old songs as well as Frusciante, I mean, man Josh dominates this song, and is really the guy RHCP needs in this moment. And look at the end, its also fantastic Josh plays incredible and beautiful, thank god for us having Josh. If someone ever can fill out Johns shoes, Josh is the only man to do it!
After watching this, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that Josh is my favourite Peppers guitarist. He can do John's songs, he can do Hillel's songs, he can do Dave's songs, and he can do his own, not to mention very well. John wouldn't do any of Dave's songs, and I doubt he'll do Josh's, so that already puts Josh above John, imo. But everything else considered, Josh is just great.

Josh does improvisation too but it doesent feel as good as John because that is his song he knows how to mess with it. And john is arguably his generation's most creative and inspirational guitarist.

As a long time friend and collaborator of Frusciante I can't think of anyone more suited to this band than Josh. Josh is good. Just not good for the Chilis. They don't have the energy they did with John, he doesn't connect with Flea in the same way, and you can tell by the lack of "communication" during the jam, and Anthony never felt a need to talk during John's solos.
