Good winch exercise. One thing to consider. Synthetic winch line stores very little energy. When using a winch damper with synthetic line, it is generally accepted that putting it on the 'mass' is the better practice. This way it is directly acting on the high mass point ( the Flatlink in this case ). This way you don't have to wait for that mass to travel past the damper before it becomes effective if something was to fail in that rigging group. It is also a little handier because it won't reposition itself along the line during the winching. Bee Safe.
I have to say, I was worry a bit there in the snow, it did look a bit more tipsy on the video, great that you got out of there with no issues, good to see a wild orangie in its natural habitat. Great views and very Glad you had good family time spent with your dad.
I love that part of Arizona and plan to explore it a bit more next winter. Adventure is a foot no matter how you travel it's always fun to watch. I think we've all been there getting side-tracked and having a bit of difficulty with track conditions, glad you were able to overcome. As usual, have fun and thanks for sharing.
I'm not on Patreon, so someone should mention to Chris that Genesis has a new Gen3 system, higher cutoffs, better handshaking with smart alternators... and those junk optima batteries. Plus now that he is in AZ, he should consider a mopar steel bumper, with a winch plate and uncover half his radiator before winter ends, if he'd like to keep that new engine happy.
Oh no, I am stuck!😂 Go through your fuses with a vote meter to calculate the parasitic draw. If it’s not enough to be a concern then it could also be a faulty battery connection if the alternator is still good. Hope you get it sorted out soon. ✌️
@@JimmyDevere I don’t have a specific link, but there are tons of videos on RUclips for diagnosing parasitic draw with a multi meter depending what type of meter you have.
Hi, My understanding (after ruining two sets of deep cycle batteries) is that the vehicle alternator cuts off the charging when the vehicle battery is full, therefore not charging the house batteries fully. (There is a sign on the counter at batteries plus to that effect, which is why they wouldn't stand behind the warranty.) We put in a C-Tek charge controller and have had no trouble for the last 6 years. 😉
That little tree across the road would have been no problem for me, as I frequently cut trees much larger than that with a small Husqvarna chainsaw here in Oregon as I traverse the mountains in my two-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
Things you plug into your house battery are not parasitic draw. Other than the inverter itself you shouldn't have any parasitic draw on your house battery.
Don’t blame your battery just yet, check your alternator first. You need to upgrade your to a DC - DC system like CTEK ( D250SA ) it is easy to install and reliable.
Isolate the starting battery and get a 100ah lithium phosphate battery for the house. Charge it with a renogy 40amp dc to dc charger. The new lithium battery prices are coming down. I have a battle born purchased a couple years ago but have found others I think are just as good for $3-400. I really never run out of juice for my fridge as driving an hour or more per day keeps it topped up pretty good.
Great to see you out in Orangey again! I think you may need to swap both batteries. I'm pretty sure that connecting a new battery and an older one will cause issues with the chemistry, and kill your new battery. Double check me Chris, but I think that's your likely issue.
Odyssey batteries are still properly made afaik. Expensive but you know you get what you pay for. Optima you are paying for cheap batteries and a ton of marketing. This is why Genesis recommends Odyssey.
5 minutes and a multi-meter should sort out the source of your issues. My guess is the battery simply because Optima quality has declined and I know of many here in AZ that have moved on from them over the years. We always have considered you in unofficial Arizonan over the years. Welcome home.
I thought you were supposed to replace both batteries in system at the same time as system will seek to equalize voltage and the weaker battery will drain the fresh battery?
Pretty sure I commented on the video where you put the optima battery in. Since they sold out years ago they are garbage. If you want something good look at odyssey or northstar.
If you’re using the stock alternator, you are likely not generating enough amps to charge the engine + house batteries as you drive down trails at low rpm’s. You might want to look at a higher amp alternator and/or drive in low gear to creat more rpm’s.
@@venture4wd thank you! You should come to WY sometime. There’s a group of us that go into the mountains as well as the badlands. We always have a great time
I used the lockers initially, but once bogged down and sinking, I unlocked the axles to see if that could help crawl through the snow without digging/sinking any deeper.
There’s no set expiration on a Jeep engine. Mine was just at 200k miles and it was a timing issue. The guidance I got was that, at the 200k mark, an engine replacement would be a more cost effective repair than replacing the timing chain. Fixing the timing chain would have bought a little more time, replacing the engine black bought a LOT more time.
@8:04, Your locking differentials aren't engaged? Why not? I didn't listen to the whole video, but at this point in the video I can see not all of the wheels are turning at the same time. Probably would have works best with both lockers engaged.
