I'm glad you got to Unlucky Morpheus! They're a group of friends who came together to cover songs from video games then began creating original pieces together. The red haired guitarist is one of the founders, song writer and composer and does harsh vocals. All of their songs are great, but from a composer perspective I feel you would greatly appreciate their song CADAVER/REVADAC. With the exception of the drums and lyrics, the song is played note for note forward (Cadaver) and reverse (Revadac). I recommend the sheet music video that has the notes scroll at the bottom of the screen! Here's a link 🤘😊🤘

      Correction
Shiren is the founder not co-founder
And used to do everything on his own but the vocals it wasn't a "friends getting together making music"but him starting on his own.
      He used to program everything
Also, they spent a lot of years covering touhou music until the affected album

Unlucky Morpheus were started in 2008 after the break up of a short lived band that did covers of songs from video games. The singer, Fuki, told the guitarist, Shiren, that she had enjoyed working with him so much that she wanted to do it again. So they started Unlucky Morpheus, who did rearragements of songs from a video game series called the Touhou project, they started to write their own metal songs in around 2014. It started out with just the 2 of them, with Shiren playing all the musical parts, as a side project. Then over time they started to get a bit popular and the fans want to see them play live, so they asked some friends to help them out playing live, then slowly over time they started to add members of the band, all of them were full time in other bands, Jill (violin) was the last to join in 2016. Black Pentagram was released in 2016, so was proberrly writen before Jill joined, one of the reasons why she is more in the bachground, she becomes more prominent in later songs.
Shiren is now suffering with tenosynovitis of the the arm, which made him stop working in all the other bands he was in, but as Unlucky Morpheus was his band, he stayed with it. He sometimes rests his arm on stage and just sings or growls and Jill takes over his guitar parts on the violin, with this song being one of them.
Over the last couple of years they have stared to realise that they have become popular, inclueding overseas, so have become a full time band, with most of the members looking on it as their main band who go off and do songs with other bands. The only 2 that are in other full time bands are the bassist, who is really a jazz musician, and the 2nd guitarist, who has now become the main guitarist due to Shiren's issues. They did their 1st tour in Japan in 2017 and played for the 1st time out side Japan, in London in October last year. Thay hoping to do a world tour, when the curent crisis is over.
They have a new group coming out of the band now "QUADRATUM From Unlucky Morpheus" which is an insturmental band and is Unlucky Morpheus without Fuki or Shiren, and have an album out Jan next year.
Seeing as you liked DANCE OF ETERNITY you may like this cover of it, by Jill ruclips.net/video/LUtdC-9jaPc/видео.html&ab_channel=JillviolinChannel

I suggested before, but I’ll suggest again: how about some Band-Maid, for some more Japanese hard rock (Domination (live) would be a good jump-in point), and also try the Latin-influenced prog group The Mars Volta (Drunkship of Lanterns is my favorite). Also love the chakra healing music you do, that's relevant to my interests as well. Keep doing your thing! Hope your channel gets bigger and bigger. You should check out their live performance of their song Angreifer ( link: ruclips.net/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/видео.html )
    2 things to note:
1: The songs ends at about 7:15, the last minute or so is post-song crowd banter. Interesting to listen to if you want to hear the growler's natural voice.
2: The growler isn't playing his guitar because he suffers from tenosynovitis, so he's focused on growling and the violin is covering his part.
No matter what I hope you keep listening to them because they're sick.

Old decomposer, I hope there’s Ginko in that beverage! These musicians can indeed play whatever they want, I’d call this symphonic metal, harpsichord, violin, string synth... in fact the two guitar parts and violinist have all switched parts at times, esp violin covering growler/guitar/writer/programmer’s guitar parts when his chronic pain flares.
Japan in general is killing it in rock and metal, esp the women, and especially at reviving refreshing and mashing up old styles, Japanese flair to European roots. I’d love to hear more geeked out analysis from Japanese prog rock and pop metal!
This song really stresses harmonic minor, especially in descending vocal chorus (as opposed to melodic minor), but also plenty of major 4s(Beatles), and dim2s (dissonant classical)
Try Singer Fuki’s other bands, esp Doll$Boxx, eclectic funk pop techno metal. Try Dragonet MV, song about last dragon banished to cry blood from the stars forever, drummer in English “dominated the ancient world wars, his name is Dragonet”. Esp in Unlucky Morpheus, she loves to write using old literature nerd language 😉 ruclips.net/video/nH4TEyJwpm4/видео.html
And check out Lovebites, also all female Japanese, but sing in English. How about ease you in with Edge of the World. Subtitled I think (she has an accent, but great writing), and live, and a touch of multi instrumentalism ruclips.net/video/FGRxXCDtRFA/видео.html
    Enjoy!

I definitely heard the harpsichord at the beginning of the solo section. I think it disappeared by the time the other guitarist did the part (but the rhythm guitar behind it could have hidden it), though. What really caught my ears was in the little section between the two solos when the drummer did that fast tap on the cymbals...it almost sounded like the harpsichord section was back, since it brought back that percussive pluck sound. That was super neat.

Ha, and jill was just a background character for this song. As Socrates said, "Cadaver/Revadac" is a must listen for Unlucky Morpheus. So many talented and great hard rock/metal bands from the Land of The Rising Sun, and really no one does the neo-classical/power metal better.
Recommend checking out Versailles. They completely changed the way I think about playing guitar and writing metal music (also re-inspired me to learn to write orchestral music!) ruclips.net/video/ilzoDGcKF9M/видео.html

If you want to try more by them I'd suggest trying Angreifer live: ruclips.net/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/видео.html
I'd also suggest checking out another project the lead singer from this group works with called DOLL$BOXX, I think you might find their track Take My Chance interesting: ruclips.net/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/видео.html Whilst conceptually a simple track, mostly being based around the "Sensitive Female Chord Progression" (Am F C G) and an A Phrygian Dominant verse/bridge they demonstrate how many textures can be extracted from the same chord sequence through clever arrangement and use of textures. In particular there's a really wonderful bit of counterpoint in the pre-chorus/chorus that first contrasts the main melody, then joins it, then starts interweaving with it in a really smart and smooth way creating one of the most successful bits of complex but catchy melody I've heard in a very long time.

Welcome to the world of Japanese rock & metal. You'll be amazed at how much is out there. It's interesting to see someone start with a band that's not one of the two reaction channel "big hitters" in Band-Maid and Babymetal, too. Of those two, I'll recommend Band-Maid, who are an all-female rock band who have a look designed to deliberately contrast to how they sound. People normally recommend live performances, but I'll offer "Dice" which is a rare one where the MV is probably better, just because the mix is perfect. ruclips.net/video/ZpAYnVJX9CY/видео.html I'll also offer a 2nd recommendation - The Let's Go's. They are a much less well-known band, and unlike nearly every other Japanese recommendation you'll get, you won't be blown away by technical excellence or the high level of production, but are still a lot of fun. They are an all-female three piece, who play a kind of old style stripped back punk, but with a rare upbeat attitude of enjoyment to everything they do. Simply, 'energy, character, fun' could sum them up. ruclips.net/video/Za98RjpKnK8/видео.html

    I've got three more suggestions.
First, Agostina by Puscifer. Which is one of Maynard's bands, and probably my favourite of the three. Their albums are usually concept albums in a very particular way. Conditions of My Parole was built around banjos and mandoline, while still remaining in their alt-rock/post-industrial groove. On the newest album, Existential Reckoning, they took a synth that was used heavily by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush etc. in the 80s, and built the album around that, but still in that alt-rock/post-industrial groove. I can't really remember the "concept" for Money Shot, which is where you'll find Agostina, but it's got a lot of processed synths and ambient layers.
    ruclips.net/video/NpjuUfV3Qss/видео.html
Then a couple Mew songs. They're an alt-rock/indie rock/prog-rock group from Denmark who like to play around with meter changes, to no one's surprise. But they keep most of their songs to around five minutes while still retaining prog-rock sensibilities. But what I had first is mind was Comforting Sounds. It's nine minutes long, but is a simplified 3 chord progression (might be 4, but you get the idea) "pop rock" song. They do a lot of this turning ideas on their heads. And I figured you'd get a kick out of it.
    ruclips.net/video/jej__CepHWU/видео.html
And my last suggestion (for the day is) In The Wake Of Your Life from their latest album, Visuals. For this album they said they flipped their song writing process up side down, which in their case might mean anything. They might have started with the lyrics, but I don't presume to know what their song writing process is. What I do know, is that this whole albums sounds like Tony Banks from Genesis produced it. And I love it.

Would love to see you react to the band japanese band Ningen Isu, the song Heartless Scat comes to mind. Also a Japanese band, but a bit less intense 3 piece setup.

I know there are a lot of requests, but I would love to hear any of the following:
Angra - The Shadow Hunter ruclips.net/video/aE3GkuykCKM/видео.html Brazilian metal band, so it has some nice South American flavour, a number of different sections, and wonderful soaring Iron Maiden-esque vocals. When I first heard this one I was blown away.
Haken - Somebody ruclips.net/video/kLIyBYQkr3w/видео.html American English prog metal band. This particular track has some Gentle Giant vibes at times with polyrythmic vocals. After listening to this earworm I am humming the vocal melodies all day.
Keep on goin' man! Aloha. :)

Back again with a request for tesseract. Here's a link to a popular song: ruclips.net/video/Le27ejQdhq4/видео.html . This is a good introduction because it takes you through a good idea of what their general style looks like, but they have some much more complex songs than this.

Would love to see you dive into some Animals as Leaders. Most would classify them as prog metal/djent, but their sound dips into several genres. Hard to pick one song to recommend, but I think this is a good start - ruclips.net/video/3UqlXHE56r0/видео.html

wow this was great! You are spot on on your analysis , can tell you know what you talking about.
Unlucky Morpheus label themselves as "technical melodic speed metal" and yes, they have tons of neo-classical elements.
This is the first video i watch from you, so I dont know what's your stance on Live videos, as you are a composer you might prefer listening to studio versions, but i highly recommend checking them live.
    Unlucky Morpheus - Angreifer ruclips.net/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/видео.html
if you really want to stick to studio versions, i highly recommend Cadaver / Revadac ,revadac being cadaver backwards and lets just say that the word isnt the only thing backwards.

For another great J-Metal band I recommend Lovebites, all female power metal, also amazing live

Yeah man, was thinking of Malmsteen there too in sections, especially the solo. Nice Legato and sweeps. Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth was heavily influenced by Malmsteen and even Paganini during his early development as a musician. As good as the singer is, something just didn't quite work for me in terms of a lot of her singing meshing with the music, otherwise it's awesome, but not quite there.
