👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
Language is my "If I had to choose one album to take on a deserted island" album. Just endlessly entertaining, never gets boring and doesn't have a single track that's less than a full 10/10. What a masterpiece.
Top 10 Progressive album of all time.
This album holds a special place in my heart, especially the "rediscovered" version, where they reinterpreted 4 of thoe songs in an a mostly acoustic session. REALLY worth a watch, as they also released these songs as videos
This is one of my all-time favorite albums. Besides being objectively excellent, it helped me through some difficult times.
I've been trying to get Geebz to react to the Rediscovered since 2020 with no luck 😭
@@ckokomo808 Same here. I seen them live in 2016 when I was going through a lot, and speaking to Mike (the vocalist) afterward, he told me to "stay safe and to seek comfort." Which was kind of strange to hear as I was only talking about how much I loved Language, but it really stuck with me and I think about it a lot to this day when I listen to them and that album in particular.
This album is incredible 😊
This is one of the few songs that can make me cry because of how perfect and beautiful it is. That "yeah" after the screaming section is one of my favorite music moments of all time.
AGREED. 100%
I only first heard of The Contortionist through the channel, but they always blow me away with their sound!
I LOVE the ambient soundscapes they create, just all of this floaty, "drifting" feeling that comes with it.
Always a pleasure to see them pop up here and for us to chill out with some great music.🤙
Thanks Geebz! Appreciate all you do, and love ya, man.
I'm still here, and keep on rocking!🤘
This is one of the great modern prog metal albums in my opinion. Just a gorgeous and beautifully composed, unique piece of work.
For anyone looking for another modern prog metal album with a similar sound, try Skyharbor's Guiding Lights, can't recommend that album enough either.
Great call on Skyharbor. I was way into those guys when this one came out. Second one and subsequent work wasn't as good, but you nailed it, that album is an unheralded classic album. Dots, Celestial, Catharsis. And can't find it on streaming anymore!!
Catharsis and Celestial blew me away when I was about 16 years old. Still songs I hold dear to my heart!
Everyone's said it, but massive song on a massive album. I think it's one of the best albums of the past decade, and their creative peak.
it's absolutely their best album and one of the best albums on this genre. it's in my top 10 of forever albums next to the mars volta, tesseract, coheed and tool. & others i can't conjure rn.
@@michellelee3379 sounds like we are musical doppelgänger’s LOL
Thrive is a must listen too
Hard to pick a single best track from this album, but that one is a solid candidate.
Can’t believe almost 10 years of this masterpiece of an album. Truly a game changer
Geebz gotta decompose “ragnarok” by Periphery. Love these vids man. Best wishes.
As a drummer I absolutely love this band, this album is a masterpiece
Glad you’re checking them out again! Such an amazing band. Expect something new from them maybe later this year or early next year.
I hope so. I’ve been desperate for new TC for a while and they’ve had plenty of time to cook up something great. I’m confident they won’t disappoint 👍
this album is definitely the best album of 2014 for me
real drummer, Joey Baca :)
One of the best prog albums to ever be released. I really hope they can get another album out. They've been really quiet since the pandemic began. I know they've all gotten married and had children and had deaths in their families so they can take as long as they need, but I'm jonesin' for it.
One of my favorited bands in the last 10 years. Love that album.
'No quiero llorar ahora, carajo' Hahahahha
I felt that 😂😭
Awwriiiight, revisiting The Contortionist. If you do any other reactions from this album I highly-highly recommend Ebb and Flow. The outro of that song is everything I love about this album wrapped up into one section.
One of favorites, glad you picked it brother.
If you haven't heard it yet I would very strongly suggest "Thrive" off the same album. It is absolutely incredible and I am sure you would enjoy it.
love your contortionist reaction/reviews :) thats how i found this channel. would love if you went back and did some tracks off of the exoplanet album. if i had to pick one i would say give flourish a listen. that song will do magical things to you
Love this song and love this album! My personal favourite is Language 1, which I actually covered on my own channel recently :’)
Damn, I miss The Contortionist and CHON :(
Rip CHON😔
Odd times, dissonance, amazing chord progression, nasty riffs, ambience, amazing vocal, great guttural, they have everything, love them
Something WAAAYYYY out of left field to check out, even on your own time would be the Lovecraft Sextet’s album Miserere. It’s like blackened dark jazz with doomy atmosphere.
wow, that was so great!!!!!
This is one of my top 3 prog metal albums of the last decade.
Aloha Geebz! I'm still here!
The Contortionist put out an incredible covers album called "The Anatomy of". Easily one of the greatest cover albums of all time. You should definitely check it out.
that ones by between the buried and me, not the contortionist. both are some of my favorite bands
BTBAM erasure right here
Please check out Old Flame - Pray!
I would LOVE to see a Bryson vs. Andrew debate. I endorse this, Brian. I know you intentionally avoid talks of religion/Christianity since you believe "it's not dating related", but religion/faith IS important to a lot of us in the dating schema, even if it's not a priority for you. And it seems that you considered this for at least a moment when it was mentioned in the chat.
Not to mention, I think the debating episodes you do should cover any and all relevant topics to society, since the presence/absence of ethics DO matter in shaping it. Especially if you already debate abortion on them, which is as relevant of a moral issue as religion, and is contained in that system of ethics. You could cover literally any and all moral issues, including those more relevant to dating. Many of us would tune in for this.
I will kindly ask you to do a Review and reaction of: Close to the edge by Yes
You will not be dissapointed
Geebz was probably listening to CttE before I was even born lmao
Kinda reminds me of Deftones at points.
Lead singer sounds so much like Gavin from dredg
Holy smokes...I haven't heard anyone talk about Dredg in years. That takes me back.
This composer is powered by Vegemite and peanut butter.
brotherrrrrrrrrrr
also pls react to the "new" mars volta, i will die
bless
I know it’s a bit of a difference… but I’d love to watch you hearing Death Grips
please react to Animals as leaders - On Impulse !!! it is so underrated
You should react to Key to the gate by Burzum
a spacy spiritual native adventure through ancient sounds of future. Album is a spiritual enlightening return to our roots. One of my favorite songs and albums ever. Check out casualty by them and turbulent by between the buried and me. Geeb on.
Please check out some songs by wheel. I think you will like them
The Contortionist are one of my favourite bands ever . Michael Lessard’s voice with the fuelling guitars and the tight and glorious drumming with melodic bass lines . I personally love every song on this album . My favourite would be Thrive or Language 1 or The source acoustic . They did a version of the album with 4 acoustic versions of their songs . Each acoustic tune is so gorgeous .
I love the lyrics in this album .. they have a profound and meditative spiritual feel to them .
Thank you so much for chatting about the musicianship !! I loved to hear your comments about the drumming and bass tone . I’m a guitarist myself but I will say they have some of the best guitar tones I’ve heard. And the bass and drums sound out of this world too.
I love that Contortionist are not afraid to be melodic . To go from crushing dissonance and bouncy riffs to an sound scape that keeps building to a conclusion
almost like a post rock song ! But totally different :)
Their album ‘ Clairvoiyant’ after this is a lot less aggressive and goes deeper into a whole new sound .
Personally I love this as much as I love each album . They also released an ep called Our bones. If you’re feeling really brave I would be curious to hear you check out Last Chance to Reason and their song Upload Complete . Mike lessard started there and came to be the vocalist of Contortionist later on .
If the devil was a hot female 😂 that was very intriguing !
Contortionist are so so amazing as musicians and Jamie King is an incredible mixer / producer . He also does Between the Buried and Me albums too !
Take care Geebz and I hope you have an amazing day ! This was a lot of fun to see your reaction and to hear your musician brain picking apart the song
Oops I really love this band , I wrote a lot ! Sorry about that ! :)
Probably my least fav album of theirs. Feel like they did prog deathcore better on the earlier albums and prog metal better on the album that followed, and this kind of floundered in the middle.
So many people seem to love it though, and it brought them so much success, so good for them - guess it's just personal taste 🤷♂️
oh yeah, I'm here for it
Not personally a huge fan of this album, but this song is definitely a vibe
With this album they showed us another side of metal. Like it or not, but Language is one of the most unique metal releases to date.
Whether it's Apparition/Shapeshifter-era, or Clairvoyant, TC always add such deep levels of complexity, musicality, and creativity to an oversaturated genre. Can't wait for the new album!
This whole album is amazing it really deserves a complete listen from start to finish. The album is an experience
Great album, I feel like the parable would have been a better track to do though.
When are they coming back! What an album
Thank you Geebz
I just love this entire album from start to finish. The song that follows this one is just insane and is probably my favorite off the album. If you're curious about the part writing behind that one I have it notated on my channel.
I would love to see you react to something from their Shapeshifter EP, their first release and my personal favorite from them. They were a completely different band back then!
