  • Intermediate surfers often "short paddle" so they don't paddle efficiently into the wave. For many reasons too. Check this video to see if you do this and correct your technique. You can see more about catching unbroken waves here • Surf Insight : Catchin... Please check out the description below to find out more about what we do.

    Makes total sense. Lots of the locals here miss the wave because of it. The old guys always seem to catch them tho with steeze, now I know why. :)

    Hi there
    Great video! I think we met on the azores a bit more than a year ago. Waves weren't to big and if I remember correctly we switched boards as well. You also had a proper advice for me. All the best!

    Nice video!... the longboarder lifted her legs up towards her but taking the drag out of the tail also ... keeping your chin down on the deck of the board and weight focused thru your chest in that position will also help build speed out of flat water also .

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  4 года назад

      Thanks for that .... often long board riders will raise the legs at that moment and the weight of the legs sits the board more in the water and that can help ..its kind of a personal thing too . We really hope we see you at www.surfschoolsrilanka.com/ and www.surfschoolanzarote.com/ one day.

    I've wondered whether I can paddle faster using both arms simultaneously to pull me through the water. When rowing you'll go faster if all oars pull at the same time. Also, the top speed of a breast stroke is greater than a crawl stroke. Horses run with the front legs working together and not opposite. Can you help me think of an example where it's faster to use one limb at a time?

      Hi Troy ... for sure on race paddling surfboards double paddle is often used while on the knees and sometimes prone , If you ride longboard from a knee paddling position then double paddles could still work for you . On shorter boards its better to one arm /one arm paddle as it gives a constant pull to the forward motion that not being helped by a longer board . The best thing to do is check out this channel for all surf paddle info ruclips.net/channel/UClbAgx7HTW0OcYUI2D_RnNw I found it so good. Great video as always, hey Tim how old are you if you dont mind me asking, and do you still shortboard? Cheers

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  4 года назад +3

      I'm 62 and I ride normally 3 boards .. a 5'8" fish and 5'11" round pin and 6'0 round pin. I do ride longer boards if the surf requires it but prefer not to long board .. my lower back hates it too ha . @@SurfInsight Hi Tim thanks for letting me know. I'd asked as I'm in my forties and was worried my shortboard days might be nearing an end, I'm finding it harder to pop up as fast as I used to on my shortboard but you've been an inspiration to me, and you rip! Thanks 😊

    • @SurfInsight
      @SurfInsight  3 года назад

      We know that some times a "double paddle " when we know we have really caught the wave can work Check out surfers like Jordie Smith but its never used to propel us into the wave unless on a huge mal ..check out ruclips.net/video/XYZ46bGfZ08/видео.html
