- → Join me on a once in a blue moon flight aboard United Airlines as they utilize their heavy birds on one of their generally under demanded routes - Las Vegas to Los Angeles! This is an absolute avgeek's dream - 42 minutes on a widebody in first class! The reason United scheduled all these widebody flights on just this one day is still unknown - but either way, I took FULL advantage of them! Initially, my route that day was going to be LAS-LAX-LAS-SFO-LAS - all on 777's. But United saw how empty these flights were and ended up combining a bunch of the SFO flights into 1 flight practically eliminating any chance I had of getting on an SFO bound 777. It would have been the Star Alliance one too! Uggh. Moving on to the next adventure, though. We begin at one of LAS's several widebody gates, gate D57, and pushback. Winds were out of the west, so we taxi to runway 26R. Does anyone else notice widebody pilots tend to taxi slower than narrowbody pilots? Or is that just me? We line up and wait on runway 26R before applying power for takeoff. The roar of the GE90's on this bird is nothing short of intoxicating! Since this flight was SO light, our climb performance out of Las Vegas was spectacular. We get great views of the airfield and the Strip as we climb out. As we navigate out of the semi-crowed airspace of KLAS, we ascend over the dry desert of which is Nevada. We cross into California and fly over the San Gabriel Mountains and begin our slow descent into Los Angeles. Flying a nearly straight-in approach to LAX, we land on runway 25L very softly. This being my second time in first-class aboard a 777, it's always funny when you can barely feel the main gear touch, but the nose gear feels like it was slammed down. We taxi to ramp C7 and shut down the engines. As advised by the captain, we are such a large aircraft in such a tight alley, we were required to shut down the massive engines and be tugged into the gate to avoid massive jet blast into nearby gates. We get tugged into gate 72A and set the parking brake. I hope you enjoy this short widebody flight aboard United Airlines as much as I did, and, as always, all the flight information you could ever desire can be found below!

my goodness - a wide body 777 on a LAS to LAX route! Amazing
*The smoothest landing I have ever seen or heard.*
It was soooooooo buttery!
Smooth landing = USAF pilot
Hard landing = USN pilot
Excellent video
Back in my flight attendant days w/ UAL i worked a 747 from SFO to LAX roundtrip.
I love widebodies on short routes
Ultimate Avgeek Dream!

Flying beats driving any day!
Ima rate this landing, BUTTER/10. That means, it’s gonna butter my bread for breakfast
Keep the horizon horizontal.
It sounds like something is really vibrating like hell...
Gets to fly on a 777 on a 200 mile flight. Meanwhile on my 1000 mile flight, I get an ERJ.
During covid pandemic why didn't united go from just giving a poured cup of a beverage to giving the full can?
To my knowledge, we did offer the full can. It wasnt until very recently we went back to a poured cup.
Where the plane go to next after LAX?
this plane returned to LAS, then flew to EWR!
🤹🤹♀️🤹♂️ I love in Vegas, took an edible put some Smiths on and watched your video to Lax on the 777 🗿
Can you send me downloaded video if you can via email. Thanks.
Why a 777
My only thought was for the CES. United did one more bout of 777 service a week later to Vegas. I even asked the agents at the airport and they were clueless 🤷♂️
"What about the one after that? You cannot be serious! Ah damnit!"
"What?"
"Every flight to LA is booked!"
"What about into Burbank?"
"Totally sold out!"
"Ah DAMN! Well we can't DRIVE there, the wedding starts in three and a half hours! ALAN, WHERE'S THE CAR?!?!"
"It's on it's way!"
"You know what? We CAN drive there, we can make it!"
