  • → Join me on, well, a flight that operated based on sheer luck. This is a story you don't wanna miss! We landed in from Kansas City at around 3:30PM and, as you can tell by the flight information below, we didn't leave for over 8 HOURS LATER! Here's what went down. We already had a near-5 hour connection to this Tucson-bound flight, so we were already prepared to be sitting a while. My sister and I got settled, played several rounds of Minecraft, she built an entire 1,000 piece Lego set right on the airport floor and I got a few z's in. By the time 8:00PM rolled around (8:30PM scheduled departure time), I got an alert that the flight was delayed a few minutes, till 8:55PM. No big deal. I tell my sister to get ready to go, and as if on cue, we got hit with the big one. 11:45PM. That sucks. We have already been travelling for more than 12 hours and just wanted to get home. After doing some digging, it turns out that Southwest re-routed our original plane on to cover an earlier delayed flight to Lihue, leaving us plane-less and nearly hope-less. Southwest finally found a free plane to set us up with, but it was coming from clear across the country, from Nashville. So that was going to take while. But once the plane arrived, and we were boarded, we pushed off the gate and started our trek to Tucson - or so we thought. BOOM! Flight crew time out. Done. Back to the gate we go. Our only hope at this moment was that this is a crew base, so the likelihood of a captain being on reserve was higher than if we were in, say, Omaha. Sure enough, a new captain showed up, we got resituated and pushed back again, this time, actually headed to Tucson, only 4 and half hours late. I hope you enjoy this full flight video/audio production as much as I did, and, as always, all the flight information you could ever desire can be found below!

    A good excersize in how NOT to brief passengers on a delay by that captain. "Uhhh, we're probably not going to have another captiain to operate this flight". LOL. Anyways, another good one!

    I lived in Tucson for a bit. My family is from there. I’m from the Chicago northern burbs so , Tucson doesn’t really show that. I miss the town though.

    Normally takeoffs at LAX are from the north side of the airport which is a very short taxi for Southwest Airlines

    • @AviationManiak
      @AviationManiak  2 года назад

      Normally, yes. But during the night hours, as a noise abatement procedure, LAX goes to an omnidirectional pattern, with aircraft arriving over the water on 06L/R (north side) and departing over to water on 25R/L (south side). Despite our flight crew almost being timed out, LAX ATC couldnt hold planes landing on 06R/L just for one plane to takeoff, sadly.

    I had a 14 year gap of flying into Tucson because the other 6 times I flew into Arizona was into Phoenix and flew into Tucson only 3 times. At least I did not have to deal with traffic in Phoenix or in between Phoenix and Tucson

    I do know LAX has a flight crew base there making it easier to fly planes but my connecting flights were through Houston Hobby and Denver to and from Omaha

    Been on red eyes flight numerous times but not at southwest. Hopefully Southwest add red eyes flights intercontinental flights

    • @AviationManiak
      @AviationManiak  2 года назад

      I hope not... Red eyes are the bane of my existence 😂 Theyre just there for convenience. The mere fact that Southwest doesnt have them is the leading reason im seeking employment with them 😁

      @@AviationManiak how many flights does southwest have a day at ktus? And how many per gate per day?

    • @AviationManiak
      @AviationManiak  2 года назад

      @AviationWithEli Hate when I don't get notified of comment replies... Sorry it took me so long to get back to ya. Southwest has 3 gates at TUS (A3, A4, & A6) but often use the common use gate A2 for overnight planes. The number of flights varies by the month, but ranges between 8 to 12!

    That first captain must have exceeded the maximum hours for the month. He basically got free money from that delay.
