Literally means there’s 3 more sets and you’re home and dry. Problem is I do 3x 3 drop sets Lol. Then at end of every drop set I do half reps to failure, then isometric hold. I take leg extensions over that bastard any day.
I feel calves are probably the most genetically limited muscles to build. Meaning that anyone can build theirs bigger, but some aren’t going to get the results they want. That goes with every body though, right? Calves are just even harder if you ain’t got them. I built much better calves by doing them every other day for years. Same lifts you show and talk here, Jay. The shape (e.g. insertion points) of muscles is genetic. Calves are particularly sensitive to shape. My shins are very bowed and make my calves look funny.

Every muscle is controlled more by genetics than anything else. I've noticed forearms and calves tend to be linked, like big calves mean you can grow big forearms.
@@SheepAmongG.O.A.Tthere is this bodybuilder i saw on youtube yesterday. He was big, big upper legs but his calves were insanely tiny. Like he didnt train them at all
I do almost all sets in the 8-12 range for all muscle groups . . . except calves. I go 20-30 reps. For years I did 8-12 for calves too, but I never felt a burn or pump in that rep range, and the growth was so so. I get way better results with the high reps, who knows why. Might be worth a try for anyone struggling to beef their calves up.
I’ve always struggled with small calves even after training them every day they weren’t sore for 2 years straight. Ive looked for just about every solution or workout routine possible and what I’d realized is most people with naturally big calves grew up with an athletic background or were overweight. When I started running 10 miles a week I grew almost an inch in two months. Sometimes the calves are not the issue, the ankle and tibialis muscle are just underdeveloped.
I for sure believe they are genetic. My whole family has small calves. Although mine have gotten a little tiny bit bigger ever since I started to really train them.
Best way to get massive calves is to get obese. I'm not even kidding. I used to be obese but even after I lost all my extra weight, I still have my big calves. I've never seen an obese person with calves that aren't massive and shredded
I've heard many people talk about this, I think it is relates to the concept of Nucleus Overload, when obese, your calves endure tons of volume (literally) every day just by you walking around, and thus over a long period of time become very well developed. I've never seen a fat person have small calves when they lost weight.
I find Jay very likable and relatively humble. He cracjs ne up sometimes with what he teaches with his words and what he does with gis form. Ya I just do it on the leg press too, as long as you can get a good stretch at the bottom by having your heels hang off there isn’t much difference in these exercises, basically just the same thing at different angles.
Appreciate that crucial n valuable tip ...knowledge n technique...from a legendary n iconic bodybuilder...thnk mighty JC for that unbelievably beneficial tip...👍🙏✌
Your insertions are what they are no matter what you do. Really high insertions means with a lot of work it'll look like a fist on the back of your leg. Work 'em anyway.
Same! I've previously heard that a lot of people bounce too much which actually doesn't give that "deep stretch" at the bottom that he mentions. Apparently it helps to let the mechanical tension dissipate before doing the next rep. It looks like Jay might be doing an extra squeeze at the top of his movement to get that maximum contraction. So he's not bouncing, i think, instead I believe he's doing: Lift, squeeze, lower He just does it fast so it looks like a bounce. But I'd love to hear if someone has other thoughts.
"Frequency and prioritization" People who complain about small calves seem to do the same "few sets of standing and seated calf raises at the end of my leg workout". Try this, do them FIRST on your leg days and at the end of your upper body days.

I’m sure you’ve all heard this, but calves have insertions and origin points as do all muscles and like all other muscles, genetics dictate those insertions and origin points. So yes, anyone can build bigger calves. The problem comes when your calves aren’t long, as in when the gastrocnemius and the solus turn into the Achilles tendon. That is decided by genetics and typically the longer the calf muscle is, the most aesthetic or the more “big” it will look as well as the better training will have on it. You can train your calves to get bigger like any muscle, you just cant train it to get longer
