Setting Demons in a cinema was a clever move on the part of the filmmakers I think, as the audience is in the exact same location as the protagonists! Imagine watching this in a darkened cinema & fearing people might 'turn' around you :) The helicopter crashing through the ceiling towards the end has always stuck in my mind as one of the craziest most random things to happen in a movie! Thanks for mentioning that the apocalypse had already begun by that point, it completely explains it! Great review, cheers!
Yeah those WOP filmmakers - like Dario Argent, Lucio Fulci and Lamberto Bava - just can't quite make 'em the AMERICAN way like John Carpenter and George Romero! .. . just come out and SAY it. I'm wondering, do you also consider Sergio Leon crap compared to John Ford? . .. I'll betch ya do.
No, because Sergio Leone could actually tell a story....
Name one Carpenter or Romero movie with Suspiria's cinematography. I'll wait.
BTW without Argento, Romero could not make Dawn.
Awesome! Thanks so much. I think you have to go about Argento & (Mario / Lamberto) Bava movies with a different approach: do not search desperately for logic and a tight screenplay... forget about that. Stop asking yourself all of those questions (Iain: "Why....but.. WHY??!" :D), at least.. try to stop looking for plot-holes. These movies often have a dream-like quality to them, the audio-visual design is much more important than the screenwriting (style-over-substance). Gary sort of get's it... Take in the set-pieces, the effects, the music - the whole atmosphere. Flip the logic-swith to "off", get yourself some quality drinks and enjoy this piece of pure 80's extravaganza. I hope you are reviewing some more films of Argento / Bava in the future.
Precisely
Well said. 👍
Wooooohooo I love this film - amazing soundtrack too. Demons two is also awesome. Zombie Flesh Eaters is brilliant how can you not love it? I also love films that don't point out everything, that's why I mostly dislike modern films. Everything is explained FFS it's so bloody annoying lol. Black Pimp voice FTW.
When it comes to the zombie flicks of George Romero and Lucio Fulci I do not get why one must hate and trash one and love and extol the other and pit them against each other in an idiotic pissing match. I mean, DIG this, .. . I have no difficulty liking them BOTH!
That shmuck on the left dissed Zombie Flesh Eaters? .. . well then FUCK HIM!! I mean it's cool if he favors Dawn Of The Dead, I can respect THAT, but ZFE was just as influential on the contemporary zombie movie genre, and he could at least respect THAT about it!
Side with Gary on this one
Ian needs to turn his brain off and just enjoy the bloody movie.
Me, my brother and cousin were rooting for the black guy when we first watched it as kids 😄. Bobby Rhodes is the real hero of this movie.
Finally some Argento / Bava stuff.
It's funny how Ian constantly praised this movie in the Night of the Demons review
Love this channel. Great reviews. Also Ian's use of the word "cinermar" is classic. Can you guys review Sorcerer? Awesome movie.
Would love to see you guys review John Carpenters Vampires Hope you lads are well.
I love your channel guys! Was wondering if you may have time to do a review of "The Fly" and "The Fly II". Much appreciated!
I have been trying to remember what this bloody film was called for over a decade now! Blimey, brings back memories.
It's the perfect movie for when it's late at night and you're heavily intoxicated and can't fully concentrate on anything but you're not quite ready to go to bed or haven't passed out yet.
...At least that's how i've watched it in the past and it served me well.
For me, that movie is Club Dread. No shame. Still dont know who the killer is because im always shit faced or asleep
If you didn't spot it, BTW, Kano was the same actor as the guy in the movie who cut his face, and the side of his face that got cut/infected in the movie is the side that's covered with metal in the "real" world. So, my take on the setup was that the actor somehow got infected while filming the movie, and then tried to replicate the events from the script to let the demons out. You have the kids in the theater who mirror the characters on screen; they're the sacrifices. You have a demon mask that someone has to be stupid and play with (the whole Cabin in the Woods "they have to transgress" thing) so they can be infected, and then you have a load of screaming meat to feed and host the demons as they come through.
I agree with this.
Wow. Thats interesting. Thanks for the information.
LOVE this film, it’s such a good, cheesy and gory ride. Discovered one of my favorite rock songs (Night Danger by Pretty Maids) in this movie. Fun review as usual :)
The shot of Urbano Barberini riding on the motorcycle suspended in the air with the demons leaping in the background is hilarious!
its almost 6 in the morning and watching this is the first thing im doing with my life.
You guys slay me 😆😂
Please please please never stop, and please please please do the Omen quadrilogy! 😃
excellent recommendation
These guys should stop immediately .
@@dignerdscreep
Iain there’s no R in cinema 😂🤣
Fun fact: Urbano Barberini is actually a Prince, a real nobleman, i aint kidding! Many says looks like Jensen ackles, they are right! 😊😊
I get both of your views on this.
For one, if you want answers and logical progression from your horror, than Italian movies from... most any era are not the best call.
At the same time, there is a certain... something to so many of them.
It might have something to do with the particular social anxieties of Italian people of the time, perhaps?
Excellent review, chaps. I appreciate the long-form style.
Yet another great choice of film to review! I'd love to see future videos about some obscure horror; maybe The Unnamable (1988), Rumpelstiltskin (1995), Castle Freak (1995), and other similar style movies. Nobody ever seems to mention any of these films.
Iain is right. The audience should be let into the motivation of the demons. What’s the legend or ritual being carried out? What is the reason the demons are inviting people to this movie theater? I would rather watch Demon Knight or Night of the Demons than this. If the best character is the pimp that’s not a good sign. Good review guys. 😀😀😀
14:52 I always thought of it maybe loosely as Hellraiser type / Demonic or whatever type Curse magic powers that did the Blocking bricking up the doorways , dunno.
"Rick James" LOL!
Also; I second the request for "Evil Ed"!
I remember seeing this movie when I was 12 and recovering from surgery. Memories.
A prequel maybe - a group of people touring in some remote part of south america discover a spiky plant near a dormant volcano which, if it pricks you, turns you into a rabid-like maniac with rapid growing nails and teeth. The infection is contagious. One particularly sinister rich investor decides to add it to his own exquisite collection of novel poisons, going so far as to spike one of his prized ancient medieval demonic masks with the poison.
He then poses as a movie producer, hiring a bunch of film-students to shoot a low budget movie involving his mask as a prop, but secretly wants to use it as an experiment to see the chaos that the infection can cause.
Let me just say, I love you guys and your reviews are awesome. Best of love from Iraq.
I love Demons 2 and still have it on Storebought Widescreen VHS too.
Rare VHS
30:47 Is that Bob from _House by the Cemetery_ in the jeep with the shotgun?
My mom took me to see this in the movies. I thought it was pretty Damm good.
Your mom too? I'm serious
I suppose Italian horror is probably more entertaining when it's in that cinema environment, like _Avatar_ or _Avengers._
Yeah my parents took me as a kid a d it scared me krazy
Will they ever review Dead Alive?
You guys have to do The Last Dragon!
Such a fun and insane horror film, i love it! I think the best way to enjoy it is just to go with every ridiculous thing that happens in it, because obviously the filmmakers also didn't want to make super serious horror film.
When it comes to the zombie flicks of George Romero and Lucio Fulci I do not get why one must hate and trash one and love and extol the other and pit them against each other in an idiotic pissing match. I mean, DIG this, .. . I have no difficulty liking them BOTH!
I really enjoy this Film !! *DEMONS (1985)* is crazy fun !!!
the guy in the movie in the movie. the one who got his face cut is kano
Why was Ian expecting explanations?? It’s an Italian horror movie!
Iain desperately looking for answers in a movie about Demon possession cracked me the hell up. “Evil works in mysterious ways”
I first watched this movie this past summer, it was part of Joe Bob Briggs movie marathon. I really enjoyed this film. Fun stuff.
I am SO glad I don't need to be handheld and explained everything in a movie...
ESPECIALLY a horror movie.
You guys gonna review “Phantom of the Paradise”?
As a huge fan of traditional metal and the convergence of horror, fantasy and samurai motorcycles, I can't help but love this movie. My biggest disappointment in this movie was the tail ending but my second biggest disappointment was the fact that the theater employee with the red hair and green dress wasn't part of the conspiracy. I don't get how she can be an employee of this evil theater, look sultry, mysterious and vaguely evil and NOT be in on it. So I can't definitely sympathize with Iain's issues in regards to her.
The cinema ticket punch lady could be in Troll2.
Come on, this movie is such great entertainment and the fact that the plot is so vague & mysterious is what gives it its charm. It’s just so bizarre and the characters & dialogue are nuts. Love these Italian horror movies. The beyond, Zombie flesh eaters, city of the living dead, the house by the cemetery and of course demons 1 & 2 are the best! Also demons was not on the UK video nasties list (it came out after all that carry on) and I don’t recall any of the gore being cut. An entertaining review though!
Hi guys. Loved the review but do feel the need to correct you on one thing. This was never a video nasty. It never appeared on the list of 72 titles that fell under that classification (according to the Jake West documentary 'Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship & Videotape') and it did not appear on the Section 3 list either. There was a title called 'Night of the Demon' that was about a bigfoot (the infamous ripping of a bikers c*ck off scene) and the Jess Franco film 'The Demons', which did show on the Section 3 list. A small point for an otherwise excellent review.
One of the best films ever. Crazy fun
What a strange movie...I think I rather watch the 1988 Night of the Demons instead!
Now THAT'S a demon movie! Great review you guys!
Think about reviewing classic giant monster movies like those made by Toho and Mr. B.I.G.
The guy wearing the mask is....drumroll....Michele Soavi! Ring any bell?? 😊😊😊
Thank you so much guys ❤️
This is a clasic 80's horror, I don't think your supposed to look at Italian horrors with logic, as many like Suspiria have a dream nightmare like quality.
This is not the kind of movie where you think about the plot or much else; enjoy it for what it is and don’t take it seriously!
I never understood why the Usherette came off as so alluring and creepy when she's then no part of the demonic mayhem. Possibly just to be a red herring, but it took me off guard when she was panicking with the rest.
Iain took this movie way too seriously btw. It hurts watching him question and criticize E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G
There’s nothing to understand. This movie revels in being incoherent.
Absolutely love the pronunciation of cinema. Sinny-Mar
This means alot, thanks guys
looking for logic in a Italian horror ? good luck with that Ian !
Looking for logic in Demoni is like looking for historical accuracy in Inglourious Basterds lol
That was enjoyable! Thanks guys!
I like the ending and all the unexplained parts.
Or do wes cravens deadly friend movie
Oh o. Another film I’ve never heard of. Will have to see what this is all about
I love this movie..... I think that Demons effects do better on the old grainy VHS... the high def shows how bad some FX are. Still love it though...
Was this a user request?
Say what? The Boys are back on that bullshit, giving us quality content.
wasnt this movie named like evil dead 5 in some countries?
Please review Evil ED
Hi Ian and Gary, love the show lads and I want to know if you have ever watched The Last Starfighter and what you guys think.
Merry Christmas lads
The metal band Rigor Mortis did a great song based on this movie. The whole album is awesome if you're a fan of early death metal.
Since the holidays are near. Could you guys do a review for “Prancer”- 1989’ and “The Ice Harvest”- 2005’, please?
I would *love* you guys to review some Pratchett books! Discworld ftw!
Love your guys' content can we please get an It 2017 review or a review of The Hitcher 1986?
29:27 the Blind guy who became a Demon already broke out.
It's Maggggggic, lol. 🤭
On a serious note I’ve seen MRSA do that in real life multiple times
(MRSA is an antibiotic resistant infection that causes huge puss gushing sores) MRSA is one of the scariest things and almost everyone who catches it catches it in hospitals.
Word to the wise as soon as you’re good healthy enough to leave a hospital, leave! Don’t stick around for the extra painkillers cause you might catch MRSA
Where TF did u get those shirts. I need them they r amazing. Also, I love how u guys play off of each other and how u can have diff view points
Cheers guys! Awesome! 😁👊
I haven't seen this in years! Nice one guys
Love this film I’ve got part one and two you guys are the best keep up the good work 👍👍
Heh, I also remember this film being a lot better... That may have been the booze... ...and other substances...
My dude said kano from mk1 lmao
"Evil Dead meets Return of the Living Dead" Very nicely put.
I like the first two Demon movies, but part 2 has far bigger plot holes.
Please can you review Jeepers Creepers
@Off The Shelf Reviews watching you guys bicker totally made me wanna watch this film. 🎞 Awesome 👏 awesome 😎 Review!
Bloody Discworld reference, get in! 💪
35:35 He shows up as a different character in part 2.
Been waiting for ages For someone to do a review on this movie AWESOME
I remember demons being a hell of a lot worse, Ian. 👍
U guys need to watch "The Lift" - 1983.
Ah it's like Rec but in the 80s
I think every guy goes through the horror phase, I was about 14 when I became obsessed with horror and I think I've prob seen most of the good ones now, such a shame there are only a few of them that are actually good.
I love both these movies, nostalgia overload !!!
I Still wish they made a "proper" Demons 3 and so on , instead of the ogre (1 Demon only Wha?) and such.
@Dave Booshty I know right? The internet age is an even better medium for the unleashing of the demons. Can't think of where the characters could be trapped at though. Oh well, it ain't ever gonna happen anyway. I guess REC 1, 2 and 3 were good enough.
Remember the pimp comes back in #2?
Hahaha!! This review was awesome!! You guys are great!! 👍👍👍
Demons is cheesy schlock horror with over the top blood and gore. It's not supposed to be taken to seriously or tell a deep complicated story. It's a mindless popcorn horror film that you just sit back and enjoy the ride without thinking to much into it. It's not like they were making The Shining, Rosemary's Baby or The Exorcists. It's the horror equivalent of a super hero movie.
No, it's not. Super hero movies have stories and characters that are interesting.
@@kevinbremer3581 ROTFLMAO...no, they don't.
@@wolfpac1970 I must be watching the good ones, then.
@@kevinbremer3581 if you like them, that's you. Don't try to convince me they're anything more than cheesy, mindless popcorn movies. Like slasher movies they're all essentially the same. They just change a few things like the characters names and the locations. You really need to learn not to take others opinions so personally.
@@wolfpac1970 I feel so alone now.
I feel like I seen the remake or a movie really similar to this years ago; it was a direct video type of movie which was u guessed it not surprisingly good at all
Munchies... caaaaaaam'on
*I absolutely love the first one, watched it on youtube by accident one day. I watch it yearly on youtube. It has this dread, and unnerving effect when you watch the movie in the movie they are watching. Now I hate the second one, it is so stupid. A woman watches a movie and gets possessed by a demon. I can see a cursed mask causing demonic possession, especially if we can give the evil dead a pass. A recording can cause demons to come for people in a cabin.*
the difference is that the rules for the evil dead are actually established A.K.A. (Do) Not read the incantations.
Thank you. Just thank you.
