I agree with Gary, you see it's the emotional resonance of the 3rd story that really gets to you, the sadness of the gargoyle that he broke his word and destroyed their happy life together, the way she cradles their children in their statue form, the feelings between them undiminished by their transformation, they all still love one another, that never changes no matter what. The other stories are pretty stupid although I do like the kid winning in the end, you think "Yeah, attaboy!"
I just learned Rae Dawn Chong who plays Carola in the "Lover's Vow" segment is not only Tommy Chong's daughter but she was Squeak in "The Color Purple."
If I had to choose a favorite story from this film, it would definitely be Lover's Vow. It is based on the Japanese tale of Yuki-Onna, the Snow Woman, a common version of which can be found in The Kwaidan. I liked the gargoyle effects, and the sadness that was interwoven into this particular horror story. I also agree have to agree with Gary that, in the case of this trilogy, Tales from the Darkside saved the best for last.
In the evil cat sequence, you had the librarian from Ghostbusters, the assassin from Scarface, the great-grandfather from Christmas Vacation, and the Ghost of Christmas Past in Scrooged as the hit man. He might have missed the cat, but you guys missed calling out ALL of those great actors.
I feel like they chose the order of the tales in regards to production cost. The mummy looked super cheap, and although the effects in the second one were fun, they were pretty bad. Then you got the animatronic gargoyle AND that transformation at the end!!
I definitely think the third story is the best. The other two were okay but kind of goofy. The third story had way more of an emotional impact on me when I first saw it. I really felt genuinely sad for him at the end
11:52 If you still need reminding of what this actor has also been in, I can tell you that this isn’t the only anthology series he’s been in. He was the main character in an episode of _Tales from the Crypt_ called “The Switch”, which was directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The final storie's ending always made little sense to me. All he did was reveal the secret to the same gargoyle creature that he made the promise too. Its not like he revealed the secret to whole world or to his other friends, but she still kills him! I guess it was supposed to be a vow and bond of love.
Good to see u guys back! Happy New Years! Eating my chicken nuggets & pomegranate juice chillen on the couch enjoying this video. Keep doing your thing!
I remember William Hickey as Rudolf Smuntz, the old man who owned the string factory in Mousehunt, and the hitman? David Johannsen from The New York Dolls (and Scrooged!) I also noticed that one of the old guy's family was Alice Drummond, who played the librarian from the original Ghostbusters, as well as Dan Marino's mum from Ace Ventura! To be honest, there's loads of recognisable actors in TFTD
I agree with Gary that the third tale was the best. That man struggling to keep that secret fills the story with tension. The ending is heartbreaking. 😱😱😱
Maybe those stories are all full of holes because the boy made them up? That's why the book is blank. He's trying to escape and his making up horror stories to distract The Witch?
The gargoyle one is actually based on a japanese ghost story. There's an anthology called Kwaidan that has that story in it. I remember it so well because I watched kwaidan like a week before I watched this movie
Oh my god, this movie absolutely TERRIFIED me as a kid. Only saw it once, but it stuck with me. The Cat segment was the one that really messed me up a particularly because that was around the time our family cat had passed away. So it was just like trauma heaped onto trauma. Even watching your guys review this for the first time I felt like I was going through a sort of ptsd or something! Funny thing, I'm pretty sure the Gargoyles segment was the only story that DIDN'T traumatise me, simply because it was a tragic love story that I'd never seen before.
Yes!! Another review. I used to watch the TV show back in the day with my mom on Saturday nights. There were a few anthology horror shows out. Monsters. The New Twilight Zone. Friday the 13th The Series. etc...
The gargoyle segment is actually based off a Japanese ghost story. In the story a villager rests in a hut with his friend, who is then killed by this ice spirit who then tells the villager that if he tells anyone what he saw she'll show up and kill him. The story in both is pretty much the same , but the one major difference is that in the story the spirit lets the man live in the end out of love for the kids.
I'm with Gary. The third is the best story. Not gonna' lie, the second is the most visually impressive though. They're both equally strong, just in different ways
true story, when I was about 10 years old, the neighbor's cat attacked me face-hugger style as seen in 'The Cat from Hell'. It obviously didn't kill me but left some gnarly scratches on the side of my head. It's basically a pounce move, lol
Holy shit guys the last tale !!!!!!!!!!!!! i seen it years ago and could not think for the life where i had seen it as i wanted to watch it again i searched all the scary series episodes like outer limit twilight zone and all shows like that and now i found it HUZZAZAR !!!!!!!
Gary and Iain, did y’all miss that the butler in Cat from Hell is HECTOR SALAMANCA from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul??? Gary, I know you’re a fan.
I remember watching this and the cat in the guys throat is the thing that sticks. But I don't remember the kid reading the tales. I get the last story mixed up with another tale starring Billy Zane where a cop gets a whole punched through his head...
The Gargoyle story the most remembered story and the transformation in the twist was very good CGI would have ruined that scene but the segment had character development the guy wasn't suppose to acknowledge anything about the Gargoyle moral of the story is TRUST.
For me a nice (custom) zombie anthology to binge with friend is Tom Savinni's Night of the Living Dead (The remake to George A. Romero's Night of the living dead) Dawn/Day of the dead (George A.Romero's aka the originals...the remakes sucked hard especially day) Finally Land of the dead by George A Romero....why because it's got some pretty funny and entertaining B movie quality. Possible bonus of either Shaun of the Dead, Road of the Dead, or (if you want to break the of the dead connection) I suppose ZombieLand. PS do you know that there is a zombie film with Dolph Lundgren fighting back to back with a giant robot....I believe it was called Zombie vs Robot or something like that.
If you haven't already, you have to watch QuickSilver Highway with Matt Frewer and Christopher Lloyd from Stephen King and Clive Baker. It is two tales here but wow they are quite something :O)
I agree with everyone who rated the third tale best. I saw this film when I was a kid and the emotion of those characters and the excellent monster effects made it stick in my mind ever since. That the guy was James Remar who I also enjoyed in The Warriors mDe it seem more tragic to me too (like this was a nice non-rapey ajax and gets killed). I never guessed she was the gargoyle. I had no reason to. And the kids turning too. Never really liked Cat From Hell. I felt the film dragged in that bit. Really disliked that segment.
You might like Arabian Nights. The narrator is facing execution but she keeps buying time by telling story after story. Anyway, good video. I believe all three - Creepshow 1 & 2, plus this - have not aged well, but they have one or two fun stories.
To me lovers vow is the weakest bc outside the very beginning and very end there's really no horror. It's a love story with a monster tagged on. And the end there's really NO REASON for him to tell Carala
Strong loyal fan base, we can't get enough of you guys.
Feel like their old friends. Lol.
I love this movie! The last story, “Lover’s Vow”, was SO depressing...
Great too see another video from you guys. Am I right everyone!?
11:52 If you still need reminding of what this actor has also been in, I can tell you that this isn’t the only anthology series he’s been in. He was the main character in an episode of _Tales from the Crypt_ called “The Switch”, which was directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Should think about reviewing "tales from the Hood"
I think the final story is the best. I will never forget that ending.
Likewise.
_“YOU _*_PROMISED_*_ YOU’D NEVER TELL!”_
James Remar is great as always, very solid character actor for 40 years now, going all the way back to the Warriors.
I have such nostalgia for the TV series theme 😀 Also the best part of Creepshow was a zombie exclaiming " I want my cake!"
The final storie's ending always made little sense to me. All he did was reveal the secret to the same gargoyle creature that he made the promise too. Its not like he revealed the secret to whole world or to his other friends, but she still kills him! I guess it was supposed to be a vow and bond of love.
I know what you mean-her killing him doesn’t make much sense.
Good to see u guys back! Happy New Years! Eating my chicken nuggets & pomegranate juice chillen on the couch enjoying this video. Keep doing your thing!

Speaking of Ace Ventura, isn't the butler Mr. Shickadance, Ace's landlord?
@@williamhiers1280 Mark Margolis, who's best known as Hector Salamanca on "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul".
Glad to see you back guys! Definitely hope you do Videodrome!!!
Great way to start the new year boys. You were missed over the holiday break! Look forward to gaming Friday and your next podcast!
Speaking of anthology films...please review Trick 'r Treat. I love that movie and would love to hear your thoughts.
Jill Last Another great anthology film I’d love the guys to review is “From a Whisper to a Scream” also known as “The Offspring”.
I agree! Trick r treat was so beyond fun!
The cat down the mouth scene was insane! I personally loved this movie. The format worked well and it was a fun gory romp.
Good review. You guys should do “Lord of Illusion” or “Remo Williams” next. Keep em coming!
I agree with Gary that the third tale was the best. That man struggling to keep that secret fills the story with tension. The ending is heartbreaking. 😱😱😱
Awesome review as always guys and Ian The guy in the wheelchair William hickey is Andre Toulon from the first puppet master as well
Did you guys ever see the willies 1990 lol
Thanks Guys -great as always, all the very best for 2018 !
My 2nd favorite anthology film behind Creepshow. I also love Creepshow 2, Tales From The Hood, and Trilogy Of Terror.
Happy new year guys! I missed you guys last week! Great review as always! :D
My personal favorite horror anthology film was Necronomicon, which adapted 3 Lovecraft stories and starred Jeffrey Combs as the author himself.
I love this flick! The third story was the best!
Oh my god, this movie absolutely TERRIFIED me as a kid. Only saw it once, but it stuck with me. The Cat segment was the one that really messed me up a particularly because that was around the time our family cat had passed away. So it was just like trauma heaped onto trauma. Yes!! Another review. I used to watch the TV show back in the day with my mom on Saturday nights. There were a few anthology horror shows out. Monsters. The New Twilight Zone. Friday the 13th The Series. etc...
How about “Twilight Zone: The Movie”?
11:50
I remember William Hickey most from his role as “Lewis” in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, with Chevy Chase.
He was also the old man who owned the string factory in Mousehunt
The gargoyle segment is actually based off a Japanese ghost story. In the story a villager rests in a hut with his friend, who is then killed by this ice spirit who then tells the villager that if he tells anyone what he saw she'll show up and kill him. Well done lads! You're doing the lords work! I'll be recommending 'I saw the Devil' on the patreon soon! Woo
Happy new year Guys, great video and thanks for posting. :)
I'm with Gary. The third is the best story. Not gonna' lie, the second is the most visually impressive though. They're both equally strong, just in different ways

Tales of Halloween is a good (funny) recent anthology horror movie and has a good few cameos in it if you guys haven't seen it!
Debbie Harri . . .
Goddamn! 😳
The cat going down his throat freaked me the fuck out as a kid holy shit
Holy shit guys the last tale !!!!!!!!!!!!! i seen it years ago and could not think for the life where i had seen it as i wanted to watch it again i searched all the scary series episodes like outer limit twilight zone and all shows like that and now i found it HUZZAZAR !!!!!!!
Gary and Iain, did y’all miss that the butler in Cat from Hell is HECTOR SALAMANCA from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul??? Gary, I know you’re a fan.
I saw this when I was too young. The gargoyle transformation terrified me.
The last story is based on Japanese folklore, a yokai or spirit named Yuki-onna.
I recognised Timmy from the movie Pulse where he explains how one of the neighbours died to the nee kid.
I agree with Gary the last one is the best, by far in fact! It also has roots in mythology, Japanese one in the very least.
I remember watching this and the cat in the guys throat is the thing that sticks. But I don't remember the kid reading the tales. I get the last story mixed up with another tale starring Billy Zane where a cop gets a whole punched through his head...
The one with Billy Zane might be Demon Knight...
Gentlemen, thanks for making my long commute easier to endure. Please... PLEASE consider covering George Romero's Dead series.
Loved this when I was a kid, great review guys.
The Gargoyle story the most remembered story and the transformation in the twist was very good CGI would have ruined that scene but the segment had character development the guy wasn't suppose to acknowledge anything about the Gargoyle moral of the story is TRUST.

Southbound is another cool recent addition to horror anthologies
Lovers Vow is so Haunting and unsettling. Predictable though but of the 3 its the one that stays with me the most
The last tale is the one I remember after decades. I thought it was great.
12:03 Christmas Vacation , puppetmaster etc
If you haven't already, you have to watch QuickSilver Highway with Matt Frewer and Christopher Lloyd from Stephen King and Clive Baker. It is two tales here but wow they are quite something :O)
3:00 That's not Hammer, it's Amicus!
I agree with everyone who rated the third tale best. I saw this film when I was a kid and the emotion of those characters and the excellent monster effects made it stick in my mind ever since. "Lot 249 was a Conan Doyle story.
damn love you reviewed this, I completely forgot about this movie. Love Creepshow 2 so this got lost but gonna watch it after this review is over.
You guys are awesome. Thanks for reviewing this one
You might like Arabian Nights. The narrator is facing execution but she keeps buying time by telling story after story. Anyway, good video. I believe all three - Creepshow 1 & 2, plus this - have not aged well, but they have one or two fun stories.
I don’t know if it’s the hair but Debbie’s head looks a little too big for her body. She also reminds me of the fairy godmother in Shrek 2.
You know William Hickey from Puppetmaster movies!
Loved this flick. It had a good wrap around
To me lovers vow is the weakest bc outside the very beginning and very end there's really no horror. It's a love story with a monster tagged on. And the end there's really NO REASON for him to tell Carala
Guys, you should do original Dawn of the Dead review. Great movie.
I agree with Gary. The third story was the better of the three.
I like the last story the best, they were all good though.
You gusy should do TALES FROM THE CRYPT presents DEMON KNIGHT
Have you guys ever seen Strange Frequency?
hey guys big fan here review R.O.T.O.R.[1987-88]
The gargoyle......marries this guy and remains married to him for a
decade, bears his children, and nobody was committed over this story?
you should watch john carpenters body bags
Love this movie! Can't wait to see what you have to say about it!
Well I think Christian Slayter did look like he was in college but I think it might have been the only one.

The ABC's of Death are ok, but VHS 1 and 2 are really good. Just don't watch the 3rd VHS. It is TERRIBLE!
👍🏿
Debbie Harry playing Hilary Clinton.pmsl
These stories were horrible.
