I am a 29 year old young man living in Korea. I'd like to call you teacher. Recently, I have become interested in pottery, so I am learning from a local teacher. Everything else is being studied online, and your feedback on videos and Instagram seems to help me and water the flower of my dream. I hope these guides will continue and I will continue to watch and like them. I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you. I think there will be some awkward sentences because I use a translator. I will also study English hard. Thank you.
Hi Florian - as a beginning potter I find your videos absolutely excellent as the level of detail is exactly what a beginner needs!! The extent of your generosity with sharing your skills and time is inspiring - a million trillion thanks 😊
I hated pulling, debated just getting a extruder. But after watching this and other videos of yours, I was able to not only get it figured out, but also do it much faster. Thanks for your informative and well done videos!
Simon Leach has a wonderful video on pulling handles too. I vastly prefer hand pulled handles. I like to see the signs that it’s hand-made object. I also have a jig that I made to get the curve just right and it accounts for shrinkage too. I’d recommend making one if you’re having trouble getting your handles just right.
I love your videos. Could you teach how to make identical pots or mugs? Clearly it's one if your best amazing strength. Also, don't you get bired throwing the same shape?
I’ve heard that pulling the clay for the handles aligns the clay particles to make it stronger, which is always useful when making something breakable.
Hello Florian, thank you for the videos, pretty sure I watched everything, some multiple times. When I tried pulling so wet right on the cup, they always sag drastically after attaching them. I was wondering if you had any tips, perhaps the clay you use has more grog and body.
Excuse me Florian, regarding your Spinner gifted to you from Richard Carter. Have you considered or do you think it would be possible to create an 'offest' spinner that still spun concentrically with in a range of say 5mm? What I am suggesting is even if you didn't put it in the precise centre, it would still be centred and not require centring. I feel like such an object could save valuable seconds that would really add up when making large batches of repeated shapes. Just a thought and would love to know what you or your community thought.
Absolutely beautiful video, Florian... I have failed with this technique so many times and this video is really clear in showing how to do it... I am heading to handle my mugs now! (Edit) How exactly did you make your touchmark/makers mark? Was it sculpted or carved? Or is it something else :D
Thank you Martin, it's a tricky technique and it really took me some real trial and error until I started to get handles that I really liked. It's like throwing I guess, or anything for that matter, just takes some persistence, but it's worth it for the natural, flowing handles that can be made. Good luck with them!
has anyone ever thought while he's making these cups and the final product is shown you say, "Hey that's my cup he made right there!" lol i dont know but anyways keep up the great work.
Be persistent! Make lots. Don't be precious about the pots you make at the start, as you'll only get better as time goes by, especially at the start. Good luck and thanks for watching as always, Austin.
Absolutely love watching all your videos! Which wood do you use to dry your stuff? And for trimming, the Chuck that you used, is it like a hollow structure?

Besides the look, the pulling process aligns the clay particles, making the handle stronger.

Really enjoyed your handle pulling video you make it look so effortless

The chucks are solid
As always watching you work is enriching, thank you sharing your knowledge every week.
I have a question, what's the height of those 200 grams cup?
Thank you very much for always taking your time to watch, they're long videos! So I appreciate it. The cups are thrown to 9.3cm tall by 9cm wide.
Could we know the type of clay you are using?
👍👍👍
How to maid it? 🤔
I would like to purchase a couple of the chucks that are used in your video. can you send me Richard Carter's contact info?
For next week watch this video.
Where's clay please tell me
