Making a Drippy Slip Mug from start to finish

  • Making a medium mug, and using multicoloured slip (liquid clay) to create a flowing surface design.
    The colours used here are the light sandy colour of the clay, and layered blues to create a beach effect, but this will work with other colours of slip and glaze
    The slip is made from the clay trimmings, watered down and passed through a sieve to create a thick smooth liquid. This is then coloured and sucked into a syringe in layers, so creates a marbled coloured banding when it's applied to the surface of the mug. The mug is then tapped on the wheel to get the thick slip to flow down in waves. The slip is also used to stick the handle in place. Once dry it returns to solid clay, fusing permanently with the clay of the body.
    The laser level is used to make sure the handle is vertical before sticking it as it can't easily be adjusted once it's placed.
    The glazes used are Heath A2V Ivory to add white around the rim, 20x5 clear on the outside to make the slip glossy and brighten the colours, and Floating Blue on the inside to complete the ocean theme.
    The tool used to dip the mug in the glaze is a car dent puller. Check out my other videos for more info on how I glaze work, including how I use the dent puller.

    • @OldForgeCreations
      @OldForgeCreations  Год назад +1

      It would be! Some of my designs involve multiple syringes, but leaving it for too long will allow the clay wall to soften too much, so stopping and refilling would be a bad option compared to having several ready. I find that my mugs need 25-45ml of slip, so I generally use a 50ml syringe.
