(Sunex comment in reply👇) I forgot to mention that I did take dimensions before and after use. Just to see if the sockets would stretch or deform at all. I found no stretch or distortion to the hex end. There was a bit of damage to the drive end but that is from the abuse I put the socket through. I feel like that is normal for Cheaper sockets. Especially when they are abused like this. Overall I wouldn't be scared to buy them.

@SUNEXTools77 my matco rep gave me a " deal" on the torx 1/2" impact sockets during the 2020, 2021 supply chain shortage when he couldn't get a t50 (55?) In a reasonable time for warranty. I want to like non tool truck stuff but every torx I've tried to give a chance was too soft and twisted off.

In case you missed it sunex, you got called out for being deceitful and for bad business practice in this video, but you thanked him and commented on the roll stamping and laser etching?? Usually it's corner to corner dimensions and beginning of radius to beginning of radius on the other side that determines how hard they are to fit on an anvil not the flat side to flat side, but you may have already measured that. I don't think anyone would give it a 2nd thought is SUNEX introduced all new model numbers for the new COO, heck even if the old ones were eventually discontinued. That's still pretty straight up. Using the same set and part numbers is a bait and switch no matter how you look at it, a poorly done magic trick
I feel like they are just barely out of square or the initial radius ramp is off just a bit. I struggled getting a real accurate measurement. When you look at them they look like they have more of radius compared to the Taiwan ones. I agree, Sunex should’ve done a whole new part number or even bring a new series. Kinda like Snap-on has with blue point. Them being shady is what really makes me angry. I understand companies move manufacturing. That’s part of the game. But doing it quietly and trying to pull a bait and switch is just not right.

Yes!!! Another video on this!! As far as i know, their whole impact socket line is being moved to China. Their universals, 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" impact line, their hex, torx, triple square, magnetic sockets, EVERYTHING!! I'm so happy you put out a 2nd video. Hell, I'm happy you put out the 1st because it was the only one to ever recognize and bring it to light. Like i mentioned previously, they've been like this for nearly a year now. I just want to say thank you and keep the content coming man. I don't think you realize how well you're doing so far. You've definitely got a knack for this and you relay the information well.
The problem is now there is nothing to differentiate Sunex between them and the other thousand brands on Amazon. Their wrenches have always been trash, some of those are now made in China or India. You might as well go to harbor freight. Sunex killed the only reason for their existence!
Have a long time friend of mine who owns a repair shop. He was doing a transmission on a HD Dodge van. He broke his Snap On and Mac impact sockets on something. I was finished with my car, and as I was leaving, he asked to borrow my Sunex (Taiwan made). Next time I went to the shop, he handed me my socket and told me "You will never break that socket." That set is over 30 years old, and to this day, I've lost one or two, but never broke one.
I love my Taiwan ones. I never broke any of my 1/2” drives. I have broke a handful 3/8” drives though. But I’m not upset about it. I truly believe the old ones are great especially for the price

Also Tekton has a easy warranty process according to everything I've heard. Sunex really screwed up not being open and honest about this. Hope which ever brand you chose works well for you.

I just picked up the Master Set during Black Friday and found myself wondering, “Where’s the Taiwan stamp?” I completely agree with your sentiment about them pulling a fast one on us. As I watched, I found myself hoping these would fail too. Sucks because, you're left asking yourself what means more -- the value or the integrity of the product.

If they didn't go about the changeover the way they did, i wouldn't hate on them so bad. I feel like they've lied and cheated us honestly. So shady! They haven't even attempted to depict or describe these new sockets properly. They still depict and describe their Taiwanese made sockets. They lied. Point, blank, period. I'd rather go capri, tekton, or grey pneumatic because they are Taiwanese made. Taiwanese made tools are better at the end on the day and sunex is full of it!!
Completely agree. They know people's perception of Chinese made tools are lackluster and they will lose a lot of their following. I just can't believe that they still haven't came out about the move. Wish some bigger channels would talk about this and get this out more. A lot of people buy Sunex and a lot of people have no idea. I'll give it to Sunex. They are doing a great job at keeping this hush hush.
That crazy, I did the same thing to my GW 120's last week, but I used Dumodetech ProX Freehub oil for mountainbike hubs. Much thinner, low friction, lightweight oil. Night and day difference! I also trimmed the little springs that put tension on the pawls just the tiniest bit, maybe one coil or 1mm max. It was even better. The ratchet now has a Super light backdrag, much quiter, and zero skip or slip. You just have to be super careful with that cut. There's a very fine line between perfect and Fckd lol

Been using Sunex sockets for a couple years now as a professional mechanic. They are the Taiwan version and have held up very well. They do just as well as my Snapon set . Sad to know they've gone Chinese. Might have to switch brands for future purchases.
I love my Taiwan made Sunex. I think I’ve had my oldest set for almost 10 years. They’ve held up great. I have broken a handful but that’s the game. Sad times for Sunex fans
I bought a set of Sunex metric wrenches several years ago. I work on over the road trucks and trailers. Worse set of wrenches at the price I paid. Soon as my Snap On guy showed up. I got a set off of him. I'd rather cry over a price then not being able to finish a job over a wrench. If you are looking at Sunex, just buy Pittsburg from Harbor Freight. Same quality for a lower price.
i have both the new sunex and capri impact sockets. the sidewalls of the sunex are definitely thinner and the weight is a little bit lighter. let’s see how both hold up. so far capri seems better quality
Thanks for the update. The fact that Sunex isn't really owning up to the change really rubs me the wrong way. They could at least do the normal corpo marketing BS speal and talk about the advantages this change brings. The fact that they are just silently changing, without acknowledging it tells me they can't be trusted. I also wanted to say you're putting out really great video's. I know what it takes to do all the work behind the scenes and I'm impressed with the effort you put in.
After using the sockets I'm a lot less angry. But I still can't believe that they are hiding that they moved. Like you said they can't be trusted. Thanks for the encouraging words. It takes way more effort and time than I initially thought. Also didn't realize how hard it is to talk to a camera.
It takes me a couple months to get stuff replaced. I know this ain't the point but if I really need a certain socket I broke I end up buying an individual one. That way the wait for the warranty ain't too big of a deal.
I must be the most unlucky guy when it comes to warranty. It’s been months and I still haven’t received my sockets. Everyone says it’s so quick. I think the quickest I’ve received them was 2 months. I’ve warrantied probably 15 sockets.

Why on earth would they announce it to everyone? They definitely need to have the info available, it should be right on the packaging and website. But of course a massive ad campaign is going to hurt them. The quality could be the same.
Some of these tool companies have a company employee at the Chinese factory to keep an eye on the Chinese works and to insure they are making quality tools. The problem is once the company inspector leaves for the day. The Chinese will open the factory for the night and make black market tools and sell them on the side.
Sunex isn't the only tool manufacturer that has shifted production to China without saying a word. Apex Tools, the company behind Gearwrench, Husky and Duralast, have been shifting production to China for quite some time now. Mid tier Taiwanese tools have been regarded as decent tools at a reasonable price. China has always been thought of as a producer of cheap throwaway junk, which most of the Chinese products sold today are. No matter which retail store you enter, the shelves are full of products that say "Made In China". China has stolen our plans and inventions and have been making cheap knockoffs for years. I'm sick and tired of seeing "Made In China" on the products that I buy. Unfortunately in this current economy, and the crazy prices of US made tools, I just can't afford to buy the likes of Snap-on, Mac, Matco and Cornwell. Politics aside, there are reasons why tool production is being shifted to China. The number 1 reason is profit. China will produce the products cheaper than Taiwan. China will manufacture product to the standards specified. From cheap right up to good and durable. If Sunex continued to use Taiwan they would have to raise prices. Consumers will instantly complain of constantly rising prices. Though China will produce the tools at a lower cost to Sunex , and hopefully the same standard, the fat cats at Sunex aren't going to lower prices. This arrangement still affords the fat cats at the top their bonuses, company paid benefits and whatever else top management experiences. They sure as hell aren't going to tighten their belts. It amounts to the "shrinkflation" that has been going on. The price of certain food products remained the same, however, the amount you are getting has decreased. You don't realize this at first glance because you got your favorite candy bar or bag of chips. As time goes on you suddenly notice that the package somehow looks smaller than you remember and the amount you're getting is less. They pulled a fast one on you. People first and foremost focused on the cost of goods. Purchases are based on the amount of money you have in your wallet. Sunex pulled a fast one by quietly changing the country of manufacture. At least they kept the price the same. How good the Chinese manufactured sockets will be only time and usage will tell.
Very well put. I hate the Made in China on everything too but I can't afford to avoid them products either. I was fortunate enough to buy a lot of my tools over a long period of time and most of them I've had for years. And most of my quality tools were a heck of a lot cheaper ten years ago let alone five compared to now. I just checked on getting another Snap-on Flex Ratchet and it has doubled since I bought my last one. My wages sure haven't doubled since then. Just the way she goes I guess
China is all over our stores yet pays such a little tariff for importing.. American based companies should be penalized for this behavior even if it increases the cost of tools and goods.. most of this Chinese stuff is too low quality to even justify buying. You can thank the EPA for all these issues & why the US isn't manufacturing anything. Not to mention the insane cost to repair the computer system on wheels you call a car.
Every Sunex tool Ive ever bought didnt last one job. They did send a replacement after 9-10 months, but it was too late. Will never waste money on them again.
@@mlacher100 46mm combo wrench tacoed on first Cat D11 track pad bolt. And 19mm 3/4 drive hex socket rounded like butter on first ripper tooth pin. I heard lots of good things. Did not exspect failure on first bolt. The fasteners were not tight.
@nathankisner8332 That's pretty heavy duty stuff. Im just using them for tightening up spud bolts ln screw convayors and motor gearbox applications. Just talking just impact sockets, never used one of there wrenches
What's really messed up is Matco still has USA made sockets(chrome for sure) they just don't advertise them at all but your Matco dealer sure can still order them
wasn't too happy when I received the china pieces via warranty but I mean they're impact sockets... ill stick with them, but knowing what we know know now (hindsight is 20/20) id prolly go tekton/grey pneumatic way back when I first got em. but im same as you, they're still pretty good, but im done with sunex moving forward.
Most but not all Chinese manufacturing is inferior, it's been proven. It is very well known that Chinese manufacturers, love to skimp here and there to make more money on products that are not of the same quality. I worked for manufacturers, and we would have products made in China, so I'm telling you firsthand that all manufacturers made in China have to hire full-time people to watch them.
Couldn’t agree more. I also work in manufacturing and we have plants in China. And the products that come out of there are completely inferior. And the stories that you hear are comical as long as you’re not the one buying that product.
Another sad situation. I've bought some of their adapters, swivels, and extentions. But, I won't buy anything tool-wise from China, unless there's not another affordable choice. I trust Taiwans' steel quality and heat treatment more, and their quality control is better, just in my experience. I usually prefer a more shallow broach depth, but as long as it's not running down the entire depth of the socket, I usually don't notice much of a difference. It really only matters to me when I'm trying to use the socket to start threading the nut or bolt back on. It could even be the case that there's not much difference, I just don't like the thought of any of my money funding the CCP in any capacity. Sometimes you can't help but buy Chinese made goods, I just try to avoid doing so when I have a choice.
I completely agree. I haven’t had much of any luck when it comes to Chinese hand tools. I always feel like I struggle not having enough broach than too much. But I also rarely use a socket especially a deep for starting nuts. Thank you for watching and thanks for your input.
I warranty my Matco adv Taiwan socket and got a china adv socket. 👎 I guess the rumors are true, sunex makes Matco adv. I was thinking gp was rebranding their sockets.
Good to know who makes them I guess. The whole warranty issue with getting Chineses sockets really gets my goat but a guy has to get his broken tools replaced.
@@COBRO98 More and more of it is moving over. As far as their main drive tools I believe a lot of them are still made here. You have to pay attention when purchasing. A lot of vendors use old photos
@@COBRO98 no, proto is owned by Stanley Black and Decker so some stuff is rebranded from Facom, usag, Mac made in various factories throughout the world(France, Italy, Spain, Taiwan) but sockets, ratchets, wrenches are made here in America
Good to hear. It seems like most of the single sockets people are receiving are still Taiwan especially SAE ones. I also received Taiwan ones. I assume that is due to them still having large supplies. Also people are still getting SAE master sets made in Taiwan too. I don't know if its just old stock or what. Like I said when I called them they wouldn't give me a straight answer.

I don't think they're torx bits are very good. I probably broke 8 T-50's. I've broke a few deep 9/16 3/8" also. I get sockets will break but the torx's definitely break a lot more than what I would say is normal.
Any news about Tekton? Hopefully they will stay with Taiwan. I'm a tool snob so I have mostly Japanese made stuff, but I do have two Tekton impact sets (3/8" & 1/2") and they are good quality and made in Taiwan.
I assume Tekton will stay in Taiwan as long as they possibly can. They seem to be a tool company ran by people that actually use tools. No tool guys want Chinese made tools.
The fact they didn’t feel like they should say something about it is what makes me feel like they’re just trying to pull a fast one on the customers. Dishonesty isn’t a good look for any business.

I bought a Sunex 3/4" SAE deep impact socket in 3/4" drive and the broaching was unacceptable. It only went like a half an inch deep. I exchanged it and same thing. The broaching was like half an inch for a deep socket. It looks like an extended shallow socket. Never buying from Sunex again.
I agree. I feel like I beat on em more than one would in a year let alone a 6 months. With that said I have been hearing bad feedback about their 12 points. I personally wouldn’t buy any Sunex but if they are all you can afford they probably won’t be too bad
I got a Chinese impact today in the mail from Sunex thinking it would be from Taiwan and it looks very different from the Chinese impacts that you have. My lazer etching is in a big square and the roll stamping is nearly impossible to see. I got a returnless refund from Amazon since the photo said made in Taiwan. Very deceiving.

I just went back on Amazon to look at the description for the COO. Metric set said China, SAE set had Taiwan. When I received the package today. Metric was Taiwan and SAE was China. Well that's fd. I got the Taiwan sets years ago....no more for me. I got 2 sets of 1/2. 3/8 master. Low profiles 3/8 and 1/2. Ratchets. Man what a fd up deal they did.
Sunex has handled the whole thing so poorly. I just hope people see this and can make a more informed decision when purchasing. I’m not saying don’t buy them. But I’m done with them for now.

I'm not against Chinese tools, but the price tage ant reflecting the cost saving they pocketing. There are so many Chinese brands on Amazon for a fraction of the price, probably made at the same build house sunex is now using. If you know how supply chains work you should understand how fd up sunex is for using cheeper build house without passing on savings to customers.

That's where I'm at. I still have a bunch of old craftsman that I've never warrantied in in hopes that one day they will come back. And they almost/sort a did for a second.
I had to warranty a 5” 3/8 impact wobble extension recently but I did somewhat abuse it. Tried to to angle torque a wheel bearing with the hub still on the car (the bolts go in from the inside) awkward angle, awkward set up and it snapped on the wobble end. Sunex didn’t even ask for a receipt, a week later FedEx delivered a new one
I’ve never had them turn down a warranty claim. My only complaint is it’s takes months for me to get replacements. I’ve probably warrantied 15 sockets and never had them get to my door within a month.
The sunex Taiwan made have smooth interior on the hex side almost cold formed finish the chinese made sunex have a very grainy socket hex wall more like hot forged or just lousy dies 😂 but neither here nor their i wont buy chinese shit and matco adv
Matco adv stuff now coming through China wonder about cornwell blue power aswell because they source their tools from professional tool products the private sales division private label of tools for other companies of the same people who own sunex which it the retail division both located at travelers rest SC this will be interesting aswell because ptp supplies mac import bit sockets aswell as cornwell wonder if all this will go china too😢
Man, thats disheartening i was looking at buying a 3/8 and 1/2" set for my work truck because i love the old taiwanese made sunex sockets ive had for a decade in my shop.
Ya it sucks. I’ve been a big advocate for them for damn near ten years. Most of my buddies have Sunex cause of my praise. Now they go and do this. The worst part is they’re not honest about it
I do not want any of my money going to China. Period. I accept its literally impossible to avoid Chinese goods totally, but i go out of my way trying to not fund the CCP.

Usually it's corner to corner dimensions and beginning of radius to beginning of radius on the other side that determines how hard they are to fit on an anvil not the flat side to flat side, but you may have already measured that. I don't think anyone would give it a 2nd thought is SUNEX introduced all new model numbers for the new COO, heck even if the old ones were eventually discontinued. That's still pretty straight up. Using the same set and part numbers is a bait and switch no matter how you look at it, a poorly done magic trick
I feel like they are just barely out of square or the initial radius ramp is off just a bit. I struggled getting a real accurate measurement. When you look at them they look like they have more of radius compared to the Taiwan ones.
I agree, Sunex should’ve done a whole new part number or even bring a new series. Kinda like Snap-on has with blue point. Them being shady is what really makes me angry. I understand companies move manufacturing. That’s part of the game. But doing it quietly and trying to pull a bait and switch is just not right.

Yes!!! Another video on this!! As far as i know, their whole impact socket line is being moved to China. Their universals, 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" impact line, their hex, torx, triple square, magnetic sockets, EVERYTHING!! I'm so happy you put out a 2nd video. Hell, I'm happy you put out the 1st because it was the only one to ever recognize and bring it to light. Like i mentioned previously, they've been like this for nearly a year now. I just want to say thank you and keep the content coming man. I don't think you realize how well you're doing so far. You've definitely got a knack for this and you relay the information well.

The problem is now there is nothing to differentiate Sunex between them and the other thousand brands on Amazon.
Their wrenches have always been trash, some of those are now made in China or India. You might as well go to harbor freight.

Have a long time friend of mine who owns a repair shop. He was doing a transmission on a HD Dodge van. He broke his Snap On and Mac impact sockets on something. I was finished with my car, and as I was leaving, he asked to borrow my Sunex (Taiwan made). Next time I went to the shop, he handed me my socket and told me "You will never break that socket." That set is over 30 years old, and to this day, I've lost one or two, but never broke one.
I love my Taiwan ones. I never broke any of my 1/2” drives. I have broke a handful 3/8” drives though. But I’m not upset about it. I truly believe the old ones are great especially for the price
Thanks for the in depth review of the new sockets. I think I'm still gonna pick Tekton or Capri over the Sunex, purely because of the way Sunex seems to hide the changeover from Taiwanese to Chinese production

Also Tekton has a easy warranty process according to everything I've heard. Sunex really screwed up not being open and honest about this. Hope which ever brand you chose works well for you.

If they didn't go about the changeover the way they did, i wouldn't hate on them so bad. I feel like they've lied and cheated us honestly. So shady! They haven't even attempted to depict or describe these new sockets properly. They still depict and describe their Taiwanese made sockets. They lied. Point, blank, period. I'd rather go capri, tekton, or grey pneumatic because they are Taiwanese made. Taiwanese made tools are better at the end on the day and sunex is full of it!!
Completely agree. They know people's perception of Chinese made tools are lackluster and they will lose a lot of their following. I just can't believe that they still haven't came out about the move. Wish some bigger channels would talk about this and get this out more. A lot of people buy Sunex and a lot of people have no idea. I'll give it to Sunex. They are doing a great job at keeping this hush hush.
That crazy, I did the same thing to my GW 120's last week, but I used Dumodetech ProX Freehub oil for mountainbike hubs. Much thinner, low friction, lightweight oil. Night and day difference! I also trimmed the little springs that put tension on the pawls just the tiniest bit, maybe one coil or 1mm max. It was even better. The ratchet now has a Super light backdrag, much quiter, and zero skip or slip. You just have to be super careful with that cut. There's a very fine line between perfect and Fckd lol

Been using Sunex sockets for a couple years now as a professional mechanic. They are the Taiwan version and have held up very well. They do just as well as my Snapon set . Sad to know they've gone Chinese. Might have to switch brands for future purchases.
I love my Taiwan made Sunex. I think I’ve had my oldest set for almost 10 years. They’ve held up great. I have broken a handful but that’s the game. Sad times for Sunex fans

I bought a set of Sunex metric wrenches several years ago. I work on over the road trucks and trailers. Worse set of wrenches at the price I paid. Soon as my Snap On guy showed up. I got a set off of him. I'd rather cry over a price then not being able to finish a job over a wrench. If you are looking at Sunex, just buy Pittsburg from Harbor Freight. Same quality for a lower price.
My opinion is to never cheap out on wrenches. I only own their impact sockets when it comes to their hand tools.
i have both the new sunex and capri impact sockets. the sidewalls of the sunex are definitely thinner and the weight is a little bit lighter. let’s see how both hold up. so far capri seems better quality
People seem to love the capris. I have yet to try any. Looking forward to an update down the road
Thanks for the update. The fact that Sunex isn't really owning up to the change really rubs me the wrong way. They could at least do the normal corpo marketing BS speal and talk about the advantages this change brings. The fact that they are just silently changing, without acknowledging it tells me they can't be trusted. I also wanted to say you're putting out really great video's. I know what it takes to do all the work behind the scenes and I'm impressed with the effort you put in.
After using the sockets I'm a lot less angry. But I still can't believe that they are hiding that they moved. Like you said they can't be trusted. Thanks for the encouraging words. It takes way more effort and time than I initially thought. Also didn't realize how hard it is to talk to a camera.
There warranty is pissing me off, been trying for months to get a taiwan 1/2 wobble replaced, no response from them
It takes me a couple months to get stuff replaced. I know this ain't the point but if I really need a certain socket I broke I end up buying an individual one. That way the wait for the warranty ain't too big of a deal.
To be fair the warranty is pretty painless and almost as fast as a truck that comes by once a week
I must be the most unlucky guy when it comes to warranty. It’s been months and I still haven’t received my sockets. Everyone says it’s so quick. I think the quickest I’ve received them was 2 months. I’ve warrantied probably 15 sockets.

Why on earth would they announce it to everyone? They definitely need to have the info available, it should be right on the packaging and website. But of course a massive ad campaign is going to hurt them. The quality could be the same.

Some of these tool companies have a company employee at the Chinese factory to keep an eye on the Chinese works and to insure they are making quality tools. The problem is once the company inspector leaves for the day. The Chinese will open the factory for the night and make black market tools and sell them on the side.

Sunex isn't the only tool manufacturer that has shifted production to China without saying a word. Apex Tools, the company behind Gearwrench, Husky and Duralast, have been shifting production to China for quite some time now. Mid tier Taiwanese tools have been regarded as decent tools at a reasonable price. China has always been thought of as a producer of cheap throwaway junk, which most of the Chinese products sold today are. No matter which retail store you enter, the shelves are full of products that say "Made In China". China has stolen our plans and inventions and have been making cheap knockoffs for years. I'm sick and tired of seeing "Made In China" on the products that I buy. Unfortunately in this current economy, and the crazy prices of US made tools, I just can't afford to buy the likes of Snap-on, Mac, Matco and Cornwell.
Politics aside, there are reasons why tool production is being shifted to China. The number 1 reason is profit. China will produce the products cheaper than Taiwan. China will manufacture product to the standards specified. From cheap right up to good and durable. If Sunex continued to use Taiwan they would have to raise prices. Consumers will instantly complain of constantly rising prices. Though China will produce the tools at a lower cost to Sunex , and hopefully the same standard, the fat cats at Sunex aren't going to lower prices. This arrangement still affords the fat cats at the top their bonuses, company paid benefits and whatever else top management experiences. They sure as hell aren't going to tighten their belts. It amounts to the "shrinkflation" that has been going on. The price of certain food products remained the same, however, the amount you are getting has decreased. You don't realize this at first glance because you got your favorite candy bar or bag of chips. As time goes on you suddenly notice that the package somehow looks smaller than you remember and the amount you're getting is less. They pulled a fast one on you. People first and foremost focused on the cost of goods. Purchases are based on the amount of money you have in your wallet. Sunex pulled a fast one by quietly changing the country of manufacture. At least they kept the price the same. How good the Chinese manufactured sockets will be only time and usage will tell.
Very well put. I hate the Made in China on everything too but I can't afford to avoid them products either. I was fortunate enough to buy a lot of my tools over a long period of time and most of them I've had for years. And most of my quality tools were a heck of a lot cheaper ten years ago let alone five compared to now. I just checked on getting another Snap-on Flex Ratchet and it has doubled since I bought my last one. My wages sure haven't doubled since then. Just the way she goes I guess
China is all over our stores yet pays such a little tariff for importing.. American based companies should be penalized for this behavior even if it increases the cost of tools and goods.. most of this Chinese stuff is too low quality to even justify buying.
You can thank the EPA for all these issues & why the US isn't manufacturing anything. Not to mention the insane cost to repair the computer system on wheels you call a car.

Every Sunex tool Ive ever bought didnt last one job. They did send a replacement after 9-10 months, but it was too late. Will never waste money on them again.

@@mlacher100 46mm combo wrench tacoed on first Cat D11 track pad bolt. And 19mm 3/4 drive hex socket rounded like butter on first ripper tooth pin. I heard lots of good things. Did not exspect failure on first bolt. The fasteners were not tight.

I warranty a Matco 8 mm socket that USA made and I got a Taiwan socket for warranty. Matco is doing the same thing.
It's just sad. The only good thing is at least they do still warranty it. Still makes me angry though
What's really messed up is Matco still has USA made sockets(chrome for sure) they just don't advertise them at all but your Matco dealer sure can still order them

My Sunex (Taiwan) u-joint seems pretty soft, even compared to a Pittsburgh one. And it's gigantic side by side to the Pittsburgh. Super weird, imo.

Most but not all Chinese manufacturing is inferior, it's been proven. It is very well known that Chinese manufacturers, love to skimp here and there to make more money on products that are not of the same quality. I worked for manufacturers, and we would have products made in China, so I'm telling you firsthand that all manufacturers made in China have to hire full-time people to watch them.
Couldn’t agree more. I also work in manufacturing and we have plants in China. And the products that come out of there are completely inferior. And the stories that you hear are comical as long as you’re not the one buying that product.
Another sad situation. I've bought some of their adapters, swivels, and extentions. But, I won't buy anything tool-wise from China, unless there's not another affordable choice. I trust Taiwans' steel quality and heat treatment more, and their quality control is better, just in my experience. I usually prefer a more shallow broach depth, but as long as it's not running down the entire depth of the socket, I usually don't notice much of a difference. It really only matters to me when I'm trying to use the socket to start threading the nut or bolt back on. It could even be the case that there's not much difference, I just don't like the thought of any of my money funding the CCP in any capacity. Sometimes you can't help but buy Chinese made goods, I just try to avoid doing so when I have a choice.

I warranty my Matco adv Taiwan socket and got a china adv socket. 👎 I guess the rumors are true, sunex makes Matco adv. I was thinking gp was rebranding their sockets.

@@COBRO98 no, proto is owned by Stanley Black and Decker so some stuff is rebranded from Facom, usag, Mac made in various factories throughout the world(France, Italy, Spain, Taiwan) but sockets, ratchets, wrenches are made here in America

Sunex really pulled a fast one smh, yesterday I recieved my warranty replacement for my 1/2 universal socket, and thankfully it was a taiwan version.
Good to hear. It seems like most of the single sockets people are receiving are still Taiwan especially SAE ones. I also received Taiwan ones. I assume that is due to them still having large supplies. Also people are still getting SAE master sets made in Taiwan too. I don't know if its just old stock or what. Like I said when I called them they wouldn't give me a straight answer.

I have alot of Taiwan sunex and have broken many of the torx 3/8” sockets.
I don't think they're torx bits are very good. I probably broke 8 T-50's. I've broke a few deep 9/16 3/8" also. I get sockets will break but the torx's definitely break a lot more than what I would say is normal.
Any news about Tekton? Hopefully they will stay with Taiwan. I'm a tool snob so I have mostly Japanese made stuff, but I do have two Tekton impact sets (3/8" & 1/2") and they are good quality and made in Taiwan.
I assume Tekton will stay in Taiwan as long as they possibly can. They seem to be a tool company ran by people that actually use tools. No tool guys want Chinese made tools.

I bought a Sunex 3/4" SAE deep impact socket in 3/4" drive and the broaching was unacceptable. It only went like a half an inch deep. I exchanged it and same thing. The broaching was like half an inch for a deep socket. It looks like an extended shallow socket. Never buying from Sunex again.

I got a Chinese impact today in the mail from Sunex thinking it would be from Taiwan and it looks very different from the Chinese impacts that you have. My lazer etching is in a big square and the roll stamping is nearly impossible to see. I got a returnless refund from Amazon since the photo said made in Taiwan. Very deceiving.

Sunex has handled the whole thing so poorly. I just hope people see this and can make a more informed decision when purchasing. I’m not saying don’t buy them. But I’m done with them for now.

I'm not against Chinese tools, but the price tage ant reflecting the cost saving they pocketing. There are so many Chinese brands on Amazon for a fraction of the price, probably made at the same build house sunex is now using. If you know how supply chains work you should understand how fd up sunex is for using cheeper build house without passing on savings to customers.

I had to warranty a 5” 3/8 impact wobble extension recently but I did somewhat abuse it. Tried to to angle torque a wheel bearing with the hub still on the car (the bolts go in from the inside) awkward angle, awkward set up and it snapped on the wobble end. Sunex didn’t even ask for a receipt, a week later FedEx delivered a new one
I’ve never had them turn down a warranty claim. My only complaint is it’s takes months for me to get replacements. I’ve probably warrantied 15 sockets and never had them get to my door within a month.

Man, thats disheartening i was looking at buying a 3/8 and 1/2" set for my work truck because i love the old taiwanese made sunex sockets ive had for a decade in my shop.
Ya it sucks. I’ve been a big advocate for them for damn near ten years. Most of my buddies have Sunex cause of my praise. Now they go and do this. The worst part is they’re not honest about it
I do not want any of my money going to China. Period. I accept its literally impossible to avoid Chinese goods totally, but i go out of my way trying to not fund the CCP.
I try my best too especially when it comes to tools
Anyone who likes a deeper broach depth over a shallow one on a socket loses my respect completely.
Haha. Good to know. Like I said its subjective. I've ran into more problems with a short broach then I've ever the other way. Deep boach worse thing u get two nuts stuck in it. I rarely use a deep socket to start nuts. Not my style.
