Excellent video. This is why people watch your stuff. Not to hear you grip about cheap tool brands...and you know who... no bitterness....Really great video. Thanks. I've been educated.
Thanks 👍
Don't forget about the power loss, the matco is notable. Had bolts that the matco wouldn't break loss that the snap on and Mac broke free without issues
Yes this as well!!
Hello CP AND HENRY: THANK YOU for this important video. After my extreme experiences with Crapsman and SK I refuse to purchase nothing but Snap On impact & chrome swivels. I must say that I have never had any problems or failures of any kind. Thank again CP & my best to Henry. TMP from N.J.
Thanks for sharing!
I have a coworker with the MAC set, and i absolutely love them, they’re just so shallow they fit pretty much anywhere. MAC just doesn’t have the old design in stock anymore, so I’ve been trying to look for something similar, they’re new redesign just doesn’t cut it on some jobs
Thanks for sharing!!
Great video CP! I love swivel sockets. I reach for them more than anything else. 1/4 sunex and my 3/8 are all Snap On.
Thanks for sharing
Woooo! Been eyeballing a set of wobblys thanks for this
Hope you enjoy it!
thank you for this post CP! been wanting, for i don't know how long, to be informed more about swivels in an unbiased manner from a source of integrity that i know i can trust.
✌️🐝➕
Glad it was helpful!
I used to use the swivel adapters for the longest time. It's actually nice to move onto swivel sockets. You're definitely right though that the cheaper designs with the bulky collars are annoying when compared to the welded pins.
Something that may be good to note, from torque test channel when they tested impact swivels, the pinned designs seem to transfer the torque from impacts better than pinless designs.
Great tip!
As a career technician I agree, swivel stockers need to be inspect before every use.
Using swivel sockets on an extension that has no locking mechanism is very dangerous
Always inspect the hog ring on your impacts tool
Over the last couple years I’ve invested in impact rated extensions with built in swivels
I have mostly MAC swivel sockets but I have had Matco metric for around 13 years and GP 1/4 metric for around 15 years. You are 100% correct in this video. The older Matco likes to bind up. The GP has served me well but I really don’t put a lot of torque on 1/4. My 3/8 and 1/2 MAC take a beating daily. Main reason I bought them was two of the reasons you named. Using an adapter is dangerous! I seriously can’t tell you how many times I was using it on an impact then the socket some off becoming a missile! Also using an adapter creates one long socket limiting room.
Great video please keep them coming!
Thanks for sharing. always great to hear from everyone!!
I don't think the welded in pins are about preventing pins flying off, it's likely about stopping pins partially pushing out and tearing up the users hands. A lot of people 'ride' the swivels with their free hand, especially when starting the socket.
Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love and RESPECT brother
Thanks for the visit
Great info. I like using a locking pin detent adapter on my 1/2 impact stuff. It’s a pain getting the socket off but it’s nice knowing the sockets not gonna fly off.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the Enlightenment session CP, i found this video very informational.i been considering getting a set or two of these wobbles and you've really presented a lot of stuff for me to consider. Thanks brother, and keep doing your thing sir.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the education. I really enjoy your videos. I am getting back into working on my 2010 F150. You are a wealth of knowledge. We do appreciate you.
Glad to help
Another great video!!
Finally bit the bullet and bought Snap on’s both 3/8 and 1/2
Fortunately, I’ve never experienced a severe failure and for that reason I keep a close eye on them.
As soon as they even start getting loose, I get them warranted out
I started with the Snap On pinned adapters in the 90’s, switched to universals with the collars and finally the welded universals. Still use the adapter for sizes I don’t have.
Great video as always. Thank you for this one.
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome detailed video my brother much appreciated ❤
Much appreciated
Ive got snap on adapter swivels for those certain scenarios they work great as for sockets i cant justify the snap on price I've got gear wrench shallow impact swivels and sunnex deeps and they've been great surprisingly i haven't broke one yet definitely can't complain for the price.
Really enjoyed this one . Very educational for me . Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Now the power in modern impacts a 3/8 today has more than a 1/2 from back in the day so that's a safety issue so price shouldn't be a issue on which ones you get
Glad you didn't give up on you tube. I had to laugh because today the first advert before you video was for horrid fright!
Sorry! Lol
Nice review and explaining the design evolution, sizing collars, wall thickness and depth (benefits and draw backs). I own Snap On and MAC, also have an older Proto set. Hands down Snap On is my go to set.
Thanks for the tips!
Hello CP N HENRY... BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO SINCE U TEASED IT A LITTLE WHILE BACK
Thank you for covering this topic so well. I recently managed to get the 1/2" drive USA Cornwell 13mm-24mm on that February promo for 314$ instead of 754$. I am excited to have them outlast me!
Wow, you got a smoking deal. 👊🏻
@@russellpottenger8584 Yea I couldn't pass it up, I've never seen it on sale like that before
Glad it was helpful!
I bought Gearwrench. I understand the tool truck ones are better but the amount of times I use them will be so small it doesn’t justify the price. Plus Gearwrench just came out with the deep and I was going to try Astro’s version. If I break one then I might look at changing them to snap on. But like you said in the video you’re giving your opinion. But I do agree the Gearwrench base is comically large.
This was truly a great video for me I don't have access to tool trucks but I do have a proto tool dealer and gray tools canada dealer they are also great options for the industrial mechanics out there thanks always great content!!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video mate cheers
Thank you! Skol!!
Great video CP 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I went to a new to me tool shop today, they were selling SK, Channelock alongside Titan (junk)...crazy
$600 for a set of 3/8 drive shallows is a hard pill to swallow. But once you have them, you use them all the time.
My bird feeder took a big hit
A guy had one break and come apart in the shop last week. Went through the window of the car in the bay over from him. Luckily nobody got hurt. I will say if you buy just the adapter go with the locking pin over the retaining ball. The pin really locks the socket on.
Completely agree on the pin retention. I have had both ball and hog ring retention swivel adapter fly apart.
I almost pulled the trigger on some snappy’s or matco swivels but it just didn’t fit the budget. I ended up getting gearwrench swivels. I regret buying them. I wasn’t happy about the 3/8 cause they sent me deeps not shallows then wouldn’t let me return them. Home Depot returns/warranty has been bad luck for me.
Always inspect your swivel sockets before and after use. Treat it like a gun. It’s always loaded
Great job on this tutorial cp also, I know you’re not a fan of VIM, but they have a double impact swivel that you should check out
Cool, thanks!
I dont know much about swivel sockets. Besides knowing swivel sockets come handy with tight areas. I bought 3/8 sets of Grey Pneumatic because I've heard Grey Pneumatic can take a massive beating. Like any other socket, it'll need to be replaced due to use and wear.
Good job cp. Saw
I've personally took one on top of head it split me open good. I wasn't even the one using it.
Thank you Chad
Can you do a tool box tour please
Does anyone else put impact grease into the pinned area of the socket? I put a small amount of grease into the swivel area and blow it into there with some compressed air. Then about once a year i will clean out all the old grease and dirt and regrease it.
I have a set of the late, great Armstrong made in the USA 1/2" drive swivels and they are the best I've ever used. But I'm in a conundrum - they're awesome sockets, but irreplaceable, so I'm hesitant to use them.
Very cool!
Thanks for the informative vid. I’ve been checking out Sunex and GP, like you mentioned for budget-conscious lines, but they all seem to be pinless with chunky collars. Do you have any others in mind? Thanks!
I don't have experience with GP but any Sunex swivel I've seen is pinned and have held up quite well. They're not the slimmest profile with the collars but far less bulky than gearwrench. Pinless swivels seem to have a slightly wider base, but Astro has 3/8 and 1/2 drive shallow swivels. They're supposed to be coming out with deep swivels soon, too.
Glad it was helpful!
Cp how do you become a tool dealer
I've had good luck with Grey Pneumatic swivel sockets. GW pin less swivels are straight up garbage IMO.
Can you tell me what type of swivel impact to go with?
Fixed tight?
What styles do you stay away from again?
Pinned is the way to go, except stay away from Matco ADV pinned
Was hoping you had better things to say about SK swivels. Do the older ones have a good reputation?
They are decent but they aren't any cheaper than the tool trucks and they are not going to be warranted with the same usa socket so why would you invest in them?
Who makes the Astro swivels and are they ok
They are Taiwan and decent for a budget but I wouldn't recommend every day Heavy use
I will not use an impact swivel adaptor ( not socket) that does not have the lock pin. The ones with ball detent throw sockets at insane velocities. Do yourself a favour kids buy the adaptor with the lock pin.
👍
Let's hope whenever a swivel socket breaks off, that it won't be a high score pin ball. Am I right? Lol 🤣
True story brother lol
👍😎👍
Yo CP
Matco also aren’t made in USA
And they’re more expensive
1st Snap on and mac :edit: welded pin
2nd Sunex and grey pneumatic :edit: collar design
3rd nothing. Those are the only 4 brands worth a fuck
I had a set of gear wrench. They’re trash
