I really think that they made the best call singing this ! They can actually sing without instruments and the fact that they felt it was an honor, showed so much respect for it so yes! They did great even with the glitch!

But if they have a choice, they will definitely sing this in accapella. I've seen them singing national anthem in accappela and it was way better than nsync!
Anyone who says BSB can't harmonize needs to get their ears checked. BSB can definitely harmonize. They are all not tenors. At this point in their careers, Nick and Brian were tenors. AJ is a baritone. Kevin is a baritone-bass. Howie can arguably be a tenor but he's really more of a counter tenor.
The harmonies in this performance were weak, Nsync did a much better job at this song. They had their parts clearly set out with Lance as a bass (much stronger at it than Kevin), Joey as a baritone, Justin and JC as tenors, and Chris as a countertenor (definitely better at it than Howie. He could hit higher notes and had a more girly sounding singing voice).
Kevin characterizes himself as a bass-baritone and I believe the other boys do too. Kevin can definitely hit bass notes. He can sing baritone too though such as when he does a lot of lead parts.

It seems that no gives credit to background instruments that give the song the shape in needs to be spectacular. Glorious sounds from the orchestra. High praise to all of you.
