  • This is not so much a review but a demonstration of how the Lee Pro 1000 press works and its progressive nature.
Hope this would help with those that are beginning reloading and possibly answer some questions of what each station on the progressive press preforms.

Accidentally sat a pound of powder down within reach of a heat source once, I seen a bright light , the loudest blast ive ever heard and was thrown to the floor. I lost hearing for a few days, 1st and 2nd degree burns on arm, neck and ear. My eye pro had burn marks on the lense, I have been handloading for years and became careless. I thanked God for sparing me, I am scarred on my right forearm and have some nerve damage. Don't ever get too comfortable or complacent while doing this stuff. The pain I felt from my right arm being on fire, I will never forget.

This was actually my first press also, and I found it to be fantastic.
A single stage press is great if you are reloading accurate rifle rounds and will also help with the stages and explanation of what each stage does, but if you plan on reloading pistol rounds this Lee pro 1000 is an excellent and cheap option

You could put a hose-clamp on the leg near to the primer-tray, and clamp down something for the primer-through/feed to bump into, then you don't have to tap it.
Nice video, tho, for them who consider the Pro 1000.

As a first press I highly recommend it mate, the way I see it is the more I can save on setting up reloading the more I can spend on reloading which equates to the more shooting and range time I can get which then equates to the more practice I can do and thus become better at the disciple of shooting. Currently I have 2 pro1000 presses and a single stage press which are all Lee products. Fantastic for the price. There are some things I replace like the scales etc, but other than that happy days

Because this was more a demonstration of the press I only put a small amount of powder into the hopper, its actually hard to see but its about an inch deep.
Also as a general rule of thumb I rather put in small amounts and monitor the levels and top up where needed just incase something was to happen that ignited the powder.

  • @NothingButPinkMist

The 100 MTM boxes (both rifle and pistol) make for great storage and also instant recognition of how many rounds you have in storage. I currently have 10x100 round 9mm boxes and try to keep them stocked up for range visits. My .308 boxes are great also now just looking around for some .223 boxes that are more than just 50 rounds.
    Thanks mate :)

I'd like to try running a progressive sometime, but I don't reload more than 100 rounds at a time, and I reload more rifle than I do handgun. when using these Lee dies you are not required to lube up any straight length brass. Meaning the majority of pistol rounds that do not have a neck (with exception to .357 sig that has a small neck at the top of the round) can go though the Lee pro 1000 without being lubed up.
If you were to press any rifle rounds that has a neck up near where the projectile is seated then you would need to lube up each round before placing into the dies :)
Which makes this press a nice and fast working one

1k rounds per hour with a Pro 1000? You are a better man than I - I've never been able to knock out more than 250-300 per hour with my Pro 1000. To get 250-300 an hour, the sun, moon and stars have to be in perfect alignment! The time necessary to reload the case feeder tubes, the primer tray and the powder hopper to support those 1000 rounds makes an hour elapsed time hard to believe.
I don't think that the press can maintain its settings for long enough to knock out 1000 rounds. The Pro 1000 press is a fiddly machine, best suited to use by those who enjoy tinkering.

Dillon make great products thats for sure, real quality in a Dillon press. However you are also paying for that quality (in most cases double).
I thought I'd try the Lee press as a cheap alternative and it seems to work fine for me.
After all anything that allows me to shoot for less and gain more range time is always a plus as I see it

Good day, I'm interested in purchasing one like this! If you were break it down, how much would a box of 50 rounds cost to press yourself?

    • @ZAPSquad-rb3hj
      @ZAPSquad-rb3hj 8 лет назад

The final cost will be affected by what brand/type of components you use..... bullets, powder, primers, brass. For my plinking range rounds, I use 115gr polymer coated bullets which when buying in bulk comes out to about 6.5 cents per bullet, I use TiteGroup powder at about $20/pound (7000 gr) and at 4.2 gr of powder each round is about 1.2 cents, the primers I use is 2.1 cents each, and brass I get free from range pick up. So each round cost me 6.5+1.2+2.1= 9.8 cents..... so a box of 50 = $4.90. Keep in mind that EVERY gun shoots differently depending on the ammo used. One of the good things about reloading is that once you find a load that YOUR gun likes, you can replicate that versus buying factory ammo which can vary from batch to batch.

MMM... I can't see any powder in the hopper either.... LOL.
I load rifle ammo on a Lee turret press (not progressive), and it handles it very well. Not quite as "built like a brick outhouse" as the CH I used to have (sold it... long story!), but the Lee is half the money. It works faultlessly for rifle and pistol ammo, and with a few spare turret heads (they're very inexpensive) changing calibres takes all of 10 seconds!... I have had a lot of Lee gear (presses, dies, and gadgets) over the years and it has always worked perfectly for me, and the prices are very low. Haven't tried their measure or scale (I have a Lyman scale, and used to have a CH measure which was infallible). I am broke these days so am making myself a powder measure... a lot of work, but my time is free!
Lee stuff is good... haven't managed to wear any out yet! (I am 71)....

Did you say 1000 rounds in 60 minutes? I started timing your reloads from one handle pull to the next, and saw an average of one every 10 seconds. That is 6 per minute x 60 minutes, is only 360 an hour. Am I missing something?

    • @theindooroutdoorsman
      @theindooroutdoorsman 4 года назад

He's not really churning rounds out. He's stopping to point at things and talking to the camera. About a minute before he said that he also said "I'm going a bit slower". So there's that.
I don't really believe a Lee is giving him that much though.

Crimpping is really only neseccery if you are using your reloads in AR's or semi auto rifles (which we are not allowed here in Australia), so setback in a bolt action is something that never happens. If I was to shoot in a military semi auto then crimpping would be something I'd need to look at doing :)

I love the Lee pro1000, I've reloaded probably close to 5,000 rounds on it and the only thing to fail (apart from that chain that dispenses the powder in station 2) is the de capping pin in station 1. However that was more due to user fault than product fault and to get a new de capping pin only cost about $10 (less in the states).
I like it so much I recently purchased the same progressive press in .223 caliber. I'll do a quick review on that too soon :)

Just bought one of these presses with dies factory set up for 9mm Luger. I am still working out how to put it together. With my kit I received 3 or 4 black disks for the powder loader marked A to D. Which one should I use for 9mm. I am loading similar grain bullet to you.
Also with your brass do you de-prime before you tumble or after.
Thanks heaps. (Love the T shirt)

Depending on the powder you use and how much dictates which powder slot to use. Always weigh a few first to make sure you are getting the correct amount of powder before cranking out rounds. Most people who use dry tumble media leave the old primer in and de-prime after tumbling so that the media doesn't get stuck in the flash hole.

I was thinking the same. I've been using Dillon's for 40 years. Take a look at the linkage on these things and then look at Dillon. Lee is junk.

Comparing Apples to Oranges, for what you pay for a Dillon I would hope that its better quality. I have 3 Lee Presses and they all work fine for my purposes with no issues, loaded thousands of rounds with them.

Im a new reloader would you recommend this or a lee turret press? Progressive seems like a lot going on at once, but with the turret it seems like its decently fast and also less going on.
    What ya think?

I like mine but for .40 the ejector sucks, on the ejector their is a tiny bit of shitty metal to hold the ejector and it broke on me, it would not eject so I had to modify it. in the instructions it says to put the ejector on the other side of the screw but their is no slot to hold the ejector pin winch makes the pin fall out that really sucks

This us a question, not a critique ok, but where's your powder? The hopper looks empty as your loading, why I'm asking..

There are so many different variations of this shirt... all you need to do is a quick search on ebay.
I rather liked the one I got, but after all as long as the message gets out then its all good ;)

I’d be curios to know if you still reload and if so have you moved on from that press. I only say that because I owned one of those.
