i wouldn't be to surprised that they would fix your wiiu, they were fixing FAMICOM'S and NES' till 2003
I’m surprised about it. My original 3DS bricked in 2017 and they said they couldn’t system transfer because they didn’t support the original 3DS anymore, just XL onward.
They still repair og model DS (2004!)
but that was nintendo back when they werent craping out on NAN flash that they knew had a limited lifespan........
It is, because the Wii U wasn't a success.
They still do
Damn, you got to unbox a Wii U in 2022, amazing
Unfortunately he took the plastic off. Using a Xacto knife, he could have made cutouts for the areas that needed to be exposed and kept his as the cleaned used Wii U in existence.
How many of those "replacement" consoles do you think they have? As far as I know Nintendo thought at launch the Wii U would sell as much as the Wii and prepared for people to make the jump almost immediately
Just cuz they thought, doesn't mean they didn't see real quick and basically not prepare to ramp up production
as a nintendo branch its safe to say they have lots of leftover inventory of past products
@@dshaynietheawesome I wonder if I can ask Nintendo if I can purchase a refurbished White 32GB Wii U console assuming they still have any leftover inventory for it.
@@dshaynietheawesome of course they do. But they didn't make 80 million Wii us thinking "they for sure sold just cuz the Wii was epic". I'd imagine after never having a price drop, and the switch taking over, that they probably have several thousand in a warehouse.but for sure they where hurting for cash even though nes classic was dropping, and they probably did wholesale alot of systems out at that time to boost some dollars. The 3ds was still doing pretty well enough as they transitioned into the switch era
@@carloso5910official I’m wondering the same thing cause that was my first thought. I would happily buy one from Nintendo
I totally would’ve kept all the save data on the first Wii U, I’m very sentimental so there’s no way I’d want all those saves to go. You mentioned how transferring the data with homebrew was “risky” but I can assure you that, at least in my opinion, it would’ve been the best option. I got homebrew on my Wii U, 3DS XL, & one of my switches and as long as you backup your console, you shouldn’t need to worry about bricking your system. At the same time I understand your decision and it’s really cool you got a fresh Wii U 👌👌👌
Great video, I love the Wii U and I’ve had one since 2013 as well and it seems like we’re about the same age which is fun 😉 good to hear people’s positive experiences with the Wii U especially now.
I would totally agree.
Sorry to hear about your data, but glad you’ve been enjoying replaying the games! The same thing almost happened with my switch not too long ago.
Yeah, that would have been a hard choice for me. I can't directly relate as I don't have a Wii U myself, but rather a Wii & 3ds.
Nine years of history of you and your Wii U was a lot to pass up, I'm sure. My Wii, from about 15 years ago has a special place in my heart, from all the games I'd have played to the save files in the system memory... our Wii for the longest time was not compatible with our home, as it had never boded well with our network and for a solid 5(ish) years with unattachable TV inputs. At the end of the day (decade, even) it was still just a game system. Miis, some game demoes, and system save files from every game I've ever put in it? I absolutely would have taken the new one.
But my 3DS on the other hand, it was so much more social. Even though things like the friends-list, digital purchases, and such are tied to your NNiD, + photos & videos, and save data on the SD card, there's so much to it on the system memory that's hard (emotionally) to part with. How would I contend with losing the specialties of the system, from all the times its been dropped to playing in-person with friends? It wouldn't be the same system at all as has such a greater personal touch to it than the Wii. I would have kept my 3DS.
Anyway, even though this was recommended to me now I see that this was a two month old video and you've probably received some opinions, I felt the need to vent a little. Hope you are enjoying your new Wii U!
It always sucks to start over but with that little amount of game saves it shouldn't be that bad. I forgot to upload my PS4 saves to the cloud to the tune of around 600 games. Still not a big deal because many of those games I wasn't returning to and if I did I would likely just start a new game. The Wii U unwrapping reminded me of when I unboxed my Phat PS3. I would always use gloves when handling my PS3.
I had my PS4 hard drive bork itself (no spin) and I didn’t back up my saves and I was in the middle of many games.
Hoping to get the drive repaired some day buts sticking to my PS5 now
@@Bboyman1150 I use both my PS4 Pro and my PS5 because why wear my PS5 out when I can split the time between consoles?
I personally would've kept the old Wii U, and bought a second hand unit.
I'm just extremely sentimental about my old devices, since to me, they're the physical representation of some memories.
Hell, I have a Kindle Fire I bricked a couple years ago, but I still keep it in the hopes I can get a replacement motherboard for it eventually, _tho even then, I won't have much use for it_
too far deep fam
what is wrong with the fire tablet
kids use them mostly
@@bubgamingandvlogs3870 I was trying to install a custom ROM, something I'd done a dozen times before, but the guide I was following ended up having me delete the bootloader, and I was dumb enough to follow it (despite my gut telling me not to)
I really appreciate your videos so much, They're just so entertaining to watch ❤❤
Thank you you’ve made my day
Too much sentimental value, would've asked if I could be the new one and then looked into transferring the data myself.
Although that's mainly because I would not have been motivated to redo all my progress. I hate it when I have to redo stuff because I lost progress though a technical error or simply forgot to save.
well for one thing the guy at the counter on the day I returned was in a stright up nope mood
asked the question "No" it was not gonna go further than that
Very entertaining and informative video mate. Good on ya'
Miss my Wii U & I'm envious of you opening a brand new one!!
This is actually amazing! They still care about the customers. This is a big surprise. Also, if that situation happened to me, i would just kept the console, and transferred all the data to the other one. There is a very little chance that you would brick it plus, you always can do a backup.
I just keep playing my Wii U atleast once a week. Keep it going so hopefully I don't end up with any issues. I love Wii U, there are definitely some really awesome fun games for that console!
You need to play with you'r Wii U more often, i heard that if you play you'r Wii U rarely, it will bricks itself automatically.
Nand memory looses power if the console isn’t plugged in for years on end
And doesn’t brick the console so much as it softlocks it
Luckily using homebrew and debug metthods the nand memory can be backed up or reset and the console can continue to be used
@@dshaynietheawesome my Wii U really glitchy and sometimes it displays weird blue particles on the screen
And this is why you should ALWAYS have your devices plugged into a surge protector.
A UPS is even better.
thank you for this video it made me remember that my dad and my mom have an NES so they will look for them sometime thank you for enlightening me.
This video made me feel every single emotion that exists in my soul xD
Including lust?
out of all yt videos i dont know why this is my favorite video
Don't worry mate, me and my two other brothers lost our backwards compatible ps3s to lightning striking a tree at the front of our house, my one still lived but the HDMI and ethernet got fried, still got it in pieces to try fix.
Dude watch the guy who repairs Nintendo switches 23 of them and you could fix your ps3 easy!
Our Wii U bricked up on us years ago during my daughter's game of Splatoon. No known reason for why it just suddenly shut down & became totally non-responsive. It wouldn't power on with following all the online advice on what to do so we gave up on it because it was no longer under warranty & Nintendo stopped supporting this system (at least here in the USA) In a last ditch effort, we took it to independent electronics/gaming repair places, but they could not fix our system. The last gàming store/repair place we took it to could not repair it but offered us a replacement (used but tested & guaranteed to work) Wii U console for $89. Since most our games are physical (I had to buy another used copy of Splatoon since our previous one was still stuck inside our original bricked Wii U), we decided to buy the replacement system although we hated losing all of our screenshots & game progress, but it is nice to be able to play all of our Wii U games again. The only problem is that since we no longer have our original Wii U console, we were not able to transfer any of our data over to our replacement one & it seems the replacement system uses some other id that was already in there so I guess there is no way to really transfer our network data into this one since we never had it removed from the previous one which kind of bothers me, but yet I am very thankful just to have a working Wii U console again....hopefully this one won't brick up on us suddenly like the previous one did though!
You can call Nintendo support to unlink your id from your old wii u. That’s what I did
@@braddek9882 Oh that would be great, can they still do that even though we don't have our old Wii U in our possession?
@@nancyfrycklundchan2753 maybe if you can somehow proof you're the owner of the ID on that old console by showing your emails that you received from making any purchases.
@@nancyfrycklundchan2753 probably if you have proof that you are the owner of the ID
I will have to do some digging around to find any proof of any purchases made or the ID from the console since that was a really long time ago, but it's certainly worth a shot!! Thank you so much for the advice!! :)
Lmfao gotta love how he used classic Season 5 Thomas & Friends music at the beginning, favorite youtuber already
Could you not have used a specific homebrew application to backup saves to an external hard drive then homebrew the new Wii U and restore it via the external hard drive?
Lesson learned, always use good surge protectors and always have backups, I guess
I remember as a kid wanting a wii u as a kid and the switch came out a year later and felt bad for getting one. Now with the wii u e shop shutting down the console has been on my mind and I've been thinking if it's possible to make a wii u portable so I can forever get use out of it
My first Gaming platform was the original Gameboy given to me for my 5th birthday in 1992. I find it fascinating hearing Gen-Z stories about their first piece of gaming hardware & experience
Nintendo ds lite 2009
Same, my first Nintendo was the Super Nintendo, followed by the N64, and GBA. It's crazy see more and more adults talk about their first Nintendo's were the Wii U
i have had a wii u since i was 5, i do understand your connection
I bought my Wii U refurbished direct from Nintendo. It was immaculate. Not a mark on the console or gamepad. Glossy, black mirror finish. And you're right, they don't stay that way. I really liked the Wii U. The last time me and my cousins got together to play in the same room was on that Wii U.
7:36 for me it would be definitely the latter, as long as a probably better way to play the games, it can't be that bad from me to losing the progress
You can still use the component cable on the broken wii u. 1080i output. I would of got the new one though
The thing that happened to your PS4 happened to my original Wii back when the Wii u was close to releasing or at least that's what I remember. I wasn't at home when it happened but I was able to upgrade to a Wii u. I still don't have the original Wii but I do still have that Wii u.
What they still repair wii u consoles here in Australia that's surprising they haven't done repairs to them in America for years
So if i send my blue joycon (which has some damage), will it get repaired or replaced free of charge?
Same with my WIi U :) still works too. If I had to choose I would take the new Wii U that's longevity. Long Live Wii U.
I saw that Skylanders. Shoutout to Skylanders
Trap Team digital is sorta rare or at least uncommon, thats pretty cool
Wait my Wii U was struck by lightning and it is damaged so I can get it fixed still?
wait hold up. if the av input still works. Please explain why they could not just plug the broken console into av and do the transfer!?
The surge made it to the tv which then migrated out through the hdmi ports. Seen it happen before.
I loved my wii u so much. Still have it, still use it.
Wonder how many brand new one's they have l have seen brand new one's sell for ridiculous prices on eBay
I'm surprised the replaced the console, considering Nintendo does tell you to not use their home/hybrid devices during a storm due to this reason.
I love my Wii U. Though I only use it to play all the Zelda games I have stored on its SD card.
do they still repair 3dses? i broke mine :-(
This music so nostalgic
Honestly if I had my really old Wii u I would probably keep it, it just feels good to have it
I can confirm that
With the Wii U, it's sort of best to get a new Wii U, if you had an older model. This being due to a major defect with the Wii U's production process in part of its memory due to error code 160-0103.
I’ve heard of that but is it for all wii u’s or just the old one
My original console was manufactured in 2013 while my new one was manufactured in 2015
Since I already modded my Wii U, i would've backed up everything, bought another one, and reloaded everything I could.
If this happened pre-mod, I'd definitely keep the broken console, and try to mod it (I lost the account details for my NNID a long time ago)
Im curious about the *actual* manufacture date.
when you realise most console manufacturer technician teams are just inventory directors
I wonder if I can ask Nintendo if I can purchase a refurbished White 32GB Wii U console assuming they still have any leftover inventory for it.
Until they release Xenoblade Chronicles X I will hold on to my Wii U
This makes me wanna play my Wii U again. Until I remembered most of its games are on Switch and would rather play them there.
My gamepads range has dropped and yet i still love the wii u
7:40 yeah id accept the replacement
i love my Wii U and it will be my alltime favorite console.
i heard that wii us can break from the emmc dying so i wonder how many replacement new wii us are gotta break
That’s the first time hearing that lightning actually broke someone’s electronics, my wii still work after many power outages
This is why surge protector is recommended!
I would have aksed if it were possible for me to give them an external ssd or usb for them to transfer all the saves on it so that i could just transfer them on the new wii u
Wait what? How do they still have BRAND NEW Wii U gamepads? I really need a new one (my screen is kinda damaged)
this video going to blow up
Much like my PS4
It’s still my favorite console . I❤ my Wii U
Thinking of it, if I had a similar situation with my PS Vita, I think I would have taken mine back instead of having it replaced. This is not just "a" PS Vita. This is MY PS Vita.
Though I think it would be easier to transfer data from one Vita to another, and having a brand new Vita would be incredible, since mine is scratched everywhere, stickers are gone, and the grey paint is fading away. But still. This is my Vita. It's way too important to me.
Man I love the Wii u and I am depressed that the e shop is closing today
Interesting I would’ve kept the original myself and just tried to transfer everything. Makes sure to power the system on every now and again or it will die on you.
I never had the chance to buy a WiiU but my friend in South Korea had one while we were stationed there. It was a lot of fun just not marketed properly.
Really wish that Nintendo would port ZombiU to the Switch though. 😞
seems you've gone through the same pain as me haha
I feel kinda cursed with my my Wii U saves, I lost storage media with my saves twice, including my virginal BOTW playthrough where I did all the shrines.
Why would you play Mario kart 8 and 3d World on wiiu instead of switch?
I wish they would remake Nintendo Land for the nintendo switch. Literally that was my childhood, I would play the zelda one 24/7
I’m glad my Wii U still functions properly, but there’s a catch. I don’t really care that much about my Wii U saves, but I heavily value my Wii saves that are contained on there, dating back all the way to 2007 (I did a system transfer from my old Wii that is now gone forever). If I lost those, I would be completely distraught, though at least I have homebrew and SD cards to back them up.
Makes you want the days of good old days of memory cards back, right?
I thought the Thomas music during the lightning was a very nice touch 😂 fellow legend
that just goes to the qaulity of mike o'donnel and jounior camplbells work that it holds up and works in different contexts like this
@@dshaynietheawesome exactly they’re geniuses when it comes to their compositions. And you picked the perfect song to replicate the scene. Cranky bugs = goated
You left out a small part of munitions from tugs
@@dshaynietheawesome tbh mate tugs is something I’ve not properly gotten into watching like I’ve definitely heard of it a lot cuz the community but Yh I’ve not really been that fussed
I think you should have kept your old wii u and use one of those Wii2hdmi to output 1080p image.
Great video
This is why I love Nintendo so much
I still have mine and it has a HDMI out but not the error for using HDMI. Mine is just worn out.
i miss my wii u :( they need nintendo land on the switch that's the only reason I miss it
I would just ask for the replacement and the og at the store and try the transfer ag the store myself
That sucks that you lost your old save data, but it's awesome you got a new one! My family has had a White Wii U for a long time, the Gamepad on ours has a dent on the screen, I think my Brother or Sister dropped a Screwdriver or something, but it still works. Our Wii Us HDMI port hasn't worked for a while, I have been using WII2HDMI adapters, and I also found I could Homebrew our Wii U, and I installed Pretendo, USB Loader GX (for backing up games), and more. The Wii U was a huge part of my Childhood, even though we only had 2 Wii U exclusive games, We used to have a Wii according to siblings, but I don't remember it, it was a long time ago, maybe I just wasn't interested at the time or something, idk. Also, if you ever homebrew your new Wii U, I would recommend using the guide “hacks.guide”, that's the one I used. Hope you were able to replace what you lost, that would be a nightmare
Yeah definitely would of been a tough decision but for me longevity is something I would of picked.
Just a head up to anyone getting their hopes up, I contacted support here in the US to try and get my Wii U that boots only to a black screen replaced and after the troubleshooting steps they said there is no repair program anymore for the Wii U. I even mentioned this video and that supposedly support for firmware failures was extended to 2024 and they said they were not aware of any such programs.
Nintendo is actually surprising, they were still doing repairs on the OG NES until the mid 2000s. I think they supported it for like 20 years or so.
woudve just hacked the wiiu and transfered save data to sd card and maybe backup the digital games if id really wanted to, shoudnt be too hard to do and in my experience on the 3ds, its pretty easy to transfer save data to sd card with checkpoint and backup my cartridge games.
HOW
just how on so many things
like they had an original wii u unit from 2015???????
I legitimately have no idea how they would have an original unit from back then since australian stores usually dont have any cached stock of old consoles the moment the next gen comes out
it makes me wonder if they would repair my New 3DS XL
Fun Fact: The music that you used at 0:39 to 1:15 is known as The Storm Theme from Cranky Bugs, the Season 5 premiere episode of Thomas & Friends & you still kept the sounds of the storm & the out of control tramp steamer as well.
If it fits it fits
7:39 I would keep the broken one. And I would mabye try to repair it myself.
Also you could use that PS5 controller on your WiiU with a simple homebrew y'know😋
Dam what a good story
I would’ve bought a temporary wii u from ebay to transfer all the data to then bring the broken one to nintendo for a replacement and then transfer everything to the new console when I get it back.
The Wii U is the only Nintendo console I have never owned, indeed my only current gen console is my Switch and I loves that to bits just super cool. Got here a Wii, Switch, GameCube and NES all running in fact every day for the last god knows years my daughter goes onto Sonic Adventure 2 to feed and breed her Chao and trust me she has bred some crazy Chao :)
Also buy a surge protector power board
I’ve looked into taking mine in, they don’t do it anymore
hope this guy buys a surge protector soon
I never owned a Wii U but I understand if all my data from my Wii which I have had since I was 8 years old was lost I would be so disappointed
i still play on my wiiu to this day
I would probably get the brand new Wii U, like damn a BRAND NEW Wii U in 2023?!
As someone who is into a lot of modding, and that you said you consider buying a new wii u and transfering data,i would keep the original wii u.
wii u very underrated system
I'd get the replacement unit but demand they put the games I bought already back on it
You know you can redownload things you’ve already purchased right
I loved my Wii U, I played Xenoblade Chronicles X for 16 hours when it came out
16 hours straight? Because that's not too much. 😄
@@HustlerHorstRuediger it is for a regular person..
