The level design of Unleashed and Generations can NEVER be topped nowadays. Everyone keeps saying how Frontiers and Shadow Generations' level design is "peak" and "improves" from generations. They don't know squat. The level design in Unleashed and Generations feels like a rollercoaster of twists and turns.
Have you played Shadow Generations? Frontiers I can agree because half of it's level design is just pulled from older sonic games including SA2, Unleashed, and Gens. Shadow gens has legitimately incredible level design and truly 3D stages all the way through. It is up there and surpasses Unleashed and Sonic Gens. I grew up with Gens and Unleashed and I do think Shadow Gens does surpass those two in certain ways
@@crestofhonor2349 Yes I have played Shadow Generations but to me, everything almost felt like square platforms in a grid instead of making them spread out most of the time. @@dshaynietheawesome Yeah but you are still using a modern PC to play the game, are you playing on 2011 specs? It doesn't look like you mention the specs at all in the video. The Xbox 360 version has 5 times faster load times than the PS3 version when played on a Series X, but that's because of the hardware, not because the Xbox version is 500% more optimized. It feel good to play again sonic generations after a lot of years and some flops (looking at you sonic forces) that makes me apreciate the game, and the 3ds version has some good levels and objectly a better final boss and the classic way to get chaos emeralds through special stages
4:14 those glitches weren't patched out of the PC release. They just became more harder to do likely because of the boost to 60fps. good question, i imagine a potential ds version would look identical to sonic rush, rush adventure and colours on the ds but with with generations levels and probably make sonic’s moveset the same as generations 3ds, but classic sonic that would of been interesting to see. the potential psp version well i can honestly see it being really similar to the version we got on 3ds just with no bottom screen, the assets are low poly enough. and im not sure if this was confirmed but rumor was sonic colours started life as the wii port of sonic generations and as development went on they ended up turning it into it’s own game so i reckon if generations did come out on wii it’s gameplay would be the same as colours but i don’t know what they’d do about levels because of limitations maybe thats why it became sonic colours.
@dshaynietheawesome Somebody got ahold of a prototype of the psp version, but it was unfortunately corrupted beyond belief, however somebody managed to dump some of the assets which showed the 3ds version of mushroom hill.
BTW you can just disable HDCP in the PS3 settings. You can't watch movies on it if you do, but nothing prevents you from both running and capturing games. No need for the splitter
I have SG on my XONE and i think that game plays through emulation but the QSS doesn’t work in generations. tilting the analog stick up, holding down the B-button and using quickstep doesn’t really do anything compared to unleashed where sonic speeds up at a rapid pace
Good video but there is one glaring omission, you didn't bring up the massive amount of very noticeable input lag on the PS3 version. I pre-ordered the 360 version, beat it 100% when it was new, then a few years later bought it on Steam, and played about halfway. Just recently I started playing the PS3 version, and wanted to complete it before the remaster came out. I finally got the Platinum Trophy, which was unnecessarily frustrating, I'm glad to finally be done with it. The PS3 version was shockingly bad, because of how sluggish Sonic feels due to the high input latency. Its extremely obvious, and if you do a web search, other people bring it up as well. Did you not feel how laggy it was?
really? I didn’t notice any input lag at all a game like sonic generations has to be responsive to be played well and between every version i’ve played I’ve never noticed s difference
@@dshaynietheawesome Yeah, I'm not alone, I don't know if I can post links, but if you do a web search, other people complain about it as well. I don't notice input lag in other games, even on PS3, but Sonic Generations is extremely laggy. My PS3 is set to 1080p output, so I'll try playing it at 480p to see if it helps. My TV is LG CX, and I don't have that motion smoothing (soap opera effect) turned on.

hey bro cool video but u cant really make an objective assessment about the performance of the pc version because it's all subjective to what hardware you use to run the game. the xbox 360 and ps3 will always perform the same to each person who owns one because the hardware is constant; because the hardware varies, there's no real "difference" in performance that you can compare it to. so like, maybe you have better loading screens on *your* pc, but someone else with potentially slower memory reading speeds might have times similar to the console versions. overall, rest of the assessments outside of that are good.
it’s a 2011 game, if you have any gaming pc from the past 8 or 9 years it’s gonna play as well as it can, we aren’t counting low end laptops or anything here
@ I mean ok I guess but I think at least to specify that performance is much more variable because pc hardware is much more inconsistent than console hardware is an important note to make, you might say “it takes 2 seconds to load a stage” doesn’t really apply, like yeah I’d expect the game to have a low bar for performance but still, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Kind of the issue when comparing PC versions to console to performance, you can’t. There’s no one unified personal computer to objectively compare to
backwards compatibility on xbox one and xbox series x as well as ps4/ps5 via psnow is covered in this video but sonic x shadow generations is not the topic of today’s video

Sonic X Shadow Generations is really amazing remaster it looks almost same like on a PS3, but a little better and there's Shadow's game in that game too what's so awesome because I've never had Shadoe the Hedgehog game that I've always wanted, but now I can play as Shadow at the first time after Sonic Forces it's the best time to play Sonic games where is Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog turns into 20 years old in the next year 2025! Can't wait i'm so excited for Sonic 3 movie what's the best movie of the year and Sonic X Shadow Generations is the best game of the year only because it's Fearless year of Shadow! I'm the Ultimate lifeform Shadow the Hedgehog! Chaos control! I am All of Me
Vector caused me so much pain in the 100%
Also PSnow doesn't exist anymore, the service shut down a few years ago and several games including all the Sonic games got delisted and cannot be played anymore
At points I had difficulties hearing what was being said over the music
I LOVE SONIC GENERATIONS!
Gens 3DS is incredibly underrated
This Makes Me Wonder What The Canceled DS, Wii And PSP Versions Would Have Looked Like
good question, i imagine a potential ds version would look identical to sonic rush, rush adventure and colours on the ds but with with generations levels and probably make sonic’s moveset the same as generations 3ds, but classic sonic that would of been interesting to see.
the potential psp version well i can honestly see it being really similar to the version we got on 3ds just with no bottom screen, the assets are low poly enough.
and im not sure if this was confirmed but rumor was sonic colours started life as the wii port of sonic generations and as development went on they ended up turning it into it’s own game so i reckon if generations did come out on wii it’s gameplay would be the same as colours but i don’t know what they’d do about levels because of limitations maybe thats why it became sonic colours.
@dshaynietheawesome Somebody got ahold of a prototype of the psp version, but it was unfortunately corrupted beyond belief, however somebody managed to dump some of the assets which showed the 3ds version of mushroom hill.
I recommend banding the music in Premiere or just turning it down. The music is a bit too loud and can make the dialogue hard to hear.
BTW you can just disable HDCP in the PS3 settings. You can't watch movies on it if you do, but nothing prevents you from both running and capturing games. No need for the splitter
the ps3 cannot disable it like ps4 or ps5
I have SG on my XONE and i think that game plays through emulation but the QSS doesn’t work in generations. tilting the analog stick up, holding down the B-button and using quickstep doesn’t really do anything compared to unleashed where sonic speeds up at a rapid pace
I noticed they included the cutscene in the 2024 version 8:21
it is not
Wasn't PSNow taken away like months ago
Months? Isn't It Like Years?
PS+ streaming is basically the same as PSNow, but I don’t think Generations is on PS+.
@@hrrrrghOtacon No It Isn't. I Know It Because I Had Gens On PsNow. And It Took It From Me >:(
Good video but there is one glaring omission, you didn't bring up the massive amount of very noticeable input lag on the PS3 version.
Did you not feel how laggy it was?
really? I didn’t notice any input lag at all
a game like sonic generations has to be responsive to be played well and between every version i’ve played I’ve never noticed s difference
@@Chocoburger tell me is it possible the input delay is coming from the controller? because i had that once with my dualshock3 and fixed it by opening it up and cleaning out dust and hair but it wasn't specific to sonic generations
@@dshaynietheawesome I used two controllers, a DualShock 3, and a fresh controller from Retro Fighters called the Defender. Other people have complained about the lag even 13 years ago, some people are more sensitive than others to lag. For me, Sonic Generations PS3 is perhaps the laggiest game I can think of.
Try the game again and focus as hard as you can, press Jump and try to see the difference between button press and on screen action.
i never thought id say i want to play a sonic game but i am now
im sad that this one wasnt on wii u something more powerful than 3ds
well sonic generations was in development for over two years, released in 2011 and the wii u released at the end of 2012 so that just wasn’t gonna happen
@@dshaynietheawesome eh i dont blame sega it was a failed console too
I didn't even know there was a difference between a white and black X box 1. So apparently i own an X box 1 s
@@graysonproductions6227 S was the second model of xboxone which was slimed and more power efficient and added the ability to watch 4K media

i envy unleashed wii/ps2 i could have gotten rush 3 before colors ds
12:07 says the same people who made sonic 4
I'm really disappointed and annoyed that the 3DS version doesn't do all the handheld levels and instead choses random stages that dont really make sense for sonic.
Why do you race Metal on Casino Night and Silver in Colors???

yo do you want my copy of the 360 version of Generations? you’ve got a bit more than a few scratches there haha. my copy in very good condition i just don’t have a case for it. i don’t give a flip about payment i just don’t play it enough to justify it collecting dust in my limited physical game collection. i live in the US and can probably fit in in an envelope
thank you for the offer but a U.S 360 game won’t run on a pal console, even so over the span of the playthrough eventually my copy just kinda stopped crashing no idea why 🤷♂️
@@dshaynietheawesome ahhhh ok! thank u for the video this was very entertaining to watch :)
Bro I got a sonic forces speed battle ad what
Should I get the 3ds version? (I have the new one)
if you’ve never played the 3ds version i’d always recommend giving it a try just
for how different of an experience it is
@@Woomy-grylls2048 3DS version is just an okay game and SG is really great, but SXSG is the way to go for sure now
@@TheDogIn2020I already played sonic x shadow generations that’s why I’m asking
@@dshaynietheawesomealright man thank you 😄
@@dshaynietheawesomebtw great video
sadly i cant play the 3ds version of sonic gens coz i snapped my 3ds while tryna get the chaos emerald
Did you ever play Sonic Lost World 3DS? It has the worst Special Stages in the series.
hey bro cool video but u cant really make an objective assessment about the performance of the pc version because it's all subjective to what hardware you use to run the game. the xbox 360 and ps3 will always perform the same to each person who owns one because the hardware is constant; because the hardware varies, there's no real "difference" in performance that you can compare it to. so like, maybe you have better loading screens on *your* pc, but someone else with potentially slower memory reading speeds might have times similar to the console versions. overall, rest of the assessments outside of that are good.
it’s a 2011 game, if you have any gaming pc from the past 8 or 9 years it’s gonna play as well as it can, we aren’t counting low end laptops or anything here
@ I mean ok I guess but I think at least to specify that performance is much more variable because pc hardware is much more inconsistent than console hardware is an important note to make, you might say “it takes 2 seconds to load a stage” doesn’t really apply, like yeah I’d expect the game to have a low bar for performance but still, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Kind of the issue when comparing PC versions to console to performance, you can’t. There’s no one unified personal computer to objectively compare to
What about next gen ports?
backwards compatibility on xbox one and xbox series x as well as ps4/ps5 via psnow is covered in this video but sonic x shadow generations is not the topic of today’s video
19:56 I heard that
My dude, the music drowns out your voice throughout the whole video!
Btw PS Now doesn't exist anymore, and Sonic Generations isn't available on PS Plus Premium for no reason
Qss isn’t in any version of Gens
Sonic 2 and 3 should have a 2 3d remake
"Soon", Huh? More Like 12 DAYS AGO!!!
this video was meant to come
out before then
this comes out after the game releases
written a month and a half before the game came out but ya know me, taking far too long to finish editing my videos 😅
@@dshaynietheawesome hello fellow australian sonic fan
I only play on switch
the mega drive is not in sonic x shadow
I REPEAT
THE MEGA DRIVE IS NOT IN SONICxSHADOW
0:06 I saw what you did there
The music is so loud I can barely hear you
Fun fact, the Sonic Generations remaster has all of the weird quirks the original console versions did. Terrible texture resolution. Low res shadows. Low res reflections. The same pop in, in stages at least, sometimes where it never was in the original(idk about cutscenes, I skipped them all). The remaster is actually worse than the original PC port. I wouldn't recommend the remaster if you just want Gens
Yeah bro I have no idea where you got this from but I played the switch version and it looked and played well
@MusuemBucket I got it from playing the original and remaster back to back
@@MusuemBucket Also the Switch version is capped at 31 fps, which makes no sense. It doesn't divide by the Switch's own refresh rate, and the refresh rate of any standard monitor. So it causes minor stuttering. You gotta look for it, but it shouldn't be there. Doesn't help the original PC port ran at 60, so this should be 60 as well
@@xonact8855 it’s the Nintendo switch, you can’t have high expectations for a 7 year old toaster handheld. And even then, it still ran great and looked great like the pc version, besides the frame rate difference
