I think during that time Elvis was exploring his dark side and it just seemed weird that he had expressed that dark side? Because in that song “I am Saved” he’s expressing the Blood of Jesus notice how everything is red I’m thinking that’s his way of expressing that about the Blood 🩸 of Christ saving him. Then he wears all black in 68 comeback special. A big change? He’s taking you to church on one hand, then taking you to bed on the other hand 😂

Whitney Houston's mother Cissy was one of Elvis's back up singers, and he didn't let anyone disrespect his girls. He once threatened to cancel a gig, because they didn't want the back up singers using the front door.
I always thought that he would have been pleased that Cissy's daughter Whitney Houston later sang the song "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton. Elvis wanted to sing it but ran into issues with his manager wanting Dolly Parton to give up some of her rights to the song in order for Elvis to sing it. You can find RUclips videos of Dolly Parton talking about it. Very interesting!
She was only a very short time background at the opening shows at The International Hotel Las Vegas Nevada what would become Live Las Vegas. Only the opening shows instead of what Manny, claim to be that she was always a part of the backup singers, which is not true, They claim they know everything, but in fact they know nothing. Only want to seem like they know everything and ride the wave of 15 minute fame. I call that ego tripping.
I am so glad to see you younger people FINALLY discovering Elvis. Having been a fan for over 50 years, let me say this: God created the world in 7 days. On the 8th day, he created Elvis. God was showing off his best work that day. This man is not a result of mere genetics, God did this. His Gospel is unsurpassed. May I suggest: How Great Thou Art, Without Love, Where Did They Go Lord, Only Believe, You Gave Me A Mountain (from his Hawaii tour). Also, Just Pretend, Danny Boy, Amazing Grace. The list goes on. This is the greatest voice of any century. Enjoy and let me know if you want more suggestions. Try and look for live performances and also rehearsals of Gospel. He takes you to church with his gospel. His voice can do anything. His best ballad by far is Tomorrow Never Comes. Enjoy.
One more thing, His background singers "Sweet Inspirations" had a woman who named Cissy Houston perform with him for 5 weeks in Vegas. Whitney's mother...
When Elvis died way to young, he took the music to heaven. Can you imagine the jam session going on up there now. Pure talent and no auto tune or pitch control. Keep going down the Elvis rabbit hole.
Amen man. This is what America needs to get back to. Turn off the lights.. or Shut your eyes.. ignore skin color and just listen and feel it. To start- that opening dancer was INCREDIBLE. Elvis- ALWAYS incredible. I wish Elvis was still around because what an awesome champion for humanity. Today we could REALLY use a man/person like that to help people focus on real people vs what media and politics define us as.
Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis fooled around in the studio for a couple hours on 12/5/1956, "The Million Dollar Quartet" there are fourteen gospel cuts, along with blue grass, country, and rock. The only two complete songs are "Peace in the Valley" and "Like a Tree That's Planted by the Water I Shall Not Be Moved."
The beat, the sound of rock and roll comes from gospel music and he proved it by showing it. Elvis never denied his background. The racist political industry denied black Americans their due but people like Elvis refused to join in. He was ostracized for his actions.
As a singer In all ranges, Gospel was his favorite, and you can feel/hear it. Elvis goes beyond "listening " alone .Elvis was a example for MJ, just as he was , for everyone that came after Elvis..before anyone did anything ,Elvis did everything.
Elvis not only sings it but he feels it and makes you feel it too! He has an album that’s nothing but gospel. His performances “ How Great Thou Art “ and “ Peace In the Valley “ are spectacular. Look up his gospel album and listen to it. I think you’ll love it. I hope you react to more. Of course being born in 1959 Elvis was my first crush so it’s safe to say I am biased. I got Elvis albums for Christmas and birthdays. I practiced dancing and singing like him from the time I could walk or talk. Lol. Praying for you and your precious family 😊❤️🙏🏼
This boy was from Tupelo, Mississippi so he grew up singing in church and listening to the brothers of color and LOVED it! When you get a chance look up his first producer, Sam Phillips of Sun Records in Memphis. Sam WANTED to find a combination of the Black Delta music and a white kid. Sam gave all sorts of huge stars their start. Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, etc. Big piece of music history there. When you’re in Memphis, you can still tour the original studio with the museum and the original mics, etc.
Elvis LOVED gospel. He would keep his musician and entourage up all night after shows, just singing gospel. Someone asked him once why he just didn’t switch and do gospel full time. Elvis said because there were too many people dependent on his career for their own paychecks. And there is that myth that Elvis faked his death. Someone asked his ex wife Pricilla that if Elvis really were alive, what would he be doing? She said, preaching the gospel.
Lovin' it. ❤❤❤Elvis faced a lot of controversy during the Civil Rights Movement, because he sided with Blacks. Several songs he did added fuel to the fire, but he pushed thru that. Being raised in Tupelo, MS, he was exposed to a lot of Gospel. Living in Memphis, there was R & B everywhere, so it stands to reason he would sing those genres as well. He got me hooked on gospel. He has several albums that don't get much play anymore. You mentioned MJ and how he could have been influenced. The Jackson 5 came out in 1968. Isn't it ironic he married Elvis Presley's daughter? Elvis did Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers. It was beautiful.
Elvis won music awards for his gospel records. People forget this clip was from his 1968 comeback "Christmas" special it was more than a comeback special it was a Christmas holiday special that's why the show had lots of religious overtones, and tunes not to mention a tribute to Reverend M.L.K. at the closing of the show with the If I can dream song written specifically for this show. R I.P. M L.K./Elvis and all the brave souls that were assassinated in the 1950's,60's✌️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I am an Elvis fan from my childhood until now and I was listening to Elvis when he was still alive and I have heard many of his Gospel songs and probably every other song he sang except this one. So thanks for this 👍❤️
How I love gospel. I love the traditional hymns, and I love hearing performers use their talent to praise God. Thank you, God, for the blessings in my life.
American Trilogy from his Aloha From Hawaii concert is a must. That concert was the first satellite concert ever. I was maybe twelve years old and watched it with my dad. It was seen by about a BILLION people worldwide.
I believe it's like B.B. King Said, once something has been created or exposed, such as music, anyone regardless of race or ethnicity can add to, or take from it, and expand on it.
Elvis + Gospel=1. He always included some Gospel music in his shows. I understand that after many of his shows, he would sit in his dressing room and sing Gospel Hymns with the Stamps (they were his backup quartet/singers for years) for hours. He needed to unwind, and get back to his roots.
The 3 black ladies are his back up singers when he performed. When hElvis was supposed to perform in Texas they told him he could leave them home, he said if you want to perform they come with me. He was driven around a stadium before the concert and his 3 ladies were with him in a convertible….
These ladies are called the Blossoms, they are not his backup Singers the Sweet Inspirations. The '68 Comeback was one year before he hired the Sweet Inspirations and started performing in Vegas.
Elvis had Gospel Albums. Lots to listen to. My favorites when I was a kid were, "Peace in the Valley" , "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Absolutely Stunning!
Elvis singing gospel has always been a treat. It's so much a part of Elvis. I do believe each generation's music and dance drew from the prior generations. It's what makes some music or dance timeless. Watching the dancers from 40's & 50's dance to Uptown Funk really illustrates the beat does indeed go on.
Elvis is the only artist inducted into all five mayor music Halls of Fame; Rockabilly, Rock n Roll, Country, R&B and Gospel. Gospel was his first musical influence, and this is Elvis getting back to his roots after years in Hollywood making movies.
There's an older documentary out there called "Elvis and the Black Community" that may be instructive. It's on YT. BTW, Elvis' only Grammy was awarded for his work in Gospel music.
Out of the #1 records he had, the only Grammy Awards he ever received were for his Gospel Albums. And deservedly so. And until his death, he included gospel songs in each and every Live performance. ❤
Elvis's voice is NEVER better than when he sings gospel. You can hear the "gift" he was given.

Only a backup for 2 months. Sick and tired of the ignorance.
Love Elvis singing the song ' Crying in the Chapel ' brilliant !
yes!
absolutely!
Elvis was raised in gospel churches. He held on to those roots.
BP, if this gives you goosebumps you really have to hear him sing " How Great Thou Art"
He recorded multiple gospel albums. Gospel was his roots.
Enjoy.
Elvis always sang at least one gospel tune when he did his concerts.
You’ve got to listen and react to Elvis’s “If I Can Dream!” Like nothing else! 👏🏻
“So, how do you stay in such good shape?”
“I’m one of Elvis’ dancers”
“Got it. Say no more “
One more thing, His background singers "Sweet Inspirations" had a woman who named Cissy Houston perform with him for 5 weeks in Vegas. Whitney's mother...

She also did a few more in 1969 & 1970 she typed some with him
@@sandraturner4539 did not.
@@sandraturner4539Not in 70. She left the Sweet Inspirations after the summer engagement 1969 to raise up her kids.
When Elvis died way to young, he took the music to heaven. Can you imagine the jam session going on up there now.
Pure talent and no auto tune or pitch control. Keep going down the Elvis rabbit hole.
Wait til you hear him sing Peace in the Valley
One of my favorites. Thanks for the reminder.
Oh yes!! I would have to agree.
Yes!!!
That was my Grandmother's favorite song. I had it sung at her funeral.
You’ve got to watch Elvis and the black community!!
“we can continue to grow if we work together.”
Preach, brother!
Elvis’s voice in gospel outshines all other genres, he can practically bring you to the lord! ❤
Elvis Amazing Grace is the greatest song of all time.
Elvis is the only one that could put gospel, rock n roll and the blues altogether in one song and it be perfection!
You Gave Me a Mountain - Elvis
Elvis LOVED gospel. He would keep his musician and entourage up all night after shows, just singing gospel. Someone asked him once why he just didn’t switch and do gospel full time. Elvis said because there were too many people dependent on his career for their own paychecks. And there is that myth that Elvis faked his death. Someone asked his ex wife Pricilla that if Elvis really were alive, what would he be doing? She said, preaching the gospel.
Did you ever see one of those nights that was captured on video. It was a 3-4 song combination. It’s great!
Check out Elvis and the Black Community.
Gospel music was the only music that he got awards for. Elvis complete gospel album will make you shout!!!!!
You need to listen to Elvis sing How Great Thou Art❤
I am an Elvis fan from my childhood until now and I was listening to Elvis when he was still alive and I have heard many of his Gospel songs and probably every other song he sang except this one. So thanks for this 👍❤️
How I love gospel. I love the traditional hymns, and I love hearing performers use their talent to praise God. Thank you, God, for the blessings in my life.
American Trilogy from his Aloha From Hawaii concert is a must. That concert was the first satellite concert ever. I was maybe twelve years old and watched it with my dad. It was seen by about a BILLION people worldwide.
Amen. He was a pure gift
I believe it's like B.B. King Said, once something has been created or exposed, such as music, anyone regardless of race or ethnicity can add to, or take from it, and expand on it.
On a side note, if you want to watch one of Elvis's best performances ever, watch the Aloha From Hawaii concert 1973. It is AWESOME!!
Yup..I heard this story. He stood tall for what he believed was right. Respect to that man!
These ladies are called the Blossoms, they are not his backup Singers the Sweet Inspirations. The '68 Comeback was one year before he hired the Sweet Inspirations and started performing in Vegas.
Elvis made gospel cool.
Elvis had entire Gospel albums.
I have an Elvis gospel cd
I can’t wait till you react to some of Elvis’s classic gospel songs. They will truly touch your heart.
Hallelujah, Elvis just took us to church ❤🎉

why?
Elvis had Gospel Albums. Lots to listen to. My favorites when I was a kid were, "Peace in the Valley" , "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Absolutely Stunning!
Elvis always the best and all of his gospel albums are wonderful
Elvis did a lot of gospel music. Listen to his Peace in the Valley song.
His gospel records are amazing
Elvis is the only artist inducted into all five mayor music Halls of Fame; Rockabilly, Rock n Roll, Country, R&B and Gospel. Gospel was his first musical influence, and this is Elvis getting back to his roots after years in Hollywood making movies.
Elvis played and sang so many genre's. Love ❤him still and always will.
