My favorite Elvis quote ever is when a fan in the crowd called him the king and tried giving him a crown and he kindly declined saying, "There's only one king and his name is Jesus Christ."

MJ was most definitely inspired by Elvis, despite his protestations otherwise. Elvis was standing on his toes in the 50s. Great reaction! He also does a great rendition of How Great Thou Art (live 1972) if you get inspired to do more Elvis gospel.

Whitney Houston's mother Cissy was one of Elvis's back up singers, and he didn't let anyone disrespect his girls. He once threatened to cancel a gig, because they didn't want the back up singers using the front door.
I always thought that he would have been pleased that Cissy's daughter Whitney Houston later sang the song "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton. Elvis wanted to sing it but ran into issues with his manager wanting Dolly Parton to give up some of her rights to the song in order for Elvis to sing it. You can find RUclips videos of Dolly Parton talking about it. Very interesting!
She was only a very short time background at the opening shows at The International Hotel Las Vegas Nevada what would become Live Las Vegas. Only the opening shows instead of what Manny, claim to be that, she, was always which is not.
Elvis loved everyone the same. He showed everyone respect. He is the only singer I've seen in my 55 years that has been on all the charts Country, Rock, Soft Rock and Gospel. He had a talent like no other.
Elvis male backup singers consisted of the Jordanaires, a gospel group, also Cissy Houston, Whitney's Mom was part of his female backup singers. When performing on the road after the last set he and some of the member would spend hours singing Gospel music.
I think during that time Elvis was exploring his dark side and it just seemed weird that he had expressed that dark side? Because in that song “I am Saved” he’s expressing the Blood of Jesus notice how everything is red I’m thinking that’s his way of expressing that about the Blood 🩸 of Christ saving him. Then he wears all black in 68 comeback special. A big change? He’s taking you to church on one hand, then taking you to bed on the other hand 😂
Elvis anyone who knows his real history would not say he stoled their music. Elvis was humble and his gospel music could make you cry. You should hear him sing “ In the garden”. The man could lift your soul with his renditions of gospel songs. Those you know he really felt his music. The man was really really religious.
Elvis loved Gospel music and insisted he be allowed to do a gospel song on Ed Sulivan with his back up group at the time the Jordanaires. You should check it out. "Peace in the Valley" was the song they did.
I am an Elvis fan from my childhood until now and I was listening to Elvis when he was still alive and I have heard many of his Gospel songs and probably every other song he sang except this one. So thanks for this 👍❤️
One of the most common sentiments from the uneducated about Elvis is to say he "stole black music". Reality is that Elvis was incredibly eclectic and was never afraid to stand up for the roots of where he came from and where his inspiration was. Whether it was black or white or purple, Elvis could kill it and still give props.
Elvis went up on his toes in Jail House Rock in the black and white days, back before this, so it does go back a long ways. I am old enough to have been watching black and white television as a Child and I watched the movie on television at the time, I watched every Elvis I possibly could growing up and his television specials as well. I watched him in concert to the world as it happened on television and every other concert he was on on the television. He was a picture of good health and a moral force for good until after his mother died and his health went down hill. I live in Elvis' hometown and grew up next to his cousin. When Elvis would ride his motorcycle down from Memphis to Tupelo to visit family and pull into Mr. Harold Ray's, I'd run over and beg Elvis for a ride. I was around 3 years old and only knew he was the sweet man who took me for ice cream and sang to me. I can remember him asking my mother to take me riding. She wasn't happy, but Elvis would put on that grin and say, I can't tell her no. You need to listen to "In the Ghetto," by Elvis. The more things change, the more things stay the same unfortunately.
I saw a special on Elvis by a lot of old time black artists. they all were talking about how awesome he was to the community. He actually refused to play huge venues in the south that didn't want him to bring his backup singers. When they folded and told him it was OK to bring his black background singers with him, he had the sistas brought in like royalty in convertibles like beauty queens in a parade. It was AWESOME
@@hisprincess20121 The best version of Bridge Over Troubled Water was from 1970 when he's in the white jumpsuit, so it HAS to be a reaction to that performance.

The beat, the sound of rock and roll comes from gospel music and he proved it by showing it. Elvis never denied his background. The racist political industry denied black Americans their due but people like Elvis refused to join in. He was ostracized for his actions.
Elvis had over 400 recordings. His way of singing a song and the next time he would sing it different. Thank you for this. His live shows and recorded gospels are his best. To my way of thinking. Thank you again.
This clip is from Elvis' '68 Comeback Special after he finished making movies in Hollywood. What you might also want to know is Elvis was good friends with B.B. King and used to go to his club all the time in Memphis when it wasn't usual for a white dude to do back in Memphis in that time.. Elvis also refused to perform in Dallas because they didn't want his black backup singers in the show. So the venue said ok and Elvis made sure they rode in the car with him in the opening act so they would be in the spotlight and he made sure they were treated with the respect they deserved. That story was told by one of the Inspirations herself. Elvis never saw color. Also, he admired Jackie Wilson so much that he use to go to his shows in Vegas. When Jackie unfortunately had a stroke on stage & and remained in a coma for many years, Elvis had flowers sent to his room on a steady basis right until Jackie's passing. He also sent chocolates to the nursing staff who took care of him. People who talked trash about Elvis either did it because they didn't know anything about him or because they were simply jealous. Elvis was a one in a million entertainer and will always be the King. Although, one of Elvis' buddies who attended a Chuck Berry show with Elvis remarked that Elvis said "now he's the real king of rock and roll" about Chuck Berry.
Elvis LITERALLY grew up in the black church and in a black neighborhood. He didn't steal the music of the black community. It was his music, too, because he grew up I the same culture.
You have a beautiful soul. If we all had your mindset, this world would be perfect. Im Danish Scottish and comanche. All warriors, all defeated, but I'll never see them as victims. We need all the people. Much love, and God bless you

The beat, the sound of rock and roll comes from gospel music and he proved it by showing it. Elvis never denied his background. The racist political industry denied black Americans their due but people like Elvis refused to join in. He was ostracized for his actions.
Take my hand precious Lord. Great gospel by elvis
“Just a Closer Walk With Thee” 👍
Also: “How Great Thou Art” ❤️
Crying in the chapel is great as well
No body could take you to church like Elvis
His gospel records are amazing
Elvis had over 400 recordings. His way of singing a song and the next time he would sing it different. Thank you for this. His live shows and recorded gospels are his best. To my way of thinking. Thank you again.
Elvis is the only one that could put gospel, rock n roll and the blues altogether in one song and it be perfection!
Listen to amazing Grace Elvis Presley
I explain that all the time!
Man, you just gotta go down the Elvis rabbit hole. YOU.WILL.BE.BLOWN.AWAY.
💯
You have a beautiful soul. If we all had your mindset, this world would be perfect. Im Danish Scottish and comanche. All warriors, all defeated, but I'll never see them as victims. We need all the people. Much love, and God bless you
Elvis is gospel, I think that is where it gets lost. You can’t steal a voice or a soul-he never stole anything. RIP Elvis!
Its a gift from GOD , the gift needs to be shared
Amen. He was a pure gift
If you look at the videos from the end of the 50 and beginning of the 60 Elvis does go up on his toes himself while he sings.
