- I am shocked, and appalled at how terrible the Hydro MC is in Genshin Impact. Maybe this is why they didn't even show them off in the reveal! I cannot recommend anyone waste materials building this character.

His skills feel like something they thought about at the start of 1.0 but couldn't add it because Fontaine hasn't been released yet.

Electro is pretty good as a budget Fischl or Beidou if you want a taser team (like with Xingqiu and Sucrose) and are missing one of the two.

What makes me angry is Hydro!Mc was such an easy slamdunk. We don't have many good AOE sub dps Hydro characters. Xingqiu and Yelan are both largely single target. Kokomi's Aoe is limited to a smaller locked range and she's more of a healer. Mona has a big explosive burst. There were room to make the Hydro MC function without encroaching or powercreeping other Hydro Units and Hoyo just went the worst possible route.
True, it feels like perhaps Tartaglia and Ayato are some of the only good AOE hydros out there. I can't think of any others

The most disappointing thing about his skill is that it looks like it has a lot of range like bow character but it does not

Usually the Traveler abilities are a worse version of the Archons, but this time MC abilities are similar to Neuvillette.

He is the reincarnation of the Water Sovereign Dragon (the one that many lore theorists thought was reincarnated as Kokomi). He was originally meant to be reincarnated in Enkonomiya through one of the Coral Defenders boss duo Vishaps but as they were corrupted by the Cryo and Electro elements, he was forced to reincarnate in human form.
Suffice to say that he does not need the status of archon to be powerful.
If he was the archon we would've had a nice balance of male to female archons but this is genshin so zero expectations on that front
Mihoyo has has gotten lazy with the traveler.. notice that they don’t even have an elemental final auto attack anymore? The only versions that has it is geo and anemo.
I mean, I'd rather a talent that improves their existing skills rather than a extra hit thats locked behind a full normal attack combo when you cant even infuse
Who the heck even uses Traveler as a "Normal attack" Main DPS Carry?
They are better off with the Usual Energy recharge Skill/Burst Spam Quickswap type of Playstyle...
than staying in the field for TOO LONG just to have 1 proc of measly damage passive....and probably waste DMG setup for other members of the team....on how selfish Main DPS builds are.

@@datpurp9564 Ok one: I like having field time for my characters, Hell, the reason i have C6 Kazuha is just so that i can have him on field for longer. And two: i'd rather use Yunjin with him than traveler for the same reason, the traveler's normal attacks aren't worth investing into. Having yunjin doesnt change anything when there's better normal attack characters you could use.

Dehya is only bad in damage no? But her aplication and tank kit is better than Diluc DPS who can lose to a four star DPS in damage, probably diluc only beats the four star DPS with constelations.

@@mauriciorosademoraes9209dehyas bad in everything, dmg mitigation just use a shield, damage really low, bad downtime, no hydro applicator synergy, insufficient pyro app, etc. a well invested diluc can dish out 80k-150k though, hes really not that bad

The hydro application of the water gun is actually rather quick, because it ticks so darn fast, and you can technically spray it in a multiple target scenario, or spam one target in duel, so it's rather flexible. You COULD in theory use HMC as a Hydro driver in a reaction team, and he can heal himself and teammates and provide a shield at higher constellations. Add Collei, Fischl and Xiangling and you've got yourself a F2P friendly reaction team that will do good damage, running on a fairly tight rotation, and regarding the burst, just with Anemo MC, if you can position the enemy near the edge of an arena or some kind of wall, you can do some cute things with it.
But honestly, this kit blows. I burst out laughing when I first used the hold skill. It looks so janky, and staying in place firing off that pea shooter is practically the anti-thesis of my Genshin playstyle. I'm 100% gonna stick to DMC. Thank God we have that one good kit for the Traveler so we don't really have to worry about his other kits even existing. Can't wait to touch base in Natlan for the 5 primo achievement and laugh at that one as well before teleporting back to Sumeru real quick to get my good character back.

Pretty sure the burst is worse, like it goes through structures/constructs and walls.
Fun fact: Hydro Traveler's burst just phases out of the walls of the Spiral Abyss. Hydro Traveler burst is affected by no-gravity so its just aimlessly moving forward till it dies. That's the issue with thr burst. It is aimless in trajectory.
it's always sad that mihoyo just constantly take mc for granted. It's really clear that they don't care enough to make mc better and that their priority is for us to pull for character.
Its really sad that Traveller gets the end of the stick. Only Genshin Team is like this. Hoyo proved already they can make an MC with good or atleast decent kit in their other games. Hell even storywise and character wise, Traveller is the worst MC across the Hoyoverse. Well least interesting to me as they are very dull and having a bad kit (except Dendro) doesn't help at all.

Geo Traveler - use to go out of bounds in the game and break it
Electro Traveler - no one knows
Dendro Traveler - Good Dendro application for best reactions
Hydro Traveler - shoots bubbles for show and dies
When you factor in that Traveler is ALWAYS a weaker version of the element's archon, we should expect the Hydro Archon at par with Barbara 😅

appart from the fact that the skill is very strange, I simply HATE that the bubble from the burst IS NOT STOPPED by a construct (like Zhongli pillar). Furthermore, I still hate the fact that the bubble just travels foward instead of rotating around you (which would make it comparable to Kaeya, Xiangling and other units whose ult travels with you!)

I knew a review like this was coming the moment I tried him. They're gonna have to give a useful artifact set or character that synergizes for hmc to not be dog shit. Given the traveler is usually a knock off archon, I have to wonder whether I should even be saving for Focalors at this point. Total shame, becuse I'm loving 4.0 otherwise.

you know what would make this traveler "saveable" ? If they add a pyro unit, that does a VERY SIMILAR burst, and they travel together at the same speed, doing damage and reactions at the same time, that's literally THE ONLY way to fix it.

I was lagging real bad the day of release but I tried hydro travelers ult and it looked like it exploded on contact on an enemy and created some kind of a zone dealing constant hydro damage. But I shortly disconnected after. I was so hype for it when I got back on I can't say I wasn't dissapointed
How to fix hydro Mc: give him hydro infusion on last attack like Anemo and Geo, Let him be a sub dps by making his skill continue firing even after switching characters and moving. Make his burst last twice as long and travel to the closest enemy, after reaching enemy, explodes into a large aoe whirlpool pulling in and dealing continuous damage and healing to all enemies/standing in it

To fix it, they can even leave the skill the way it is.. just make the burst STEADY , or, taht follows the traveler around for that time duration.
They don’t expect much people to care about the traveler, so why bother 😅 that being said, not learning their mistakes with Dehya and proceeding to do this clearly shows they’re inside their own little bubble and don’t care what the community says

Alot of the early characters are. Bennett, Fischl, Sucrose. I would also include Jean in there given that they don't want to give us any form of good cleanse.

Not really a mistake. It was intentional on their part to make some of the early (1.0) four star units strong to help f2p players progress without any specific five star character.

A cool trick with hydro traveler is to go to character selection and switching to your prefered hydro 5star unit.
I dont even think the main issue is that the skill takes long. You do get super armor during your skill and if you position yourself in the enemy's face those bubbles can spawn ontop of you so she almost feels like Dehya, but Hydro. This would be a decent hydro turret for hyperbloom teams if the skill was AOE splash and didnt have standard icd.
Hoyo's first 2 star DPS character lol
No lie, I've been on a recent revival of the Anemo traveller. He's one of my re-new favorite characters to play. He's my on-field DPS, and Xiangling is my off field dps. One of my favorite attacks has always been picking up guoba with wind blade and effectively using guoba like a flamethrower. Anemo Traveler is C6 and xiangling is C6.
This flamethrowing fun factor was only increased by the inclusion of dendro. Now, I have added my C6 Yao Yao to the team. The best part? Wind blade effects Yao yao's yuegui in the same manner as guoba. So, I drop both of the Pokemon, switch to traveller, he outstretches his arms for the wind blade, and then both yuegui and guoba are sent forward to attack.
It looks so cool, like he's commanding the Pokemon to attack! And then everything gets swirled together. It's no longer anemo swirling pyro. It's anemo swirling pyro and dendro together. Anemo traveller cannot swirl dendro, but he can pickup and control both yuegui and the bountiful cores. The result is dmg much greater than before.
His tornado gets ragged on too, but it's much better than this droplet of water. His tornado can pick up guoba and yuegui. It will infuse with pyro, and yuegui will cause constant dendro damage inside of the tornado. My fourth character is mona, so there are usually bountiful cores on the field too. Her taunt is almost like a Pokemon too, not quite, but well enough to suit my makeshift Pokemon team (I thought about using fischl for my Pokemon team, but I like that wind blade and tornado can pickup and control the bountiful cores, so i really wanted a hydro).
Mona is first in rotation, so hydro get reaction first, and then the second in rotation, xiangling, recieves the TTDS boost. Next is yao yao and yuegui, followed by anemo wind blade or tornado. Any enemy caught within the grips of the traveller's tornado will suffer pyro dmg, anemo dmg, swirl, burning dmg, and often burgeon dmg. The tornado is his last recommended talent to level, but my tornado is super deadly to any enemies that can be picked up by the winds. And if not, the tornado still does 20% anemo/infused-element reduction (at C6). That becomes a nice addition to the VV resistance reduction, regardless if the winds do not carry away large enemies.
Long story short, anemo traveller is way better than the hydro. His tornado gets ragged on, but it has way more utility than this water droplet.
On top of there being some incredible hydro units like Kokomi, Yelan, Xingqiu, and Nilou it was going to be hard pressed to even rationalize using hydro traveller
I was hoping somehow he have a special mechanics that can helps boost Ally's max HP etc. or maybe like an emergency healing that can pop off whenever anyone in the party drops to a certain HP, or even have a function in the Bloom/Superbloom teamcomps.. but this? I was looking for a buildguide for Hydro MC bcs yknow, the new Ousia mechanics and my traveller is at Lvl90. But with this kit, I'd rather build Lynette for Ousia mechanics.

I'm very worried about the Ousia/Pneuma system applied to combat. In Spyral Abyss we'll probably be FORCED to use Fontaine characters in order to do enough damage to 36 stars it, and if this is gonna be true, I'll be so pissed at Hoyoverse, I was already kinda annoyed by the Burgeon only side the last time but it was doable overall, but force me to use new characters even if I don't like them over the one I already have is bs. I hope I'm wrong
I think you can still brute force the Abyss with well built chracters similar to some people killing Asimon without Dendro. So far, the Ousia/Pneuma system only helps by stunning or disabling the powerful attacks of certain enemies.
it\s more for disabling enemies abilities not to do more damage. i think your statement will age poorly trust me. They even said that they don\t want it to be a intricate system like the elemental system in the 4.0 livestream.

I strongly believe the Ousia/Pneuma only allow you to stun/disable enemies for a while, the damage gain aint that much.
I'm sure brute forceing will still be possible, but for 36 stars? every second matters if u're f2p/low spender, I really hope it will not change that much guys
Im so glad you pointed this out. I main mc in lore events EVERYTIMES without bringing any team member. And i build mc as solo unit. Was hoping for healer mc so i can finally be less struggling. Plot twist this bozo deplete hp for E skill 🗿
As a noob I was having a blast with her combined with Fischl. It made killing flying enemies a breeze and fun.
If his skill shot out from his groin area as opposed to his fingers I’d probably end up building him out lol

I don't know about damage but I personally find his ability fun. Planning to pair him with Nahida and squirt my enemies to death.

Yeah, I've gotta admit, I'm not overly impressed with Hydro Traveller. To be fair, my talents are all at 1 at the moment (can't even start farming the domains till tomorrow), but still, I've got an Aquila Favonius and a cracked set of artifacts on her, so she should be doing half-decent damage, but no....she hits like a wet blanket!
I'm only using her in hydro spec for now because of that new ousia/pneuma mechanic. I've got Lyney and Lynette though, so once they're both at an adequate 'fighting level', my Traveller is going back to Dendro spec! I actually use Dendro MC all the time in my Nilou team, but that team is all screwed up at the moment with Traveller being in Hydro spec!
It's a shame they didn't make Hydro Traveller a healer. Hydro has got far too many good characters so they needed to make Hydro MC stand out a bit. They didn't.
For me this traveler is pretty good, He is an Sub dps, Just put some xiangling/dendro units and hold E, he will deal an pretty nice dmg, useful on bosses since theres gonna be more than one hit, he can self heal and even restore his own energy, its not BAD its just HELLA WEIRD

Basically, what Mtashed is saying is that there's no reason to switch from dendro to hydro once I get to the port city. Too bad, DMC is still a good character for roaming around the overworld and even useful in past Abysses. I had hoped that Hoyo learned something following the previous lackluster MC versions (especially electro MC).
Would having a Jade Cutter make any difference? Despite the kit sucking, the weapon would let Loomie kinda double-dip on HP for damage (Like DMC double-dips on EM). The new set + Jade Cutter gives enough crit. The trash C1 gives them energy. So one just needs to stack HP and crit damage.
In response to the title: No. Just because he/she can work in a Bloom team. Yup. That's the only reason and that's how broken things are with Dendron now.

omg what the hell you taking about..... 5:40 its a fking DMG bonus it not like adding a damage to the final value. It gets added up with the total attack, which means it benefits every multiplier, such as crit damage, elementary mastery, etc.

I assume there will be something story related to let Hydro Traveler get a boost to their kit if not, at least we know Furina kit is gonna be insane based on the mechanics of hydro traveler.
Consume HP for bonus damage esque, extremely selfish kit, continuous hydro damage AND knowing that all archons give some level of support whether it be dmg support or real support.
Furina = Main Dps/Sub Dps + Buffer
i am extremely sad about this, Aether is my main and i was really looking forward to playing hydro.... guess im stuck with dendro for now... I SWEAR TO GOD IF HIS PYRO AND CRYO POWERS SUCK TOO I WILL CRY

I'm an Aether main too and man this disappoints me so much. This was my most anticipated element and it is just terrible. I really have little hope for the next elements, it really feels like dendro traveler was a mistake. They're defo gonna release more half-baked for the traveler.
I think Hoyoverse tried to overcorrect itself because Dendro MC was too strong. I think for a new account, Hydro MC is decent but there are indeed better hydro chracters for veteran players. It just goes to show how OP the Hydro element is as it is able to react well with other elements.
Raiden and Nahida off field skills being activated, swapping into HMC and building HMC with the new skill damage artifact set can do SOME kind of damage but...yeah. that's almost your only option to get any use out of him

New players are gonna suffer from this. This is outrageous, its unfair, how can Hoyo do this? If they be hating on the poster boy the least they could've done is put him as healer

I was really hoping they'd finally made Traveler good at something. It doesn't have to be S tier, that's fine, but at least make an A tier traveler. It's the main character of the story!

@amlightspeedy3090 because whoever call the shots, are arrogant narcissistic people, who only think they can be right all the time. they can't care less if they actually right or not, because in their mind they are always right. Its like kind that says "the balls is mine, so whoever want to play follows my rule" leaving out anyone who doesn't like their rules.

Now I'm a little worried about hydro archon kit. All the previous traveler are budget version of the archons on each element so far
hydro mc ironically has a similar kit to Neuvillete based on leaks

The neat part of the traveler is that they have a homing feature to their skill. That being said, it's still incredibly easy to miss shots.
He seems nice for morgana to keep enemies frozen in combination with an anemo unit. I have no idea if his burst stops if it’s on a frozen unit. If it does, in combination with ayaka and venti seems like a better synergy than mona if you don’t have kokomi

As long as hyperbloom exist it doesn't matter how much damage your hydro characters do it matters how much EM your character triggering the bloom cores into sprawling shots deal, everything else is about how fast you can apply the element in question. Hydro traveler can AIM his shots meaning he can ensure fresh hydro application at will by aiming at different targets its very hand y if pretty niche

Is it just me or his ultimate ability resembles one of the geo vishap boss domain(azdaha?) water abilities that spin around the arena?
Traveler will interact with the Pneuma mechanism to get a Pneuma-aligned DMG bonus. His/her Pneuma attacks can counter and remove the shield or ultimate attacks of the opponent with Ousia. Like with Lynette (Ousia) Thats it I guess
My favorite part of these worst character videos is that i can see how wrong they turn out to be in the next couple of patches and enjoy the character's new playstyle and damage while i wait

@@YoshiAteTooManyYoshiCookies idk, I just enjoy characters I love, look at how everyone dunked on dehya and now her passive healing goes pretty well with furina’s healing passive, sure she might not be a dps but I mean not every character needs to be. Would it have been fun to one punch everything in the way? Yes very much, is it not fun rn? No, it’s still fun and finding ways to go around those limits the characters have is part of what makes the game even more fun!

The sad thing is that I see a lot of parts that COULD actually work rather well but its like they took a sudden wrong turn at every step when they almost got it right. This could have been a great (not necessarily god tier) unit with just a few smarter design choices. First off with the E ability, increase its range and give it a small splash effect so that when enemies are grouped up you can apply hydro to all of them not just 1 at the time, also allow the user to move while using it like a bow user can when doing charged shots. The Burst, instead of making it go in a straight line either make it stationary on the field of have it act like a homing attack that follows enemies around apply hydro to them repeatedly. The bonuses, for gots sake don't cap the bonus damage at 5k, we have so many op units at this point theres literally no reason to cap Hydro Traveler like that. Also change it so that the party heals are based off of the travlers max hp and not the unit its healing, scale the travelers skill damage off of their hp.
Boom a great unit that would be pretty fun to use. Not that hard.
They should have made the 'e' a tap with a certain amount of usages so that it doesn't restrict your movement, rather than a hold.
there is a huge upside to hydro traveler: there is one puzzle in marcotte station where you need them!
i only switched my mc to hydro to get the achievement but i switched it back to dendro after trying the skills.
now I'm worried on Furina's kit. please MHY don't screw her up.
His kit is like a minigame
It is kinda jarring comparing all the elements of the Traveler to the Fire Trailblazer in HSR, which sure it is definitely not the best character in the game but it is definitely a very useful and competent unit even if you compare it to the other characters of the same role. Let's hope that the Pyro and Cryo Traveler at least are comparable in viability to the Dendron Traveler
I tested and nothing can stop TRaveler ult, with traveler anemo, their ult could at least would stop on a wall, which would make them useful with Zhonli or close toa wall.
I feel like thats where dehya would be good, since she can tank and gives tenacity while not being on the field
Its definitely the range for me. I like to try out new traveller when I first explore a region and using her as hydro applicator for nilou nahida team would be fun if I could snipe enemies
They try to sell fontaine character with pneumousia mechanic. Traveler has it but they make his/her kit bad so player are still encouraged to pull for fontaine character which has pneumousia kit. They'll be useful in fontaine phase abyss

Traveler spent too much time with Klee in the last event, and now all he does is blow baby bubbles. That's the most pitiful set of abilities I've ever seen! 😭👶😭
Does anyone know how the thing that activates at intervals of 9 seconds on his e works? Like im so confused all that happends is a particle apears on your body. Like isnt there supposed to be a piercing attack?
It's new mechanic for Fountaine, Phenic (light) that meant to combine with Ousou (dark) to stun enemy or solve puzzle.

Only cope i have is that we have arkhe pneuma and ousia and this is probably the pneuma variant and we'll get an ousia variant. So desperate to not believe it's this bad i think we'll get a seperate kit

Hydro Traveler uses HP to deal damage, Furina will probably utilize the same HP drain and heal mechanic
