This song always brings tears to my eyes. I am a 70 year old man, and that was my prayer 6 years ago when my wife, and my love and partner in life, died. She was my second wife, but my only true love. We had 20 wonderful years together, and she made me a much better man. I love her and miss her so much. RIP Patty, my one true love
This song perfectly depicts how perceptions often change over time. The line "don't take the girl" doesn't change, but its' meaning and the motivation behind it does. Keep rockin' and stay heavy! Wishing everyone peace, love, and good happiness stuff from the mountains of northeastern Alabama 🤘
The mother doesn't die that's her at the end of the video running to the father and son with the picnic basket. When Tim says Johnny's daddy was taking him fishing when he was 8 years old at the end it was Johnny Jr.
TNT coming in hot as always. This is one of Tim’s top 3 hits all time. I can’t mess with it too much because I don’t need to be seen with that ugly cry in my life, but this song was always a great depiction of how life is beautiful yet fragile and how quickly it can change.
One of those songs that weigh heavy on your heart. I don’t know if anyone has suggested this one in the past. I go back to AM radio and hearing this one by Bobby Goldsboro. I recall it being a gray overcast rainy day when I first heard this song as I got ready to go out to the bus stop for school. The song was called Honey.
@@shelleytorok1406 I agree. Out of all those kind of songs this is #1 (for me, anyway). Always makes me get something in my eye. Definitely one for a "reaction video".
Exactly the kind of song that makes reaction videos great. You can only hear this song for the first time once. But seeing someone else go through the experience brings us back to the first time we heard it. Great reaction as usual, guys.
I'm not gonna lie, you could see that he would do the same thing for you girl. It was a all over his face. That's what we all strive for!!! That was amazing!!!!
Great reactions. Love the thoughts and keep up the great reactions. I believe the lady running to them at the end of the video is the mom...she was spared:)
I just found you guys and I love this song! BTW, she doesn't die. If you watch the end of the video, Johnny is taking "little Johnny" fishing and she comes running down with a picnic basket.
Your guys review of this one,.. spot on.. there's a lot of Old Country Tunes that tell great stories and still to this day tug on my heart strings. The late great Townes Van Zandt was quoted saying, "pick it and it will never heal", he was great at picking the guitar Appalachian Style..
No body died! if go back to the ending of the video you will see the father holding hands with his son and the mother coming up behind them with a basket in her hands going to have lunch outside!!!!!
I love listening to some of my favorite and/or familiar songs thru your eyes (or is it ears 😉). You help me relive my own moments when I first heard the song(s). Thank you! I love you guys 💕 Don't stop what you're doing.
Don't fear. My first son was an emergency c-section, 2nd son was scheduled. My mother with my younger sister was on her death bed after c-section. Hemorrhaging softball size blood clots. Priest came and gave her last rights. She survived. She survived cancer, she is also dealing with fibromyalgia and vasculitis
I remember making people who didn't listen to country listen to this song. They all swore it had some kind of song 'magic' that made you cry. May be some truth to that, but I believe it's just good storytelling. You got to know the couple and now you don't know if she died or not....the song before the video was more impactful but the video made us speculate . There was a woman running at the end, was that her?!?! LOL fun memories.
Thank you guys for reacting to this Country song 1st of all, but watch the ending again and you'll see that it DIDN'T have a sad ending.........you'll see the mother running to them! God heard his plea....."take the very breath that you gave me, take the heart from my chest"!.......the family lived, all of them......
I have loved this song for a long time. I just wanted to tell you that in the video, the doctor says she won’t make it but he falls to his knees and pleads with God to take him instead but at the very end you see a woman with them taking the sun fishing. She makes it because he prayed to God to let her stay. It’s about how love is the strongest power in the world.
Yall should watch that video back. I was literally in TEARS watching what you mean to your man. Omg!!! I have that. It is so rare, but you can literally see that and how much he loves you in 30 seconds of that video about "his momma is fading fast." I lost it. That is what most women dream of. Watch his eyes on you when that's said. . .
This song makes me cry every time, and when yall were laughin over the beginnin, i was sittin there like "just u wait, its so bittersweet when you listen the second, third, time"
I know this is a reupload but she survived. The Johnny at the end is their son. She named him after his daddy. That's her running toward them with the basket at the end.
T AND T, to BOTH of you ... the very thing that PROVES that you are successful, is the person sitting right next to you !!! You are both very special people ... that is clear. Merry Christmas 🤶to you both !!! I hope you have many, MANY more ...
My mom always blared the radio as a kid on weekends, this is one of the first songs I remember, and have always pictured having a woman I loved this much. I think this type of love is lost these days, these type of men. It is sad, but it's real.
Country music has a certain heart and soul, or sometimes attitude, which is hard to pin down but you know it when you hear it. Even artists who's sound isn't at all traditionally country, Keith Urban for example, connect somehow.
Such a great reaction. There's a happy ending. The "Girl" now the mom lives. :). Country and "Oldies" { Rock-N-Roll } from the 50's and 60's are the 2 music genres I listen to the most ; but I listen to most genres.
She does not die. If you heard this on the radio you would not know this. But if you watch the video the music video you can see her in the end. She's the lady who's running to them as they're getting ready to go fishing.
Nice to know more and more current generation are opening to softer thoughtful music - music and song that doesn't beat you over the head with obscenities and vulgarity - AND - you can understand the lyrics - nice reaction
No that was them at the end taking their child fishing, You could see her running toward Johnny and the boy. I think they put that in there at the end so we weren't left hanging if she made it or not.
Johnny is actually johnny Jr's dad, the story is about why johnny Jr's mom isn't around and what johnny went through, hence the some day you'll understand lyric.. hence why the last part of the song is Johnny's daddy was taking him fishing when he was 8 years old
This is probably the one song that no matter how many times I hear it, I'm in tears by the end - even in public! I tend not to cry in public, but this song is just so..... UGH! /cryin'
This song really is something else, I can relate to this so much. When I was 5 years old my dad would take me fishing with his best friends daughter kaylinda and we would listen to this song. I felt the same way, I did not want her to come because my father was always helping her and cheering her on when she caught a fish. She was my childhood crush but we never dated. Looking back they were good times!
You can also among many other interpretations see the power of Love over the course of time portrayed in the song. At first it’s “dont take the girl” in the context of please take anyone else but her I don’t want her. The second instance of that phrase he is willing to trade all of his material possessions for her; the Love has become stronger. The third and final instance of the phrase “Don’t take the girl” he is willing to sacrifice his very life for her; the ultimate trade off for her; only the strongest of Love will bring someone to that point.
They did leave you hanging in the end about Mom being alive or dead. But the ending is little Johnny’s now taking his son fishing at 8 years old and it’s the circle of life….
Still watch Asia's channels still love metal melt down still love listening to Asia's music with her lovely voice and music just not around enough anymore to catch lives or financially able to support.
I believe that there are three places in music to still feel that connection. Country of course. R&B, Real Rhythm & Blues. And Singer-Song writers, who also tells a story about their life.
What’s your favorite song by Tim McGraw?
Down On The Farm
Blank sheet of paper!!!
Since I'm not especially familiar with his catalog, I'd have to say this song is my favorite.
Red ragtop or would like fries with that
Indian Outlaw
Never feel sorry about crying over a song...When a message hits you that hard, it's the ultimate tribute to an artist to cry...Love you guys!!!
Truth

Sorry to hear man! God bless you ! You will see her again
Stay strong brother she loves you we love you
im 40 and i cry and single .....i lost a few
take care
I'm only 40. My wife is on her second diagnosis and this has been my prayer for 10 years. I feel ya pops. Hugs to you.
I'm pretty sure at the end of the video she's bringing them food as they're fishing 😁
In heaven
Yes, the end of the video shows she lived.
Sadly, its a story that never ends,
Johnny and the girl are Tim's parents
Correct
This song perfectly depicts how perceptions often change over time. The line "don't take the girl" doesn't change, but its' meaning and the motivation behind it does. Keep rockin' and stay heavy! Wishing everyone peace, love, and good happiness stuff from the mountains of northeastern Alabama 🤘

Don’t be lying to me now. 😅
@@SHARPO17I am Not 100% sure but I think Tim McGraw said that she actually does live.
i read someone else say the song is based on a true story
Looked to young to be a mother of an 8 year old (if i understand your comment).
The way Tim McGraws voice quivers a little when he sings “god please don’t take the girl” hits me every time
She DOES NOT die!! 😄 All is well! At the end, they're having a picnic!
Yup that's her running up at the end 😊
TNT coming in hot as always. This is one of Tim’s top 3 hits all time. I can’t mess with it too much because I don’t need to be seen with that ugly cry in my life, but this song was always a great depiction of how life is beautiful yet fragile and how quickly it can change.

That one takes your heart out and stomps on it. LOVE that song
@@shelleytorok1406 I agree. Out of all those kind of songs this is #1 (for me, anyway). Always makes me get something in my eye. Definitely one for a "reaction video".
Talk about tearing a listener up. One of the best songs ever written.
Exactly the kind of song that makes reaction videos great. You can only hear this song for the first time once. But seeing someone else go through the experience brings us back to the first time we heard it. Great reaction as usual, guys.
I’ve seen Tim in Concert and this is the last song and everyone starts singing his reaction is awesome
This is the only song that’s ever made me cry 😂😂 it’s made me cry since the 90s, and still makes me
I'm not gonna lie, you could see that he would do the same thing for you girl. It was a all over his face. That's what we all strive for!!! That was amazing!!!!
Great reactions. Love the thoughts and keep up the great reactions. I believe the lady running to them at the end of the video is the mom...she was spared:)
Thanks for your constant love towards my music career... How are you doing?
Thank you for your emotional reaction and for understanding why many of us want country to remain relatable!
I was in the 6th or 7th grade when this song came out. It still brings tears to my eyes.😢
That was the mom running at the end. I take this video as she lived and they were all three out fishing.
Im a 57 year old factory worker and It still makes me cry every time
Yeah, i felt like crying when i worked in a factory too. :(
@@colinglen4505 lol thats why people drink ..lol
She didn't die, that was her at the end of the video. Happy dance!!
This one always makes me cry, even though you see them all at the end.
I loved Tasha's comments about the music. Thank you for sharing.
I just found you guys and I love this song! BTW, she doesn't die. If you watch the end of the video, Johnny is taking "little Johnny" fishing and she comes running down with a picnic basket.

It was Don't take the girl but then he made humble and kind has to be my favorite! Of course his duets with wife Faith Hill are amazing too
This song will definitely make you snot bubble cry gets me every time.
It shows you at the end her going fishing in the blue flannel shirt, she didn’t die!
She lived. No worries. The video shows her at the end running to catch up with them.
That's unconditional love...the end! 💘
Excellent, insightful comments from you both. True, the ending is ambiguous - but I like imagining his prayer is answered.
Don't fear. My first son was an emergency c-section, 2nd son was scheduled. My mother with my younger sister was on her death bed after c-section. Hemorrhaging softball size blood clots. I learned from these two people that you can actually stop your eyes from crying by looking up and to the right.
Beautiful song! Thanks y'all...
Can't be around as often as I'd like so watching an oldie but goodie. Love and miss yall and the fam. Ain't gone just... life.
She was spitting straight fire from soul. I was crying like a baby during this song
I cry over this song too
“Humble and kind” is a great one

Such an underrated song. Love it!
1 of favorites, Live Like You Were Dying. ❤
As always thank you for this beautiful song. You guys are great
This song always makes me cry
Something almost everyone misses is that a woman runs in with a basket at the very end of the video implying that she survived.
You should take a listen to "What A Fool Believes" by Doobie Brothers and Michael MacDonald
You laughing at the beginning, I'm over here like, "oh just you wait". 🤣
Keeping love and humanity alive❤️

I grew up on classic country, then kind of got more in to late 70s and 80's. But this song brought me back.

A little research says that she survived and that was her running to meet him and their kid at the end of the video.
I cry every time I hear this song.....
I have known the words to this song since I was a young teenager. Now in my early 40's. I still cry every time I hear it.
Another great storytelling song that's often overlooked is Wade Hayes' "The Day That She Left Tulsa". The fiddle is the best part for me!
Beautiful review. Thank you for sharing.
I'm 40 years old been listening to this song since I was a kid and can't get past "some day you'll change your mind"😭
This song goes through some incredible moments in a young man's life. Also that final verse...if it dont hit you i doubt your posession of a soul

One thing a lot of people miss in the video at the very end is the mom running to the dad and son as they’re fishing. She lived!
Honestly I wouldve liked it better if they hadn't shown that cause the impact means so much more
how is it more impactful for her to die than God having heard & answered his prayer?!?!?
Oh goodness, wasn't expecting that. wow
