    Welcome home both.
    We have had 3 hives swarming this year already. We purchased new queens to replace the ones that wanted to move home. Actually our friend who lives up the street and also keeps bees had them swarm to his garden. He gathered them up and brought them back 😂 so far they have stayed and the hive is looking healthy and industrious.
    We have an abundance of wildflowers and blossoms in our area so the bees don’t need to stray to far from home. What a beautiful blue on those eggs. I am so looking forward to the raspberries coming- I love them. We had cropped lots of strawberries already and the were sunshine warm and sweet and juicy what else could you ever want- maybe some Cornish clotted cream 😋. Have a good day

    Hi Guys, a friendly cooking tip. whenever I have fresh citrus I always grate the rind (only the outermost part none of the pith) and combine it with an equal amount of sugar and then off to the freezer. this will last indefinately. I do this will ALL citrus Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Mandarin, Tangerine, etc. I'm well trained to zest my citrus before my ravenous nephews come to visit Love the show All the Best Jim Oaxaca Mexico

    Good Afternoon Hamm Family ❤️
    It's a lazy summer day here. Periods of sun through the cloudy haze. Rain is headed our way... again. 86°F... though the humidity isn't too bad. I miss cooler temps. I was not made for hot summer days 🥵
    I'm going to try to catch up on a few of your videos now that a lazy day has made it's way onto my "to do" list... here we go:
    Yummy fudge. When we travel we always look for local sweet shops for fudge, taffy, cookies, chocolates and other goodies and confections 🍫
    It's bittersweet when winter gives way to spring and summer. Everything is greener and blooming, but the snow and cool temps are gone 🥺
    We don't have a Skylight Frame, but we do have a similar one. We love it, especially when Family and Friends are so far away. It's another way to stay in touch. The calendar option sounds interesting 🖼️
    I cherish the notes and drawings Bry did for me when he was little. I have many of them tucked away in a keepsake tote 🥰
    Looking good in your bee suits. It's so interesting to watch and listen to you and Mark talking about the bees and the work involved in caring for them. Thank you for explaining how to identify the queen... I was wondering. The bees here are busy collecting pollen and nectar from all the blooms in the neighborhood. So far, Maggie hasn't eaten one 🐝
    What a beautiful nest of blue Robin's eggs. We have all sorts of birds nesting, feeding and singing all around us: Robins, Cardinals, Wrens, Bluejays, Finch, Swallows, Sparrows, etc. We have a Swallow mom that loves to make her nest atop our propane tank. It's in the shade and has a sunken top that hides it away. We have lots of birds of prey and scavengers too: Eagles, Hawks, Owls and Herons; not to mention the flock of Blackbirds and Turkey Vultures. When the Blackbirds land in our yard to feed or rest, it looks like a trailer for Hitchcock's movie "The Birds" 🐦‍⬛
    I didn't realize the work involved in growing and tending to raspberries. Remove the old to make room for the new. Nice job 👩🏼‍🌾
    Love seeing the boys outside helping out with funtime breaks in-between 🚴🏻
    Everett is so cute helping out in the kitchen. I admire his "one for you, two for me" attitude. At least he's eating his veggies 🥦
    Mark in the kitchen is also a nice sight. Halibut yum. Marinated in pickle juice... hmmm 🤔
    I love how Mark was explaining how to bread the halibut and Weston is like, "I got it Dad". Too funny 😂
    We love the Chick-fil-A Original and Polynesian Sauces. Always have a stash. I'll have to try making it. I'll also have to check the "Spero" (?) cookbook out. Hopefully, they have a lot of Kosher fish recipes - fins and scales 🐟
    That True Lemon, and the Lime, are yummy. I use both in cooking/baking or to make lemon water or ade 🍋
    So heartwarming to see everyone sitting down for a Family dinner, especially when Grandma and Grandpa are there too ❤️
    Hi Miss Luna. I've missed seeing your beautiful face. Give her some head scratches for me 😺
    Bry, my son, loves your Banana Bread/Cake recipe. It was definitely a hit 🍌
    Not sure how I feel about the whole Midnight Sun fiasco. I love nighttime, the moon, the stars. My internal clock would go into crisis-mode. Made me think about when I was growing up and the curfew was when the street or porch lights came on: "Bye Mom and Dad. I'll see you at midnight... maybe" 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Hi Grandpa and Miss Luna 🤗
    I love Bachan's Original Japanese BBQ Sauce. Made some killer Chicken, Veggie and Kimchi Fried Rice the other night using it. Delicious. Have you tried the other flavors? I'll have to try the Salmon Bowls. Looks yummy. The seaweed rice topper is called Furikake. If you want a good drizzle of Kewpie mayo: remove lid, punch three holes into the plastic safety cover, then drizzle over food. They also make condiment bottle with the tri-tip. Not necessary, but fun 🍚
    Kids grow up way too fast. Cherish every minute. Hunter is definitely your son. The older he gets, the more I see you in his face: the handsome version of your beauty 😍
    I love rice krispie treats, but finding good kosher marshmallows is hard, so I have to make homemade. Delicious 😋
    There is never enough time to prepare, pack and load up for a trip... the bigger the trip, the less time you seem to have. Definitely make sure Miss Luna is topped off. And, getting off late is better than not going at all. Can't wait to see the cabin video 🏕️
    Have a great weekend. Yah's Blessings ❤️

    Question about the bees. For several years we’ve been told that the bee population has declined quite a bit. Why are bee’s allowed to even be shipped to Alaska where they most likely won’t survive the winter? It’s not like honey can’t be shipped to Alaska. Thanks for helping me understand

    • @ThisAlaskaLife

      I don’t have an answer for you. That is not my area of expertise.

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  Год назад +5

      I asked Mark your question and he enlightened me. These bees are part of a business of cultivating and selling bees. If there weren’t people like us buying them, they wouldn’t exist at all. We are not taking bees out of the wild and killing them off. Hope that makes sense. Beehives all over the world die out, that is not exclusive to Alaska and many people are figuring out how to successfully winter them over and sharing all their insights.

    • @wendyb171
      @wendyb171 Год назад +3

      @@ThisAlaskaLife thank you so much for taking the time to consult Mark. I never thought about someone breeding bees as a business. My dad had a hive when I was little so I grew up learning and interacting with them. I only remember my dad wearing the headgear but other than that we didn’t have any other protection. Surprisingly I never was stung and I use to hold them.
