I've made a huge mistake.
From what I've seen a lot of adult collectors are married.

I was a kid when the Prequels came out, I went to Walmart with my mom to get a new Star Wars action figure. There was some dudes looking at them and talking and my mom goes "oh are buying them for your kids too"

@Marauder: not really. The expensive in box toys are the rares ones, the limited editions. The original G1 Transformers in box are expensive like $300 and up. All of the rest are a lot cheaper. Nowadays SW is making special limited editions toys that are more expensive but the quality is also a lot better. They might be worth more in the future. But only if Disney can get SW back on track. The new SW toys aren't selling at all. When Ep 8 came out, the shelves were still full of ep 7 toys. Children nowadays are buying Marvel toys.

I had Boba Fett and the Darth Vader TIE Fighter with his action figure you could put into the cockpit back in the mid-80s. Both are long gone. I wonder how much they'd be worth still in the box.

My husband and I are like this. We joke if we ever had kids they would be very confused about the toy situation in the house. Whenever my adult friends come over they always comment on my collection and talk about how their kids would love it. All I can think is "don't bring your kids over to my house." My collection is worth probably 4-5 thousand dollars.

My older brother is a geek (and Star Wars fan), and his wife does like toys too. She collects Lego Fairies, Firefly figurines, and more. Their wedding vows were filled with pop-culture references, including "this is the way" from The Mandalorian.

TFA merchandise did alright. TLJ did poorly (allegedly). Think it really hurt Toys 'r Us that Star Wars just died for them.
Yeah. SW toys have been doing terrible sales since 2017.
2015 had the second highest toy sales for the franchise between 2004-2019.
2005 was the year with the most selling SW toys between those years.

+Glitter Geek I have a bit of both. My son has a huge play collection, whilst I have a small case of figures in my office. I try to read the market (look on collector's forums etc... to see what people are asking for the most.) before buying one to store.
Probably not going to be worth much at all. The fun is in the hunt lolol
+Glitter Geek The reason unopened toys are valuable is 1) because there's a demand for them and 2) finding unopened ones are rare. Like the comic market 20 years ago, if everyone decides to put away unread comics in mylar, then you've got a LOT of unread comics in mylar and the value collapses. The same thing happened with Episode 1 toys but nobody remembers that.

This reminds me of when I was young (under 10) and my mom took me to her friends house for a couple hours. Naturally, I was bored and had nothing to do while they were hanging out.
I noticed that my moms friend had some barbies still in their packaging on a shelf, and I asked her if I could play with one... she laughed at me and said something that made me feel stupid for asking. I remember thinking to myself; "you're the one who's 30+ years old collecting children's toys..."
It's easy (and safe) to make fun of silly stuff guys do, but women are just as guilty for collecting questionable stuff and "decor".
