I will agree with this much: To speak of Maynard brings back some very happy times. I saw him recently on the Music Choice channel. It was like some beautiful vestige from 1970's Thames television, he was wearing a solid gold digital watch, the kind with an LED display, with his signature shades and a curly perm. The guys sound is decadent, bright to the point of garish, and extravagant. But when paired with the right tune (and this is it) it's like listening to the pageantry of Louis XIV. Brava.
This was record with an English Orchestra when Maynard in the late 60es lived in London fora period. Sound quality / Recording is atonish thinking about this eras equipment

He plays the tar out of this and everything else on the album. The only thing I'd say about this chart, is the final dominant-tonic rip is kind of a weak ending musically IMHO.
Anyone wanting to understand what Maynard could really do is advised to pump this album through the headphones.
The guy plays with so much FEELING and SOUL and INTENSITY! To me, he's the greatest jazz trumpeter ever!
