It is a cult and uses fear and manipulation to control its members. I was third gen born in and left after their blood rules killed my dad when I was 23. He was only 48. I’ll never go back. They told him bone marrow was a conscience matter but if you stumble one of your brothers then you could be held blood guilty before Jehovah. Then they made sure to make it clear that he still couldn’t accept the platelets no matter what that he desperately needed at that point because it was still against the rules. I could not justify that or make it make logical since so I left the religion after his funeral.

“I can’t wait to be in paradise so I can study all the butterflies” Sophia, you don’t have to DIE to study butterflies, you can become an entomologist and specialize in lepidopterans while you’re *alive*. Also, there are some really cool, *true* explanations for why butterflies have such pretty wings: aposematic coloration to warn predators that they’re poison, Bayesian mimicry of other actually poisonous butterflies to keep predators away, large wings help them look bigger as a whole and so are potentially less likely to get eaten, those large spots that look like eyes on some butterflies can trick a predator into thinking the butterfly is a larger animal’s face and it’s looking at them, etc., and Sophia’s mom totally robs her of the opportunity to learn about those things by just saying “they’re pretty for us!”

I can remember understanding death as long as I can remember (3 years old), sure no deeper understanding but I knew that people die and will never come back (possibly that they go to heaven or something). @lasmirandadennsiewillja9435 11 месяцев назад

@@Manbearpig444 12-13 I find hard to believe. Maybe understand and experience the full emotional impact of death. But death itself as a concept? I doubt that children whose pet or grandparent dies when they're, let's say, 5, are confused for 7-8 years and only then fully grasp they're dead and not coming back.
One of my earliest childhood memories is the death of one of our dogs, when I was two or three. I remember a few fragments from living with the dog but the clearest is when I was told she was very, very old and sick and we had to drive to the vet right now, at night. But a couple of minutes after driving, my father said it was too late.
I understood after an explanation that she was not coming back but I didn't feel a strong emotional impact. I remember watching my parents being very sad and trying but emotionally, I found it at best regretful (disclaimer: and it's not a "just an animal" thing either because as growing older, the death of pets hit me harder than the deaths of many humans around me)
My reasoning: After a while, the concept of a human or animal never coming back and life vs death sinks in even when children are very young. But you cannot feel the emotional impact when you barely have a concept of self, let alone form a deep, conscious relationship with memories and many positive emotions. That's simply because a 2-4-year-old practically does not spend much quality 1-on-1 time with other people than the parents or animals, compared to a 12-year-old who has consciously known grandma or the family dog for about ten years. Ten years at that age means several stages of life and maturing, of course, loss of a constant causes a much bigger emotional response.
But I would not underestimate the understanding of young children just because they haven't lived long enough yet to form multiple emotional bonds in all their complexities.
I can say that when the only grandfather I was lucky to know tragically died when I was 4-5, I did not only understand what it meant for the future, it also hit much much harder emotionally.
I wonder what data that research bases their claims on. Cognitive understanding vs emotional effect? International data? US-centric? How many parents and children did they question and how old were those children the first time they experienced a loss and how did their parents handle the situation?
You could have research confirm that the average child doesn't understand the concept of Santa not existing if you ask the right question to the right group of children (meaning: children with parents who tried their hardest to convince their children Santa exists until they were preteens).
Also, if kids didn't fully understand death as a concept, emotionally, and the consequences, there wouldn't be so many young kids who are traumatized by losing a parent at a young age or having trouble adjusting to stepparents because they're not their real mom/dad.

@donquarnstrom2949 no, even young people in their 20's don't fear death. They don't think about it. Maybe JW kids do because it's constantly being pushed on them? Other healthy kids don't think about it until someone dies in the family, and even then, after a while, stop thinking about it.

I am an adult who was born into the JW's (aka The Borg) in 1975. That year, my father was a fairly new witness who had made it to elder status in a couple of years. My mom was also fairly new, and was divorced and had a daughter by her first (non JW) husband.
They had very heavily pushed that Armageddon was coming in 1975. My father was very passive and accepted that it was only delayed a little while.
Every year, he hammered into me that REALITY was temporary and the "new system" would be here any second. "Well, you'll never go to school because Armageddon will be here before then! Or, "you'll never drive in this old system!" Or the classic, "welp, that will probably be the last district convention we attend in this old system!"
Do you know what that does to a child's brain??? Practically guarantees that they will grow up with mental health issues! Just because my parents converted, doesn't mean they understood the ramifications of doing this. They knew life before, we don't.
This is sickening. You can't keep your child away from the world. Even the Amish allow their young to see the outside world. All they are doing is creating kids that are anxious and unsure with a false sense of intelligence from being fed a constant stream of propaganda.
This is a stupid, made up religion. It's a printing company that thrives by holding its members down. It's not a religion, it's a full life commitment where people turn their backs on their families in favor of a group of strangers.

The entire evangelical community has been claiming armageddon is coming specifically since the 70s'. All the while professing ( without coincidence ) that the climate can only be controlled by god.
Tr*mps first choice of energy sec was Rex Tillerson ( Exxon CEO during the 80s'-an uncovered memo proves they knew the oil industry's business-as-usual model would see a rise in 1.5 degrees Celcius above pre-industrial by 2150 but then they covered up the findings) and Betsy Davoss was the clowns first choice for education secretary. 🤔
It's just been one massive scam by corporate USA to enrich the few with the expectation of catastrophe. But to protect themselves from possible retribution, a public mob, they decide a system of control would be needed. And what better way to control people than with a zealous theocracy? Groom the next generation so that no one had the impetus to reveal the real instigators of calamity.
I know all this for a fact. Not only was I gaslit throughout the majority of my life bc at the age of six I claimed god did not control the weather; but bc a year later I overheard my evangelical father discussing this very issue with people who were invested purely in America's future. It is a conspiracy against life itself by people who claim to be holier than thou. It's nothing short of evil.

My grandfather, a JW, told me about the 1975 prediction and thought it a bit "baby blue" meaning naive. Mostly it was JW's going around rich people's homes claiming they'd live in those houses after Armageddon and not for him to buy a new car (he did anyway) and renew theirs and his news paper subs.
While still a JW till the end of his life, I did get the impression he'd grown a bit distant from the JW religion, but stuck since he joined in his 20's (died in his 80s).
What all this did to me, personally was instil a bit of hope even for the most long, ardent JW's out there, that there is a limit to their tolerance of BS, even though the JW are masters are sucking you in, soul and all.

Their views on death is exactly why my Uncle didnt give two shits about my Nanas death and the grief he put us through. He is a JW elder and was in charge of my Nanas will. He had her torn from her home and thrown into a facilty while he helped himself to everything she owned and sold her house on her. She was dead a week into being at the home because she fell and no one took her across the street to the hospital. Instead they stuck her in a chair with a book to make it look like she died peacefully. The giant hematoma covering half her head said otherwise. My uncle refused any kind of investigation and when we tried to go ahead with one he was able to have it shut down. All because Nana was apparently sleeping peacefully now and will wake up in Paradise. It was supposed to be a good thing. All I know is that I cry every day for my Nana Banana and the hell she went through at the end and the feeling of being completely powerless to help her.

I remember going to visit her and seeing her in a wheelchair sitting right outside her room. She would always tell us they were mistreating her and she wanted out. My mom finally got her switched to a different facility where her sister would later join her and they would be roommates. Long story short, my uncle took her whole antique bedroom set while she was in that place. Raiding her house (for anything of value he could find) before the bank eventually took it. So, I'm an animator (or have graduated from school for animation), and I believe around 2019, someone from JW came up to my mom to talk. She told the lady that I was an animator, and she was happy about it (that light smile kind of happy). She said, and I quote, "you could work for our animation department for 'el esclavo fiel y discreto' (Sorry if I don't have the direct translation. I was raised under them in Spanish, so I have no idea or intention on translating it. I just wanna hear Owen's opinion)."
So, I thought, "But they won't pay me. It'll be freelance work for nothing, and I'll be back to where I started in the religion that just abused me." I half-heartedly laughed and said "alright" and left. I never saw that woman again, and I'm glad JW has forgotten about me.

If they never knew anyone who died before they were 9, sure they might still have trouble grasping it. But if, say their dog died when they were 4 and their parents were honest with them about what happened, then I think it's quite likely that by the time someone else dies when their 6 (or whatever), they will understand what's happening by then.

The story is the Lazarus story. As soon as I saw the bandaging, I knew. This is mostly because I have a character with the name Lazarus in one of my fantasy novels - not much relation, just liked the name. My character isn't even human, but it's one of those stories I remember because of my name-borrowing and symbolism in fiction habit.
One thing I am wondering is "How much has changed with the Witnesses between now and in the past?" Particularly, the 1980s. My father was raised JW. He pretty much emancipated himself and always cited when I was growing up that his break with the religion came from their medical practices. He thought the no blood transfusions thing was ridiculous because "God would want us to save lives." And yet, I knew my grandparents (briefly, they died when I was 4-5) and I don't think they ever broke from JW. Is the "disfellowshipped completely for any and every little thing" something relatively recent? Or maybe I need to delve into my family history more, talk to my dad more often though he's going freakin' deaf.
Ha, your reaction (Owen) to butterflies reminds me of a Spongebob Squarepants episode. Spongebob and Patrick babysit Sandy Squirrel's pet butterfly in a jar, they awe over it at first until they see a close-up of it's little horrifying buggy face and then they think it's a horrible monster. It escapes into the city floating in a bubble and they go forth to stop the "monster" from eating everyone. I like butterflies, but think it is a perfectly valid reaction to their very freaky buggy faces.

It may be a cultural thing (cats have been proven to behave differently depending on the culture where they are from). But I've seen way too many cats get all friendly with a human until they give birth, they then give birth at your backyard/garage/house or similar, they may stick around to care for the kittens for a while or they may bolt immediately after but in most cases you don't see that same cat again until she is pregnant again. The wrappings basically were few, almost none, and were there to bind the limbs to the body, keep the jaw shut, and the eys in the skull. Then, a shroud was placed over the body. This way the body could still be wa shed with perfumed without constantly unwrapping it. Then when it had fully decomposed... the bones would be put in an osuary and placed in a different alcove in the tomb.
And Roman's never let crucified people down off the cross to be buried, entombed, etc. They were left to rot as humiliation and guarded.

Its amazing how religious people are so self centered to be like "oh yeah the all mighty creator of all things, made things pretty so we would enjoy looking at them and thats the only reason! He did everything for us, the universe exists explicitly for our enjoyment!"
Like damn man no wonder why devout relgious belief is a common trait of narcissists.
