But if it's intention was to "bring cultures together and prevent bigotry/racism.", one would have thought that our dear friend Carlos would hold back his blatant disdain for Dominicans and Argentinians, when he kept emphasizing he didn't want any association with these cultures/nationalities in his results, and kept promoting his "Cuban-ness" SMH. I think you are not living in this world, you should see how the islam countries do with non-muslins. LemonDrop they did not kill all of them. If that were true then how would people have indigenous ancestry. They were forced into assimilation and ended up interbreeding with Europeans and Africans, to create the modern mixed Latino that we all know today
LemonDrop there is a modern Hispanic. *Some (many) were killed. Once again, if the all of them were killed, we wouldn’t have any Latinos with Native ancestry in the Caribe or throughout Latin America. Therefore many of them interbred due to forced assimilation. Though we come in all colors, the majority of our DNA (and the entirety of our cultures) come from the “3 raíces”. Most of us are hybrids of Indigenous, West/north African, European. That is the modern Hispanic. I’m saying this... as a Cuban of those 3 roots.
LemonDrop you are an exception. When you are dealing with numbers... most of Latin america is mestizo. Therefore they’re the “modern Latino” which everyone knows and associates with the region. That’s not to say that other ppl can’t be Hispanic/Latino, but they’re minorities and exceptions, like with many Miami Cubans (though some are mestizo)

I just got here but as a Dominican I can honestly say I have never ever thought I wouldn't like to be related to Cubans, nor have I ever heard another Dominican say such thing. Actually most of us think really great things of Cubans, they're greatly educated people, joyful and great dancers. I guess the hatred is just one sided. So I feel a little sad he has such strong negative feelings towards us.

I’m half Trini and I know at one point Trinidad had Spanish history but I didn’t think people from non-Hispanic islands would have (in particular) spanish blood/ancestry like the original comment suggested. There are plenty of cases in all the world that show most MEN WERE NEVER PREJUDICED, they would have sex with any woman, regardless of color or status. Men in power, for example: Many slave overseers, or some in “management” of a farm or plantation would have sex with slave women. Most of them treated them as slaves in the day & as sex workers at night, or whenever they wanted.
Very Famous Case: Thomas Jefferson & Sally Hemings. There is info online you can read. There have been cases of this in every part of the earth.
This has been so prevalent through history that it is now widely recognized. Also, nearly all people of color in US find a percentage of European ancestry when they examine their DNA, some a quite high percentage. Although many have considered themselves Black, now that DNA testing is available, they now know they are a higher percentage of White / Caucasian than Black.
Considering what took place throughout history, it is actually no surprise at all!

Reminds me of when I was setting up an Intercultural Day for my class. I was going to put up flags for all the kids' ancestral nationalities, so I asked the parents about their cultural backgrounds. About two or three parents simply said "American." And I'm like, "Okay, but what else?" "Just American."
Look, I'm white, and I know I'm not 100% American and that my ancestors come from all over, mostly Europe, who eventually came to America seeking new opportunities, which makes me proud. So I find it sad how people lose touch of their cultural backgrounds, not knowing their family history or where they came from. True, our DNA doesn't define us, but it's still interesting to know where you came from.

I wonder why they call it bantu , its not a country its a group of like speaking tribes, in african the groups are Bantu, nilotics,semi nilotics and cushities. so the bantu group is from central East african not including Ethiopia and Somalia all the way to the south cape. My mom is African and my dad English, but STILL. They are 100% African! There are some that look mixed but that was ONLY because of the colonization by Britain in the past. But mixed people were far and few between. Heck I stood out as being mixed lol And I'm black American.

Never heard of any such rivalry. However, there is a certain animosity between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans and Dominicans and Puerto Ricans that I did detect when living among both groups. There is also animosity between Argentinians and Chileans based on border issues. Cubans and Puerto Ricans are like brother nations and get along just fine. Then there was a time when Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay attacked Paraguay and almost wiped out the entire male population. I'm sure resentment
ran high for decades after that.

Me and my mom did an ethnicity dna test. My mom has 55% Scandinavian. That was a shock! She is born in world war 2 as a biracial child. Her father is black from South America. The African ethnicities are Nigerian, Sierra Leone, Kenyan, Massai and North Africa. She had also percentages from the Middle East. North Western Europe and Spain and Italy. I am 38% nigerian, 11% Sierra Leone, Kenyan, Massai, northwest Europe, Scandinavian was high too in procentages. She shocking part was for me Papua New GuiNea. Askhenazi jewish too.
