In the United States, there are "Honor Flights," in which an airliner is chartered to fly veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington D.C. to see their respective war memorials. These flights often receive a water salute when flying into Dulles and Reagan, and occasionally when they return home as well.
Being on a flight when a fallen soldier was being returned to his family was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. Once we were under Water Salute the Captain asked us to remain seated until the military officer onboard our flight left the cabin because he was accompanying a fallen soldier home. Sitting on the side of the plane where they brought the casket out I started crying because of how emotional the service was. I was not the only passenger crying because in the quiet of the cabin you could hear others having the same reaction. This will always move me and is a lifetime memory.

my friend was captain for over 30 years, and he just retired recently, he sent me a video with a police escort to the gate. at the end it was emotional.
In 2007, I was on a flight where the pilot was "retiring" (age-forced retirement). I had a window seat and the flight attendants wanted me to change seats so they could look out for the shower. I told them no, that since I'm a photographer I'll shoot it and give a set to the captain and send a link so that they can see it on line. I also scooched back to let them look out as I just put the camera up to the window and just fired away. It was like going through a car wash only no soap.
I only half to turn my head 90° to see a Concorde right now (im at a hotel and out side my window is the run way and on the side of the airport i can see it)
Yes.. Captain Joe. I have seen one of this water salute ceremony when I was about to board a plane from New delhi India to Shanghai China in 2017 Nov. I saw plane was taxiing next to our aircraft the same from air India. . Then our pilot told us that captain of that plane which just landed from London Heathrow. .. is retiring from air india now so as traditional ceremony water salute is going on & the aircraft was Boeing 777-300. That was awesome moment for me to see for this live event for the very 1st time.
We just got a water salute taxiing into Ketchikan, Alaska to congratulate the high school wrestler on board that had just won the state championship. There were actually 2 champs on board, one from Ketchikan and another from Craig. And the captain did announce the salute and congratulated the wrestlers.

In the U.S., when we are transporting fallen soldiers; we also give a water salute to them as it is such an an honor to be able to bring them back home to their family & thanking them for their services to their home country. I live in Illinois and, after snow storms when the weather gets better, I give my car its random showers of affection via my local carwash.
4:12 "I've been there and I've don't that and I do not need to see it again" 😂😂
It would be phenomenal, if you manage to get an interview with Kennedy Steve (or Boston John)! :D
That would be a dream come true! hope this video reaches him :)
Or Pearson Dave from Toronto… even his voice has a very similar tone like Kennedy Steve (but he less frequently educate the tugs and I never heard him say "Spendid!")
I believe that Kennedy Steve has retired and Boston John went to San Juan, PR a while back as a manager w/ATC. Miss them both. All the best Joe.
1:00 us navy also does this for a ship returning form a deployment, celebrating their safe return
While i was in the Navy we made 2 deployments and never got a water salute when we came home. All i got was spit in my face by strangers.
@@jameshazlett2546 when was this?
@@mrexists5400 sir, it was in 1970 and 1972
*Sees Captain Joe new video notifications *
Me: *happy* :D
Same
Generalofkills Genofkills me too
Joe,
I was sitting in the KLM flight in this video
In Iran, when someone is going on a trip, they pour water on the vehicle they’re leaving with (that’d be a taxi or personal car taking them to the airport or going to the destination itself). It’s said to signify safety and good luck
Can you make videos about Boeing 747 which YOU are piloting ?
Plzzz Joe plzzz.
Being reviewed at the moment :)
Captain Joe That plane looks like fish ? No Thanks Joe
I want to see the cockpit of 747 too!! Boeing 747 is my favorite plane
That moment when you hear Joe mention your very own airport: SALT LAKE CITY!!
But we all know JFK better lol
isnt salt lake city in the state where all the mormons and guys with like 6 wifes are at
@@KaidenAT Regrettably... yes.
I experienced a water salute for my dad (fallen service member) when he was brought home to be layed to rest.
We salute his courage and his sacrifice. May he rest in Valhalla
I will be using this when my girlfriend come home from a trip....but more of a adult style twist to it 😈
And i will be the second fire 🔥 truck😈
@@ManthanPandYEAH :D
Wow!! Are you a firefighter at the airport or what that they would allow you to pull off such a stunt?
Manthan Pandya ew
Do a video with Sam Chui. I am sure you two will think something interesting to make.
I´d love to, he seems such a cool guy with his travel vlogs!
my friend was captain for over 30 years, and he just retired recently, he sent me a video with a police escort to the gate. at the end it was emotional.
Seeing fire trucks with their lights on all lining up spraying water on the plane could start a panic among the passengers! Hahahaha
Who's disliking this video.. like what exactly could have possibly offended you from this video?
Maybe they're drunk. Mistakenly disliked the video. Lol
It was like going through a car wash only no soap.
captain Joe i have actually seen a water salute on a domestic flight here in Kenya (Jambo Jet)
Oh, really. Awesome
I only half to turn my head 90° to see a Concorde right now (im at a hotel and out side my window is the run way and on the side of the airport i can see it)
Nicky h225 The fake model?
I typed to RUclips search "Captain Joe" and the third video in the row was "Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe (OFFICIAL VIDEO)".
It's the 8th video now.
@@captainrobots1 i think it depends on what you watch. I got differenet results for the same phares on differenet accounts
Four pilots and 15 cabin crew work during the flight
We just got a water salute taxiing into Ketchikan, Alaska to congratulate the high school wrestler on board that had just won the state championship. There were actually 2 champs on board, one from Ketchikan and another from Craig.
And the captain did announce the salute and congratulated the wrestlers.
3:05 :O I was on that flight! From Amsterdam
Got4MinutesRB How do you know that was your flight?
I lived in Edmonton
*Me when I saw water salute*
Me: Is the plane burning?😱😱
I'm sure I was on the last flight of the pilot of Swiss in the video that you show (4:39) .Pretty good video btw as usually
My guess is that the 777 flying from Doha to Auckland had 81,000 pounds of fuel and 355 passengers on board.
How many hours?
I thought they were cooling down the plane... Haha I can't stop laughing at myself for thinking that..
See with me I have never travel on a plane before.
16000 thousands hours of flying and yet i learned something today ! Thats the reason one I love my job so much! Thank you and Good luck in your career Capt Joe!
Hello joe .... Can u plzz tell me why do planes fly so high . ...... While small planes fly at low altitude .... Private jets included 🤔🤔
ᔕᗩᑎᗪᕼᑌ ᔕᗩᗩᗷ fuel efficiency
Because the higher an Aircraft is flying the more efficient the Engines are.
That’s actually probably does deserve a video while the answers are simple there are many different reasons why they do that.
Terry Dolan...... yes there r lot of small thing need to be cover in video .......... Hope CAPTAIN JOE SEE THIS QUESTION ‼️‼️‼️
Not all GA Aircraft have pressurized cabins, so they tend to fly below altitudes where pressurization would be needed.
Have you ever made an emergency landing
In the U.S., when we are transporting fallen soldiers; we also give a water salute to them as it is such an an honor to be able to bring them back home to their family & thanking them for their services to their home country. Recently, I had transported a fallen soldier in which was finally found & identified from the Korean war. Once we landed, the flight was met with fire trucks, police suvs & military services men who would be transporting the body to their family.
Weil die Piloten in den Ruhestand gehen 😊 Grüße gehen raus an alle✈️
