Dear friends and followers welcome back to my channel!
Have you ever wondered why some airplanes get a water salute? I must admit it´s a rare occasion but the tradition is spread out throughout the world, but it´s not the airline industry who started with this salute. It goes way back when ocean liners were setting off on their maiden voyage overseas. Firefighting boats would line up next to the brand new ship and spray water fountains next to it whilst leaving the harbour.
So in the 1990´s, Salt Lake City Airport would start spraying water arches over retiring Delta airline captains after their last landing. And that´s how it all started. But see more in the video!
Thanks for watching, all the best your "Captain" Joe

Our family received a water cannon salute while we escorted our 20 year old son home for the last time, He was a United States Marine. We lost him in 2017. We didn't know they were going to do it, but the Captain ordered it for us. Very emotional moment, very beautiful, thank you sir.

In the United States, there are "Honor Flights," in which an airliner is chartered to fly veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington D.C. to see their respective war memorials. These flights often receive a water salute when flying into Dulles and Reagan, and occasionally when they return home as well.
Being on a flight when a fallen soldier was being returned to his family was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. Once we were under Water Salute the Captain asked us to remain seated until the military officer onboard our flight left the cabin because he was accompanying a fallen soldier home. Sitting on the side of the plane where they brought the casket out I started crying because of how emotional the service was. I was not the only passenger crying because in the quiet of the cabin you could hear others having the same reaction. This will always move me and is a lifetime memory.
I didn't see any ads... That's refreshingly odd.
My wife loves to be greeted by a shower of affection from me.

I was honoured to be part during the inaugural flight to my home airport. I was invited to be the photographer at the scene and got to take really beautiful pictures of the water cannon salute. Seeing it was majestic and also a reminder that my home airport is slowly becoming more and more international.
Aqim Julayhi Which is your home airport?
Yes , which ?
KLIA :D
zachy FTW Nah, my friend. It's Miri airport. MYY/WBGR
Got to experience it again today. Still majestic as always.
I remember when Delta retired the last L1011. It got a water salute before taking off. Very emotional as the L1011s were used a lot ATL to FLL. Back in the day, I was weekly passenger, and it was such a pleasure. My favorite plane ever. The water salute seemed so perfect.
If there's a newly built airport, does this mean water salute will be done to all arriving and or departing aircraft?
Likely not.
I'd like to think so. I can picture having fire hydrants running for like a week straight.
No they will spray the entire airport with water so expect a slippery floor when entering aircraft it may cause you to fall on the *TARMAC* but thats okay the ground control will come and help you board
I think the do the first one to arrive
@Airbus A340-600 i made it bigger just for you

Watching this video gave me goosebumps; thinking of retiring captains, military personnel who’ve died in service, new planes, old planes, and new airlines all being honoured by an airport’s employees in this way, like a great big ‘thank you’, just made me feel good. Humanity is great sometimes 😊
I was on a plane once that had the honorof escorting a fallen soldier home from war to be laid to rest. When we landed in his home town, the airport arranged this to happen for the family to witness their gratitude for the sacrifice their soldier had made. It brought me and everyone else on board to tears.
As a member of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting crew in Denver, I had the honorable duty of preforming many water salutes for retiring Captains and inaugural flights. I miss working at the airport and being around airplanes all day.
Iam a firefighter....we have given this salute of affection from our rosenbauer 6x6......its a challenging task to make the water blast meet at a point and holding it there for a while when u have no visual of the other cft and water dripping all over your windshield........well we are made to do the impossible,so salute to all the firefighters out there.... jai hind.
Vishnu Venugopal I’m replying a long time from now, but when you make that arc normally it’s coordinated between the trucks and they both tilt the water cannon say 60 degrees up, and if it’s a cobra you should be able to do that perfectly via the touchscreen
Youre not a fire fighter
My ass 😂
One you forgot is the one with the body of a fallen U.S service member is on board.
This is the coolest of aviation traditions! When I was in the Navy, I was witness to two of them. One on land and one at sea!
Firetrucks: All hail the queen! (sprays water)
B747: Why its quite lovely to be back. Thank you!
I was on a Delta 737 from IAD to SLC which turned out to be the last flight for the retiring captain. Not only was there a water canon salute that we taxied through, there was cake & sparkling cider for everyone at a reception in the gate area. It was a remarkable event for all of us.

My Dad is a retired Delta Captain. My mother, brother and I were onboard his final flight - MD-11 in the mid 90s- where he had a water salute. I was very proud of him. The passengers didn’t seem very interested at the time. The first officer was super cool and made it memorable. It was exciting for me and I was very proud of my Dad . I was on an Honor Flight with my grandfather. We flew with a bunch of war vets. We went from KSYR>KIAD. Got the water salute at arrival at Dulles, and arrival home at Hancock. We apparently caused several delays at KIAD. Everything stopped as people lined up to welcome the vets to DC. Nobody could get through except our group. All sorts of color guards, etc. welcoming us. Hello joe .... Can u plzz tell me why do planes fly so high . ...... While small planes fly at low altitude .... Private jets included 🤔🤔
ᔕᗩᑎᗪᕼᑌ ᔕᗩᗩᗷ fuel efficiency
Because the higher an Aircraft is flying the more efficient the Engines are.
That’s actually probably does deserve a video while the answers are simple there are many different reasons why they do that.
Terry Dolan...... yes there r lot of small thing need to be cover in video .......... Hope CAPTAIN JOE SEE THIS QUESTION ‼️‼️‼️
Not all GA Aircraft have pressurized cabins, so they tend to fly below altitudes where pressurization would be needed.
Four pilots and 15 cabin crew work during the flight
There's another water salute tradition where if a sports team wins a major championship outside the city they represent, they usually do a water salute when they're charter plane arrives back home.
Have you ever made an emergency landing
Weil die Piloten in den Ruhestand gehen 😊 Grüße gehen raus an alle✈️
In 2007, I was on a flight where the pilot was "retiring" (age-forced retirement). I had a window seat and the flight attendants wanted me to change seats so they could look out for the shower. I told them no, that since I'm a photographer I'll shoot it and give a set to the captain and send a link so that they can see it on line. I also scooched back to let them look out as I just put the camera up to the window and just fired away. It was like going through a car wash only no soap.
Why planes get water salute ?
Because it's dangerous to get fire salute
There were 138 tonnes of jet fuel on board at takeoff!!!
Yes.. Captain Joe. I have seen one of this water salute ceremony when I was about to board a plane from New delhi India to Shanghai China in 2017 Nov. I saw plane was taxiing next to our aircraft the same from air India. . Then our pilot told us that captain of that plane which just landed from London Heathrow. .. is retiring from air india now so as traditional ceremony water salute is going on & the aircraft was Boeing 777-300. That was awesome moment for me to see for this live event for the very 1st time.
My guess is that the 777 flying from Doha to Auckland had 81,000 pounds of fuel and 355 passengers on board.
How many hours?
