I agree. It was definitely one of the biggest culture shocks having moved here from Canada. A few years ago (when I still lived in Canada), I was able to get major surgery and walk out the door two days later without paying a dime. I wish things were better

I understand the need for a reliable car. I live in a rural area and the nearest grocery store is 25 minutes away. The need for a car is definite. Great explanations. Thank you for your openess. I was starting to make headway and fell asleep driving and wrecked my car. I just got bruises, but my car was totaled. 18 months earlier I got choked and blacked out and wrecked with high medical bills following to find the problem. Solution was found, but insurance companies wouldn't write me a policy. So i had to go to a special high risk insurance group and no pay 40% off my disability check in car insurance

Hannah! 😮 I never would've guessed, but I'm so happy you're both in a great place that helps you to put towards your debts 💜 Your current plan is actually the recommended way to start your journey.
There's a channel called Lyman Joy and she has a substantial amount of debt, now she follows the Dave Ramsey method but she's altered it to make it work for her. I think at the very least you should check out her "how to start a debt snowball" video for some information and inspiration to help you on your journey. Her other video "Cash stuffing not working, try this" would help you too I feel.
You're doing so well without the help of those videos, so you really don't have to if you're not interested. But I think there's no such thing as wasted information 💜

I'll definitely have to check their channel out! I used to watch a crazy amount of Dave Ramsey. We still somewhat follow his baby steps but changed it up a bit.
Thank you so much for your continued support, Lynn! It means more than you know!

Thank you for sharing Hannah ❤ my father has some big debts too (bought a condo in SoCal for us to live in a few years back 💸)
Its currently only him and my sister with full time jobs, my mom unable to work due to knee injury, and i got a part time to pay for the cats, who have had their own expensive vet bills 💸
We're also working on fixing the condo. It was in shambles when my parents bought it, but considering we were evicted at the start of the pandemic, nothing much we could do but say yes.
From first furnishing the condo, to new kitchen appliances, fixing the pipes, and now getting a new HVAC system in, its been hard but we're trying our best.
I'm very grateful I graduated without any debt, but it is definitely frustrating that the job market is so messed up here. Wish I could work a well paying full time.
Hearing your struggles with debt, but how you fight forward, is very encouraging.
Hace you considered opening a HYSA or even buying a short CD? I started this year and have earned a little bit on my savings :)
I also opened a Roth IRA, but alas! I dont have enough money to put more than 1k jn it this year haha. I feel embarrassed, being 23 but unable to fill it properly. Truly, what we all need is financial security. I wish America could give us that.

Hi! First, I'd like to thank you so much for sharing something so personal. I'm sorry about what happened to you during the pandemic. It was definitely a tough time but I'm glad you pulled through. I can only imagine how stressful (and expensive) it can be having to fix things in your home.
I definitely understand your struggle with post-grad job searching. I was fortunate to land a job a month after college but it only lasted 3 months since it was project-based.
We actually have an HYSA with Ally - though I'm not familiar with short CD. I also would like to open a Roth IRA but as a Canadian who somewhat recently moved to the US, I have no idea where to even begin.
Please don't feel embarrassed. The economic state of the world is so abnormally bad at the moment. Many many people are struggling. It's not your fault that we currently have a tough job market.
Sometimes, at 27, I feel super discouraged, staring at the mountain of debt we have. I actually just purchased Miko's (The Budget Mom on RUclips) book. I take inspiration from her because despite being a single mom to a young child, she managed to pay off all her debt AND buy her 400k home all in CASH. I really want to get to the point where we don't owe anyone anything. We will get there! I believe it!

@@PropBudgets thank you for taking the time to listen to my story and respond Hannah ❤️
I appreciate short Certificates of Deposits because I can store my money securely for a couple months, and most are nice in not needing to put in like 5k+. I wanted a HYSA with BMO Alto but they booted me for "sus activity" (I was confused about their interface and was fumbling around too much 😅).
Thank you for all the reassurance during these trying times. I'll definitely check out Miko, cause clearing up debt AND buying a house almost equal in price to most condos in SoCal? The biggest Ws 👏

No wonder both of you are in debt. I mean look at that wedding ring. Probably costs 10k. Expensive wedding too perhaps.

    • @PropBudgets
      @PropBudgets  День назад +6

We didn't have a fancy wedding. We got married in my in-laws' living room for $75, wearing regular clothes (no wedding dress). My ring isn't a real diamond. I got my set from Modern Gents which sells high quality cubic zirconia rings for a reasonable price. My entire set cost about $150 and one wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Our total wedding cost was less than $300 with both our rings and the state wedding fee all included.
Our debts are purely from student loans, medical debt and a vehicle we needed to be able to function.
Respectfully, I would like to ask you not to judge people without knowing anything about them. Moreover, the purpose of the cash stuffing/budgeting community is not to put blame on past mistakes or decisions that one may consider financially irrational, but to accept that what's done is done and to try our best to move forward and learn from our past. This video was not meant to instigate any negativity and I would appreciate if we just kept it positive on this channel (and every other channel you watch). Have a blessed Sunday🥰
