  • In certain areas (and every now and then) of PortPhillip Bay Melbourne there is an invasion of North Pacific Starfish. These Starfish move through practically devouring everything that cannot move out of the way. U/W footage copyright Pang Quong contact pqaquatic@bigpond.com

    Every minute you're alive you are surrounded by billions of spores and other such hatchlings from molds, bacteria, dust mites, you name it. Underwater, that billion becomes a trillion.

    Did you know that if a Sea-star loses it's leg, it will grow back, but also, the severed leg will turn into a whole new Sea-star?

      I've handled them in a 'touch tank'. Their little feet feel your hand, but thet don't bite or anything.

      Ok this this is what I found...so hopefully roughly what the original comment was ...What an amazing planet we live on! What a variety of life in the seas! Interestingly, the Bible reports that the first living creatures on earth were sea dwellers. It says, "And God said, 'Let the waters swarm with many living souls.'" (Genesis 1:20,21). Surprisingly, starfish can regenerate lost arms, which is useful if a starfish is injured by a predator. It can lose an arm, escape and grow a new arm later.The arms of starfish contain most of the vital organs.
      The stars in the sky and the stars in the sea glorify the one who lovingly created it all: “How numerous are your works, O Jehovah! Your wisdom is visible in everything. The earth is full of your creations” (Psalm 103:24).

    The fact that there is a severed arm still twitching at 0:55 and the other starfish are trying to eat it just proves how weird these creatures are. No worries though since whichever one lost it is gonna have a fresh, new arm in a few months!😂

    • @PangQuong
      @PangQuong  Год назад +1

      They do normally move slowly...but if they sense a source of food you can see them moving surprisingly quickly. When found individually or as as a large group it can at first appears that there not much going on. . Until we use Timelapse
