How an aquarium is made! Today, i give a world exclusive, behind the scenes look at how custom aquariums build their fish tanks. Check them out here: customaquariums.com
Only took 48 hrs of travel. 2 hrs to film. 4 hrs to edit. I used to do these all the time. BUT im in the middle of the largest project of my life. Not exactly a lot of spare time right now. I'll be back to normal soon enough.
Don't mean to brown noes but this channel is hands down the best hobbyist channel. I will be getting back into the hobby. Thanks for giving me the confidence to try again but now armed with an arsenal of your tutorials to fall back on. Still deciding on setup but not too long now hopefully. Have a blessed day dude🖒
My only scale baby right now is my betta Apollo Justice, but he's part of the family. My mother calls herself his grandmother and checks in on him every day, and feeds him sometimes. She helped me get the ten galleon for him too. It's great to see another Canadian fish keeper who really loves their fish. Hello from Alberta!
It's a real shame that there is some sad lonely individuals that take time out of their own time to click on your videos and dislike them. Don't let haters get to you. Your content is amazing.
Hey Joey! I hope you can pass on this message to Custom Aquariums: Being in a service field we hope to be as transparent with our customers as possible. Seeing someone work so transparently and ethically has been a real pleasure! It really helps to bond with the customers on a personal level! Lots of love to you and Custom Aquariums!
Wow, laid back Joey the narrator. lol I loved the video, very educational. I appreciated being brought into the back end of the process. You can really tell the difference in quality to some of the cheap versions found in chain pet stores. Great product.
Wow the aquarium industry has certainly come far, I've got some totally ancient aquariums from the 1950's that are iron framed and putty sealed. My grandfather made them and they are still watertight and serviceable.
Interesting how techniques have changed over the years. Front and rear panels used to sit in front of the base, with side panels sitting on top (hear in the UK anyway!). Great video Joey, thank you.
Its not easy with the cam on you, knowing this many people will see it! Tons of people think they can do what i do but have no clue what kind of pressure is really on you with the camera. I dont mind it now a days, but it used to be hard on me.
Just want to throw support behind a king of DIY patreon account! I'd happily invest money into both these videos and the aquarium gallery, you've helped me SO much with the hobby.
Like I said in your last video, they built a 500 (8'x4'x2') last year for me and unfortunately I sold it before I moved here currently for work. I knew I was going to buy a house here, just closed yesterday, and now reached out to them to start a 900 (12'x4'x2 1/2') for my new home and I'm turning my garage into a room and putting up French doors instead of garage doors. Took a lot from you joey and others as an inspiration to make this room. Thanks
Hi Joey, great tour, so interesting! Do they leave the silicone bumpers in and let the silicone dry around them? Or take them out as they progress? Thx again for the great videos.
wow great video it made me think twice about the company. I think I will buy my next tank from them. loved the quality of the workmanship. plus I like the fact th as they used aluminum instead of plastic snd its removable.
Really impressive. I just got a new hand made aquarium some weeks ago and it is cool to see how those are actually made. Thanks to you and Custom Aquariums!
Wow! I always thought about building an aquarium for myself but never knew that there were so many technicalities involved. Thank you and the aquarium company to impart such knowledge with the world 🌍. You certainly earned my Like and Subscription. My only regret is that RUclips don't allow me more than one likes per video :)
Thanks Joey, it's nuts cause this video contrasts most of the information I received from forums regarding silicone injection in DIY builds. I wonder how this video will change the narrative in the community.
What kind of tool were used to finish the inside seam? I think Joey should make a tutorial video about finishing silicone seams with "seam tool" and with different glass thicknesses. I think seam appearance is a very important matter with overall look of an aquarium.
So do they leave the silicone spacers in while they're injecting the silicone? Are the silicone spacers made of silicone and what size are they or what is the spacing between panes of glass?
The tank in the end was at Adams home. (owner) I think that was a 12 footer. They had some pretty big ones being built there as well. In the warehouse there was one that must have been at least 800 gallons
I'm sure you heard about the huge aquarium that just broke. Any chance you can do a video on large aquariums and the challenges of making them? Any details, like materials strengths, sealant/attaching strengths, temperature changes, etc. would be of great interest. Thanks.
Joey, if you see this, what are your thoughts on the silicone spacers? Are they something you would consider in your own builds or do you think they would add "weak points" to the seams? I know they used them so they could frame the whole tank at once, but I've never seen it before and I recall you (and every other tank building tutorial I've seen) not using such things and just pressing your seams together once you add all the silicone.
They look good joey, can't wait to see them full of water and fish on your gallery. Hopefully those don't have to get helicoptered to your house haha. Keep up the good work and content 👍🏼
Outstanding my friend. Well done and they just gained a fan! Keep up your good work. I know it's a full time job with plenty of overtime! You are gifted and have a creative and unique way with your video productions. I find it very enjoyable. Oh, and Howdy from Central Texas!
Yo, what is it with people disliking his videos? What do people hate about this video? That he didn't show fish? Like literally people will just hate no matter what
That was like a personalized version of "How It's Made" which I was watching when this notification popped up. 😂 Thanks Joey and thanks Custom Aquariums.
Thanks Joey. Love the attention to detail and the whole facility that Custom Aquariums has. One day I would like to get a very large aquarium or two from this company.
Im late to the party again (im in school sorry), Joey will you consider painting the bottom of the 2k tank sand brown? it would look good like substrate but still be easy to clean and keep your rays from piling it all in the center.
You truly are the king of DIY. Thanks for all the insight. Unfortunately, I cannot keep a tank because of my circumstances so I admire other aquarist's tanks and live it through them. Haha. I am trying to mix this hobby with another to create something different that I havent seen out there and your videos are helping a ton. Again, due to my circumstances, this may take a while. Either way, I'm staying tuned. Great channel!!!!
Shhhhhh... sit back and listen to my voice.... you're getting sleepy... very sleeeeeepy. When you awake you will click the like button and subscribe if you are not already... ;)
Damn! That was awesome, thank you for asking, we're all grateful and excited to get a custom tank made by them. Enjoyed the music too, reminded me of Mr. Rodger's when they'd show how things were made haha. Kudos again for the video. I must admit it got me excited for the gallery even more!
thank you for sharing , I have question , please answer me * I wanna make huge aquarium size is ( 160 cm x 85 cm x 85 cm ) with 8mm glass , does this thickness of glass handle the water pressure ?

The king of DIY hi
Thanks Joey looking been particularly forward to watching this one
Joey, this was one of your more concise and informational videos - well done!
Only took 48 hrs of travel. 2 hrs to film. 4 hrs to edit. I used to do these all the time. BUT im in the middle of the largest project of my life. Not exactly a lot of spare time right now. I'll be back to normal soon enough.
The king of DIY joey what is nice and easy to keep and cheap fish
Man these new episodes of How It's Made are a completely different than how they used to do them. :P
Samuel Casey I know I kinda like the Canadian narrator better and

ASTLEYFAM Seb & Kieran likes or dislikes give any video traffic. better if they didnt do anything at all. Lol
interesting and very well narrated 👍
I figured since i knew how to build them, i knew what to film and how to explain it. ;)

I thought the little rubber risers to be most surprising! That is very interesting!
Wow the aquarium industry has certainly come far, I've got some totally ancient aquariums from the 1950's that are iron framed and putty sealed. My grandfather made them and they are still watertight and serviceable.
Beautiful! Just one question though, did they leave the spacers intact or had a special way of removing them?
Interesting how techniques have changed over the years. Front and rear panels used to sit in front of the base, with side panels sitting on top (hear in the UK anyway!).
Great video Joey, thank you.
Nice to know that they offer lifetime warranty on their tanks. Very much impressive and commendable :)
I wished there was such aquarium building company in my country which does such good and CLEAN job when building aquarium
having Joey film you while you build aquariums must be nerve racking but they did such a great job regardless. true professionals!
Its not easy with the cam on you, knowing this many people will see it! Tons of people think they can do what i do but have no clue what kind of pressure is really on you with the camera. I dont mind it now a days, but it used to be hard on me.
it's really cool to see how the aquariums are made can't wait to see the finished 2000 gallon
Watching the silicone application is sooo satisfying.
Glad it's not just me - I was going 'oooooooh' at that in my head :D
I haven't built any aquarium, but this inspired me a lot. I will give it a shot in my next setup.
Just want to throw support behind a king of DIY patreon account! I'd happily invest money into both these videos and the aquarium gallery, you've helped me SO much with the hobby.
REMOVABLE Bracing? BRILLIANT!!! (makes you wonder why more companies don't do that!) Nice tour of the factory! Thanks Joey! :)
Because most are more worried about mass production and bottom line.
I think my next tank will be from Custom Aquariums. I appreciate their willingness to show the process.
When they dropped the glass, made my jump. 😂😂
Same. Cringe level was maxed out hard.
this was so soothing to watch for some reason lol. very unique process they allowed you to capture and big thanks for sharing it with us :)
Like I said in your last video, they built a 500 (8'x4'x2') last year for me and unfortunately I sold it before I moved here currently for work. Thank you Custom Aquariums for letting Joey share this very interesting behind the scenes process with us!
Hi Joey, great tour, so interesting! Do they leave the silicone bumpers in and let the silicone dry around them? Or take them out as they progress? Thx again for the great videos.
So wonderful to see how they make their aquariums. Their tank at the end was gorgeous!
This was really cool, you could totally fill in for Mike Rowe..
Great video about a solid company. A cameo from Ted Judy would have made it even better. :)
wow great video it made me think twice about the company. I think I will buy my next tank from them. loved the quality of the workmanship. plus I like the fact th as they used aluminum instead of plastic snd its removable.
Seems like a much nicer company and a superior product than that of Miracles Aquariums. "If it doesn't leak it must be a Miracle"! Lesson learned!
Really impressive.
I just got a new hand made aquarium some weeks ago and it is cool to see how those are actually made.
Thanks to you and Custom Aquariums!
just received my 220 gal today.. Now waiting for your library to end so I can decide what to stock in it:D For now its arowana and ray

This video was awesome! You have really inspired me to keep my own fish! You are doing such a great job and I love watching every video.
Thank you for giving us behind the scenes, Joey!
Quick question, are those little silicone spacers left in place permentantly or are they somehow removed later?
Left in yes
I suppose those spacers don't affect structural integrity.
Thanks Joey, it's nuts cause this video contrasts most of the information I received from forums regarding silicone injection in DIY builds. I wonder how this video will change the narrative in the community.

So do they leave the silicone spacers in while they're injecting the silicone? Are the silicone spacers made of silicone and what size are they or what is the spacing between panes of glass?
I'd love to see them make a giant aquarium, really push those machines to their limit!
The tank in the end was at Adams home. (owner) I think that was a 12 footer. They had some pretty big ones being built there as well. In the warehouse there was one that must have been at least 800 gallons
That's crazy! That panel must weigh almost, if not more than my 125.
love the video....what thickness was the glass for the tank and do they remove the spacers or are the spacers silicone in place ???
I'm sure you heard about the huge aquarium that just broke. Any chance you can do a video on large aquariums and the challenges of making them? Any details, like materials strengths, sealant/attaching strengths, temperature changes, etc. would be of great interest. Thanks.

That's awesome of them letting you share the experience! Very interesting process.
silicone injection is some next level quality method!
enjoyed that!
thank joey ✌✌✌✌✌
Thanks...so cool......and they don't remove the spacer between the glass....surprising! And i check the silicone brand :)
Joey when they add the glass spacers for the silicone to get between the panes do they stay in the seam or do they come out at some point
They look good joey, can't wait to see them full of water and fish on your gallery. Hopefully those don't have to get helicoptered to your house haha. Keep up the good work and content 👍🏼
Super cool and interesting to watch even if I don't build aquariums!
Amazing! I like the process and wish i could work in a place like this. I especially like the aluminum bracing
Outstanding my friend. Well done and they just gained a fan! Keep up your good work. I know it's a full time job with plenty of overtime! You are gifted and have a creative and unique way with your video productions. I find it very enjoyable. Oh, and Howdy from Central Texas!

I literally did that for you.
The king of DIY haha thanks :)
What did you say?
Told me his misses my old intro. "Hi everybody, joey here again and welcome back"
The king of DIY Awesome. Throwback thursday
Hey mate. Did they take out the silicon spacer out while putting the silicone sealant or they just left it with the silicone? Thanks.
That was like a personalized version of "How It's Made" which I was watching when this notification popped up. 😂 Thanks Joey and thanks Custom Aquariums.
Hey Joey...What do they do with the little clear discs? Do they leave them and silicon around them or remove them some how?
Can't wait to see the 120s in the gallery
Thanks Joey. Love the attention to detail and the whole facility that Custom Aquariums has. One day I would like to get a very large aquarium or two from this company.
Wow, what an amazing process.
It would be nice to see a regular cheap 2ft aquarium made professionally the sort that that guys make in 5 mins
Having access to great companies like this is part of the reason why I want to move to the US :)
this was fascinating. I always like watching how things are made. Thank you for sharing and thank you to the company for allowing you to film this.
Amazing video and amazing building company. Most definitely going to look into them for my frag system. Thanks joey!
very interesting video. I like the aluminium braces they use.
That video was really well done and super informative as well as interesting. I can't wait to try out some of these techniques myself.
nice footage and narration this guy is a genius for giving us the opportunity to witness this
Watching them do the silicone is so satisfying.
Wow, their going to be the ones that make my dream tank.
So cool. Thanks Joey for the tour. Such a cool facility!
That was the most relaxing 10 minutes I've had all day. I should go look at my tank lol.

This was so awesome to see!!! Thank you Custom Aquariums for allowing us to visit, and thank you to the king of DIY for sharing this with us.
those guys are just a short drive away from me too bad i doubt i'll ever be able to afford one of those beautiful tanks.
Im late to the party again (im in school sorry), Joey will you consider painting the bottom of the 2k tank sand brown? it would look good like substrate but still be easy to clean and keep your rays from piling it all in the center.

Found this VERY interesting. Thanks!
wow thanks for the video!!! extremely informative! I never realized everything that went into it!
A great experience Joey!!...thanks a lot for the video....
this has somehow given me a greater appreciation of what goes into making fish tanks.
Not all companies put in this much effort. I can assure you.
nice video as always, just one question is there a way to smooth the edges of the glass like that in DIY like with sandpaper ?
Today in an all new episode of How it's made. Anyways awesome video joey! Thanks for showing this to us
That was really interesting, thank you to Custom Aquariums for allowing the behind the scenes tour.
This was really soothing to watch
Shhhhhh... sit back and listen to my voice.... you're getting sleepy... very sleeeeeepy. When you awake you will click the like button and subscribe if you are not already... ;)
great old-school style DIY video Joey
hi joey
i really love your channel and wanted to thank you for doing all of this and getting me into the hobby.
good luck for the future :)
Joey should become the "how it's made" narrator.
Lovely video. Thanks for sharing.
Damn! That was awesome, thank you for asking, we're all grateful and excited to get a custom tank made by them. Enjoyed the music too, reminded me of Mr. Rodger's when they'd show how things were made haha. Kudos again for the video. I must admit it got me excited for the gallery even more!
