    I had the Duel subs from back when the dust caps were black. For $40 or less?! I can't recommend them enough! They're excellent for the money. Especially if you're in a spot where your speakers keep getting stolen. I love seeing the amount of abuse those things can tolerate before they blow. No excursion popping or anything. Those things sound great until the very end. They might shake some screws lose but they won't break your windows or your bank.

    They performed quite well, considering the price. Pretty good bass for the buck! I would use these in home HiFi, with a ~200 watt receiver amp. Thanks for the test. The only knock on them, would be the voice coil rubbing, right out of the box. I would take that one back, and get it exchanged, if I were to install these in my home theater system. I'll bet they'll hold up very well, with smaller amplifiers.

    The nice things about the DUAL subs is that if you are more into S.Q. builds? Its REALLY hard to go wrong! Just one of these does a good job with filling the cabin with sound. 2 of them is just right in the proper box. 8 of them is enough for small hair tricks. The great thing about these is that they work great in those Pre Fab Boxes. ~1.5 cubes.
    S.Q is where it is at. Sure, there are Better woofers out there. But if you spend the time to build the boxes to your Car or van? You really can't go wrong with these DUAL gear.

    Great video! I love to see cheap speakers do surprising good results!
    And like you said, since they have soft parts they can be able to reach certain volumes easier than a beefier sub. To my understanding, the beefier subs are more suitable for ultra low frequencies or extreme dbs but there are times that we don’t need them to be so beefy depending on the application. And with that said, you can get surprising numbers out of cheap subs just like you did. I wish you can get a hand of some old-school pyramid audio subs because we know that nowadays pyramid audio sucks.

    • @westelaudio943
      @westelaudio943 2 года назад

      A softer suspension won't make them more efficient all around. It's their lower moving mass. A stiff suspension (allowing for a narrow air gap!) with a low moving mass is the most efficient, at the cost of higher Fs of course.
      That's how pro audio woofers are made. Bugger all in the lowest lows but in the midbass, 50Hz+ they can often reach 100dB/W/m anechoic in a ported box!

    • @Bassotronics
      @Bassotronics 2 года назад

      Exactly but for higher frequencies, not low lows.
      This is a subwoofer test, not a woofer test.

    • @westelaudio943
      @westelaudio943 2 года назад +1

      @@Bassotronics
      True, however the same physical principles that apply to woofers apply to subs as well obviousy. I mentioned PA woofers rather than subs because a Pro 12" is obviously still a woofer while in the car world a 12 is a sub. To have a sub with PA grade efficiency, it's cone needs to be extremely large. 18" or rather 21" are the common sizes for "true" PA subs, and they also have a comparatively low moving mass and a very stiff suspension so the air gap can be as narrow as possible.
      Keep in mind the power needed to overcome a speaker's suspension, is to a large degree only apparent power and not real power, because the power remains in the system and get released again when the cone bounces back to the center. Think of it like driving up a hill and then coasting down again.
      So a steeper incline (=stiffer suspension) doesn't neccessarily mean you waste more power when you can coast downhill at the same angle again.
      Anyhow, speaker physics are complicated and at times counterintuitive, that's why we have TSP, measurement tools, and/or sim software to easily calculate approximate speaker performance in a given enclosure without having to think about such things :)

I purchased a 10' Type x in a box tuned to 48Hz (bassworx max power) on recommended 1000 RMS and smoked the hell out of it because the high pass was limited to 15 or 30 Hz on the amp. My previous amp was rated for 815w rms per channel at 2 ohms and the subs I were using were dvc 2 ohms at 400rms a piece. Expecting the amp to have power headroom, it went into protection mode about 20 minutes after operation every time. To this day I still have no clue why the amp would go into protection. Was it producing too much power for the subs at 2 ohms? I re wired the subs to 4 ohms being that it's 4 ohm compatible and it hasn't gone into protection since. I would rather run 2 ohms but I'm still clueless as to why the amp shit out on me. Probably going to get some svc 2 ohm 12's for my next build and just wire it to 1 ohm, thoughts?
