    Hi Betsi, I too am a purple queen! I also agree with you, the cost of craft supplies are spendy. I am disabled and a widow, whose husband doesn’t leave me with financial stability. My meds are expensive because I’m on high pain meds. I could watch you draw all day long and listen to you talk, just as long! You voice is soothing. I’m so glad that your account came up for me to check out. Hope you are enjoying your day today and that you are doodling something.

    Beautiful art piece ❤ my favorite color combo! I am so glad you are in a stable home environment now. CA is so expensive. Your childhood sounds so similar to my Hispanic husband's experience. Big hugs to you, and I want you to know you are so deserving to be happy and to spoil yourself with good art supplies. Here'sa hint if you didnt already know. If you're planning to use your videos as a business on your taxes, save your receipts to use as a write off. ❤ have an awesome weekend.

    I love your talks even more than your drawing. And that says a lot lol!! I can TOTALLY relate to growing up in horrible poverty. I'm 50yrs old now and I still buy double & triple the items when I grocery shop. I still have that fear of running out of food or household supplies. I way overspend on keeping the house stocked. But I don't spend hardly anything on clothes or fashion. And I make one big Blick order at the first of every year, which doubles as my Christmas AND bday gifts. I try to be strategic about it lol.

    You have my paint palette! 😊 I have a lot of acrylic in tubes, and it’s very ‘solid’ and opaque. Okay for some things but needs a lot of watering down for others. I went from oils to acrylic so tend to paint that way, but I absolutely love the way you did this. Love the way you said I’m not following the rules too! 😄
    I’m so happy for you that you have a safe space and resources to do this. I know how huge a deal that is ❤
    I’m not sure how but I just watched the whole video straight through, I can rarely do that but yours just fly by😊 I love the end result, it looks almost iridescent like the inside of an abalone shell. I kept thinking ‘sunset waves’.

    Both of these paintings are stunning! Adding color to the background makes a huge difference. It's also amazing to see that the thin black lines you added to the swirls gave it so much more definition and dimension. Thanks for sharing these, and your thoughts on the different Posca markers. Those thin tips were something I was thinking of purchasing and you saved me some money. Also, I'm glad that your life circumstances are changing for the better! 9:18 You know what else you can do right after you're done laying down the paint? If you have any sort of textured kitchen paper towels, you lay a big piece of that on top and press it down with something flat for a few seconds. Then gently peel it off and the paint will have A) slightly dried and B) a fun pattern!
    (Those paper towels are also great for wiping your brush on, so you don't have to rinse all the paint off in the water and getting the pot full of pigments... although I noticed you didn't rinse the brush here, probably since you were going for the blendy-blendy aesthetic!)
    This was a fun experiment to watch, and I hope you keep filming artwork like this. It turned out beautiful!

    Hello Betsy, love your painting. You are such an artist with you own universe and not afraid to try things out! I used Posca before (in my graffiti period 😆), they are great but a bit tricky. For very fine brushes, have you tried the ones for manucures (nail art)? Some of them are really fine!

    • @betsi_jae
      @betsi_jae  Год назад

      Thanks, I have tried them. They make great tiny lines. After experimenting with a few over the years, my preferred method is to get the affordable small brushes from the craft store and then snip away at the hairs until there are only a few left. I’ll certainly look online to see what else is available.

    Please do not feel guilty or burdened, since the concerns you have/had as an immigrant are also concerns that most people have. Be aware that not all of us are like you and I, who speak clearly about these issues, including costs, most on social media platforms are, for lack of a better term, faking it. Many have items purchased for them from their Amazon wish lists, and are sometimes sponsored by a company that gives their products to the RUclipsrs to use and review in their videos. I like coming up with alternatives, as you explain in parts of this video (such as using gel marker, etc.). You do YOU, Betsi. You are talented and those who can deal will show up regardless.

    I am so excited to see the acrylics with your art! I also use POSCA occasionally. I find that they are very different when it comes to the line work. The lighter my hand, the better it turns out. Also, I do not use the POSCA for the smaller line work. They work best for large outlines/shading for me personally. For the smaller lines I use archival ink pens of any brand. I love this piece you have done. It looks like beautiful waves or gusts of playful wind. 😊

    I'm with you regarding taping the paper down, I use 'tack-it' on a board, glass or acrylic sheet or whatever base I'm on and then place my paper on it (follow the instructions of your repositional glue) because I like to paint to the edge and off the edge. It holds well and allows me to pull off my paper without tearing although you might have to be a bit more careful with lightweight or delicate papers.

    I think you might quite like script liner brushes. The thing about small paintbrushes is they’ll never get a fine line if they’re not long. also dagger brushes, and things made for pinstripe painting on automobiles. … The bristles on the paint brushes are long and thin, so getting used to them is a bit tricky but the results are so rewarding.

    • @betsi_jae
      @betsi_jae  11 месяцев назад +1

      You must have been reading my mind 😊. I was just thinking of trying that type of brush. The brushes I'm currently using are ones I snipped the hairs off of, only leaving a few long hairs on the brush. Its almost time to replace them but I didn't know what the pinstriping brushes were called. Thank you for the reminder🦋

    • @creativesolutionstoart

      @@betsi_jae Yes, and watercolor types they are called script liners or RIGOR brushes… Very small dagger brushes are also used to make thin lines… I think the type of brushes that pin stripers use are also dagger brushes, but they might be made of a stiffer material because they use it with automobile paint. Just wanted to make that distinction :-) looking forward to seeing you try them out!

      Depending on one’s personal budget it can be difficult to rationalize the expense. What helps me a lot lately is asking myself if I truly intend on using it. I will often stand in the aisle with the item in my hand for a good while, thinking about why I want this thing and whether or not I will make full use of it. In truth I put things back most of the time, so when something actually comes home with me it’s so much more meaningful.
