Nat King Cole had one of the silkiest voices of all time and was universally loved by almost everyone! This is a wonderful tribute to him, having his daughters voice matched with his.
Nat King Cole was top ten all-time male singers. Right up there with Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Elvis, Kenny Rogers, etc. I am amazed and saddened that Asia never heard of him. Nat King Cole was also the first African American performer with his own television show - The Nat King Cole Show.
This is an iconic Nat King Cole song and his biggest song. For the original song featuring Nat King Cole it was recorded with an orchestra leader and arranger Nelson Riddle in 1951. It became a hit again in 1991 (US #14, UK #19) for Nat's daughter, Natalie, when her vocals were dubbed with his to make a duet.

They re-recorded the music with an orchestra. They used her father's original vocal and Natalie sang the duet with the recording using his voice. You need to see her do it live with her dad on a big screen and photos of her and her dad as she was growing up. She did a whole album of her father's songs, actually, she did two. This song was a HUGE hit when she released it, and she did a whole tour singing her fathers songs.
From my memory bank, I believe it cost $750,000 to remaster this song in1990. David Foster added the saxophone solo in the middle of the song.

I remember .... that was the sweetest thing I ever heard, father and daughter. They clipped Nat's version to hers and it was brilliant. Every father wants that - what a great tribute. It's a shame how young they both were when they died. I still have all of Natalie's recordings and her fathers too, they bring a wonderful mood to anyone.
My sisters and I threw my parents a party for their 50th wedding anniversary. This was the song we chose for their first dance. Five years later on their 55th wedding anniversary my dad was diagnosed with an untreatable tumor. They had their last dance to this song. This will always be my most favorite song!
"I've Got Love On My Mind", "This Will Be", and "Our Love" are my favorites. She has such a remarkable voice as much as he did. Nat King Cole was huge in the 50's and 60's. He passed away in 1965.

I've been a big fan of Nat King Cole since I was a grade school boy in the 50s. Nat King Cole is who you listen to when you want to snuggle with your best girl on the dance floor. His voice was silk. "Unforgettable" was his song. "Mona Lisa" was another of his signature songs.
I think Nat King Cole sang this song in the mid 1950's...He was my mother's favorite singer...I remember when he died in 1966 my mother cried for 3 days...Nat King Cole also was the fist African American to have his own tv show...His voice brings back so many good memories... I remember the first time they showed the video with them together - I sobbed! I adored Nat King Cole - he was a superstar and such a gentleman. I cry every single time I hear this song because we can all relate to what it is like to be able to be with your parents again after their passing. It is as close as you're going to get. Plus the perfection and gorgeousness of both of their voices. Natalie truly gave a great tribute to her father - she didn't try to overpower him with her voice - she just complimented him perfectly! It is the magic of editing, Asia (and such careful thoughtfulness)!
Asia, do yourself a favor and watch the video for this song. Natalie went to great lengths to make this a personal tribute to her father, Nat "King" Cole. In the video, there is a montage of photos of the two of them that will melt your heart.
I believe Natalie used most of the musicians who worked with her father to produce the record of his most famous songs. She was asked early on in her career to cover this material but resisted until she felt she could properly honor him and his music. Watch the video. Have a napkin handy. And very ready for magic shared between a father and his loving daughter.

Asia, I agree that you should watch the video. When I saw that you were just listening to the audio I was so frustrated that you were missing out on the beautiful, sweet, poignant video. I’m glad BJ knew the backstory and was able to fill you in on it before you finished the song. I was born in ‘62 and grew up knowing who he was. He was a huge star and highly respected. I’ve seen some of his other hit songs mentioned in the comments but so far I haven’t seen The Christmas Song mentioned. You may have heard it. The opening line is, “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.” Classic and classy Christmas song. (You could start a list of suggested Christmas songs to react to in December. This should be at the top of the list. There are quite a few from the fifties and sixties that are great to listen to during the holidays)

Nat King Cole passed in 1965, Natalie was only 15 this mash-up was released in 1991. The album "Unforgettable" was release in 1991 has several duets with both Nat & Natalie.
She was born before Nat died so she was much older. To be only 15 in 1991, she would have been born 10 years after her father died.
The way you worded that makes it sound like she was 15 when this came out; I take it you mean she was 15 when her father died in 1965.
While the album Unforgettable... With Love is all Natalie singing her father's hits, the title track is the only one where they created a duet with Nat King Cole. It's a great album; my parents used to listen to her father's records when I was young and it was a very nice flashback to hear her reinterpret them.

On November 5, 1956, "The Nat 'King' Cole Show" became the first nationally broadcast television show hosted by an African American. The original recording of "Unforgettable" by Nat "King" Cole was released in October of 1951. Nat "King" Cole passed away due to lung cancer on February 15, 1965 at the age of 45 when his daughter Natalie Cole was 15 years old.
The recording of "Unforgettable" with Natalie Cole duetting with her father Nat "King" Cole was released in June of 1991. The song "Unforgettable" from Natalie Cole's album of songs associated with her father entitled "Unforgettable...With Love," which was certified 7× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), won three 1992 Grammys: Record of the Year, Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, and Arrangement Accompanying Vocals. You guys are wonderful. Back during Nat King Coles later part of his career in the 50s Rock n Roll and Doo Wop exploded Nat came up with a song called " MR. COLE WON'T ROCK AND ROLL". A hilarious take on a singer who will not sing that type of music. He goes thru several R&R songs and the crowd can't stop laughing. Take a listen.

This song is from Natalie Cole's album "Unforgettable, With Love" released on June 11, 1991, 26 years after her father's death. On this album, she covered many of her dad's popular songs and it won her several Grammys and many other awards.
Growing up with Nat King Cole's music/voice, I was beyond thrilled when Natalie released this song and the album. I still listen to it often. I've heard others try to cover this song, but no one does it like NKC. The only vocalist who comes close is Lockie Chapman (British). His voice has a similar resonance as NKC. Check out The Overtones, live, Unforgettable, (on the program, Steppin' Out with Katherine Jenkins), Lockie sings the lead.

Natalie's whole Unforgettable album was wonderful....when I was working in retail Calvin Klein store...one of my co workers was an older lady..Theresa..this whole album was our jam. Anytime we opened the store together...we would play this front to back and sing along with every song.

I have always felt a spiritual idk, something in my soul whenever I hear this song. It's true when you are falling IN love the world is just a different place, a wonderful place you never want to leave. The world has grown cynical and I am guilty too sadly. That line, that someone so unforgettable thinks that I am unforgettable too, is really the ❤️ of being in love with another. Not only was Nat King Cole one of the 3 greatest male singers of standards of all time, but he was also one of the top 5 greatest jazz pianists of all time. Listen to him doing such incredible songs as "Mona Lisa", "On The Street Where You Live", "Nature Boy", "The Very Thought Of You", "Smile", "Let There Be Love", "Stardust", "Too Young", "Sweet Lorraine", and of course "The Christmas Song" of which his is the classic version.
This man is the timeless epitome of class and elegance! He was such a good man! If you get the chance, watch the documentary about him called “Nat King Cole-Afraid of the Dark”-I cried my eyes out. One of greatest singers EVER.

Back in the 90s when I had to drive in traffic and it would make me so angry, I started listening to an album of Nat's greatest hits to calm myself and put myself in a better frame of mind. It worked too!
Natalie has a wonderful voice, but her Daddy is on a different level than almost everyone else. Only a few can compare with the wonderful vocals of Nat King Cole. Every time I hear him sing, I think it's Christmas.

Nat King Cole was an unbelievable singer in the 50s. His voice was like velvet. He died at a young age due to lung cancer. He hosted a variety show for a while and you often saw him smoking. At that time tobacco companies actually told people cigarettes were good for you. The original song was a monster hit for him. Natalie also had a great voice and died at a young age also. Asia and BJ ,🎶🎶 Nat was one of giants of jazz ,please do more. He was playing the piano at age 4, led his own band at 18yrs. Did some acting, had his own TV show. He co-wrote some of his songs. This is not the first time Nat and Natalie sang together they along with sister Carol they sang " AIN'T SHE SWEET ".
Since I was a small boy, Nat King Cole is the most comforting voice I have ever heard.
Nat King Cole is a true legend with a beautiful and unmistakable singing voice. Natalie's voice is beautiful too...she probably had professional sound engineers to get her recording to have the same sound as Nat's recording has.
Nat Cole was in a different universe his entire professional life. (And he’s got the catalog to prove it) Natalie was a great artist in her own right, but this was Top Shelf for her and as a technical achievement.
This audio version is superb, but you have to see the video of them singing together.
I guarantee, the video version will hit you on a different level.

Freddy Cole passed away relatively recently in June of 2020 at the age of 88.
He studied at the Juilliard School of Music before completing a master's degree at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Freddy Cole was the subject of the 2006 documentary, "The Cole Nobody Knows," which was also the title of one of his albums released in 1976. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. His 2010 album, "Freddy Cole Sings Mr. B," was nominated for the Grammy in the category Best Jazz Vocal Album. His last album released in 2018, "My Mood is You," was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
This reminds me of my dad. Nat was 1 of his favorites & he used to sing to me Mona Lisa. That's why he named me Lisa. I miss my daddy so much, think about him daily. Thank you for doing this, it really warmed my heart 🥲

This song has a lifetime of meaning to me. My dad played Nat King Cole back when I was a kid in the 60s. When Natalie decided to produce this remix in the 80s it just melted me. Nat used to sing to Natalie when she was a little girl. Because they are father and daughter, their voice harmonize perfectly. Thank You for sharing!

He had so many famous songs you’ve heard in many movies. “Smile,” Mona Lisa, the Autumn Leaves, “L-o-v-e,” Tenderly, Nature Boy, the list is endless. Do definitely listen to Unforgettable by himself.

Absolutely love this song. The first time seeing the official video I got really emotional seeing father and daughter doing a duet even after his untimely death. He had one of those smooth voices that made him one of the greatest crooners of all time. My grandparents had some of his 78 rpm albums.

Nat King Cole passed in 1965 at the age of 45. Natalie passed in 2015 at the age of 65. Unforgettable was published in 1951. Check out Hank Williams Sr and Jr singing "There's a Tear in my Beer".

This is a Beautiful song Natalie always wanted to sing with her father but he had passed. Try the song "Smile " recorded in 1956 by Nat King Cole, written by Charlie Chaplin.
The song was originally recorded by Mr Cole, he unfortunately died of cancer in the 60s so Natalie was a very young girl when she lost her father, Nat was a very famous singer and piano player and well loved by black people and white people, they were in the studio able to take his original recording and take Natalie's recording and blend the two, you want to see something incredible find the video of the TV show where they were able to make it look exactly like Nat was right there performing live with his daughter, it's amazing and magical, RIP Mr Cole a talented, classy gentlemen

This was the song our daughter chose for the father daughter dance at her wedding reception. Nat King Cole was an American treasure. He was the first black entertainer to have his own network television show. His voice was smooth as silk. He is truly an unforgettable icon in the music industry. This duet was beautifully done with his talented daughter blending their voice’s together to bring this gem to a new generation of music lovers. Sadly, she lost her beloved father when she was very young, just as I did.
