I just picked up the cheapest [$249] Kobalt 21" 40V lawnmower. I can get 35 minutes of run time with the 5AH battery and 31 minutes with a 4AH battery. What is horrible is that it takes 2:39 to charge the 5AH and 2:07 to charge the 4AH. Can you imagine your phone taking 24 hours to charge after using it for 6 hours? I like the steel deck though.
Without supercharging, it takes 24 of 220V charging to charge my car back to full after using it for 4 hours. But I do understand what you are saying about the 40-volt battery.
MIL just got one and had me put it together. Doesn’t turn on. Is there a threshold the battery needs to be at to start or is it probably a dud? Looking for opinions before I decide to care enough to open it or send it back.
Too bad about the height. I could probably live with flexy handles, and the uninsulated leather gloves I wear when mowing might make the square bar more comfortable.
I don't like how flimsy that appears to be. A good comparison would be against the Atlas mower from Harbor Freight. I've been using the Ryobi cross cut 40v. So far I've been very impressed with it. However that's just my sample of one, having been using it for about 4 months doing two lawns a week.
I do not believe they are part of anyone you mensioned, but I have a lead I am working on that might unlock some info on a company that is like Chervon and is growing. I will have a video out on that soon.
@@WorkshopAddict Interesting. Just curious since I know Greenworks badges their stuff as Kobalt OPE/Atlas/Snapper/Briggs so being an 80V it made me wonder if they were buying from Big Green. Frankly if they are going it alone I'll cheer them on because the Greenworks 25" mower I got is a nightmare (I did a teardown vid and it's engineering trash!) I am as always subscribed so we'll stay tuned to what you find!
@@ToolHombre Amerisun supposedly makes PowerSmart, but I have a feeling they just distribute them. From a TON of research, I think Jiangsu Dongcheng Power Tools Co might be behind the battery, at a minimum.
@@WorkshopAddict Glad you are giving a new player (Powersmart) a warm welcome. I've smoked an Ego and a Greenworks in the first year, say nothing about 5 years. I don't want to say "I'm hard on tools" because I am NOT as hard on them as I would be on gas, and gas could easily do my application. I can live with less run time than gas, but not poor build quality that can't handle a thick lawn. As always, appreciate your informed content.
You get what you pay for.Cheap price means lesser quality and less bells and whistles. It would suit consumers with smaller properties and who are not particular about the height of cut.
I was wondering how this was the "cheapest" but that is funny that they jacked the price up... (new cheapest: it didn't take much searching on amazon to find a 19" "snapper" model for $400.)
@@WorkshopAddict man you make great videos. Amazon changes prices so fast it's really not your fault. This is a $200 item. If it's in the $300 region I see no advantage of this over gas when a self propelled gas unit can be had in the same price region. But most respectfully I appreciate your review as this could be incredibly useful when price does inevitably drop. 🙏
@@hymlog LOL. I did this to learn what is out there and on the market at different price ranges to help me inform others as to what is or is not a good deal.
IMHO, No.... You can get into a VERY nice gas mower for the same price that will last you 20 years. EGO might last you 5, if you are lucky, before you have to spend $300 on a new battery. That is IF the mower still works.

Good to see another Michigan man! I'm located in the Clare area!
That is one heck of a battery. I would imagine 20 cells for 80v. How many P do you suppose it is?
I am going to guess by its size and weight that it is 3P.

Do you know if PS are partnered with anyone on their battery manufacturing? Greenworks/Chervon/Worx/ etc? Just curious. Thanks.

What is the brand and how much did it cost?
PowerSmart and with the coupon code it was $250
Excellent review! It's funny that nothing is 21" on it. 😅
That is so typical of all battery operated stuff these days.
Is this self-propelled?
How much does it cost
For $250...its a steal!
Can this little mower handle your big acres?
Wet and tall thick grass of coarse isn't flying out
I don't like how flimsy the handles are
For 450 dolmas you might as well go for a more quality mower and just spend the 100 dollars extra
There was a coupon code on this when I bought it for $250.
@@WorkshopAddict That is what I just bought it for on Amazon today, I have a mostly flat 0.20 acre yard should work great for the job.
$250 on Amazon as of 7/20/2023
The powersmart mower cuts too low.i own the 26" 80 v mower.
This isn't actually the cheapest 80 volt lawn mower on Amazon.
It was when I bought it for $250 a few weeks ago.
The battery and charger seem very nice compared to the 80v Atlas charger and batteries from Harbor Freight @WorkshopAddict
$449 and it's not self propelled?
There is a coupon code to get it for less, look at the box under the price.
